1:00 PM
@JourneymanGeek Hmm... I reckon it must be. Rude and abusive flags were in the tens of thousands per year in 2015 (on SO, but I assume that is where the vast majority of them are): meta.stackoverflow.com/a/302786/1709587
Unless there's been a 50-fold increase in flags since then, the claim isn't true

@MarkAmery Let's say an average of 5 R/A or spam flags on a post before nuke, and 400000 all over the SE network makes some sense to me
Couple of biggish sites have been around since SO itself took off, like Journey's site

35636 spam posts alone, that's already 213k flags just on spam

@MarkAmery umm.. no? Why would they lie about it?

All time makes sense

self-reminder: never search "inurl:_layouts/15/viewlsts.aspx" on Google. It is always worrisome to see the results

1:04 PM
Also we will never see a large number of comment flags with blacklisted words I suspect

Yeah, there's no need. A big number is a big number and it intends to shock and awe the audience. 2 million or 500k wouldn't differ to an outsider
@JourneymanGeek Thanks in advanced

@MarkAmery Also... inappropriate can mean a lot.

@Derpy why?

@Derpy Nice try, I'm not Googling it

NAA's are inappropriate for SE too

1:05 PM
@ShadowWizard Derpy's real life name is inurl

@ShadowWizard To make the welcoming drive sound like it's caused the removal of more content than it really has
@Tinkeringbell Fair enough; I guess that's vague enough to conceivably cover every flag.

@MarkAmery no, SE isn't Trump, and don't use fake news to boost their power and affect people. As far as I know, and still believe that. :)
Maybe it's not 1,999,999 flags, and even not 1,900,000 but I'm sure it's also more than 1,000,000

@Tinkeringbell Including flags on obsolete comments, I guess - they're just on content that's... "no longer" appropriate :P

@ShadowWizard A wheel is older than a wall

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ a bird is bigger than an ant.

1:08 PM
I wonder if he watched too many cartoons about Egyptians making a pyramid

@MarkAmery You got it! :P Though I understand the confusion, and this makes it sound like that's 2 million flags on real nastiness instead of general janitorial tasks.

Nastyness is a nasty spelling
Nasti is nice
Feels like some chocolate brand

No clue what you're talking about ! :P

I want 70% Nasti dark chocolate

@Tinkeringbell Yes, and I think that's an intentional misdirection, given that the stats are given in the same sentence as a mention of the new code of conduct

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Nestea is better

Self-lacing shoe? Jesus 1st world, let us at least catch up a little bit

@ShadowWizard But then you're supporting Nestle
The EA of food manufacturers

@MarkAmery Well, that's constructive feedback on the next blog post for next year then ;)

1:13 PM
@Tinkeringbell I think @M.A.R. try to be the new @Derpy. So far he's doing a good job towards that. :P

@ShadowWizard that is the url of an "internal" page for a SharePoint web site.

@Magisch Nes is good, it means "miracle" in Hebrew. ;)

any results in that google query is a public facing site that forgot to remove anonymous access to that page

@ShadowWizard No way, I'd be damned. And so will you. Can you tolerate TWO Lewis Carroll quoters?

Funny trivia fact: in Hebrew, instant coffee is called "ness coffee", as if it's a miracle happening. :D
@Derpy OK, and? What's wrong with that? How a web page be "internal"?

1:15 PM
that specific page "only" shows all of the site content, including list names and number of items - yet the fact that the query returns 18k results....
a potential sign of much worse issues

Fun new question in the new question page
Wait, it's actually not fun. They already plead guilty
I want a rant. I WANT A RANT
Is it so much to ask? :'(

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ +5 points to you in the "Unclear Chatter Contest". So far it's 560 for @Derpy and 420 for you. :D

@ShadowWizard that page shows the structure of the site collection. Doesn't make much sense to have it configured with anonymous access.

@ShadowWizard Dude. Doood. You should see me when I'm being REALLY unclear

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Hey, if you don't try... I did the same when they banned my Neopets account XD

1:18 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ rant for rent. It cost 10 rants to buy five!

It is true that that specific page doesn't really give much attack surface but it is a clear sign of potential issues.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ show me! :P
@Derpy lazy programmer? ;)

Undo's call for higher quality spam and rant has never been more relevant
@ShadowWizard It mostly happens when my attempted jokes end up too brainy

@ShadowWizard that's not SharePoint programmers fault but yep, that basically sums it.

That was, hmm, early 2017?

1:20 PM
oh, BTW, the cheese board is perfect fit in my kitchen!

@ShadowWizard Finally!
Glad to see it arrived :P

@ShadowWizard to give you a not-so-good comparison, leaving that page viewable with anonymous access on a public site is somehow similar to leave directory browsing turned on on an asp.net internet facing site.

Who is alpa chino?
And why there is zippykid in the image URL?! lol
Image will surely rot soon.
(i.e. when SE will switch blog platform again, which might be couple of months, maximum couple of years.)

Alfredo James Pacino (; born April 25, 1940) is an American actor and filmmaker. Pacino has had a career spanning more than five decades, during which time he has received numerous accolades and honors both competitive and honorary, among them an Academy Award, two Tony Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, a British Academy Film Award, four Golden Globe Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute, the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the National Medal of Arts. He is one of few performers to have won a competitive Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony Award for acting, dubbed...

They're now back to WordPress, for the third time or so, right? (After failed attempts to make their own platform)

1:23 PM
al pacino + alpaca meme == alpa_chino

@Derpy cheers! Now it's 540:420 for you in the contest. ;)
@Tinkeringbell thanks! :)
@Derpy well, assuming it's anonymous on default, it's Microsoft fault, But yeah...

alcappuccino?
did I miss some yoga-cabalist?

@andmyself nah just a featured user.
Could be funny if they used a spammer as example.
(assuming they picked in random.)

@ShadowWizard eh, likely

1:38 PM
So poor alpa will rot away.... :(

@andmyself you... kept the cup?! :D

yeah, I cup the keep

Seemed funny at the time, but even I'm occasionally guilty of bad judgement.

@Derpy just bring a beholder

@ShadowWizard was thinking of something more similar to this....

nah that's not disintegrating enough.
Infinity War had cool disintegration effect.
That's how I always imagined the actual D&D spell to work. :D

Hence it is considered a valid target for teleportation interception in D&D Epic Teleport Interception, re-routed to True Disintegration. Sayonara.
@Derpy What series is that from...

Oh. I that it was actually gonna be nice then I just see... that really badly estimated sphere.

Here's a conundrum. Can I as a tag gold badge holder single handedly reopen a question that was closed as duplicate by a mod who is also a tag gold badge holder

Ok... it looked better with all the flames.

3:01 PM
@Magisch sure. Why not?
There're no complex checks in place.
Just be careful to explain (e.g. comment) why you wanted to do that.
Otherwise mod might get not-so-happy.

Oh I'm not gonna do it
It's a political issue and the close vote is a "we should just get over it" type of measure
I'd like to keep my gold badge

@Magisch mod can't take away badges.
Oh, suspension?

Nah

/shrug they can do more than that

That was a snappy shorthand for saying I'm unwilling to stir the pot over it

3:04 PM
@FreezePhoenix well, even while suspended, you still keep your badges, in theory.

pointing @Derpy towards sandbox room
;)
@Derpy yeah, since they fixed it so we can't onebox deleted posts even if we can see them, they should also fix that one. Feel free to start the bug report. :D

@ShadowWizard Why would someone ask to not be able to do something?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Can we not do <various questionable activities separated by commas>

@ShadowWizard was just checking if only old references to a deleted post continued to be displayed or if you could even post new messages that quoted an older one and still get them to be displayed

3:58 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ because it means people will see things they should not be able to see.
Sometimes rooms are deleted for good reason, so oneboxing messages from those isn't a good idea.

@ShadowWizard Or things they don't wanna see, or do things they should not be able to do or do things they don't want to do

@FreezePhoenix heh, kind of, yeah
@Derpy onebox is raw text, it never changes.
(unless of course manually edited by mod)

Mods are... so op yet up
There's so much mods can do that isn't documented.
(I assume XD)

mods can suspend SE employees

lol, but that goes both ways
the SE employee could just edit the mod right out of the database, even while the employee is suspended.

4:14 PM
@FreezePhoenix only very few employees got direct access to database, as far as I know.

Doesn't like.... Tim Post have access?

or DROP TABLE

But any decent company worth it's salt will at least log commands.
So anybody dropping tables will at least have an audit log that gets them a stern talking to.

dropping the table would do lots of things lol
including dropping the employee privs

So would backups.

for one it looks like not a question

That's for starters

Uh... close the question. Tell them that isn't not really related, it's neurology, not biology, and that in any case, they need to actually state a question.
If they followed the rules on titles, then it doesn't seem related to the site. If they didn't then they didn't do the post the way it should have been done, and is subject to closure in that case anyhow.

@b_jonas I think you can make a new one in that case, refer to the old one and use the case that disproves it's fixed as an example ;)

@b_jonas last time I know it's related to User image is too heavy (the title is a bit misleading, but long story short, it's a problem with imgur not resizing the image again)

That photo is a great improvement over the previous ones because by knocking back the intensity of the Sun you have preserved the limited dynamic range budget and grabbed a ton of details in the foreground.
Yes, it's much better. The important thing is that you are happy, it as another person said subtlety we only want to see the result of practice; not each intermediate step.

I really like seeing your photos tbh
