Somebody help me decipher this braindeadedness please ...
<script src="JavaScript/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
....blah
var strDate = document.getElementById('<%=txtFromDate.ClientID%>').value;
var endDate = document.getElementById('<%=txtEndDate.ClientID%>').value;

@jcolebrand Uh, he included jQuery but didn't use it.

I know right
and I have to work with these people ...
@YiJiang good nap btw?

@jcolebrand Uh, sleep. Sleep. Not nap. Uh...
Also,

@YiJiang lol, in here does it matter?
omg, it gets worse @YiJiang
  testData = PageMethods.Message(gridData,strDate, endDate, OnGetMessageSuccess, OnGetMessageFailure);
  return false;
}

function OnGetMessageSuccess(result, userContext, methodName) {
  //other stuff
    $(document).ready(function () {
        chart = new Highcharts.Chart(
I kid you not. They assign a return value to something that will never get used, and they call document.ready within the function
please tell me that serves a sane purpose ...

1:33 AM
I suppose that means that you don't know either huh?

@jcolebrand Well... no not really

yeah, I figured :\

2:18 AM
question about data explorer

yes, what can I reasonably expect without crashing my browser?

To limit the data you're getting back to a certain subset. Perhaps a TOP 100 after the SELECT

aha 100

Also, to know that it's going to give you a reasonably fast result
What might be better is to download the data set and then play with it locally.

2:20 AM
so if i do something like select * from users where reputation > 100, I am an idiot?

Microsoft gives away SQL (a specific version) for either free (with VS) or for free (if you're a student)
@demongolem yes
that's some odd 30k users

yes I can claim to be a student (hehehe)
I have a gwu.edu address

it should be fairly quick, but still, that information is already widely available
@demongolem then checkout dreamspark

@demongolem Eh, the server-side would probably timeout before it creates enough data to crash your browser...?

@YiJiang that's what I'm thinking

2:22 AM
so then on to my specific question earlier today ... is answers accepted % a field, I don't see it?

no
not as far as I know

ah rats
it would be really really useful

additionally, not all information is available there

@demongolem then talk to a dev
post your request (with a valid and clear explanation of why) on meta

2:23 AM
ok thanks i will try
i am outta here for the night, bye all

night

Ah before I go, I found the workaround at data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/s/695/…
but it is a long query

there you go then
Ayes 33, Nays 29!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just put this out there even if I am not here: What do you consider the most appropriate of the affiliate sites for AI? From the list, it looks like theoretical computer science (TCS as they call themselves) is closest yet they are not really AI.

12:46 PM
@demongolem Stack Overflow should do
TCS is for graduate level stuff, I think

7 hours later…
7:17 PM
@demongolem you really need to explain more. What do you want to know about AI?

7:34 PM
@jcolebrand: hi mate, Gud Morning

Good morning sir. I trust your English Grammar lessons are still in progress?

@jcolebrand Nope i feel i had improved a lot , so i believe i m not in learning progress
@jcolebrand: Then What's up ? you are discussing about Same sex Marriage , why that disussion arise mate

@SankarGanesh there was a large vote on it in the state of New York yesterday in the US, and it was signed into state law by the Governor
In the US that is a very contentious topic, even tho it should not be, because marriage is very much a legal matter, and not at all one of matters of the heart.

7:56 PM
@jcolebrand oh, what is your personal opinion about that , Will u agree is that a legal one , bcoz [to be honest ] i hate this , i m disagree with this

If you would like to read a very good discertation on the topic of the twists of legality, I encourage you to read qntm.org/gay
@SankarGanesh you disagree with what? You disagree that two people should be allowed to form a legal union separate from their gender?

@jcolebrand if same sex marriage is supported , then about the next generation ?

@SankarGanesh what does that question mean?
You lack the ability to clearly indicate the topic that you're relaying to me. I am almost always lost when you try to hold a conversation.
Do you mean: How will new children find their way into this world if man lays with man and woman lays with woman?

@jcolebrand yes , you're right?

In the US we actually have a fairly acute problem of too many orphans and too many people who have no business raising kids, to our own detriment. So it is of benefit to the state, to the people and to the community for a woman and a woman (or a man and a man) (or even a woman and a man without children) to adopt the children, give them a good home, teach them good moral values, and to provide for them with purpose and with the intent to make better citizens of this country.
This is rather a topic that I hold dear to my heart, and no-one can present a strong enough counter-argument to dissuade me of my beliefs. Additionally, I do not try to dissuade another of their beliefs, only to indicate clearly and completely that I hold these beliefs and what they are.

8:03 PM
@jcolebrand well said, Gud

If the Good Lord Almighty were to manifest in my room at this very moment, and he and I were to discuss all matters of the universe, he would not dissuade me from stating that the foremost matter on this planet is to love one another.
@SankarGanesh please say "good" not "gud"

@jcolebrand Sure i had use the short form which is used by the people here ,:)

@SankarGanesh god I hope not. I shall discourage it as often as I come across it.
Anyone who encourages you to talk like that has no business in this room. This is a place for educated people to have educated conversations, even if we do divert into playful banter from time to time.

@jcolebrand again well said

@SankarGanesh I hear that frequently. I am rarely unsure of my position on a topic once I choose to discuss it.

8:06 PM
@jcolebrand oh , did you ever read any psychology books or motivation books

hell no:
@SankarGanesh sure a few

@jcolebrand can you pls recall and tell me what are they ? and rate that books and also point out some your likes in those books

@SankarGanesh I could, but that would not benefit you. You must seek your own wisdom and growth. If I could give you my wisdom, I would, but you must remember where good judgement comes from.
"Good judgement comes from experience, experience from bad judgement"

@jcolebrand yes you are right but i m taking a survey that's why i asked you man?

Wisdom is the application of good judgement
@SankarGanesh what good will it do you? What other responses have you gotten?
The best learning is not from a book, but from a teacher.

8:10 PM
i found "the alchemist" quite insightful

My best teachers have been many, but if I were to single one out, it would be "Professor Dale Gunn, Ph.D."

@jcolebrand oh great plenty of people pointing Professor Dale, you know 68% people had told him
@Scrooge Thanks for sharing your views

@SankarGanesh If you can introduce me to another individual outside of the state of Alabama who have had professor Dale Gunn I want to meet them
I feel very strongly now that you are lying to me, and that makes things worse.
Please go and take a moment and read the link I posted earlier.

@jcolebrand hmmm Sure, i m not fully relying you, man i asked this question to 30 peoples but your answer is one of the top answer in my survey results

@SankarGanesh Again, I call you a liar unless you can introduce me to someone else who has had the same professor I have had.
The odds of you running into another who says he was the most influential professor they've ever had is so very slim.

8:16 PM
@jcolebrand i think he ran away with the fear of being caught lol

@Scrooge no, he's here somewhere
Hopefully he went to go read that qntm.org link

@jcolebrand OOps i misread out it is not Professor Dale Gunn it is professor Dale T.Miler

I think all programmers should read that and understand it to its core

@jc

@SankarGanesh I knew that without asking. Additionally, you've misspelled his name.

8:17 PM
@jcolebrand yes

@jcolebrand i was rading
*reading

@Scrooge i m not ran away i had verified my document survey, then only i came to knew i missread out

is kinda funny as well
@SankarGanesh hmm

@Scrooge he's a very good author
someone around me is playing music live, and I want to know whom

@Scrooge LOL
@jcolebrand sometimes i confused thanks for correcting for me

8:21 PM

8:38 PM
