WOT

That's kinda cool

heh, I've used 4 GB of data so far today watching the stream & updating the SDKs.

Is bjb having a stroke? Is there someone we need to call?

That's horrible.

just calm down kid and wait for your next birthday cake

I don't even need to watch the stream. I'm just enjoying the bjb live feed.

6:25 PM
@JanDvorak WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

@Bart wait until his stream catches up with that they're doing now

Empowering parents? Like empowering white people to help the black people? This is disgusting.

should I flag that?

@JanDvorak why?

@ᔕᖺᘎᕊ seems to be
my spam flags from a few months back:(just one phone number spam)

6:26 PM
@bjb568 Wow. Just...wow.

are you saying white people helping black people is disgusting? ...

today:

I'm hoping for a Glass reboot.

@JanDvorak No, that focusing on giving privileged people more tools and privileges in the guise of trying to help those without privileges is horribly misguided and seemingly malevolent.

6:28 PM
You do know the purpose of parenting right?

So... are you saying that 4 year olds should be able to vote?

@Andy No, bjb doesn't. :P

I think voting rights should not be based at all on age.

hell, they can even run a mod

@bjb568 So they should be based on... agreeing with you?

6:29 PM
@bjb568 I totally disagree

They should be based on passing a politics/government test or similar.

@Undo "Vote bjb because bjb"

@Undo Of course not. They should be based on some "test"
see?

@bjb568 Oh gosh no
"is <current_politician> good? ( ) YES ( ) NO"
See the problem?

Of course there're going to be challenges with designing a fair test and discouraging cheating and the like, but it's much better than just looking at a birth cert.

6:30 PM
@cybermonkey lol - spammers are bored :P

Hell, even scoring a minimum on the SAT or something is better than age.

@bjb568 Give me an example question

@ᔕᖺᘎᕊ yep, wondering when the next one will come

Problem is that democracy goes out of the window then

...again forgetting about Windows *Google Cardboard

sigh chat

@Undo What is the responsibility of the president? a) to impose his ideology on the state, b) the create and approve policies to solve problems, c) to keep the devil away, d) lead the executive branch of the national government

D. Can I vote now?

Yea, sure.
You're smarter than many voting-age people I've seen.

actually... that's not a bad idea :P

Expeditions sounds cool.

These expeditions look ok tho.

I'm up to 5 GB today. :P

@bjb568 Your "fair" and another person's "fair" isn't equal. For example...a new citizen that knows minimal english probably is not well versed in political terminology (even though they can communicate effectively in every day life). Or, what about those that are in poorer school districts that have less effective teachers?

6:36 PM
@Andy If they can't understand political terminology, why should they vote? If they aren't educated in government systems, why should they vote?

because democracy

Pure democracy doesn't work.

if a society can't understand how to govern itself, it deserves whatever happens to it

We're trying, as individuals, to make the doom not come.

Some would say you're expediting it.

6:37 PM
How so?

@bjb568 Because voting doesn't require knowledge of political terms. Voting requires knowledge of issues that are important to you and those that seek to represent you. Do they agree with your views? Yup? Ok, they are probably a good candidate for you to consider. Nope? Eh. Probably should take a look at the next person

Just wait until God settles all disputes about who should rule by enthroning himself over the Earth

But are you knowledgable enough that your political views should be honored? I think that makes a good case for the test to evaluate general knowledge.

@bjb568 how do you measure that?

@JanDvorak TIL that omnipotent god isn't already enthrowning himself over the Earth

6:39 PM

@bjb568 What makes you knowledgeable enough?

@JanDvorak Highschool GPA minimum, college diploma, minimum score on SAT or ACT or something…
@Andy You just need to establish a baseline criteria.

@bjb568 there was a pending dispute - God let Satan show himself off as a ruler, because Satan claimed he could do it better. The rest of the wait are just preparations for the govermental change.

It's going to be somewhat arbitrary, sure.

@bjb568 Is access to all those tests guaranteed for all citizens?

6:41 PM
It better be…

@bjb568 But is it?
No.

how do you guarantee said access to tests?

So, why not just leave "arbitrary" at something more basic? "Are you a citizen?"

The tests would naturally cost money ∵ they have monetary value, I don't know how to feel about that tho.
I'm leaning toward gov subsidies

Guaranteed access to tests that will exclude a substantial part of the population from the democratic process. Yippee!!

6:42 PM
*though

@bjb568 A college degree is more than "money"...it's time and lots of it

@bjb568 indeed - you to spend money to get ... what, exactly? Can you convince the tax payers it's a good idea?

@Louis wait what?
@JanDvorak It's our current socioeconomic system.

@Louis wait what?

@Andy Yes, it was an or list, not an and list.

6:44 PM
@bjb568 Right, and one of your examples was college
Another was high school. Again. Time and Money

Has bjb become sane today? He is having a conversation o_O

@Andy Highschool is a very minimal necessity for being an informed and knowledgeable citizen.

Uni did contract grammarfailitis, though

does Data Explorer have any knowledge of the chats?

no

6:45 PM
:(

I'm not going to trust highschool dropouts to vote given all the stupidskewls, it isn't that hard to graduate with a decent GPA.

@bjb568 I disagree with you. There are plenty of people without a high school diploma that are knowledgeable.

Really?

@bjb568 Says someone going to a private school

how do you know they dropped out due to the lack of their knowledge?

6:45 PM
who gets this? :)

@Andy and plenty with them that are utter idiots

@Andy I'm not.
@JanDvorak Causality backward

@Bart That's not limited to high school drop outs though

It's still better than just an age tho.
It just has to be better, not flawless.

@bjb568 then you're judging people by how they were raised.

6:46 PM
*though

It's a hard problem, you're not going to get flawless.

no hardware :(

@SmokeDetector delete

@JanDvorak I'm judging how much they know by wether or not they dropped out of the knowledge-stuffer place?

@bjb568 How do you prevent the nonvoting class (because that's what you create) from spiraling downward generation after generation?

6:47 PM
Why would they?

what if they dropped out because they were a cute girl and their gym teacher was a pervert?

They can't find another school?

The last thing you need is an even larger group of people who feel they have no influence and are not represented by anyone.

@bjb568 If they can't vote, they can't get representation for issues that matter to them.

6:48 PM

They couldn't go the police and get him arrested?

@hichris123 I route all my traffic via an OpenVPN server on my VPS. Moved server provider yesterday.

@bjb568 Who? Their representative? They don't have one.

also, whenever you mute someone, they're going to grab the nearest pitchfork and march in front of the town hall

@JanDvorak Seems tame. Needs more burning and looting.

6:49 PM
@Andy They also can't corrupt other issues.
@Andy Police applies to everybody…

mute anyone who can't spell the entire word "please" in a question ;)

Just wait until they toss you out of your window. Happened twice here already

@bjb568 What issues? You mean ones like free schooling so they can get knowledge and vote?

@rlemon, I just wanted to know a bit more about those flags you talked to us about. Do you know when the flags were cast? Was it just before you entered the room?

@rlemon yes plz

6:50 PM
@gunr2171 few seconds before, yes

@Andy Why do you think that these people are making a significant positive contribution now?

@rlemon if they get two strikes, I'm all for

@Bart ;) I was specific about "questions"

@rlemon yes plox?

ok, thanks. So assuming it wasn't someone from the transcripts then I have a good idea who it was

6:51 PM
@JanDvorak like plz plz then ban?

@hichris123 my own transfer:

@gunr2171 np, good luck

Boom. Can't be arrested

The Defenestrations of Prague (Czech: Pražská defenestrace, German: Prager Fenstersturz) were two incidents in the history of Bohemia; there have been more, see below. The first occurred in 1419 and the second in 1618, although the term "Defenestration of Prague" more commonly refers to the later incident. Both helped to trigger prolonged conflict within Bohemia and beyond. Defenestration is the act of throwing someone or something out of a window. == First Defenestration of Prague == The First Defenestration of Prague involved the killing of seven members of the city council by a crowd of radical...

@bjb568 Article I, Section 6, Clause 1
That's it folks. @bjb568 has failed his test and can't vote
We can go home

I didn't say I needed or wanted to vote now.
Oh wait, yeah, I parsed it wrong.

@bjb568 But, you failed a basic test about the Constitution of the United States. It doesn't matter if you need or want to vote. You can't. You failed a test on something you should have learned in High School

@Andy ... I'm already home? Where do I go?

@Andy I haven't even learned it yet, it's next year. That's not a bad thing.

6:54 PM
@Bart Leave and come back
@bjb568 Ah. So your knowledge is age based then?

No, I just haven't taken US gov yet.

@bjb568 Why not?

/me typing to fast
@Andy ∵ I'm taking it next year

@bjb568 Why didn't you take it this year?

∵ this year is "modern" "world" history…

6:57 PM
(disclaimer: not mine)

@bjb568 So your curriculum is based on your age?

@Andy no

Then what makes this year world history?

@bjb568 would be a great salesman.

@Andy It's just a common sequence.

6:58 PM
@bjb568 Defined by...
year in school?

@bjb568 By grade. What determines your grade? Age.

mmm...? 4 out 8 messages in the star board are about bjb... what happened while I wasn't here!?

@hichris123 Not entirely accurate.

For 99%, yes.

@bjb568 what did the dog do to you???

6:59 PM
@hichris123 f(Age, grades) :)

@hichris123 Shoo...I'm trying to get him to say it

I could take it out of order if I like, and I'd elaborate on age but I won't for personal reasons.
@JanDvorak :p

… how?

I think BJB has disqualified himself from talking here :-D

so no young people, no HS dropouts, no ??
must produce degree at the door or gtfo?

How did you get "no young people" from that?

idk, you were all jammering on about age

too young for a diploma

7:10 PM
too young to enter the tavern...

@Braiam so 21+

@JanDvorak There's no minimum age for a diploma first of all, but diploma is an "or" condition anyway.

in StackOverflows country it is 21

Meritocracy (merit, from Latin mereō "earn" and -cracy, from Ancient Greek κράτος kratos "strength, power") is a political philosophy which holds that power should be vested in individuals almost exclusively according to merit. Your idea is meritocracy-through-proxy

Are we still talking about this?

Apologies

Government should be ruled by people who specialize in governance. Indirect democracy is superior to direct democracy, even if voting is based on a merit system.
