Q: Health SE Disclaimer

michaelpriNear the beginning of Health SE's private beta, a discussion about whether or not we should have a disclaimer came up. There were people voting that we should have a disclaimer (+10/-2) and people for the other side, that we don't need one (+9/-0). Though this decision has not been officially m...

@Yes Hey! That's my post!

user259867
2:18 AM
@michaelpri Yeah, I wondered how this will be done technically. Is there a precedent among SE sites?

user259867
The closest thing I know of are post notices, but those are added per-post.

We're uh... not really sure yet. We were given permission by Shog and told to make a meta post. We hope it will go on each page somewhere

user259867
Maybe they'll create a custom theme for the site, with disclaimer as its logo...

user259867
There is also a "system message" thing, like the one on every new site:

user259867
> got a question about the site itself? meta.law is the place to talk about things like what questions are appropriate, what tags we should use, etc.

2:21 AM
Oh yeah, we still have that problem. Feel free to vote for a logo here:meta.health.stackexchange.com/q/130/26

user259867
I like the cross the most, I think. Maybe SE can use a different background color, something that works with red. They did it for Craft CMS

@Yes I also like it, and it's the most visible. I kinda wish it had been posted earlier.

It seems to lack the "some of us aren't actually trained doctors" part that I've seen in other disclaimers. Is this intentional? — bjb568 8 secs ago

@bjb568: Though there are some trained medical professionals here on Health SE, even they can't provide perfectly reliable answers when they don't have enough details. Better than a layperson's answer? Probably, but it still can't be completely trusted. — michaelpri ♦ 4 mins ago

Check out Patents for an example of how this could be implemented, @yes

@Shog9 I tested it out using the system message box and it doesn't look too bad

2:52 AM
The Helpful Links in the sidebar? I don't see anything else special about Patents.

user259867
I wish every site had a Helpful Link "search this site with Google".

System message area is for system messages; "this site will be unavailable for 30 minutes/forever" that sorta thing.
Helpful links, @yes

@Shog9 Has that happened before?

What? Sites closed? Yes.

2:58 AM
@Shog9 And/or "Steve Jobs died".
... or should I not bring that up? :P

woah, @Shog's back now, too?

2

Yes, they're also used whenever Steve Jobs dies.
If Health.se kills Steve, they can use a sys msg to announce it.

System message also shouldn't be permanent because it breaks the layout of the mobile theme, not that anyone cares.

@JonasCz you did see this MSO post: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/295302/…

Isn't it very much middle in the night for the kitteh?

7:59 AM
What is your opinion on edits like this which are all very similar ? I'd regard them as too minor, and filling up the edits queue is also bad. Was commenting and mod flag the correct thing to do ? That the editing has not stopped despite the meta post (where the consensus seems to be that these edits are mostly not useful) and mod flag seems strange to me.

I rejected the ones that ONLY add the tag

Thats most of them.

If other improvements where made I left it for the robo-reviewers

Thats most of them.
All of them really.

Kill the +2 for approved edits when under 2k and we should finally get rid of this.

8:03 AM
How did my chat message get posted twice !?

@rene Its 4am for BJB

@SPArchaeologist Then we will no longer have any edit suggestions, and most of them are useful (most of the time).

@JonasCz I had some delay as well, maybe the servers need to wake-up?

Maybe one of the mods need to ban his ass

I'm not going to get involved much in an excel/vba/excel+vba war. It really depends who you are talking to what the correct way of tagging is, see the MSO posts for background.

8:11 AM
How about... reduce gained rep from +2 to +1 when the user has been review banned once, then remove it altogether if banned for the second time?
(but then there's no way to gain "easy" rep... but it's their mistake in the first place)

@AndrewT. what about not giving one that has been banned once the possibility to be banned a second time?

How about getting +5 if you reject an suggested-edit from the queue?

that might work too

@rene then you get robo-rejecters.

still better than robo-approvers

8:14 AM
We make it temporary, until the accept/reject rates are in some balance

(I just noticed I wrote "review banned" when it should be "suggest edit banned")

@rene ... I would avoid that link without even opening it. To put it simple, all is based on a theory that some references in FIM would claim that the answer to the universe, the life and everything is actually "Friendship". So since Friendship -> Twilight and Friendship->42 then Twilight -> 42

Ok, that explains a little bit of a world still unknown to me ;)

meta jurisprudence? Above post seem to indicate consensus to at least remove immature behavior such as ""bad words in code examples" unless it is needed for the sample (again, profanity filters questions come to mind)

@JanDvorak Because shit should trigger smokey to report. It did correctly that

It should trigger on shit but "ignore" this particular post
not a fp

false positive = not offensive marked as offensive. The definition does not include how to train bayesian filter

@InfiniteRecursion that is what I meant to say

9:50 AM
not that we have any bayesian filter anyways
it is normal for a filter to have false positives as well as false negatives. It's not useful to deny that. One does not simply remove a filter because it has a false negative every once in a while
If it has only false positives, it should be removed, but by judging the filter prematurely you deny us of the statistics
Smokey does not flip out when he gets a declined flag warning from us.

> if the second account allows you to do something on the site that your normal account would be prevented from doing, it is abuse.

I leave for a moment to answer a comment only to find @JanDvorak rattled on...
Point taken

@InfiniteRecursion that was the whole point for asking Inf. I had hoped that when the workaround is to help the system, there were some exception to standard rules, but doesn't seem so. As I said, good to know. Not that I actually need that since I am to few active to use all the daily flags.
