I'll have to do a presentation on a math dude, who should I choose? I'm thinking Fermat.

@bjb568 Whoever has the most rep on math.se. :p

Fermat doesn't have 313k on math.se ;)

Just one problem tho… not much info.

@bjb568 MacTutor's archive is a good source of biographies of mathematicians, with references. You can browse by historical period. Fermat is too common a choice.

user259867
@bjb568 Abel would be a good choice. Not as well known as Fermat, but had deeper impact on mathematics despite having died at 26. One of theorems can be (kind of) explained: although there is quadratic formula for solving x^2+bx+c=0, and some (more complicated ones) for x^3+bx+c=0 and x^4+bx+c=0, there is nothing like that for the equation x^5+bx+c=0.

@FamousBlueRaincoat Who says it was p.m. when I went to bed last night?

user259867
@hichris123 Your last message from yesterday was at 5:00 UTC, exactly the pm/am border. My observation was about general pattern, not a particular night. You don't stay up long enough to harvest most of the spam on Drupal.

ah, yup. But I don't go to bed super early either. ;)
Yeah, I only get one or two mSE/Drupal pieces of spam before I go to bed usually.

10:08 PM
What time UTC does drupal spam usually show up?

5:00-ish. ;)

ah. late for me :/

That's 11:00 PM here, so I usually only get a few Drupal spam posts before going to sleep.

user259867
You know two sleep patterns described as larks and owls... To kill Drupal spam from the U.S., one has to be an owl.

spammers do that on purpose

@FamousBlueRaincoat People have conversations here?! Eeeek!

yay rose answer for valentines day

A: My long stemmed rose is growing new leaves

J. MusserBamboo's answer is good. I agree with everything stated there, just wanted to add the method I used when I did this years ago. I recut the cut ends (flat, and clean), but then topped the stems off (they were really long, so removed about half), leaving them at 9-10 inches. I cut about 1/4" above...

Sue
I'm annoyEd with me!
Can you tell my computer's misbehaving?

o noes, what happened?

Sue
I tried to write a nice comment for a new user on a question. I kept hitting post before it was ready, so I did it four times and now I'm not sure I was nice enough!

@Sue lol. On GL?

Sue
11:32 PM
Yup-would you rather talk about it in the Shed?

good job
@Sue Doesn't matter really, unless we start getting on someones nerves

Sue
@Frank Thanks! If I delete within two seconds does the op get informed of each comment?

@Sue I don't know. Lets find out.

Sue
Yikes.............

did you get notified?
I posted a comment, waited two seconds, and deleted.

Sue
11:36 PM
Nope, does that mean I'm safe?

@Sue I think so. I just did one for 5 seconds, just to make sure

Sue
A red notification flashed on and off but there was no new comment!
Yay! All I need is to mess up trying to help a brand new user!

@Sue That's what I thought would happen.
good.

Sue
Thanks. Actually, the reason I'm most mad is that I tried to link him to the help center but the url came up so I did it wrong, and I should really know how to do that!
Actually, my favorite welcome message so far is one I saw earlier today by you, but I don't think I saved the question.

@Sue I don't recall commenting...

Sue
11:43 PM
I'm not sure when it was. It was a good combination of educating and welcoming.

you mean this?

Sue
I hung around in here for a long time yesterday late afternoon. You guys were having interesting talks and doing cool stuff.

Not exactly a welcome message, but,...

Sue
@Frank I'll check.

@Sue Was I here yesterday afternoon?

Sue
11:45 PM
Oh yeah, it wasn't about welcoming, it was about helping people not write a dup.

I may have still been driving back

Sue
Which is really important, especially since we haven't solved your question about the dup message. Actually, I think it was last night that I was lurking...
Are you an hour earlier than me?

@Sue I'm in EST.
It's 6:48 pm here.

Sue
That's what I thought.

@Sue What time's it where ur at?
hour later?

Sue

Nope, same.

Ok.

And 5 hours earlier than tux I think.
I meant utc!
