12:00 AM
@GEOCHET you have an obsession with panties don't you? Wetting them, bunching them, it's kinda... weird.

blinks

And Jeff is resetting his comment flags. Classy.

Pretty sure I questioned the business model recently, and got a straight answer. I blame ExSex for this.

Jeopardy time.

@DanGrossman I think you mean Cooking THC time

12:01 AM
@MichaelMrozek I think that's illegal in most states.

Considering there is a +15 on the question, Jeff is ballsy for acting like such a dick there.

@GEOCHET You should definitely keep talking about it. Maybe post a meta question or two

Joel Spolsky makes an appearance. Let the flaming of Gortok commence!

I think I came in late. Where's the flaming Gortok?

Q: What is Stack Overflow's business model?

George StockerI once answered a question that asked how Stack Overflow makes money, but that was before the time of VC. Now, Stack Overflow has cash, and they have an ever-growing list of employees, but where's the business model? The Experts-Exchange team took the time to answer its own Q&A about its si...

12:06 AM
@MichaelMrozek Mmmm... cooked THC...

Watson is scary.

Wanna know what happens? (;

Does someone die?

@RebeccaChernoff Don't you have football to watch or something?

o: football season is over!

12:12 AM
hmm maybe hockey then ... baseball is just starting up again too

I am now convinced there's some connection between these two Watsons. They're both creepy.

BASEBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Phillies gonna win it.

more importantly IT IS ALMOST MARCH MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My god people enough with the damn flags

12:15 AM
Somebody needs to learn what the flag button means
Whoever you are, you're very confused

flag != star
4

Who? What?
Oh, chat flags... never used that

@DanGrossman There's been 6 flags in here in the last 15 minutes or so, almost entirely on completely non-spam/offensive posts

It doesn't tell you who's flagging?

Oh, I know who's flagging; I don't need the system to tell me

Cooking Town Hall could use some activity!!
everyone go ask questions!

Like what's an appropriate use of dill?????

@drachenstern Just add "when moderating" on the end to make it on-topic

12:45 AM
I like the food questions @RebeccaChernoff XD

in Seasoned Advice Town Hall Chat on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 8 mins ago, by Michael Mrozek
You've got mad and are abusing your mod powers. A dev is on the way to suspend you for life. You only have time to ban one person before they get to you. Do you suspend: Rebecca Chernoff, Jeff Atwood, Josh, or whichever innocent user's profile you can find first
best. town. hall. question. EVAR!

lol, indeed

wow

@DanGrossman holy crap

I've seen that. I thought it had music, however.
Well, this one does.

1:16 AM
@badp I saw that this weekend, it was awesome

although I prefer the music here:

@badp LOL, I like it
I prefer the music here:

@badp what the hell is that game? I almost want to try it!

@drachenstern VVVVVV. It's on Steam and Kongregate.

@badp is it highly addictive?

1:25 AM
I only played the demo, but I liked it.
If you're the kinda gamer that absolutely needs to unlock all achievements then yes, you'll waste a lot of time there.
The game isn't easy and some of them require flawless execution.

@badp I am, yes :-)
@badp That will drive me crazy, LOL

@TheRenamedException Poor you :P

@badp This is why I love RPGs
(in part)

Then I won't be doing that

1:39 AM
So I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, needs to be changed right now in that userscript

Let me have a looksee

I know the notification part needs to be fixed, but I'm worried about the overall mechanics of the bar
Ohh, I need to try it on askDifferent

@drachenstern I like it!

'0155?

@badp WTFFFFF?
@badp I think that's esedocki noAccessForYouToday

1:46 AM
remember that reCaptcha offers you a known distorted word and a word they couldn't OCR; it only checks the known word and stores the reading for the other.

Gee I wonder which one is the known word there :-)

@TheRenamedException '0155 obviously.

@TheRenamedException so what I'm saying is what do I need to alter in it?

@drachenstern so far so good for me
Hey there @Wil

@TheRenamedException haha, check out askdifferent

Wil
1:49 AM
@TheRenamedException Hi!

@drachenstern swweeeeetttt!!!!!
I love it

Wil
@TheRenamedException ... felt like a Cheers moment!

@Wil haha
@drachenstern it centers the content in the supercollider

@TheRenamedException technically that's Jin's doing ;)
@TheRenamedException yeah, I gotta fix the supercollider next

/praise @Jin

1:51 AM
I wanted the superstructure to be right first
Now I gotta fix that other.
So the rest seems to work right, yes?

@drachenstern so far it works like a charm

ooooh userscript?

@RebeccaChernoff Yup, created by @drachenstern

looks forward to it being posted on StackApps. (:

It will get lots of love there
@RebeccaChernoff What qualifies for posting on StackApps? Does the XMPP bridge belong there?

1:53 AM
@RebeccaChernoff I was confronted around 1am our time that it shouldn't go there cos it's not on the API proper

@drachenstern answers my question

I have in mind for a second userscript after this one, but one at a time I'm told

But the API doesn't do what I want it to!

1:54 AM
@TheRenamedException mine doesn't need the API

We're working to clarify this.

@RebeccaChernoff \o/

Obviously with more clarification coming.

@RebeccaChernoff interesting. Then when I finish fixing it up I'll let the world know over there. As stated previously, I have a problem with the supercollider for sure.
@GEOCHET can I ask you a serious question and you answer on topic and nonflammatory?

I don't know. Can you?

1:59 AM
No, it's a two part question. I see you already refuse. Thanks for clarifying.

mmmk. I can't very well tell you my reaction to a question before it is asked.

I see. That's a valid retort. I would hardly think asking a serious question tho would provide a nonsensical answer.
Are you indeed the same guy who was known as mps (amongst various other names) on TDWTF forums?

What makes sense to one person might not make sense to another. The fact that you would rather ask about asking the question tells me that you have far more than a question on your mind.

I just see the whole reference as being inflammatory in nature and want to approach it as a levelheaded topic. Some people are quick to the wrong impressions.
I would rather be slow to ask

Why would that be 'inflammatory'?
Whatever is on your mind, spill it and get it over with. I don't have a reputation for subtleness or for being delicate.

2:04 AM
The whole point is that I don't want to see you in that mode. If the only mode you have is BURNINATION then I'm just gonna jet.
You don't have to "I'm not the kind for subtlety and quiet words and being delicate" ... sometimes you can walk into a room and not start yelling

Who is yelling?

:raises hand:

But if you're the same person as was mps on TDWTF then you might wonder why I ask it here, making it a potentially inflammatory topic.

@DanGrossman Then knock it off, you are scaring the children apparently.

I'm just curious because by the time I started browsing the TDWTF forums mps was already off there, and I note the same URL being used by both accounts.

2:06 AM
@drachenstern I don't see what one thing has to do with the other and why it would cause me to 'start yelling'.

And that leads me to wonder why you have such a rep for trolling everywhere you go.
3

I am not a troll. Never was.
Just because someone is opinionated or vocal does not make them a troll.
And just because a small set of vocal people decide to deride that person does not make them a troll either.

@GEOCHET I concur there.
So then what's with the doublebanning?
You just make enemies very quickly?

A troll does things for a reaction.

@GEOCHET exactly the accusations people have made about your behavior, hence my asking.

2:08 AM
I came to SO and spent a lot of my personal time editing. Most people of that time can tell you I was a prolific editor and did a good job.
A small set of crybabies took issue with their posts being edited and waged war on the notion of editing using me as an effigy.
The great edit wars as it was termed.

My ear popped and it sounds like I'm underwater now.

@DanGrossman You ARE underwater.

@DanGrossman that's what you get for yelling

Surprise!

:gets goosebumps:

2:11 AM
If you look back at those 'wars' you will find varying opinions on the issue, but I was certainly not alone in my stance.
I just happened to defend my stance louder than most when it was necessary.

I have certainly noticed that there are two groups "anti-Chetwood" and "pro-Chetwood" yes

@GeoffreyChetwood I was just checking out your website, and your Terms of Use page is written in latin.

If you look at the people's accusations against me, none of them had anything to do with actual rules of the time.
@DanGrossman Let me know if you figure out what it says. I could sure use that information.

It appears to be sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC.

@drachenstern Somewhere at sometime I had made a chronology of my bans and issues with Jeff and Co.
The 'charges' against me were without exception unverifiable and unsupported. Jeff would occasionally admit that he didn't have (or need) a reason and that it was just because people were 'making noise' about me.
I still have a lot of those emails and stuff I am sure, but I am not sure the investment in time is worth it for me to try and sort it all out.

2:15 AM
So what about the accusations on TDWTF? That you would take issue with what other people posted and build strawman arguments and swerve off topic for every discussion? Would you say those were also unsupported accusations?
@GEOCHET I'm sure it's not. I agree.

Trying to figure out Jeff's logic will make anyone's brain hurt.

@GEOCHET Truer words may have never been spoken.

@drachenstern I have no idea where those accusations come from or what evidence might support it.
Consider that I was well over 4k posts when I was banned and it was because of a moderator that hadn't moderated in years on the forum that apparently had a hard on for me. Jeff S was his name.
I was not alone in my fight against him when he reared his head, but I was the only casualty.
I was well liked by many, hated by a few (that liked to post unsubstantiated drivel and didn't like being called on it)

I doubt you were the only casualty. To hear the remaining members of that forum, there were many that left around the time you left. I don't know all the intrigue there, however, as it's not my site.
@GEOCHET and as far as I can tell they still don't.

AmmoQ (moderator for all that time) liked me and had a great dialog with me and other prolific members.
@drachenstern I stopped following the drama after I was banned.
@drachenstern I am not at all surprised that things changed around there afterwards though. It was such an awesomely blatant example of moderator abuse.

2:20 AM
Cool. Thanks for the dialog.

Try and consider that I was over 4k posts and was well liked by the only known (at the time) moderator there and I still got banned because this mod who hadn't posted in years suddenly decided he didnt like me.

Now I need to go find food.
and work on a userscript.

And I am fairly certain I know the backstory to that as well, but I doubt anyone is interested.

Josh check out gaming... the header isn't quite right is it? Do you see that on any other sites?
@GEOCHET I wasn't there at the time nor very long in general so I'm not really

@drachenstern K. Well now you know.
And knowing is half the battle!

2:23 AM
something like that, yes
Always good to ask the source for their side, rather than guessing based on reading, yes?

drachenstern.com <-- seems to be owned by seek2.com

@drachenstern No doubt.

It doesn't really matter though. The facts didn't matter back then, and they didn't matter on SO.com

2:25 AM
@GEOCHET Yes, I've noticed on more than one occasion that humans don't bother with knowing the truth

Yep. It is a fact of life I am well versed in.
Fact is, everyone assumes I am very angry all the time. That is not the case though. I just don't sugar coat anything, and they just interpret that as anger when compared to the fake politeness being emitted by others.
I honestly cannot remember a time where I got angry or upset about anything on the internet.
That simply doesn't make sense to me.

@GEOCHET because people who don't emit emotion are also referred to as psychopaths ... consider that.
Does anyone in here speak fluent or nearly fluent german?

If you want a pretty fair synopsis of my time on TDWTF and SO.com, ask Welbog. He has never pulled any punches for me (or anyone else) and will tell you how it went down (at least what he witnessed)
I can usually interpret some german, but I am nowhere near fluent

No yeah, I'm wanting to get a domain, and the last time I sent an email it was flat out ignored.
I can only presume the domain listing on the whois db doesn't have an actual contact email, which is DUMB but happens
I want that domain

@drachenstern That is not exactly the definition of psychopath, nor do I believe emotion has much of a place on the internet.
Nor do I care if someone believes I am $mental_illness

2:29 AM
> was, until 1980, the term used for a personality disorder characterized by an abnormal lack of empathy combined with strongly amoral conduct but masked by an ability to appear outwardly normal
I only said they were referred to as, I did not say they were indeed listed as such

@drachenstern That is in direct conflict with your synopsis.
Empathy is not emotion, and psychopaths typically appear normal.
@drachenstern Fair enough, but I hardly see the wrong diagnosis of a few ignorant people as a reason to change your own personal behavior.

nom nom I can haz italian style roast :D
@GEOCHET I don't recall recommending anyone change. You were referring to ignorant crowd-followers, and so was I.

Nommy.
@drachenstern Fair enough.

I lied

@mootinator in what regards?

2:36 AM
I would submit that true mental illness might be found in people who did get emotionally invested in what occurs on the internet.

I didn't disappear for two days.
@drachenstern That kid is doing well.

@mootinator excellent

For example someone who gets their post edited to correct their grammar, spelling and formatting and then flips their lid.

@mootinator it happens
@GEOCHET ha! I had someone do that on dba earlier today, and I'm one of the mods... go figure.

@drachenstern Doesn't surprise me. I am the poster boy for that.

2:37 AM
"no, you can't possibly know how my question should be correctly formatted, I'm going to revert it!" (of course, they didn't actually say anything about the reason for the revert, but still)

Look how Jeff acts to members of the community:
3
A: What is Stack Overflow's business model?

Jeff AtwoodThree ways -- and I'm surprised this is in any way unclear or difficult to figure out: Job listings (e.g. the traditional classified ad model) http://jobs.stackoverflow.com CV listings (e.g. the new-fangled and IMO vastly superior dating model) http://careers.stackoverflow.com Traditional, but ...

That is as rude or ruder (depending on who you ask) than I have ever posted.

Grrr, I'm still not sure how that usercript looks with the gaming site layout. I kind of like it and kind of don't.
@GEOCHET Depending on who you ask. I personally thought it was not too rude, but I understand Jeff enough to look past that.
I try to get to know a person before forming an opinion
:515199 I know the feeling

@GEOCHET I'd probably be a bit offended/defensive if someone asked a question which presumed I had no business model.

@drachenstern What kind of understanding of Jeff would warrant that response to such an honest question?

Even if it wasn't meant that way.

2:41 AM
@drachenstern How about a nice game of chess?

@badp indeed.

@mootinator You could just not answer. I don't see where Gortok presumed anything though. That is why he asked.

How about a nice game of minecraft?

@mootinator +1

@mootinator ha!

2:44 AM
Heh, apparently the server at work is still up.
Out of date though :/

@GEOCHET I can only guess you're referring to and I'm surprised this is in any way unclear or difficult to figure out: because that's the only thing there I saw as even partially rude ... and I'm surprised anyone can't figure it out.
I also thought they ran ads on more than just the trilogy.

@drachenstern That doesn't mean it had to be posted. Just explain it or don't/

But I'm well past ads on the sites I actually care to visit, so wouldn't care to notice.
@GEOCHET but it's been discussed on and off in all sorts of places. George has been around long enough to have seen most of those.

@drachenstern Remember, this isn't an interview, this is a wiki. Perhaps Gortok just wanted to have a thread set up for future people to understand.

90% of SO questions these days could be answered with "I'm surprised this is in any way unclear or difficult to figure out" :P

2:47 AM
@GEOCHET that's true, and I want to defend it as "the people on MSO will know this" but I can't honestly defend that.
@mootinator ha! in 6 to 8 weeks it will be ;)

@mootinator +1 My point exactly. And no one else is allowed to reply in a rude manner.

@mootinator You would get a "huh" moment if Alex Martelli asked about print :)

@mootinator But no one is allowed to reply rudely to those.

@GEOCHET or rather, nobody is willing to flag Jeff and he sort of has veto power even if they did

Ooh, ooh, I'll do it.

2:48 AM
My ears were burning.

@drachenstern I do. Why do you think I get banned these days?
Sorry about doublish posting. Was getting timeout errors from our IRC wannabe software.

Ok, well I promised my wife I would help her in the apartment, and she's ready to go NOW NOW NOW

Gortok
How you doing, you dirty bastard?

we've already hung some stuff, and now she's ready for me to keep going
So I'm gone

@badp Yes I did, but it isn't obvious.
@drachenstern wink wink

2:51 AM
Oh I see. Nevermind.

I'm doing alright. I hadn't realized it'd been a year since your boxing, @Geochet.

I do need to know what drachenstern means at some point.
365 day ban
I saw you getting flamed by Jeff. That was classy.

It's funny that you mention that; I emailed him earlier tonight about it after my fiance read the post over my shoulder and asked what he had against me.

Very childish and rude. If I had used the same mannerisms everyone would be crying for my public noosing.
Interestingly, when I flag the comments, he goes through and resets the flags.

@drachenstern Later

2:54 AM
At least make it a day until your next boxing.
Although technically it's already been a day.
Hiya Shog.

Whatever. What do I care if he bans me again? I just keep doing what is right.
He has proven several times now that he doesn't need a reason to ban me anyway.

Jin
@GeorgeStocker yo. we need to get some pho. that place expanded their menu. it's even better now.

I'm dealing with my own problems. Custom routes that are pulled into a custom configuration file that are constructed at runtime to be a RouteCollection; and I'm trying to unit test the routes not using a class library because that isn't the 'norm' in the project I'm working on. Needless to say nothing's working right.
@Jin I'm so there.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for replying to someone?
Or is this a mouse thing all the way?

I am 11k+ and I have been banned for a year. I must be doing something right.

@GeorgeStocker There's tab-completion on @names

2:58 AM
@dan But does it mark it as a reply if I do that?
guess not.

Nope

@GEOCHET Yea; just testing.

@Gortok: Anyway, just wanted you to know, good question and good job staying cool despite being treated like poop.

@GEOCHET: out of curiosity, how do you know it's Jeff resetting the flags?
