@jeremybanks Now, how do you get back to the page proper after you're there in the revisions list?

When I was talking about TalkTo in here recently, did anyone sign up and follow their twitter account?

Are they giving away free stuff to followers?

I got a dm from them with a link that redirects to what appears to be a facebook phishing attempt :|
I thought you could only get a dm from someone you follow that also follows you

Hi. This post lead me here. Is it still OK to ask for clarification on a case of serial upvoting?

5:38 AM
@RebeccaChernoff Free facebook fishing for following? FANTASTIC!
@romainl Oh, I can clarify that for you: someone got the bright idea of up-voting you many, many times in the space of about a minute. That looks pretty dodgy, so the system invalidated them. Since he's gone and done it again, you can pretty much expect the same outcome.

5:52 AM
@Shog9 Thanks for your answer. Yes. That's what I'm expecting. What can you tell me about the perpetrator? While I agree voting fraud should be fought off, but there are chances that the person wanted to do good. How could I reach out to him/her and tell him/her to stop?

@romainl I can't really tell you anything, but I've contacted him and asked him to stop. The usual advice is, "vote on the content, not the user" - hopefully he'll take it to heart.
FWIW, you weren't the only target; I suspect he was, as you surmise, trying to do right by folks he felt were posting good stuff.

@Shog9 Thank you. here's hoping your message will be understood. Thanks again. Do you mind if I upvote many of your posts as a reward for your help? ;-)

heh... YES I DO MIND! ;-P

Ho… OK. I won't.
Bye.

Argh...Markdown has ruined me. I keep trying to use it everywhere.

Go and submit markdown patches for popular forum softwares :P

In this case it was actually our project management system. I could modify that, but I'd probably get yelled at for taking the time. :P
Of course, the other place this tends to come up a lot is Skype. shakes fist at Microsoft

awesome ^_^

Obviously, all project management systems should support markdown.

2:36 PM
All things everywhere should support Markdown!
Even hand-written letters. There will be no exceptions.

That is thorough. I support this.
@TimStone I guess you'll be working on the firmware patch for the human brain to add a markdown parser (to be used when viewing hand written letters)?

Yes, I've put it on the todo list after all those other things I'm supposed to be doing.

2:58 PM
That does not inspire confidence =P

For anyone who hasn't read it, the "What if" on xkcd today is great: What if a glass of water was, all of a sudden, literally half empty?

@jcolebrand I don't have much of an issue with the research methods on that gravatar question - content analysis is a well defined qualitative research method that can be a valuable tool in mixed methods research for example. The caveat is that you have to have a sensible coding system and apply it robustly of course.

I know you don't have much of an issue with that, but you raise an interesting point.
Did I really imply that you were concerned about the methodologies? I thought I made it clear that Andrew was concerned, and you raised a point.

I was sort of replying to Andrew's criticism of the method described.
but figured it was a bit OT for the question comments

@Sathya and @slhck: Still can't get into the SU chat, or else I would tell you there, but thank you again for attacking my account merge; it's fixed now.

@PopularDemand let me thump it hard
got a chat url for your userprofee on chat.se?

Nothing you do will help. It's a company security vs. stackauth thing.

thump it again

Thanks for trying, though.

are you sure?
ok, sure thing

5:20 PM
Yes.

@PopularDemand ah.
@PopularDemand is it a problem only on Super User? Stack Overflow & Meta Stack Overflow works fine?
can try changing the parent user to meta

All chats except SO and MSO, as far as I know. Definitely SU and English.

So it's the whole chat.stackexchange.com domain (since chat.meta and chat.stackoverflow are separate).
All chats other than SO and MSO are lumped into chat.se (English, SU, etc).
But you probably already know that, and thus I'm just being obnoxious.

@jadarnel27 quit playing my role!

Hahaha. I just can't help it sometimes.

6:57 PM
How can we make 2-factor auth a better user experience? Beacuse let's be honest: right now it's kind of a pain in the ass.

...
The only time I've found that to be true is when it takes more than a few seconds to get the text message from Google. Thankfully that usually doesn't happen.

@waxpancake See http://i.imgur.com/A9Wu5.png . I believe we're already experimenting with what you asked for. cc @ginatrapani
then you'll hate this

yeah, I use the iphone app

Oh, why did I not know that existed? |:
Also, I'm still severely disappointed that my email and Diablo III have two-factor auth, but my bank doesn't.

Gross, iPhones.

@TimStone this.

I'm now taking bets on how long validating 35 GB of data will take.

Sixty...wait, no. Sixty- one seconds!
Final answer.

You may be disappointed by your odds. :P

@TimStone at a minimum, 12 hours, 42 seconds. Assuming you're reading ALL the data, and processing it according to some random loops. Optimize the loops ...

Darn it. For what it's worth, I learned my estimating skills from watching the windows file copy dialog.
My next guess was going to be 2 years and 5 days.

nope, no xkcd posts atm.
If you can get a whatif to onebox... maybe
Why do I even bother trying to help some users?

Too late! I ninja'd it in.

@jcolebrand Thankfully my code's not that bad. On the plus side though, you'll be closest without going over. :P
O_o
Why is Visual Studio always pegging one of my CPUs when it should be idle?
And which Chrome process is also pegging a CPU? |:

Q: When stars are cancelled on a chat message, the stars should not be refunded

Kendall FreyWe in the C# chat room are having an issue with people abusing stars. When someone starts spam-starring messages, we cancel the stars, but this gives the user their stars back, enabling them to spam us with more stars. I think that stars should not be gotten back, so that someone who spams with ...

Wooooo free glass!!!

all I heard was "free punch in your effing face, so stand still", so ... I punched him in the throat.

@TimStone I think he's referencing this picture from the xkcd thing today.

@TimStone Which is part of what-if.xkcd.com/6

@Bart I assure you TimStone knows about xkcd's what-ifs
I'm pretty sure he read it 2 hours before it was posted
You only think rchern has magic, TimStone and she battled once. It blew up another guys garbage disposal. Tis true.

I was behind today because I was doing what I was supposed to be doing for once.

@TimStone: What!? Get back to doing what you're not supposed to be doing pronto!

@TimStone shush ye immortal, I cannot preach thy great teachings if thou showest up and slanderest me!

@jcolebrand See, I sensed something was off. It just had to be him doing what he was supposed to do. I demand an apology

@Bart apologize for the behavior of a core-dev(*) ... never!

@animuson Don't worry, I am! About to run ballots in nine minutes. And I do plan on working on Data Explorer/election site later.
All will be right in the world again.

7:52 PM
(*) Tim is not a core-dev, but he seems to fix most of the light SE issues on meta, that are javascript only.

, harasser of devs and obnoxious meddler extraordinaire. Or something.

For anyone interested in those elections.

2,698 voters were eligible, 604 visited the site during the election, 695 visited the election page, and 137 voted
These statistics don't make sense!!
More people visited the election page than the site?
@TimStone: Fix

Perhaps an access vs. login situation, like what was described in Consecutive days problem #97??

How long does this whole summer of love thing still last? When can I start to randomly insult users again?

@animuson You'll have to find someone more blue to blame. :P

Let's blame @Rebecca then?

8:15 PM
@PopularDemand Sounds likely. The election page should probably count as activity though, in that case.

8:29 PM
@RebeccaChernoff if anyone couldn't tell my jokes from my statements of the truth, well, good. It'll imbue them with a sense of "let me double check before I do something stupid" which we all know is a lesson I haven't quite learnt yet.
@Bart When you can find a flaw in my answers (marked accepted, upvoted beyond 4 total score) that is more than pedantic, then you can start to badmouth people.

Ah, you're taking the fun out of it with your boundaries

Right?
But such a lofty goal.

After my success (or lack thereof) today trying to be informative, helpful and constructive, I feel I deserve to at least push one user to a ragequit. Please? ;)

You have to do that on Meta Stack Overflow which I think is immune to SoL

That was my idea anyway. Let me grab that permalink to indicate I have your explicit approval

8:42 PM
@Bart go for it. And when I'm shown to have explicit approval for all acts on Meta Stack Overflow lemme know how that works out.

:)

1 hour later…
9:50 PM
You want to make Rebecca ragequit?
That's mean.
Plus it won't work.

@Pekka maybe he just doesn't like his A/C unit?

I'm not sure I follow, @jcolebrand.
