3:33 AM
morning

Only 7 days until happy hour

sips water sadly
on the bright side, the new PC is mostly set up

@JourneymanGeek What was the budget?

@SonictheWizardWerehog I more or less built a slightly budget version of the SE dev rig
(cheaper, less fancy ram, cheaper, less fancy case, cheaper storage, but slightly more of it...)
so about 2.3k sgd. Probably a little more than online prices
also a crapload of RGB LEDs.... accidentally

3:51 AM
@JourneymanGeek Do you have to import parts from the United States?

no
Installing a 980 later

@JourneymanGeek How much was that 1 TB SSD?

about 240 sgd
its sata/m.2 though
also the speccy temperatures seem a bit fishy

50℃ on storage!?

temperatures don't look right ;p

3:55 AM
seems reasonable?

its not under any load though.
I guess 50 is 'warm'

Aren't you in like... Some sort of southern climate anyway though?

ya
and aircon is off...

So... If it's like 30 ambient...

will check properly later ;p
ya

@JourneymanGeek Let me guess...Singapore lies close enough to the Equator so seasons aren't much of an issue there?

Under 70 who cares
"if you can hold your finger to it without wincing, it's cool enough to run"

@JourneymanGeek Liquid block CPU cooler, however?

Previous laptop had a problem with fan and exhaust, ocassionally raised GPU to 100 to shutdown automatically 🙄

not really set up the fans properly though

3:58 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, that's what I mean by "block"

big ass heat sinks FTW

@Shog9 my place is dusty
I can unscrew the radiator and blow it out more easily

yeah, that's a problem
still contemplating building a ground-source heat pump

I just... really don't feel like drilling holes in an outside wall

4:00 AM
that's the case. NOT as nice as my cosair, or the one SE uses on their new build. I wanted a CM HAF XB but apparently they don't sell them locally any more
@Shog9 technically might not need to...

ok, sure

out a window?

don't feel like drilling pits into my floor either

pfft ;p
(actually, dead sata, and possibly dead sound aside, I probably could try exotic cooling on my old box...)
it still mostly runs

Actually a pretty good idea for a computer chair.

there's no hyphens...
actually you could make a mint with heated/cooled computer chairs

5:49 AM
Chairs? I'm thinking actual sinks... though why you would want to warm up a donkey in them, I'm not certain... and if they're big enough for a donkey, certainly they're tubs rather than sinks?

cause no one likes a cold ass.
especially the donkey
and an overheated ass might be unhappy too

6:23 AM
I know I grump about dupe closes buuut
or something unique?

6:50 AM
@JourneymanGeek Not a duplicate

well, technically...
the answer is mostly "No, because all the stuff in this post"

@JourneymanGeek If the answer is such that you have to reason it out by incorporating multiple facts from the FAQ, it's not a duplicate. (If it's clearly stated there, then yes.)

erm.. its mostly "read the FAQ"
;p
Admittedly - there's a bit more but someone reading and grokking the HNQ would have made a different set of assumptions
but hey, that's kinda the point of bringing stuff like that up

7:20 AM
hm
Its the ios client but ... meta.stackexchange.com/questions/324691/… signs of life on the SE app ;)

We're getting better at this. I don't even know what this guy is frustrated about meta.stackexchange.com/questions/324687/…

hah
he wants comment notifications whether or not he's read them
Now you do.

I doubt that's why he's frustrated

Well, bits of the post seem irrelevant
And the response to Adam's comment

7:28 AM
peeks at his profile on MSE and SU ;p

Now you're doing it right
Ah, disappointing
I expected a "why close popular questions" on meta.SO before coming to meta.SE

2 hours later…
9:23 AM
23 messages moved to Chimney

1 hour later…
10:45 AM
Hm
Is the Android client broken for anyone else?
NVM logged out and in

sorry, I am off topic, but i can't find how to open a new room

There's also a button on the bottom of the page when you're on the room list

@Shaymin thanks!

No problem ^^

lol...
Oops! Something Bad Happened!

10:53 AM
oof
Might be an internal issue?
ooh, nvm

@Shaymin thought i read i only needed 20, but i guess that is for talking not owning rooms :)

yeah. You also need 1k for gallery rooms

i need help from a mod/10k+ person accessing a message that was removed
i was asking how to do that here, but the message is actually on SO, so maybe I should be poking in the chat rooms there anyway

@Mike Is it a chat message?

No. It's a question on SO. stackoverflow.com/questions/48034930/…

11:09 AM
I can help with that
It got rooma'd btw

@Shaymin ah, in the shadow den?
moving to shadow den

@Mike anywhere is fine though

1 hour later…
12:38 PM
@Mike there's no 'real' topic here

Looks like the topic of keeping Uranus warm was thoroughly covered last night.

4:39 PM
@Bookends you report it to have a record of it in MetaSmoke?

@rene yes

Okay. For a moment I thought you weren't aware your spam flags are binding as mod ;)

Can't flag through Smokey as a mod.

What happens if you try to use FIRE?

4:55 PM
Nothing. You have to flag manually on the site.

@Catija Since FIRE is a local user script, can't you modify it to allow you to flag even as a mod, or is the restriction server-side?

@SonictheWizardWerehog FIRE uses the metasmoke interface to flag, and that has a hard block from letting mods flag
It's the same mechanism used for autoflags, and autoflags can't be by mods, so that's the rationale

That^

Would be nice to be able to sort network search results somehow... stackexchange.com/search?q=flagging

user302202
Granted, search parameters can help with some of that.

user302202
In network-wide search for title:"need help" the first result is from ruSO.... stackexchange.com/search?q=title%3A%22need+help%22

user302202
TIL .az TLD is Azerbaijan and not Amazon.

user302202
5:37 PM
A question with the title "Need Help - CSS" was asked on SO in 2018. I'd expect the filter to not allow that.

user302202
OTOH maybe it's fine if posts like this flow through the sewers unnoticed.

5:56 PM
@MSOGA In a similar vein, ".ms" is Montserrat and not Microsoft.

Q: Any answers will help

Cynthia JoyI also have a 2003 Honda Civic with an overheating problem. It does not leak any coolant or even steam up but the temp gague goes up and it smells hot. I have had the thermostat, radiator, fan sensor, fan, water pump and timing belt replaced with no results. It runs fine for a few days, but alway...

@MSOGA ^This question was asked on a graduated site four months ago and no one has changed the title

user302202
6:08 PM
Yeah, and the "answer" it got will not help.

user302202
Edit suggested, btw

user302202
But .apple TLD is indeed for Apple and not for fruit related websites. icannwiki.org/.apple

user302202
6:23 PM
I recall the lyrics shown under the top Google search hit for a song title used to be simply the first several lines.

user302202
But nowadays we have AI and ML and whatnot, so the most important part is shown instead of the beginning.

user302202

6:45 PM
@MSOGA Yes, in 2010 ICANN began allowing companies to register TLDs belonging to their trademarks. Canon was the first to do so, and a few years later started using it: global.canon

7:41 PM
2010 . . . that's like 180 years ago

Rob
8:10 PM
That's what you get for traveling 99% the speed of light.

meta.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic explains where to ask about SO Jobs/Talent, but does not mention SO teams.

Meta.SO, Meta.SE, or email SE
