@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I do mean the CM's work mail. And if you give enough information, mods can do it on your behalf

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog referring to "they", it's wrong usage of the pronoun. It should be used when either not knowing the gender (as default) or when the person explicitly ask to be referred so, e.g. JNat. But Cesar is a male beyond and doubt, it's clear from the profile, from the arrival annoucement and more. Please use "he" for him.
As for email, he choose to not share it, so unlikely you'll get it. Some CM's prefer to not be flooded with emails, and it's fair.
@JasonC yeah you have a great device, good DPI. But can't see any fail or anything wrong.
So, you just showing off your new device? ;)

Both flagged one kaboomed, one still up with -6.
@JNat light cross site spammer for your small backlog. ;)

(subsequently) returning spammer (MS) diy.stackexchange.com/a/268465

12:20 PM
@tripleee it was reported here by Smokey, one message above yours. Why duplicate it?

12:30 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars sorry, I seem to have gotten the wrong link, there were two spam messages by that user and only one of them was reported here but I seem to have grabbed the wrong one ... gone now anyway

12:41 PM
@tripleee oh, I see. Happens! :)
That's what you meant by "subsequently"?

yeah, though looking at it again now, I may have had confused the sequence of the events, too ... maybe the earlier one was already reported here and subsequently removed? or something

Dunno, but matters a little I guess.

uhhhhh
Its messy

# rings for mortal men + # horsemen + # of Gomez's toes + error: not found
Concat everything, that's your answer.

I've flagged for the mods but I'm fairly certain its chatGPTed
hm
so from what I can glean, OP used chatgpt to formulate a question
and didn't really read/understand it

1:26 PM
@tripleee neither of those. Just navigate away slowly, and forget about it. ;)
Site users/mods can handle this.
@JourneymanGeek not all sites ban ChatGPT, sadly, does SF ban it?

@ShadowWizardChasingStars I don't remember

Also all sites banning it, clearly mention only answers, so in theory question written by ChatGPT is legit.

Its less legit and more 'it hasn't been banned yet'

@JourneymanGeek same.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Super User says Following the discussion (Should we ban ChatGPT on Super User? - Meta Super User) regarding the usage of ChatGPT to generate questions or answers on Super User the community have voted in favour of a ban (1).

1:29 PM
@SPArcheon which as usual, makes totally and utterly no sense to me. lol
Well guess Tink (and any mod) gets a free pass, fair.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars yes; meta.serverfault.com/questions/9845/…

@SPA by the way, I'm terrible with riddles, always was, it's nothing personal. I was never able to solve a real puzzle, and I've tried.

So riddle me, and you lose me.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars heh,, in this case though

1:31 PM
Heck... these days I can't understand memes. :D

its possible OP has an actual question/issue
and ruined everything
@ShadowWizardChasingStars wait, why do mods get free passes?
and more importantantly
where do we get free passes to?

@ShadowWizardChasingStars I would say it is far simpler than anything they have any year for Winter Bash unicorn thing

@DavidPostill You sure questions were mentioned? I checked quite a few sites banning ChatGPT, none had any mention of questions, only answers.

@SPArcheon Nein?
@ShadowWizardChasingStars I'd also bring up the human exception handler aspect

@JourneymanGeek you missed the small arrow, it's a reply to me.

1:33 PM
mods are trusted to handle strange situations

@tripleee so that's a "no".
> ChatGPT answers not permitted
So, question is permitted. For now.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars no no
questions are not explicitly banned
there's a difference

Unclear why they don't just write "ChatGPT CONTENTS are banned" and be done with it.
@JourneymanGeek nope.
when it comes to posting the question, there's totally no differnce.
It's just semantics.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars If something that's not in the rules is harmful, we're trusted to make calls as needed

@ShadowWizardChasingStars what? The answer to "has SF banned ChatGPT" is "yes"

1:35 PM
@JourneymanGeek and the user can submit ticket saying "they deleted my question even though it's not written anywhere I can't post it", and be correct about it.

as much as people would love to have rules for everything, there's more things people can think of than we can, some of which are well... not banned explicitly

@tripleee no. It banned ChatGPT in answers only. Whole point here is questions.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars in general, in situations like this CMs go "hey what happened" at worst
and trust the mods to do their thing

@ShadowWizardChasingStars I'm sure. That is a quote from our meta announcement.

Q: Use of ChatGPT is now banned on Super User

DavidPostillFollowing the discussion (Should we ban ChatGPT on Super User? - Meta Super User) regarding the usage of ChatGPT to generate questions or answers on Super User the community have voted in favour of a ban (1). (1) The highest voted answer by a big margin is that by forest. As a result going forwar...

> As a result going forwards AI generated questions and answers are not allowed on Super User and will be removed with no prior warning. In addition, users may be suspended or deleted.

@DavidPostill it's onebox, not a quote.
@DavidPostill oh. lol
Better write the quote before the onebox. ;)
@DavidPostill well that's a rare case, most don't have it.

1:38 PM
As much as I'd love CMs to take a more active direct role with the community - on most of the communities I work with, Mods word is (mostly) law :D

@SPArcheon still impossible for me to solve.
@JourneymanGeek except on Law.SE ;-)

@ShadowWizardChasingStars The first one is 9 (9 ringbrearers), 4 horsement of apocalypse...
third one you can google

@JourneymanGeek because you can ban @SPA so they won't post the uncouth warning no matter what you say. ;)
Or maybe even better change the "You" to "Shadow" in that warning. :D

@ShadowWizardChasingStars and then end up like Monica.

ow
@SPArcheon That's uh....
too soon I guess?

1:42 PM
@JourneymanGeek it will be too soon in 100 years as well. :D

There was also a ... lot of politics involved

@JourneymanGeek suppose I do.... this will give a number. Still would make zero sense as reply to what I said.

@JourneymanGeek did it ever end?

@SPArcheon I'm not really sure.

go on, search "monica" in the user list on Meta.
that picture is still used as an avatar.
but atlas, I was just implying that Shadow (joke-full obviously) suggestion above seems like a good way to be kicked out of mod status.

1:45 PM
@SPArcheon well - I wouldn't abuse suspensing people
NOT cause I fear punishment

@SPArcheon only one way to find out.... :P

but cause I fear letting y'all down

hmm according to this, next bug is due in four days:
At least we know when the bugs are going to happen!

......
Why do you have a chart keeping track of these things...

@JourneymanGeek rofl

another day, another question posted that will never get an answer.

But you did get answer, even two, back in December on that site.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars If you mean Meta... time to use your answer against you then.
Feb 3 at 17:56, by Shadow Wizard Chasing Stars
@SPArcheon oh that does not count.

2:29 PM
@SPArcheon no, the site where you posted a question few minutes before posting about it here.
But we're on the same mind: assume the worst, and you'll have pleasant surprise if you're wrong.

2:52 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars look at the size of the dev console! that window is fullscreen. the console is unusable.
it's not even a new device i've had this laptop for 5 years. chrome just broke last week.

3:09 PM
@JasonC so maybe you zoomed in somehow by mistake, I once hid something in the dev console by misclicking something, took me hours to add it back. Did others report such behavior?

3:34 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Physics.SE also bans ChatGPT for both questions and answers. physics.meta.stackexchange.com/q/14281/123208

@PM2Ring nice! Maybe we should add some indication in the MSE list of sites that ban ChatGPT?

I've seen questions on some sites where the OP initially asked ChatGPT and got an answer which they weren't sure about, or which was downright confusing, and so they came to Stack Exchange for clarification. In some cases, they posted an excerpt of the ChatGPT conversation, and in other cases they just paraphrased it. Generally, the answers & comments to such questions become a train-wreck...

@PM2Ring naturally...

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Maybe, but it would be a lot of work to add that info now. And those details are generally specified in the linked page for each site, so they aren't hard for curious people to find.
I think it would be good if we had a page about ChatGPT that has a brief explanation of what ChatGPT does, and what it cannot do. Something that's understandable by people who aren't ML experts or programmers, but with links to more technical articles for those wanting more details.
There's some good stuff scattered around on MSO, and in those "ban ChatGPT" links on various meta sites. But IMHO it would be good to have a central easy-to-find page for that info.

3:58 PM
@PM2Ring feel free to start a and if enough votes and details, might one day turn into a faq.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars I want to discuss it a bit first in the various chat rooms I frequent (or lurk in). I'm a programmer, but I don't do ML/AI, and I think we need someone who actually understands GPT-3 well to write such a FAQ. Besides, it's a bit of an odd topic for a FAQ, since it's about something that's not on Stack Exchange. But I guess we can frame it as part of the rationale for our policies regarding AI & chatbots.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars where is zoom for dev console?

FWIW, here's some of my attempts at explaining ChatGPT's limitations: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/422397/4014959 & chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/71?m=63099009#63099009 Also, Scott Aaronson has some great info, but it's probably too technical for the general reader: scottaaronson.blog/?p=6823

Friends, I come bearing another tea experiment
I was making instant noodles
But then I looked over and saw my teas
And I wondered
“What if I added that instant masala chai powder to my noodles?”
So that’s what I did, I added chai to my noodles
The verdict?
It’s Actually Good Holy Heck Why Did That Work
why is this good
why am I enjoying this
What am I doing with my life

5:43 PM
lol
Eleeza the Tea Wizard
@JasonC dunno, maybe that's what they added. But if this would be something that happens to everyone guess the forums would have been flooded.
@PM2Ring one if the issues with it, for me, is that nobody really understands how it works, not even those who write it. People can claim they understand; I don't believe them.
After millions or billions of attempts, something clicked and the AI started to "work as expected". The programmers took this and using it as base for more updates, but nobody know how that one attempt after millions was successful, or why.
