@SEisevil predictable to whom? the way shog describes it here the higher ups were annoyed they had to spend 5 minutes thinking about their core community once a year? It's entirely plausible that someone with this little exposure to it had no idea how anyone would react.
of course, what they ended up doing after was pretty much the worst case scenario, but that too is plausible if the people calling the shots view it as annoying distraction and want to expend as little effort as possible on it
Imagine you're a startup business executive. Your main day to day is talking to investors, customers, drumming up support and thinking of ways to market the products. Maybe you don't have exposure to how this is different from say quora or reddit. And then suddenly someone pulls you into something that takes experience and care to handle properly
@Mithical just read article saying that during 2017-2018 winter 45000000 (45M) people got the flu in USA, 60k of them died. Yet they didn't close the airports, didn't check every passenger, and didn't cause panic. So this whole corona thing is.... blown waaay out of any proportions.
if I understand this correctly, the only reason they needed to "urgently" remove monica's diamonds was because the person who usually did it, Jon, would have refused based on his consience, and they didn't want to have to publicly fire him so they chose a time where he was at his son's soccer practice
@Magisch it fits perfectly for the image I have in mind for some people. Plus, it's a business. It was their full right to do it, and they can also suspend now hundreds of users on a whim. Evan was correct in some things, as annoying as it may be: SE is a dictatorship, for good and for bad.
yep, Snor seems to be recovering well, by the looks of it.
My gf volunteers at a charity that focuses on conservation of and education about reptiles. They often have events at big pet-shops where they offer handling sessions and classes about reptiles. Last saturday we helped at a petshop/zoo in The Hague
It's basically a full day of walking around with snakes and having kids handle them
We had two ball pythons, a milk snake, a corn snake, a bearded dragon, a blue-tongue skink, some monitor lizard (only for classes) and an albino burmese python (also only for classes)
oh, and a big spider (but that's not really my specialty)
@Magisch That's not how I read it. Certainly nobody paid much attention to me taking time away from the computer now and then. Lots of people could have done the actual demodding.
@JonEricson shog also has no idea. Considering this and what I know about monica (monica is polite to a fault and super reasonable, even telling her to take an early holiday would probably have sufficed if there even was a problem) I can only conclude that there was no urgency and that either someone threatened them to write a scathing post somewhere or they wanted you and as many other people who might object as possible out of the picture
@Yaakov hey, quick question... any chance you can add GitHub icon to the OpenID Logos sprites image? Thanks, and "No" is totally acceptable response, as always. :)
don't ask me if this user has just reused the image (good luck to the company in any attempt to claim ownership on a picture that seems to use the original show flash puppets) or they actually work in the company.
They built a Gundam (bicorn?) a few years ago, and there's walking ones more recently: https://youtu.be/zgF_-JEBG1M?t=1m8s https://youtu.be/Z-ouLX8Q9UM?t=16m46s https://youtu.be/-DKwl0OjoYE https://youtu.be/F1nVldck7HM
@JourneymanGeek see here. Disclaimer: was written far ago, before some additional clues were found, so some part aren't really fitting. The core still stands.
@Magisch You aren't familiar with @Shadow's reading time, are you? Every time he asks a question in the other room, he cries that I reply with a wall of text and that it will take him a day to read it :P
Hey guys, anyone with a gold FR badge around here, that could reverse the dupe closure of this question meta.stackexchange.com/questions/343178/… the other way around.
As the closed question has a status tag, and an answer, whilst the dupe tartget has neither.
Spitballing: What would people think of a status-obsolete tag instead of the "can no longer be reproduced" close reason? Closing questions that were perfectly fine like that has never sat well with me. (For instance: meta.stackexchange.com/q/217432/294691)
I came across this bug report that was closed after it has been tagged status-completed. It looks like a perfectly fine bug report to me, but somehow it was closed as off-topic.
Take a look at the close reason:
The problem described here can no longer be reproduced. Changes to the system or ...
The difference being that it wasn't tagged as fixed (as is often the case) but was fixed either as a result of another unassociated report or simply changes made over time (an orphan bug).
the counter increments as long as you hit the repcap as I understand it. But as always, if someone who knows what they're talking about disagrees... :D
and a reversal gets treated as a rep addition/removal event
A Stack Exchange employee just said the following regarding the mobile site:
We are actively working on the responsive design that works on both desktop and mobile, based on screen size. Once that is finished and perfected, mobile web will be slated for complete removal.
I was recently visi...
@Rubiksmoose I... kinda "dislike" FF7 for a series of reasons. Mind you, I still enjoy it from a gameplay perspective, but I am not very fond of the plot.
Update: Findings are shared here.
You might know the user profile and settings. It’s what appears after you click on your profile picture.
Maybe you come here to track your Q&A activity or to update your Developer Story. Maybe you’ve stopped by to manage your email settings, opt-in to Be...
OK, let me re-phrase. Responsive design, in my opinion, means moving things around to fit all kinds of screens. e.g. in the top bar, on smaller screen, the rep and badges disappear, hamburger menu appears, side bar move to the bottom, etc. From quick look in the profile page with the same small screen size, nothing changes. It's the exact same content, just in small screen. So of course it's all messed up.
@Rubiksmoose I wouldn't want to annoy/bore you out... but I have my reason to believe that some of that plot is just a desperate attempt at .... be what they weren't meant to be.
@Rubiksmoose well, avoiding the "ultimate" theory that FF7 was actually born as FF6-2 which is just kinda of a personal rant more than something I could prove I simply think that the "death" was far less planned that they are trying to make it appear.
I also kinda think that "Tifa" was just a "last minute" sort of addition to be fair.
@Rubiksmoose well, I am not exactly inclined to think there was a lot of thought about the "plot" when the character was famous more because of the way she kicked enemies (hint: short dress and high kick) than for her role in the story.
@BlueSoul Yeah... female characters in FF haven't necessarily been the best. And Tifa is definitely one of the less good ones IMO (and from very limited FF experience)
fanservice oriented character, forced triangle resolution, martial artist that end ups in a slap fight because female.... throw some stereotype in, she probably has that.
I mean, at least it is not DoA... but I kinda expected something better from FF
Heh. I've been trying to figure out what in the world you people are talking about. It finally dawned on me that "FF" is more likely to be "Final Fantasy" than "Firefox", which means everything else I don't get is presumably some sort of gaming jargon.
