@FinalContest where?
why are the review queues always slower on the weekend? have to do with the data dump?

@user0000000: stackoverflow.

yea SO

go to a party, not review!

how does one get invited to a party?

you do not need to; just make one :)

@nicael just curious, what's your motive in all of this?

lol
"put on hold as unclear what you're asking"

The last one is even better:
> Duplicate of [the other offensive post]

Users there got no idea how to use Stack Exchange system, too bad
Should we tell them there is flagging system?

I'll have to keep an eye on China
3

@JanDvorak yeah, good luck with that! ;)

7:05 AM
(the SE site)

The site also got only three moderators (one isn't active for over a month so not counting him) and all appear to be in same time zone which is far away from China.
All in all, that's a spammer/troll jackpot site!

I thought bitcoin.se was?

@JanDvorak oh, not familiar with it. If it got users oblivious to the option to flag and no active moderators then yes, it also is.

speaking of bitcoin, the last two questions seem to be spam

lol
How the managed to dodge your bot?

7:09 AM
the chinese guy, you mean?
I'll investigate
not sure how to catch this. He's not using any swearwords.

@JanDvorak I saw some in the body, meant bitcoin spam (you said last two are spam)

I should have caught at least one of these. Maybe it just didn't make it to the websocket?
should I start listening to all per-site front-page sockets?

@JanDvorak yes, if you listen only to the real time socket of SE it ought to miss some.

Why so?

With so many sites, sometimes two or more questions can be submitted in the exact same time, so I guess in such case only the first goes through to the real time updates
Nick or Geoff can confirm or disprove it though :)

7:22 AM
@ShadowWizard w0t? Why would one get dropped?
Is there a nice way to find out on how many sites I have the Marshall badge?

@JanDvorak just a feeling
@JanDvorak nope, pretty sure we don't have any way for cross site stats beyond what's exposed in the network profile

@ShadowWizard Not sure how I could test this. Sounds plausible, though. Thanks.

@JanDvorak my pleasure?

Hmm... what happens if two questions happen to be posted at the exact same time on the same site? Do they get dropped from the per-site sockets?

@JanDvorak my gut feeling is yes, but of course can't know for sure

7:29 AM
is there a nice automated way to get the site ID from the site API name? I don't want to grep the per-page javascript.
Hmm... I guess I could grep the per-page javascript

[ SmokeDetector ] Bad keyword detected: RuNIcHa@!BaLaJi*91-9672517737black magic specialist baba on english.stackexchange.com

@JanDvorak yeah, sounds like the safest way

Another option would be to store these things manually and then notify for unknown sites
(and also update the "how do the sockets work" meta question)
"Look for "..." in the second inline script in the head of the page you download" - does that sound reliable?
but first: don't remember the known-good questions, because you don't want to consume 300MiB of memory

@JanDvorak sounds reliable but they might change the wording without notice

They could reorder the scripts, but I don't expect the method name to change anytime soon. They might add a few spaces, but if they do, I can fix my regex easily.
by "wording", do you mean my pseudocode?
huh... is he telling us what sites he will never spam?
is anyone else using my script?

@JanDvorak lol, more likely testing the spam filters

does he expect to trick me? If so, he isn't trying very hard.

@JanDvorak think he's trying to trick the auto filters, Tim Post mentioned their existence in the past

to him?

@JanDvorak no, it was after a major baba spam so Tim posted here in the Tavern

> member for 5 years, 4 months

I've just looked at the per-site websocket payload. WTH IS THAT???
It has exactly 5 fields: id, body, tags, siteid, fetch. Guess what body is?

@JanDvorak empty?

nope

8:29 AM
@JanDvorak showing only short excerpt?

nope

@JanDvorak title?!

@JanDvorak It returns "404 Not Found"?

nope and nope

nope to whom?

You can't use me
You can't use me
You can't use me
You can't use me
You can't use me
You can't use me
You can't use me
....
?

@ShadowWizard not that. It's the exact HTML that will get cut'n'pasted into the front page.
Because server-side templating FTW and who cares about bandwidth?

@JanDvorak think Nick cares :)

The best part is that it uses the same websocket endpoint (\d+-questions-active) as the realtime SE tab, but the format is vastly different

8:39 AM
I appreciate your effort, though :-)

8:51 AM
@ProgramFOX your bot is also detecting spam? ;)

@ShadowWizard That's not a bot :)

@ProgramFOX so you are a bot! :P

humans are but robots made out of carbon compounds
self-repairing

@JanDvorak and some magic soup making the whole thing work ;)

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Not being able to physically see the creator makes the feeling of magic even stronger.

8:55 AM
@JanDvorak I see my creators once a week or so. ;)

ugh, the title of this question made it seem worth reading meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/261182/…
is this right? it says the last update was 6 hours ago? data.stackexchange.com/help
did they change from early monday to sunday?

Do I read correctly you are saying "my question isn't a duplicate of that question because my question isn't a question"? — Jan Dvorak 1 min ago

10:15 AM
lol didn't notice you're the one posting it

lol, i figured that's why you deleted it : )

Anyway maybe they have something scheduled for Monday so wanted to make sure SEDE is updated
(e.g. another server move tomorrow, so won't be able to update)

i see
i found this post before posting though, which says that it's updated every sunday meta.stackexchange.com/questions/183774/… , so i thought maybe it is every sunday?
but that post is from a year ago

@user0000000 maybe it's not a set day, one time Sunday and one time Monday... can't really know. :(

maybe it takes 24 hours to update fully? lol

11:00 AM
Good afternoon!

Good morning!

@user0000000 link-only at best

The question seems like garbage.

Could be a fine flag reason: Seems garbage

11:06 AM

Added with sound effects of stuff thrown in dustbins?

i checked that user's answers, and it seems he has 7 just like that
flagging for mod -other

@ShadowWizard shouldn't the please help me also be edited out?
@user0000000 At least he is consistent...

@user0000000 that's spam, it's his own project and cost money

11:35 AM
@user0000000 better than using <kbd></kbd> or inline code for it, that's for sure :)

OK, WTF? The per-site socket contains no clue whatsoever about the site API name. The only clue it has is the site ID. Do I have to hold a reverse map?

@JanDvorak more like treasure map ;)

:-D

@nicael wonder how I missed that! good reading. :D

any idea how the site IDs are generated?

@JanDvorak knowing the devs a bit, I would take a wild guess and say.... random.

let me dump them into a spread sheet...
hmm... more than half of the sites I've found so far are clustered just above 100

@nicael they still haven't suspended you :p lol

12:00 PM
@JanDvorak isn't that this list meta.stackexchange.com/a/222845/158100?

the maximum so far is 542
@rene yep, except I'm running my own script to get the IDs
the socket server doesn't seem to have a problem feeding me from tens of endpoints at once, it seems

@user0000000 despite your best effort ))) I told Nick Craver that I was surprised ))
... and mhlester's flags ;-)

Hmm.... my master can't post. Maybe I can?

@nicael oh, i didn't personally try to get you suspended, there was already enough people after you : ) , would really like to see you find another loophole though

Trying again to post....
@user0000000 he did find

12:07 PM
he found another one already?

@user0000000 meta.stackexchange.com/questions/234279/… And further comments :D
Nick Craver wished me good luck ))

Good Night!

@user0000000 Er.. Good morning...

That's the association I got when reading that comment from Nick ;P
Is 3:15 PM morning, noon or something else?

@ShadowWizard 4:15 PM
And PM isn't supposed to be "morning, noon or something else"? ;-)

12:18 PM
well, the "M" does stand for "morning" afaik

Well, the "P" stands for "post-", which is latin for "after"
(and "M" stands for "meridiam" = "midday")

Why did I just get a per-site websocket response with an empty body?

@PeterJ I joined Chinese.SE recently specifically to flag spam :-)

I flag these as offensive

12:31 PM
@nicael, looking at how they're handling some of them I suspect most of the flags are coming from here lol

@PeterJ finally they learned to flag out there, it's gone
@JanDvorak caching? ;)

...

@ShadowWizard, yeah I guess it might be one of their first 'attacks'. I noticed a few of the people who used VTC instead weren't all that active elsewhere on SE.

But this is still alive!

@nicael I've already flagged that
it's off the front page, though

12:37 PM
@Jan Spammer is very clever to post that often: he knows that I will run out of flags soon :D
(I mean, reach daily flags cap)

@JanDvorak Gone

Interesting, 4th post from same user number after 3 offensive deletions. I thought the block was after 3?

What made you think so?

Checked my flag history - all the same user number at the start and appeared after last ones had been deleted

12:52 PM
I mean, why do you think the limit is 3?

@PeterJ there is no auto account deletion

Not sure now you mention it - just thought I'd seen it always come in groups of 3 from one account in the past before they created a new one.

And probably no question ban on small sites

The no question ban on smaller sites is probably it. A bit odd though, you'd think they could do with it most?

@ShadowWizard that would be surprising

12:53 PM
That troll can keep posting his stuff for long long time, unless a moderator will nuke the account

\o

at which point they'll create a sock
o/

@JanDvorak yup

@nicael boom

@Braiam finally, two whole days too late

12:55 PM
Click "flag" -> select "it is spam" -> click "flag question" -> ... -> boom? — Braiam 25 secs ago

My offensive flag for that question was marked helpful this morning, but the question was not removed.

@Braiam I'd say "offensive", not "spam"

@JanDvorak I would say they're trying to promote something, no?

It seems they're just ranting about one of the mods

@Braiam no
it's pure useless offensive rant against specific user in the site

12:58 PM
@JanDvorak trolling?
oh

Quite like the troll who came to Meta to insult Tim (Post) a while ago

meh, he seems to be spam-ming questions
wow, <1 min

@ProgramFOX that gone fast

At least 5 questions from same user, all super downvotes, all deleted yet he keeps posting. Proof there is no post ban.
And no moderators in there.

1:02 PM
we need the spam flag!

seems like a mod has just woken up

@JanDvorak no, mod would have nuked the account.

hmm...

More likely it's Stan himself and five of us here.

1:03 PM
DAMN, 2 flags left.

btw, one mod last seen may 26?

Almost run out of them

@Braiam yup, he's gone.

time to learn chinnese... perhaps?

So.... SE got unmoderated site :(

1:06 PM
Wait, latest seen 20h ago and even didn't noticed any spam?

Is there any specific meta site for India as like China ??

@nicael from quick look on all four moderators, none was active for long time. Maybe a comment once a month or so. So yeah, looks like they don't really check the site.
@TGMCians what?

should we notify MSE?

@TGMCians, that's a Chinese Language site, as far as I know there isn't an equivalent for Indian languages / culture but there are a few related proposals on Area 51.

OK

1:10 PM
@JanDvorak yup, I would choose the email path

@JanDvorak is unmanageable?

@ShadowWizard please do. I'm bad at writing emails

well, we can't expect any action before monday hit?

@JanDvorak might do when having time to think of suitable message
@Braiam leaving a site wide open for spamming/trolling in weekends is a bad idea, they need better moderators in there that's for sure.
"better" means at least one who is active more, well, often. :)

@ShadowWizard well, AU had a entire weekend without mods and we managed... granted we had people that can protect questions (me), several users that could help flagging (AU chat room + RA and the bridge)

1:17 PM
one flag remaining

I'm out of ammo, anyway need to head of soon...

Good grief. That person is persistent.

I think we would be more effective if we use the spam flag

@Braiam Why?

@Shog9 shall excuse us for misusing the flag, but this is reaching spam levels

1:19 PM
Spam and offensive flags have the same effect.

@ProgramFOX what's "spam"?
@ProgramFOX and nope

IIUC, they even stack

spam flags activates ip blocking, keyword search for prevention and more shinnies, offensives doesn't have such features

@Braiam Yes, they have the same effect. After 6 offensive flags, the post is also removed.

@ProgramFOX that's the only effect you see
there's more going on with spam flags in backend than the offensive flag

1:21 PM
Hey, have any of you cool kids played Rogue Legacy?

@Braiam oh, nice

@Braiam source?

I have one bullet left.

@Braiam it's per site and most likely this poor Chinese site got none of those yet
I have a feeling that in this specific case, the troll is going to win :(

@ShadowWizard only until our flags refill

1:24 PM
You can always delete and recreate your account if you run out of flags.

@ProgramFOX sure way to get suspended... but on the other hand, fight fire with fire :D

@ProgramFOX Heh, didn't noticed. Thought that I can't as if I left one vote.
@ShadowWizard why?

Hmm... as long as you don't abuse the extra flags you get, I don't think you would get suspended.

@ProgramFOX I won't risk that
Baba is actually a nice refresher after all that chinese guy

A: Why do we need both spam and offensive flags?

Grace NoteI'll quote myself regarding Jeff's explanation for two separate types. [...] Jeff's plan according to a blog post was that in the future posts that are highlighted as spam will be used to help construct better measures to protect against spam. How far along this has come is unknown. What we...

is one... I don't find where I saw about the shinnies

@nicael you get unfair power. The flag limit is there for a reason, and we shouldn't break the rules.

Hmm... ok, then I won't do that. I still have 4 flags, I hope that's enough.

@ShadowWizard actually the spam system is system wide according to Tim (Post) meta.askubuntu.com/a/8086/169736
@ShadowWizard the end justify the means
jk
@JanDvorak he solves your loves problems?

who still has flags on chinese?

@JanDvorak now it has a link, smells like advertisement?

1:34 PM
@JanDvorak I have, but just 3...

5 under my belt

Let me do

@JanDvorak I am 100y.o maniac, you know, don't you?

@JanDvorak and I only 12 :-(

@nicael it's offensive, not spam
