@Sue It's attached to meta.SE, so you will not see it on the list of SE rooms. The three chat servers: SE, SO, and meta.SE, work independently.

I sense their desperation.

@FamousBlueRaincoat perhaps we should link them to the repository of the bots. Just to give them a head start.

Sam
@Bart Yep, it's sure to stop any bot (and probably most newbie coders).

user259867
By the way, the slug part of the URL omits that garbage they throw in. I'll consider using that for parsing too, with different regexes.
E.g., the above becomes `1-123-345-5678-gmail-tech-support-gmail-tech-su`
... except the title is cut off :(

Ooh, how about "What color is this?" with it styled by CSS?
Bots can't figure that out, can they?

11:35 PM
I'm finishing up that code…

Ugh, math.

Heh, sublime doesn't recognize "|=" as an assignment operator.

@bjb568 Which language uses that?

JS

@bjb568 That's worse than a CAPTCHA.

11:39 PM
… how?

... you know how easy it is for a bot to do that?

It's inserted via CSS.
It's designed to deter bots that go sweeping across many sites looking for common patterns and easy vulnerabilities. Not for targeted bots.

And not to mention the fact that you're reinventing the wheel.

Great!

No, that's stupid.
Especially so with security.

11:42 PM
@bjb568 Phantom.js can go thru JS floodwalls and CSS content matchers.

@hichris123 That's my style!

So using CSS to insert your security question, even if dynamic, does no good or security.

You just called yourself stupid...

A more practical way is to generate a dynamic pic, really.

@Unihedro ... which is what?
A CAPTCHA!

11:43 PM
Duh.
:P
lichess has amazing captcha.

@Unihedro Most bots don't read CSS.

@bjb568 I am sorry to reject your assumption.
Bots can go pretty far than you expect.

Whatevs.
I'm blocking the 99%, not the 1%. It doesn't matter what they can do.

Even the new google click with user statistics and optimization hashing isn't good enough, really.

@bjb568 laughs no, not really

11:46 PM
Ok, fine, if you're such an expert, why don't you link to a bot study?
To see what teh average bot is.

This is from my experience in making bots.
I've made a bot with Phantom.js.
Not for bad stuff, obviously, just to fetch data, but still.

I do however really like lichess's captcha, which matches with the theme. You can learn from them and build some captcha that's related to your site theme or audience:
That is, if you really bother reinventing the wheel, you will look less stupid.

Nobody complained this much at my markdown parser…

Hey, a captcha unique to this site that the site author handcrafted it! It's a crappy check, but it looks cool.
@bjb568 Well, it's a non-captcha…

It blocks something. That something is what I don't want, so it's useful. It doesn't really block something I do want, so it's not that bad.

11:50 PM
That something is 2% of what you do not want, which are mediocre captcha overriders who can't even code their bot with a decent framework but still insist on doing it all from scratch yet have no skill set to-
Never mind.

ok

Now that I think about it, it isn't that bad really.
If they do use a bot and it solves the capcha on their own, they've deserved participating on DevDoodle.
shrugs

And if they do post spam, they get review queues!

Access to review queues or added to review queues?

… which do you think?

11:57 PM
I cannot figure out based on the context. It's ambiguous with no enclosing type signature.
