Moderators can change their display names as often as they want (for whatever reason), and sync them to all sites >:D

Yeah, user name history is unavailable. All the sede tables that have a display name + user id column only store the display name for deleted users.

What you could do is manually check out nomination comments, if any users there happened to @ the person prior to the change, the old display name would remain.
