@user2284570 It would be nice to get rid of the [dataexplorer] tag, since SEDE posts usually should be asked on mSE.

@Jamal Don't hesitate to do this. A flag tell something doesn't look right and require someone to look at it. This is not asking to take an action but that you are rising a concern.

True. Maybe I'm a little concerned about getting it declined, but that really isn't a problem for me, given my flagging history.

@hichris123 Yes but as a moderator, @0x7fffffff can migrate/close all those questions at a single time. (He didn't do it even for other questions). But I am sure this an error in the code. If you would remove data explorer this question is only SQL related and unlike Stack Overflow, this is very unlikely to find some who has knowledge in SQL.

@user2284570 uh no.
Mods don't have those kind of bulk tools.

Well we can't migrate questions older than 60 days at all, so a lot of those can't be migrated.

12:16 AM
(and that)

@animuson Oh yes... I forgot about the 60 days period... but they can still be closed... and have you really no account on Data Explorer? (since it look you used a browser cookie).

I do, but it logs you out so frequently and I never feel like logging back in.

@animuson So you prefer filling captchas. That's strange...

shrugs I don't really find them that annoying.
At least they're not the super-hard unreadable ones.

@animuson Yeah... but this also exclude unprotected questions. :(

12:24 AM
You would have to make the query much more complicated in order to figure out whether or not it is currently protected.
It would involve finding both the most recent protection event and most recent unprotection event, and seeing if the protection event is after it, or if the unprotection event is null.

@animuson That's also why I asked it on Stack Overflow.

Actually, icktoofay added a comment which uses a case to sum protections as +1 and unprotections as -1, then checks if it's 0.

Ok I don't really understand @icktoofay comment because of the formatting but I don't really mind if I can't finally handle unprotection. because unprotecting a question with >4 answers >20k Views and Score>150 look very hypothetical.
But thanks for your help.

It is probably very rare, which is why I didn't even worry about it.

@animuson Yeah, it will be more useful at putting loads on the server and slow down the query than actually show unprotected questions.
@animuson Oh : this look more possible : The question is protected at the beginning for some reason and unprotected : then it grow in answer, reps and view and require protection again.

12:42 AM
Well the current query will exclude any question which is protected, whether it's had an unprotection in between or not.

This answer is wrong. The whole point of my question is that checkout-index doesn't handle deletions at all. (It can't, because the index doesn't represent deletions. git status only sees them because it can diff against HEAD.) Is this a bot account? — Jack O'Connor 2 hours ago

Q: Newbie "forgiveness"

Hot Licks(To put it in the form of a question) Doesn't SO need some sort of "newbie forgiveness"? I see many cases where a newbie asks a very poorly constructed question and instantly gets downvoted and closed. Not that this shouldn't occur, but it means that any points the newbie had are stripped away...

@bjb568 - A question can go from open to closed in 5 minutes easy. And pretty much any question can be closed -- it only takes a few people taking offense to it -- doesn't require a valid reason. (Apparently it's not uncommon for folks to go to a chat room and get their buddies to kill some question they dislike, for whatever reason.) — Hot Licks 4 mins ago

@ShadowWizard shouldiblamecaching.com :/

Why don't you guys just cache a bit more frequently? Like, fresh whenever someone does something ...

Yeah - lock/closing/reopening and such should probably invalidate the cache.
But... not sure if that's easy to do, at the caching layer it happens.

lame attempt at cache-invalidating feature request completely missed ;)
But hey, if you got a decent idea from it, then that is of course what I meant. :p

@Bart does that count as a cache-miss?

1:53 PM
heh, that's the definition I'll use from now on.

@Oded I disagree on this one. It's not caching, it's just that the code handling the AJAX response "forgets" to re-populate the close banner.

Nope, that an F5 reloading a cached version of the page, from before it was closed/locked.

Does editing your own answer in a second tab not cause a "this post has been edited, click here to reload" message in the first tab?
I was trying to test if reloading an answer causes all answers and the question to reload or just the one answer.
Cause it's odd that reloading an answer modifies the question's HTML

not sure I follow. The bug report is:
1. User view a closed question, with banners and all in place.
2. Edit is made to the question or an answer.
3. User click the message "this post was edited"
4. Changes to the post are loaded, but close banner disappears.
No F5 here.

Sorry, no F5, right. But the output cache is still in effect. The AJAX call reloads the whole post, from cache.

2:00 PM
@Oded I see. Can't it be changed so that a quick check is performed to see the live state of the question, after reloading from cache?

Possibly. But easy/quick it ain't :/
And given the 1 minute cache... well... priorities

@Oded bummer. Well, guess that bug will stay open for 6-8 years then. ):
(or rejected by a merciful dev at some point, explaining why it's not worth the time to fix ;))

@Oded any idea about what I said above?

@ShadowWizard I hope not. That would prevent reopening in the not too distant future

We do try to get through them... But bug duty is always secondary to other work for us, so the queue tends to grow over time, rather than shrink.
@Stijn - let me parse that first.

2:03 PM
Can we have a contest for the most beautiful cache-miss?

@Oded yeah, cleaning 2-3 years old bugs kind of proves this.

@ShadowWizard easy way to shrink the queue ;)
Well. More of a heap than a queue. In several ways.

I want to test that bug with old closed question to see if it's really cache.

@Oded each bug has two bugs pointing at it?

@JanDvorak more of an access pattern observation

2:09 PM
@Oded sorry, no cache after all. I just edited this question while having it open in other browser (just to be sure). After clicking "this post was edited" the title kept the "[closed]" but the close banner disappeared.
So the AJAX is not reloading the state.
If you want to reproduce let me know, surely there are more old closed questions with something to edit. :)

@Stijn I tend to test such things with different browsers, to avoid session sharing
@Stijn IIRC, that causes a full page reload
@ShadowWizard if you can post a full repro on the question, that would be appreciated. I might not get to it any time soon (end of day, and someone else will be on bug duty most probably)

Your cats can have multiple accounts and vote, edit, post, etc. as long as the accounts don't vote for each other or give bounties to each other.
Of course they also shouldn't vote on the same stuff. That would be somewhat abusive, too.
