Where is everybody?

2:05 AM
I ate them
Err, I mean, uh, they're... away

Mmm… hm…

2:35 AM
@bjb568 The only one that I would of rejected would've been the third one.
The first one was a correct tag add, and the wiki didn't seem too bad.
The third was a pointless minor code spacing edit

@bjb568

3:01 AM
@user0000000 First one was too minor - the question should be closed.
@user0000000 Wiki is invalid - [tag:jsbin] and "Click here"
@user0000000 No, that's invalid. And was rolled back.

Every stupid suggested edit cloud has a silver lining of bannable reviewers... — Charles 8 hours ago

I flag a couple every day.
Yeah… and some get declined.
How is stackoverflow.com/users/399647/ninjacat not robo-reviewing? stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/5093756 stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/5093757 stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/5053651 – declined - The second edit you pointed to was valid, and I see nothing ban-worthy in the other two edits.
I see ban-worth in everything, but that's just me.

Yeah. But your perspective is biased.

:P So what do you think about the 3 reviews?

4:33 AM
@bjb568 Clearly, someone has stolen your brain, and replaced it with a squeak toy. This is not your fault. You didn't ask for that to happen. But it seriously limits your ability to think critically, to reason effectively, and to tie your shoes. So, yes - you may get some declined flags every now and then. It's okay. You're doing your best.

I was thinking about getting a dump of stack exchange posts,
turning them into a sparse bag of words representation, and labelling them with Site and/or tags,

+1 for mentioning the working within the framework. inb4, AAPtards will burn after reading this. — Vineet Menon 9 mins ago
In above comment the commentor is refereing to AAPtards, as some people who follow a certain party in India, AAP.
Are these kind of comments allowed?
or Should I flag it for something?

I have no idea what it means without context, but flagging is always good.

@DroidDev Flag it as rude or offensive

done, I hope the moderator reviewing those flags would be able to understand the meaning of AAPtards

6:50 AM
I don't. And I don't want to.

@bjb568 it's just short for AAP retards.
I'm sure mods will understand the meaning.

@bjb568 it is just some local (local to India) people criticized, who are following a certain political party.

Meh, all political parties not run by AI bots are bogus.

@bjb568 can't mods enjoy a little poetry?

I sent a mod to an extreme edge of land before a steep or vertical slope?
Without thinking?
Those drugs…

I assume a psychological brink
I've never heard the term being used in a "terrain" sense

Or is it the brink of closure? And "you" is not "you"…
Brink may refer to:
Brink!, 1998 Disney Channel film
Brink (TV series), a scientific television series that airs on the Science Channel
Brink (video game), a video game developed by Splash Damage
Brink (surname)
Brink Productions, a theatre company based in South Australia
Brink, Virginia
Brink, West Virginia, an unincorporated community
Brink, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, a ghost town
Brink (norra delen), a location in Botkyrka Municipality in Sweden
Brink Junior High School, South Oklahoma City

think/brink - that's a rhyme

7:14 AM
So…
the person or people that the speaker is addressing or any person in general negatively, inversely, or conversely had a particular opinion, belief, or idea or directed their mind toward someone or something using their mind actively to form connected ideas at what/which time the person or people that the speaker is addressing or any person in general dispatched or posted the speaker in the direction of, identifying, concerning, or indicating attachment to a particular, already mentioned, or general extreme edge of land before a steep or vertical slope or of that figuratively.
(it took a while to write that)

@bjb568 it will also take a while to be understood (at-least for me) ;)

English!

english is fine, just the usage of words is making that a bit complex for me

Heh. It's the definitions of every word in "You did not think when you sent me to the brink".
You: the person or people that the speaker is addressing or any person in general
did: not covered, the second part of the sentence is past tense
not: negatively, inversely, or conversely
think: had a particular opinion, belief, or idea or directed their mind toward someone or something using their mind actively to form connected ideas
when: at what/which time
you: the person or people that the speaker is addressing or any person in general
sent: dispatched or posted
me: the speaker
to: in the direction of, identifying, concerning, or indicating attachment
the: a particular, already mentioned, or general
brink: extreme edge of land before a steep or vertical slope or of that figuratively

At last I am able to get it all

7:24 AM
English is like python: Where's the friggin parentheses?!

btw, @bjb568 have you ever tried for a post of english teacher somewhere?
I think you'll be very good at it :P

When sentence complexity goes up, parsing time goes up by O(2^n)
@DroidDev Really? Never thot about it.

@bjb568 when sentence complexity goes up, my interest goes down by 10^4234241234534457467 :P

:P
Another problem with english is that it's a sticky web globbed on to physical things. To is "used to introduce the second element in a comparison". You have to know english to know english. Knowing another language or hearing language is "knowing" enough since it's a globby blobby recursive web.

@user0000000 Why on earth would you want to try that?
@Alex It didn't show the css first so no attempt shown I guess

I was thinking it could reduce my sugar intake, since I pretty much just drink coffee and soda for the caffeine anyways.

that could work too

a user keeps removing and replacing with , like here stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/5106278 , is this just rep hunting?

Didn't I have a fight over that tag?

@user0000000 It happens fairly often. If the user only replaces tags without fixing other issues in the post, reject. If there are no other issues besides the tag, approve. It's a lost battle though, trying to reject, with the robo reviewers.

A: Should users be allowed to ask people to upvote their post?

Robert HarveyI find such behavior whorish, but not something worth taking any sort of moderator action on.

If the user is new and has asked a couple of questions without any one accepted you could point out that functionality to him. If I do I normally post a link to the help topic on it

another question.
is this the proper way to upvote a question suddenly when the op accepted my answer?

you can vote however you want to, but you shouldn't feel like you need to upvote just b.c they accepted your answer

heh, it got reopen with -7: stackoverflow.com/questions/24324465/…
that is kind of bad thing for reopening...
@rene: :D
I gave a pity upvote for the above post.
it does not deserve that many downvotes after the edit and reopen.

So that I can collect all the badges and boast about it.. :| that is what the badges are for right? — Harsha Vardhan Kode 58 secs ago

@rene For me, it does.
Probably you have a static IP.

Yep...

Changing from static to dynamic IP is not that difficult, so it's still not very effective.

We can always ban complete ip-ranges...

That's a possibility, but then you might ban too much people.

11:17 AM
they might ban all employee of same company, right?

Or the misbehaving user might still get an IP outside that range. My IP range varies very much, sometimes it starts with 9*, sometimes with 8* but I've also seen it starting with 1**.
@CapDroid Yes, indeed, or just an innocent user who unforeseen gets the banned IP assigned.

Marriages have ended in divorce over ip bans caused by one spouse.

@ProgramFOX so what can be solution for this problem ?

mitigation
prevention doesn't seem to work

@CapDroid I'm afraid you cannot really prevent them, just making it harder.
a MAC address is unique but it is very easy to spoof you banning that won't help either.

I am getting tired about complaining OPs when I close a question for a duplicate.

Not cruel enough for those kind of users...

@rene a table saw, a giant table and a bunch of chains?

@FinalContest maybe you need a canonical question that describes the exact problem and the method to debug it, so you can answer it
sometimes the duplicates has information that obscures the reasons behind them

@JanDvorak Any re-enactment of SAW would be OK

@Braiam: just improve the canonical.

@rene you can also throw random flesh-eating insects on them
but don't forget to wear gloves :P

@DroidDev Ouch...that would give me nightmares...

@Merlin069: please use the duplicate flagging system instead of avoiding it if I may ask you. Even yourself gave an answer for this type of question in the past. — Final Contest 42 secs ago
not sure why two people wanted to reopen it.
in general, is it revenge if an OP upvotes all the answers except the one's who closed the OP's question with binding vote as duplicate to the thread with the answers?
:)
I guess it is likely that the evil closer will not get upvotes in that case in the other thread if it happens to be the same person :)
I wonder if the closer should be anonymous.

@FinalContest No
If you are that afraid of downvotes, don't close it. The closer has always appeared. Just because it's one person on dupes makes it no different than 5 on another close type

1:36 PM
it is a little bit different... i think the closer name appears in larger letters. and if someone disagrees with the closer then it's easier for them to decide who is responsible for the thing they disagree with
but making the closer anonymous isn't a good thing, because then people can close things without being accountable for it
making them accountable adds that little bit of extra effort they need to make when deciding if something is close worthy. if they were anonymous they might not think about it so much and end up closing things they were less likely to have closed otherwise
it's also a bit nicer for the person who had their question closed, because they can feel like a person did it

it's also a bit nicer for the person who had their question closed, because they can feel like a person did it -> L. O. L.
nice joke :)
well, anonymous != not visible for mods.
so for moderation if needed at all (for gold badge users, really?), that would not change anything.

1:55 PM
maybe making the font size a little smaller on the closer name will make it less threatening. it must be quite scary for them to see Final Contest in big letters with a gold dot next to it

LOL

a problem with being accountable to moderators only is that if the moderators are your friends and/or like you for whatever reason then they have the opportunity to turn a blind eye to your activities. also, and more importantly, their involvement is only required when someone raises the closure as a problem, something that isn't easy to do as far as I can tell
unless there were mechanisms in place to alert moderators to the existence of overzealous closing practices, they would likely never know

2:10 PM
even better than making the font smaller would be to hide the name of the closer and require the user to take an action, such as clicking a link, to find out who the closer is, i mean, does it really matter who closed it, if someone cares enough to find out they can click the link
though you could argue that doing that is pretty much the same as making them anonymous, because i imagine most people wont care who closed somthing
so they wont bother to find out
they way it is at the moment, the closer of a question is boldly spelled out in large letters
you can't miss it

As it should be. Those are the people that closed your question. Why should that be hidden?

the names of reopeners are much less visible

A flaw, I believe, but you are correct Jan

how about pink to blue rainbow for the names?

the people who closed it are not as important as why they closed it, the reason should be at the top with the names at the bottom in smaller letters.
displaying the name of the closer before the reason makes it look as though it's more important than the reason

2:21 PM
@Alex: not sure how much you closed with gold badge, but it is annoying that they start arguing with you.
instead of saying thanks for pointing to an already existing, stable and robust thread.

I think they would be less likely to argue with you if less attention was drawn to you as a closer
as it stands, the first thing they see is your name

@Alex Nah, then you just get "Why was this closed?!" comments.

so to them, you are the cause of their question being closed
i suggest:
marked as duplicate (in bold)
This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question.
closed by <username> (in smaller letters)

They aren't talking to the person, they are just arguing that they are a unique little snowflake.
