Users should have to successfully take a quiz to gain rep-based privileges. e.g., pass 80% of 20 audits. Especially 2k no-approval edits.

12:15 PM
There are a lot of things I wish users did.
I don't think people realise just how overflowing SE - and particularly SO - would be if we allowed anything and everything. There are almost more questions on SO than there are inhabitants in my country, and that's after pruning. Of questions. Not people.

Maybe it's people that need to be pruned...

Am I being too harsh again? I don't know. It's hard to tell with how the community ebbs and flows in this kind of question.

Argh, the network issues borked Smokey.

Hello

12:28 PM
What would be the most effective and painless way to get banned for x hours from the chat room?

Ask a mod

@Jefffrey ... why?

@Jefffrey It depends on what x is

Painless for whom?

@Doorknob I'm being a jerk today and I don't know why. Until I figure it out it's better for me to live in isolation.
Let's say 24 hours.
From chat.so.

12:30 PM
ummm

@Jefffrey Wouldn't it be easier to just close your chat tab and not reopen it for the rest of the day?

No, actually

parental filter?

@Jefffrey Just hit ctrl+w in any chatroom and you're banned...

lol

12:31 PM

laugh out loud zebras

So, where can I find mods for this?

when added zebras ?
here only. @Jefffrey

I thought I would find them here.

SO mods typically don't chat in here too often.

12:32 PM
@Jefffrey Try poking some of the devs, like @balpha

may be busy with other works wait for the reply

@SilentKiller I haven't asked it.

I am not responsible for what happens when you do that though, and it may result in you being struck in thunder

Just out of curiosity, how long are the bans that room owners can give you?

lol ^ n

12:33 PM
1 minute, 30 and then...?

First time 1 min, then 30 min, then 24 hour + permanent invite and creation ban

@Jefffrey Room owners can't suspend (unless something changed recently).

then 1 year

@Doorknob they can kickban though

Ah, right.

12:34 PM
@Doorknob kickban for three times leads to permanent bans that can only be lifted by mods and temp suspensions.

oh wow

or you can post an offensive pic and attract lots of flags and therefore automatically get suspended, but that's only 30 mins

too many ways to get ban

@Unihedro they would stack though, no?
if I were to post multiple messages

@Unihedro u want flags. ? xD

12:37 PM
so what do you want @Jefffrey, just be blocked from chatting for 24 hours on chat.so?

@balpha Yeah, that would be awesome. Thanks.
Thank you very much.
Good bye folks.

I have scissors.

We are looking into network issues now, stand by.
We have recovered from read-only mode, but are still tracking down an internal network issue causing errors for some users.
We will be entering a brief maintenance mode to kick all services back online shortly - ETA 5-15 minutes, downtime will be about a minute.
