@tripleee just curious, is there any point to use "gone" or "poof" after the two minutes deletion window? Does it add a mark anywhere?

there was a long-standing bug which was recently fixed whereby Smokey was unable to delete its own messages

Reply commands don't get added as comments ever. For instance, "k" or "why" aren't added as comments, they just do the thing that they're supposed to.

personally I don't particularly need the "gone now" notifications, as I monitor the ones I have brought up here until they are gone

@RyanM actually I have seen "why" get added as a comment, but that's certainly not supposed to happen

Since "gone"/"poof"/etc. are commands, they don't get posted as comments

yeah that's...a feature that should probably be removed.

a separate bug, I think we don't completely understand what causes it

I don't subjectively think it's a big problem, we occasionally have to remove some junk (just yesterday I removed a "still up" comment from myself from over a year ago :-) but it's not very intrusive

@tripleee it's caused by this case here, although I don't fully understand the intent behind this.

not really, I just manually report here when Smokey won't (because it only triggered experimental rules, or I misread its status to believe that) and I perceive it to be obvious spam

though it does happen too occasionally, but then I would !!/report in Charcoal, not here

@tripleee I just looked at the timestamp, and it was 9 mins old, I think smokey has a 10-15 min delay before posting here.

my recollection is 5 minutes and the callback in chatcommunicate.py with after=300 seems to confirm this, but that's just a cursory read

oh well, then I'm mistaken

I used to believe it was 3 minutes or something like that, it seems like not that long ago that I discussed it here with someone (Shadow?) and got straightened out, but I can't find that discussion now

I would have normally held back a little longer but I'm about to leave for a bit

@RyanM Wasn't here or around when this particular instance happened, but I think Makyen discovered a situation where ChatExchange (the communication hub Smokey uses for msg deletion) wasn't restarted during some period of SE downtime. cc @Luuklag @Shadow

Though I don't really know what's going on. Could've just been some odd outlier issue.
