@Catija May I trouble you to do a sockpuppet check (same IP) on the first few users mentioned in that comment. They are all new, members of the same blog, link their blog post to their SE post, one posted an NAA and a superfluous link to the site. The last two seem to be unrelated to my complaint (suspicious nature).

@SupaMegaDuckyMomodaWaffle Quick tip when submitting future tag wiki edits: it's not necessary to use "meta-tag"; "tag" works absolutely fine. (The reason why you see it being used here is because long back, the latter syntax would link to Stack Overflow tags; it no longer does that, so it's unnecessary.)

3:51 AM
@SonictheWizardWerehog ehh... I just use whatever the tag wiki currently uses. As you said, they both work the same on metamain sites like MSE, so I keep the convention currently in use.

Q: Stepping down as a moderator

ManishEarthI've been inactive for many years at this point, occasionally dropping by and handling some flags but not really participating. I love this site, but I also don't have the time to give to it, and I really don't need the diamond for anything. So I'm stepping down. You can read more about this at...

user302202
Manish resigns on both sites.

So... it really happened...

user302202
I still remember reading MO tea (then meta) one day when a strange question came up from an outsider... mathoverflow.tqft.net/discussion/1512/…

user302202
I was more puzzled by the username than by the question, parsing it as three words.

user302202
That was a preCoCious thread.

3:09 PM
@Bookends few years too late. With all due respect, moderator should have the basic responsibility to contact SE staff once they can't moderate anymore, not wait for YEARS and let the site users wonder and be hurt by having less moderators.
So... that's just bad behavior that can't be justified by "I got busy".
Writing email takes few minutes.

@ShadowWizard unless you have no idea how to say it, or if you're a slow typer.

And that's why it's better to have the system handle those things, e.g. if a moderator isn't active for whole month, a warning will be sent to their inbox/email... if one month pass without a reaction, the CM team will be alerted and the mod will be taken down.
Users who vanish into thin air is one thing, but when it becomes a moderator who simply vanish, and just because "they got busy", well.... it's hurting the site. Badly.
Anyway....
!!/coffee

@ShadowWizard brews a cup of Ristretto for @ShadowWizard

Anyway....

3:14 PM
How can I remove unused "My filter" on SE Filtered Questions?

heheh
Can't
I got dozens.

Just as I thought...... 😕

MSE feature request in 3... 2... 1....
Feature done in 1.... 2... 3... [years]

-6-8 points for not referencing a meme.

3... 2... 1... meme!

3:20 PM
^ should be "6... 7... 8... meme!"

@ShadowWizard that system already exists...

@Shog9 so how come there was a mod idle for years?
Nobody paid attention to the alerts?

@ShadowWizard define "idle"

@Shog9 Not performing a single mod action.
Well, maybe one in a month which is also the same as none.

Well, that's not really the same is it
If the system is set up to check the date of the last action - which it is - then 1 action / mo is sufficient

3:25 PM
Well even on small sites it's useless.

@Shog9 I'm curious about this, but can mod do mod actions without updating their public "Last access" date?

Kinda
That gets into a whole big mess surrounding the 9-year-old set of queries that drive a bunch of the mod activity reports... I spent some time documenting their deficiencies on Friday, and... They need some updating.

There are a bunch of mod activities that aren't tracked at all, and a bunch of weird edge cases for the activities that are tracked.
So... To put it kindly, the system errs on the side of ignoring non-flag-handling
To put it less kindly: it just errs a lot.
Got a TODO on our backlog to update these

I wonder if it ever really worked, i.e. if a moderator was taken down due to being identified as idle?

3:31 PM
Hmm, last time we talked about that on here was...

@Bookends Four score and seven years ago?

@ShadowWizard yes, lots

@Shog9 oh

We don't make a big deal about it

So someone does watch the watchmen

3:34 PM
No, "Shadow Wizard is a lazy lump and is being demodded" meta post

But who watches the watchmen watchman?
I think the only solution is a loop

Must be always three

These government theories are so boring.
If Aristotle spent time on figuring out why apples fall, we might have been ahead a bit

One to watch the other two, one to watch for collusion between the other two, one to watch for problems with the remaining two.

I want a Venn diagram

3:38 PM
@Shog9 :(
:D

user302202
Unless the site would have a new election if the mod resigned earlier, I don't see what the damage of overstaying is.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Enter
works on all sites.

@MSOGA If the mod informs the team that they'll be gone for a while, people are okay with the mod staying as far as I know.
But vanishing leaves no guarantee they'll come back

Or just stay in the state of visiting once in a month and not being available for emergency calls, which is far worse.
(as it gives false signal the mod is active while they're not really.)

3:51 PM
@ShadowWizard I'm not available all the time either. I need sleep sometimes. Honestly, it doesn't do that much harm..if it ever did, SE would just de-mod people sooner by now.
Y'all are also really easily bypassing how hard it may be to say goodbye to a community of people that you've spent some really good times with online.

@Tinkeringbell of course not 24/7 but chance you'll be available is big, in case you're not asleep. Someone who is busy elsewhere has very small chance to be available.
@Tinkeringbell no need to say goodbye, just give the diamond back.

> I wouldn't blame the contest directly. I would blame the SE administrators, who wouldn't let us graduate without the 10 questions per day. We were happy being a smaller site with ~5 good-quality questions per day. We were steadily generating quality content. But we were pressured to double our output. Of course it's going to come at the expense of quality. -- Contest creating questions that are just 2 tags strung together?
Looks like a slippery slope...
Even if the site got 10 Qs/day, would it immediately graduate..?

@ShadowWizard There's a lot of people I'd likely miss talking to... You'd say goodbye to them as you only talk with them in mod rooms..

Even if the site has graduated, will a similar contest in the future prevent the issue..?

4:06 PM
@Bookends isn't the whole graduate thing outdated by now, at least design-wise?

@ShadowWizard design and pro-tempore election

The top book on Role-playing Games (by far) is "Assertiveness at Work" (?)

user302202
@Bookends Apparently not, considering Hinduism has been over 10 QPD for months.

@ShadowWizard Yes, a comprehensive overhaul of the graduation system is just around the corner.

I'd prioritize "Need help" over that, though.

The "So, this is a badge" badge.
