Hahahah

Poor opera was sick that day!

@Trufa Or maybe just excluded from the party, like in the real world.

@TimStone hehe true!
Im installing opera now, I never actully tried in on linux

Good Evening!

Hey Moshe, learned yesterday I may be doing some iOS work.
excited

@MichaelPetrotta Oh, hey, sounds cool!
Would love to help if necessary. Taking the summer off to work on my apps before college.
What kind of project?

Yeah. Gotta go get myself a MBP now. [starting-fromzero]

@MichaelPetrotta Ah, ok. Well, Apple does well once you get over the reality-distortion field.

you mean the dev experience?
BTW, US$2000 limit. Was thinking 13", 8GB, 128GB SSD. Would like more, but. Thoughts?
(Will be mostly using external display, I imagine)

2:22 AM
@MichaelPetrotta Yea, was going to say.
@MichaelPetrotta Just don't be like me and get into video editing or graphics editing. Youe SDD will run out of space in a heartbeat.

yeah, small size is not exciting, but I can't imagine dealing with a spinning disk on Mac is any more fun than it is on Windows.

I wish I had that budget for a new computer at the moment. I'm using a MacBook. A plain ol MacBook.
Confession:
Never used an SSD. Ever.

they still make those? (:

Yep.

Oh, you don't know what you're missing. Happy as a clam with mine.

2:24 AM
Although I'm hoping to get a repair/replacement. I noticed the display hinge is a little off on the side.

stuff just zip, zip, zips along. Makes corporate-mandated bloat manageable.

Heh.
Hang on brb
@MichaelPetrotta Oh, one thing, you'll be fine with 4GB.
Save money on RAM by buying from a third party.

good advice.

If you want 8, get it elsewhere.
Newegg. whistles

really wanted to pick it up from an Apple store today, but newbie that I am to that world, I didn't realize I couldn't customize it (SSD) at the B&M store.

2:29 AM
B&M?
Oh
got it
brb

Hmm. Dumping the RAM brings a 15" w/ SSD into budgetary range. thinks

Yea, go for it.

and discount, room for a high-res upgrade. Yay!

Great!
is jealous :-D
Well, know of any summer camps that want to beta test my app for just $29.99?

It ain't/won't be mine, belongs to my employer. Still happy.

2:35 AM
Well, yea, I should find a job.

That cent makes all the difference, huh? (:

@MichaelPetrotta For sure. Yeppers.
Ok, Finishing up purchases.

No idea, sorry. No kids in that range.

I wonder if I should do reporting and inventory too...
Just curious, @MichaelPetrotta, what do you do that you're now getting into iOS dev?

Software development for a large corporation. Don't mean to be coy, but I don't like mentioning them here. Easy enough to google, if you're interested.
Do mainly in-house work, but we're looking to do some mobile client software.

2:38 AM
Ah ok.
Cool.
If you need help figuring out APIs, bugs, and whatnot, feel free to ask.

I appreciate that. Took an Android class last week, think I want an equivalent for Xcode and Obj-C.

I don't know much about Android.
Xcode isn't too hard.

Neither do I.

I don't know what your programming background is, but I've played with the Android SDK once or twice.

Mostly Windows, C/C++/C#/Java. If Phone 7 were popular, I'd slot right in there.

2:42 AM
Yea... about WinPhone 7.... :P

SDK looks decent, docs are good, don't like all that XML flying around.

Oh, I've heard that a lot.
Re iOS: You can write C also.
Objective-C is a Framework on C.

Is that worthwhile? I assumed I'd want to jump into ObjC head-first.
(as opposed to plain old classic C)

You would want to dive right in, but it's worth knowing that C is there for you if you need it.

gotcha.

2:44 AM
You can also write in C++, but the file extensions change and it gets confusing.
I don't really know C/C++ officially, I started with ObjC straight.
Just used C structs for the first time in this latest project.

thanks for the advice, Moshe. Gotta run.

@MichaelPetrotta Sure, have a good one.

What's a "regression" in a bug report?

The bug was fixed before, but has remanifested itself.

So what does Apple mean when they ask for a Regression when filing a <strike>radar</strike> bug report?

I'm not sure what a radar is.

A bug report is called a radar in Apple-land. (Prolly related to the software used for bug tracking.)

Ah, Wikipedia informs me that the term regression has evolved to indicate any problem that didn't exist before, whether it was fixed previously or not. Good to know.
They might be asking for a test case to reproduce the issue, but I'm not sure.

5:46 AM
Ok, thanks.
Drat, just got my MacBook's "q" key stuck in my sleeve. Now it's bent out of place.
Well, the display is falling off a little as well, time for a trip to lé Apple Store.

4 hours later…
9:42 AM
Please tell me @Jin didn't do this

9:58 AM
Yeah, I automatically assumed not :P

10:48 AM
Well, my importer is almost done, thanks to @davedelong and his awesome CSV parser library for iOS.
Ugh, 'cept all of my accounts appear to be in all groups...
Now, how to diagnose this one... ?
! (idea)
Ask each account to tell me how many members it has.
Ah, got it.
My entity IDs weren't properly incremented, was supposed to save after each account import, not at the end. Ok, that explains things.
Dunno how efficient I'm being, but yea, in this case, it gets the job done.

11:46 AM
csv parser?
isb't it just ; and ;; separators?

3 hours later…
2:22 PM
@Mvy Well, I had to process the parsed data.
And, separators can be of any one of several characters.

Jin
2:42 PM
@YiJiang i've never seen that Ad
@YiJiang did you click on it?

is too tired to code.
Should I play a videogame now instead?

3:23 PM
@Jin Uh, no, although it's not too hard to imagine where it would lead
You could - should - produce something better, right?

Jin
3:44 PM
@YiJiang define "better"

3:59 PM
@Jin Something that's not an orange logo on an orange background, perhaps? Less blocky, clashiness?
Perhaps a white border on the logos, with a black border on that...
To give the logos some spacing.

4:45 PM
@Shog9: hi my washing machine does not throw water out side after washing cloths, i have no idea di you have any idea on this

@SankarGanesh Is it a 30-year-old Maytag?
Because if not, I have no idea.

@Shog9 can't get you mate
This is my machine whirlpool whitemagic 650s

Sounds fancy. Mine is very, very old, but also very easy to fix. The schematics are printed on the inside. New ones... The controls are computerized. I hate computers.

@Shog9 ok i donot know what to do, shall i convey my problem as a question in home improvement

@SankarGanesh That would be a good idea. Be sure you include all the gritty details.

4:51 PM
@Shog9 Thanks
@Shog9: can you pls look this Question diy.stackexchange.com/questions/7244/…

@SankarGanesh You're gonna want to provide more details. Presumably you know how the machine behaves normally - when it enters the spin cycle, how long it takes, what sounds it makes, etc.
So the pertinent information here would be, does it behave normally up until the point where it reaches the spin cycle, does it spin but not drain or does it fail to spin at all, are there any unusual noises, etc.

@Shog9: No it is not spinning it just displays the minutes and pour water inside , no unusual voices

Also... Have you pulled the cover off (not the lid covering the drum, but the actual sheetmetal "skin" of the machine) to see if you can find the belts?
A very common cause of washing machine problems is simply a belt that has slipped or worn out.
If you have at least a rough idea of what your machine looks like internally, it'll improve your question immensely (this is likely to be one of if not the first suggestion you'll get)

@Shog9 oh i havenot pulled the cover off, due to fearness because this is not mine my friends machine that's why got tensed mate , you know when i manually pour the water from washing machine , i guess the board may have some problem , but i have to call a service enginner for this , before that i want to know what is the remdey step what is the root case for this

5:07 PM
@SankarGanesh You have two very likely causes, and a host of less likely (and considerably more troublesome) ones.
The easiest would be a slipped / worn / broken belt.
The next one would be an issue with the controls - these are the ones that make me tear my hair out, because if you call a repairman and they diagnose this, they'll just replace the control board and call it a day.

@Shog9: oh i feel bad and donot know what to do , because i m satying with colleque he bought this machine , how can i convey this one to him,if it is a small problem i may fix that's why i asked queries about this problem to you

@SankarGanesh If it was me, I'd pull the front off and look for anything obvious (belts, pieces falling out...) But then again, this is why my friends are reluctant to let me touch their machinery...
BTW: never seen this before - "An interesting feature that allows the machine to store water up to the required level whenever there is an adequate supply. Hence it acts as a boon in areas with erratic water supply."

@Shog9 oh i still fear to remove the cover because this not mine, mate

@SankarGanesh Sad to say, you're probably not gonna get much help on DIY then - this is all about getting your hands dirty, so to speak. (I don't blame you for not wanting to mess with your friend's machine though)

@Shog9l; this specification of that machine pricemask.com/price-comparison-washingmachines-in-india~1021/… , sure i will work on the machine , after a getting a confirmation from him , so i need help once i got comnfirmation from him
@Shog9: i had opened the cover what are the things i have to foucs on

5:21 PM
If you can see the drum, look near the bottom - you should see one or more (probably more) belts running from the drum to a gearbox (or perhaps even directly to a motor)

@Shog9 the belts are not broken i may guess that something went wrong in the motor

If you start a (wash / spin) cycle with the cover removed, you should be able to see the motor operate. Keep your hands away from the belts if you try this!

@Shog9 ok let me try it mate Thanks for the tip

6:02 PM
@mootinator:hi mate, how do u do

@mootinator what's up?

Just chillin'

@mootinator oh , i had few troubles the washing machine killing me

O_o.

6:12 PM
@mootinator sad mate
@OctavianDamiean: hi mate :)

UPDATE TO THE STACK OVERFLOW TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Every SO user is now under contractual obligation to act every time they come across a Gearman question when misreading the tool's name as "German" can be used as the basis for a witty comment. "How to kill Gearman worker", "How to gain access to Gearman administration", you get my drift.
