@Blue To be more accurate, we're both hedgehogs...
@Blue It's closed now, but it would be nice if you commented about the details of how you bypass the client-side limit.

Edit the HTML. It's not particularly interesting.

@Blue Out of curiosity, how long do you expect these users to wait before they can lodge an appeal? One year? Five years? Not at all?

They can lodge one whenever they like, with the team.

@ArtOfCode What's the exact edit? Remove maxlength=4?

yup
And the team will do what they think is best. Which, in my experience, is usually to support the moderators - moderators don't tend to go round issuing max length suspensions without good reason for it.

@SonictheWizardWerehog actually at this point... Never

@ArtOfCode Okay, let me clarify. I'm asking them how long they'll wait until they themselves would consider an appeal (i.e. reducing the suspension length to time served). I'm aware that there are channels in case the user believes it to be unjustified overall.

@SonictheWizardWerehog How long who would wait? The team?

Needing to throw a maximum length chat suspension is rare

@ArtOfCode The suspending mod.

@SonictheWizardWerehog Irrelevant. Suspending moderators don't deal with appeals.

@SonictheWizardWerehog one of those suspensions indicates an extended pattern of poor behavior or trolling

If, say, ten years later, the user wants to chat as a legitimate user, would such an appeal be considered?

The real question is - after everything has failed, how do we know the user will make a positive contribution to the community
@SonictheWizardWerehog it's plausible no one will remember then
