Can I set the CPU on fire by reading a value from HI:LO and then writing it back immediately? :P

@JohnDvorak probably not? My guess is they have a very primitive MUL and DIV implementation and basically they rube goldberged it together

I want to see the circuit diagram that can cause a register read to be delayed - but also used immediately even before the read actually happens.

@JohnDvorak go look at VHDL, unless you put a read and write enable line on the register anything can happen

Oh, VHDL. We wrote some back when I was at a university

also... halfway to 100k ;)

user302202
A pretty good post, that one. I haven't seen a design decision that would support Direction #2 yet.

I just reloaded the newest questions page, and now I need to wash my eyes
I’m a registered user and I’m still annoyed by this so+called joke. It’s a pain anyway and it’s buggy which does not help. — Rob Moir 28 mins ago
Oh boy there we go again, killjoys

@EKons it will, yes.
@EKons No

I agree with the question, but making an April prank opt-in goes right against the idea of pranking eye roll

3:37 PM
I don't like it either

The regex (repeated for context: matteorusso\W*(?:dot\W*)?business\W*(?:at\W*)?gmail\W*(?:dot\W*)?com) includes a ? after the dot and at group, which means it's optional

user302202
The previous ones (unicoin, etc) used to be opt-in.

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard honestly - I'm a little annoyed at the people getting grumpy over the AFD joke but...

A side effect is that it will catch .dot, but a good thing is that it will also catch <space>(dot)<space> and <space>(at)<space>

@Olivia hm, looks like I missed the preceding \W*s

3:39 PM
Basically, it covers email obfuscation

I can't really think of any productive way to express that

@AskQuestionWizard Would you please allow me to pour salt into your tea?

user302202
People have feelings. They can express them.

user302202
They don't have to be positive feelings.

In 140 characters
@JourneymanGeek Arguing about whether a prank has merit doesn't seem to align much with productive-ness thing

3:40 PM
@AskQuestionWizard one can choose not to, if it does no one any good.
@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard it does not
hence I shant

So it's a self-fulfilling prophecy at that

@JourneymanGeek How would you feel if someone replaced the content of every website you visited with a broken, randomly toggling, over-animated undisableable "feature" that you can't remove?

You can't remove it?

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard it was broken for a bit
@Olivia for a few days... and it isn't the end of the world.

If you're gonna add a that intrusive feature, you better make sure it's possible to disable easily...

3:41 PM
OK whatever

@Olivia I've been clicking on that button every page

I digress before making a moletain out of a mounthill
meta.stackoverflow.com/a/374490/5210517 @Ask TL;DR;? I dunno if I've read it or not before
Oh, I've read it before
> What are your favorite colors?

Green and yellow purple.
Now we know who to blame for the coloring

user302202
It's notable as possibly the last gasp of moderation-minded approach from the SE side.

My question is who are Meg, Jane and Lisa.

That sounded too much like dinosaur documentaries. Don't be grim

3:45 PM
pretty sure the "Guestbook" is fake...

@EKons the names might...
OH

@EKons There's a post on it

A: Why does the guestbook chatbox not produce any network activity?

4dr14n31t0r Th3 G4m3rBecause all happens client-side and the messages are not comments from real people, but autogenerated with javascript. If you press Control+U in Chrome you will be able to look the code of the website that is rendered by your browser. Go to lines 478-525 and you'll find the following javascript ...

Ok, who are Jane and Lisa. I worked out who Meg is

@JourneymanGeek Meg is the big shark thingy who seemed to have an aversion against little girls as far as the trailer was concerned

3:45 PM
The content is randomly gen-... ninja'd

Now, I don't have anything against the badass bald British guy trying out new things

The cynic in me says it's because now every question has to load twice. Once in the 90's mode and once the legit version.

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard and IIRC the new PM

@JourneymanGeek What?

Also two possible Jons
@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard product manager
she didn't replace Theresa May

3:48 PM
I like that both of us are probably confused right now
Not much else can express the balance of yin and yang so eloquently
The Comic Sans reminds me of my earliest PPT presentations, so kinda nostalgic

In before the time machine announcement hits double negatives :P

@JohnDvorak Poor Jon. Be nice! He probably didn't even have anything to do with making that atrocity :P

alright, newest meta post...

I'm not saying what should happen, just what is inevitably going to :P

HA HA HA
I FRIGGING KNEW IT

3:52 PM
meta.stackexchange.com/q/326037/369802 I want this one to happen!

nice sword over there
@Tinkeringbell hm, has there been a rise of off-topic questions today?

@EKons More of a decline: haven't dealt with a single one yet.

surprising, given that the banner says "WELCOME TO STACKOVERFLOW"...
or maybe that means some people just thought SE is a playground and didn't bother to ask serious questions...

Well, then the new design had a good side-effect

4:09 PM
for us yes, for SO... no

user302202
Wisely kept MathOverflow out of this.

lol yeah they would have just scoffed SE and start their own domain immediately

user302202
I actually don't think MO has enough energy left to leave SE network. The mostly young mathematicians who were its founders grew up and have more things going on nowadays.

Leaving is always a possibility. Consequences are matter for the future.

Q: Why was my edit rejected even though it complies with the guidelines?

Gilles HeineschI read some posts about this question, and still it doesn't make sense that my edit suggestion was rejected. Posts that I read: Why was my edit rejected? Why was my suggested edit rejected repeatedly? Why was suggested edit rejected? Why was my suggested edit rejected? Here is my suggested...

What do you know, these posts do happen

doesn't look like a joke. voted to close as off-topic

Hmm, more like off-time. Overtime?
Now you know what would be a hilarious April fools joke? Every meta posts starts at -5 by default

That's actually a very good idea

5:29 PM
@Tinkeringbell um... what
still a bit low :P

@AskQuestionWizard YMMV but collaborative but non-English parts of the internet are absolutely incomparable to the English side so it doesn't seem much of a leap

user302202
RuNet has something of its own... Notably, Russian is missing from those 17.

Do revision histories look kinda broken to other people?

the whole site looks broken ...

6:15 PM
Hahahah

@AskQuestionWizard how do you support half a language?

That's what I see, with a humongous scrollbar on the bottom to scroll right, towards which user did it.
It's a great way of anonymizing stuff, I don't know if that was intended? 😛

user302202
Well, they exactly doubled the number of non-English languages.

@Tinkeringbell due to revision 409, so status-by-design

6:17 PM
@rene Oh, thanks :)

I would call it broken as expected

@rene Fixed it :)

@Tinkeringbell hehehehe :D

user302202
There's a proposal to re-create the defunct Operations Research Q&A on SE platform...

user302202
6:29 PM
Apparently the old one (based on QSQA) was "spammed out of existence".

This april 1st theme makes my face hurt

@TravisJ Smile more often. That way you can smile about a good joke without hurting your face :D

I think it is the rapid pace of facepalm
Smiling doesn't seem to affect that

Aww 😬
I feel it grows on you quite rapidly

@Tinkeringbell It's like the least controversial joke any big company has come up with since 2016 but I feel a big portion of complainers would have complained regardless of the joke
So comic sans and purple doesn't seem to be the main issue here

Q: Network Profile shouldn't be showing comments that were auto-generated and immediately auto-deleted

AlexI closed a question with my Gold Badge a couple of days ago. When I happened to peruse the comment history on my Network Profile just now, I noticed the following comment on that post: Possible duplicate of Why is Gellert Grindelwald considered as second darkest wizard when he terrorised th...

O.o

6:37 PM
@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard I understand that for a substantial amount of people the joke was ruined when they couldn't turn it off in any satisfying way.

Why would it show deleted comments in the first place?
@Tinkeringbell Mhm that is more understandable but still kinda an after-the-fact thing

@Tinkeringbell not being able to turn it off was the joke. The design stays ...

The complainers, how quaint. Mostly the issue is that the page causes a trigger for migraines.

user302202
@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard Also one of the least original. If I wanted Geocities look, I'd use wonder-tonic.com/geocitiesizer or "90s web" Chrome extension or whatever

user302202
Having it pop up without me asking, when I'm showing Math.SE answer to someone, is something else.

6:40 PM
@TravisJ Actually, the visitors of this chat that do dislike the joke just dislike the joke in a legit way but you do not represent the majority of annoyed people
It's perfectly OK to not like a joke. Or anything else. Even ice cream

So my disliking of it is illegitimate?

OK, it's not OK to not like ice cream
@TravisJ No I meant the other way around, I'm running out of English

Whatever. Have a good one.

You dislike the joke, but the majority dislike SO making a joke hence they would have complained anyway
That's what I was saying. shrug
Crap. Not fond of how that conversation went or the fact that it was my fault. What's the normal internet thing to do in situations like these?
Deep inhale? Throwing everything in a paper bag and throwing it at my alter ego? Maybe ask something on IPS

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard It shouldn't. But that might not be because it doesn't inherently show them, but because the deletion is instantaneous (i.e. there is no noticeable unit of time that it should display).

7:13 PM
Hey @rene today I read an answer that said Zondag met Lubach isn't funny

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard WUT! Fake news!

Nowhere? It's only on questions pages.
