@Tinkeringbell water is edge case, as it got that letter both as first and last: מים. So the first is the "ordinary" shape, and last is same letter, but in its "suffix" form.
But when the letter Mem is the last letter in a word, it will always have that square form.
(regardless of what is the first letter of the word.)

@ShadowWizard So... Then why is the squared one first in 'water'? : מים
That's why I thought my German needs refreshing...

@Tinkeringbell oh, Hebrew is right to left. ;)

Nice, now they tell me...

First letter is the right most.
lol

Can someone trash me being a blonde up there please?!

1:02 PM
Arabic too, BTW.

Kinda stupid. I knew that! (At least the Arabic one...)
And I'm sure we had the info about Hebrew somewhere in religion class as well

:)
Well, Hebrew and Arabic got many similar "features".

I've never really tried to learn any other alphabet than Latin ;)

1:37 PM
@Tinkeringbell ?

@Magisch I made a dumb remark ;) Forgot that Hebrew is supposed to be read from right to left ;)
Wanted the evidence gone before you found it :P

I dont actually remember your hair color tbh

lol it's... a phrase.

I know
I like to beat metaphors into the ground

lol
Even bald men can have blonde moments.

1:43 PM
@Magisch But it's blonde in real life too ;) It's a little worse in summer :P

Like werewolf, but reverse?
When sun is out shining one becomes... more stupid. :P

They actually just had a report about that on the radio... apparently your brain works better in ambient temperatures under ~75 than above.

Sort of ;) My hair usually is a very dark blonde in winter, and get's lighter in the summer sun. But also what Catija said. It's too hot today, even my chocolate melted :(

I do work better way under 75C, thank you.

They're predicting a 1 in 50 chance of temperatures over 42 degrees C next week

1:47 PM
rene's a fireflower
spicy!

@Tinkeringbell "your chocolate"... you carry it in your pocket?! :D

@Tinkeringbell 1 in a 100 for an Elfstedentocht the week after ...

@Tinkeringbell over here it's 50 in 50 chance for many summer days.
(and 50C too.)

@Tinkeringbell you wot
It's 30C here all week and I feel like I'm melting

Are you @Tinkeringbell's chocolate?
So, this became weird pretty quickly.
Back to the query I was writing

1:50 PM

@rene Lol!

And that's average ^^

I am the chocolate now

@ShadowWizard No? But I paid for it, so it's mine ;)

@Tinkeringbell lol... but where was it when it melted?
@Magisch bitter? Or white?

1:51 PM
@ShadowWizard On my desk :)

white chocolate isn't chocolate. It's cocoa butter with sugar

not welcoming, still a bit of fun

@ShadowWizard toasty

@ShadowWizard How do you exist without full AC?

@Magisch still called "chocolate". ;)
@Mgetz I know!
@rene closed by Robert, needz more downvotes now so we can delete
@Magisch well, personally I don't live there, where I live it's around 30 average.

@ShadowWizard that can be done now

yo
I saw this post and was like ugh I gotta edit security.stackexchange.com/questions/189632/…

20k code meta.stackexchange.com/questions/312689/… /cc @ShadowWizard @Glorfindel @Catija @JourneymanGeek

but there is alerady a proposed edit in the queue and it's blocking my edit attempt
I don't have the rep on that site to insta-edit, but I do on others

2:11 PM
@rene kabong

is there a meta Q&A about why users who are trusted on other sites can't inst-edit posts on other sites of the network?

I'm sure there is

I wasn't able to find it just now
I could ask mine, and when someone finds the other they can be dupe-linked

Q: Should trusted users be able to make edits on other sites without review

TannerI've just joined a Stack Exchange site that's in beta and received the usual Association Bonus of +100, for having an account with reputation above the required level on the network. I answered a question on the beta site and decided the question could be clarified with an edit, at which point ...

the answers to that are in shambles

2:15 PM
Why?
Top answer clearly says "no".
Other two are, well, not really needed.

well it's the OP's chosen answer so it's top by the virtue of it being accepted by one person

You can add your own answer if you like. :)
@user1306322 no it also got the top score.
8 vs. 2 for other answers.

and then it gained some votes because that's how it usually goes with selected answers when there are other, non-selected answers

You lose out if you can't suggest edits... no edit reputation.

I've been around the block
I don't exactly trust that these reflect the larger community's thoughts
118 views in 3 years
that's very low

2:17 PM
@user1306322 not really, many times non accepted answers got higher score than the accepted, especially on meta.

20K mp4 meta.stackexchange.com/questions/312690/… /cc @ShadowWizard @Catija @JourneymanGeek @Glorfindel

@Catija well I don't care about reputation if I can already get the privileges

@user1306322 bounty can help with this.
If anything, bounty on MSE does bring some more views. :)

@user1306322 For all you know, the suggested edit already fixes what you want fixed.

I'd rather post a new one
@Catija for all I know which is nothing because I can not see the review queue at my rep level on that site

2:18 PM
A new one that will immediately get closed as a dupe of the existing one?

I really don't like trying to bring attention to trashy old questions with badly written answers

@user1306322 if it would be a discussion (not a feature request requesting directly to allow trusted users to edit anywhere) I'll close as dupe, but feel free.

everyone just ignores them because of how bad they are
I don't want to attract attention to that
I want a new, cleaner post
which might be able to move people to action
this is another issue I have with meta, but it's not what I want to discuss now

Someone knowing how to edit doesn't mean they can do it correctly on every site.

@user1306322 bad only because you disagree with it. It's not nice to call something "bad" just because it does not fit your own idea.

2:20 PM
@ShadowWizard no, it looks bad because it's badly formatted and rambly
people are not likely to read it
have you tried bountying Q&As like that?
I have and in my experience it doesn't do anything because people will avoid it largely for the same reasons they avoided it when it was new

@user1306322 I did, and upvoted. It's clear and send the message the author want. We don't need perfect answers.
And even so, lack of answers is NOT reason to post something again.

(I actually want perfect answers :p)

@user1306322 and I want 1000000000 dollars.

good

@ShadowWizard it's a nice comfortable (but unusual for this season) 18C here

2:21 PM
there's no reason you shouldn't
I gotta say, are the users really trusted if they can't make edits on other sites?
I only wanted to fix some formatting and typos

I know my limits, and prefer to enjoy my time instead of pursuing impossible goals.

I don't want to interfere with the contents of the post

@Mgetz good for you! :D

same here, and this is pretty attainable with little to no effort
well anyway this is approaching the amount of effort I am ready to exert on this issue

@user1306322 on other sites, I might agree. But MSE is different.

2:23 PM
@ShadowWizard Normal highs would be in the 30Cish range

ok, I'm not gonna argue, since I'm not an avid MSE user

You can post it again, I can't prevent it and it's legit. But unless it's different (e.g. direct feature request and not a discussion) I just warn in advance that it will be closed.

3:01 PM
@user1306322 Wrong Tim :P

;p
@TimPost too many Tims to keep track of I guess

@TimPost And it's not even me this time!

@TimStone Oh good, you're here! Hang on; I'll go get your messages.

oh hey, @Tim, what's up with Elections.SE? I think that can safely ping both of you ;)

I'm not sure, I stopped watching over that a couple of years ago.
There was a SSL issue, and an issue with it continuing to be hosted at digital ocean (where I had it parked), but I'm not sure what picked up after that. I can check

3:44 PM
has it been a few years? 0_0
I thought it was with the https move

time flies if you're having fun ...

4 hours left before all elections move to next phase (WB->End, ELL->Voting, Maths->Nomination)
Maybe ELL already has a winner? On the other hand, finally, an unofficial nomination on Maths.

I read a comment saying "Tim post is a treasure" today

Wonder about Shog...

3:59 PM
I'm waiting for one more nomination on ELL... they've promised.

what's the noun for those prizes you get in cereal boxes?

heh, the original loot boxes

"prizes"?
A cereal box prize, also known as a cereal box toy in the UK and Ireland, is a promotional toy or small item that is offered as an incentive to buy a particular breakfast cereal. Prizes are found inside or sometimes on the cereal box. The term "cereal box prize" is sometimes used as a broader term to also include premiums that can be ordered through the mail from an advertising promotion printed on the outside of the cereal box. == Distribution == Cereal box prizes and premiums have been distributed in four ways. The first, not frequently used now, was an in-store (or point-of-sale) prize that...

@Shog9 Disappointment.

What was more exciting was when I'd randomly get tiny boxes of cereal in the mail...
Way better than perfume samples in magazines.

4:11 PM
o0

I don't think they actually do the cereal boxes in the mail thing any more, though...

They do, it's just a much narrower marketing funnel
My youngest got a box very near her third birthday, something we think enrolling her in a kiddy-gym program probably triggered.

I got one when they put out the Reeses Puffs... they were kinda gross.

They still are.

Saves me from trying them again. Cheers!

4:14 PM
One needs to work hard to ruin choco-peanutbutter things :(

They're good in a crust, just not as a cereal.

course I've not had cereal in a bit ;p

Like a graham cracker crust?

Yep

Huh... sounds like I should try making an ice box peanut butter chocolate pie sometime soom.

4:15 PM
hm, I need to have dinner once the current batch of work is done :(

@Catija A little sweet for that, but ramekin sized tarts were pretty good. A whole 'slice' would be kinda rich, I think.

Fruit tarts? Or some sort of cream?

@Catija Banoffee pie-ish sort of thing

4:52 PM
So tim
Do you still have that broken mercury thermometer?

I remember that story. I am just confused over why it came up ;)

I read it again today due to a link

Tim tweeted about it last week sometime, I think?

4:56 PM
Yvette linked to a post that linked to it

I have a déjà-vu about this bias question on MSO.

5:31 PM
@SomewhatMemorableName well, your comment worked! Well done. I've casted a re-open vote to put it proper in the queue

With current comment thread and voting, I actually have a mixed feeling about that edit... perhaps it should be posted as a fresh discussion...

I have cleaned-up my comments

5:53 PM
@rene since you asked me about it last week - meta.stackexchange.com/a/312697/164200
it's too expensive for us to implement

6:13 PM
I expected that outcome. Thanks for checking.

6:24 PM
that feeling when you wished you hadn't checked the news

@Mgetz is it because of the weather report? It's because of the weather, isn't it? It's waaay too hot :P

@Tinkeringbell Sadly no, because it's quite nice here today. I'll just say that I don't suggest checking the news

@Mgetz Too late! I just found out 2951 ungrateful brats didn't collect their starting documents for the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse! :(

And? You want to opt in?

Definitely not going to waste any days off on that.
Also, as I said, it's waaaay too hot.
Did I mention it was hot today?

6:31 PM
yes, I recall your chocolate
I feel sorry for the chocolate

checked the news ... gasp ... Croatia lost!?

What.

@SomewhatMemorableName Yesterday, yes.
It's Allons enfants de la Patrie ... now for the next 4 years. 2 stars.
@Some That's really funny. Even me as one I'd call the least soccer,- or sports in general -, affine person noticed yet. Did you enjoy a little "sleeping beauty" nap? ;-)

7:39 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ still better than the USA thing

@JohnDvorak Did they even attend anything yet? :3

I mean, the French anthem is better than the US anthem

hah
Personally? Oddly enough?

@JohnDvorak Depends, I like Jimmy Hendrix' version very much ;)

My favorite national anthem is the... polish one.

7:41 PM
I like NZ style hakas most :)

8:00 PM

@JohnDvorak 'La Marseillaise'? Sounds like a salad dressing.
..though to be fair, as a marching song, it's up with Sousa.

I've custom flagged because the post was edited

Q: Please add the ability to fold blocks of code in questions and answers

akarnokdIt would be great to have the option to fold code snippets, entire questions and answer posts on a user basis and allow defining some generic foldable regions within the question/answer editor. Non generic folding info could be stored in cookies perhaps to move the storage/processing requirement...

8:16 PM
@Matt Yes, status is . And now?

9:15 PM
@Shog9 In my most recent question, your answer just addressed the specific use case I provided, and completely overlooked the actual issue. Also, it doesn't answer the "side question".

9:27 PM
@Sonic Can't you discuss that in comments at that specific answer? What's the need to drag it here?

@πάνταῥεῖ I already commented on his answer. There has been no response, so I'm just giving him a reminder.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Hmm ...
