I think we should just allow characters with even codepoints, but not odd ones. That instantly halves the chance of unicode spam.
2
Problem solved.

\o/

@balpha This also removes 50% of characters used by spammers, such as 'a', 'e', 'i', 'o' or 'u', making it harder to write meaningless drivel!
Genious!

áóíúéæðöþ

I love when people send me contact emails with just a stack trace, heh..

@TimStone Straight to the point!

7:06 PM
Yeah, thankfully I could tell what it was they were doing.

What are some good websites to use to promote my iOS app?

Wait a second, what the hell?
2

@PopularDemand Oh really? It's really a matter of change. They rob you of all of your change and then dare you to buy a "cheap" PC.
What SE site is this appropriate for, if any:
What are some good websites to use to promote my iOS app?

...

@Moshe Webapps obviously!!
(double exclamation mark == joke.)

7:17 PM
@badp :-)
Got a serious answer?

I'm afraid the answer is "none"

@badp Okay.
So we need a marketing site.
To A51!
They exist, following!

7:43 PM
> "Chat doesn't know (or care about) you..." – balpha♦ 1 hour ago
Distressing.

Hahah

I get what's it doing, but it does seem like it could round better. Even though I know what it does, I still get confused, heh.

I guess it could do "In under x hours" if it was on the shy side of the 30 minute mark, but...meh. :P
I figure you already know when it's happening anyway, you just want to make sure you don't forget that it's happening at all.

7:49 PM

I prefer to think of it as "saying what @balpha would say if he only had the courage"

@balpha Your ability to stand in exactly the same place in the same lighting conditions whenever you speak is truly astounding.

@TimStone The frequency of the check should be the frequency used for rounding. (:

@RebeccaChernoff I don't know what that frequency is. Also, I'm still confused why I get my emails so much later. IS NOTIFYING ME LESS IMPORTANT? :o

Yes. Absolutely yes.

7:51 PM
...Actually I already know your answer, never mind. :P
Dammit!

@TimStone Don't worry.
> "I still get confused" – Rebecca Chernoff♦ two minutes ago

It was almost better without the "two", hahah. "Arbitrary minutes ago."

8:16 PM
Whoa.
I somehow ended up with two Tavern tabs open. They looked exactly the same except that the avatars weren't the same size.
Specifically, Mrozek's avatar, next to that balpha speech bubble.
Looks like when you open the room up, all avatars are small.

yeah, they're resized a moment later
"causes" the room to jump?
are you still seeing that?

Mmm, I'm not seeing any jumping or resizing.

@balpha I dunno, it used to happen (not the "jump to the top" but the "scroll bar moves a little"), I hardly ever enter rooms to notice.
@balpha No, it seems to be fixed. :)
(my bad)
Oh, Nice Answer badge on SO...someone up voted that Subclipse decorator answer, nifty.

Wil
... I think I could handle it better... what do you guys think of this blokes comments? I don't see anything wrong/can't understand his complaint as he answered a question where it wasn't at all clear what was being asked.... blog.williamhilsum.com/2011/02/…

8:33 PM
Wow, he really did post quite a few comments. O_o

Wil
I think I should just leave it - a bit confused after his first post, he does spend some time on SO, but he seems to be negative where it isn't deserved... I spend a lot of my time in SU rather than here and just really wanted more opinions from you guys :S

Anyway, he's just ranting, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I mean, yes, bad questions are bad questions and are handled as bad questions. Sometimes, reasonable questions are treated as bad questions when they aren't, no doubt about that. But, this doesn't happen to the extent that you can make wild generalizations about it, so.

@TimStone Congrats! I was just using that answer again today.

Thanks, both for the congratulations and asking the question in the first place. I've been able to use it myself when coworkers ask questions, heheh.

Argh, SVN!

8:41 PM
I'm trying to force a switch to Hg, but I'm getting resistance for some reason. I think I'll get us there eventually, but the wait's a killer, heh.

Wil
@TimStone I will leave it there! Thanks for the feedback!

We're supposed to move to a new branch today. I tried to switch over and found myself hit with tree conflicts. So I figured I'd trash all my local stuff and re-download fresh from the new branch, but apparently I set Subclipse to ignore the folder I want to repopulate somehow. Any thoughts?
@TimStone I was considering doing the same, but I don't have the expertise to justify it to anyone yet.

@Wil No problem. Interesting blog post, by the way. :)
@PopularDemand Hmm, ignored in the sense that when you pull from the repository, it doesn't pull that directory?

update C:/foo/bar/baz -r HEAD --force
    Skipped C:/foo/bar/baz
add -N C:\foo\bar\baz
    Path is not a working copy directory
I'm copying what I see in the console, I am sadly not familiar with the command line SVN options.

gah I hate nosebleeds. I should do more coke to try and stop those.
This is the second time in like 45 days :\

8:47 PM
@PopularDemand I have the benefit of being in control...except still under the person who disagrees with me, heh. I thought about starting with the Kiln advertisement, which doesn't go into much detail about Hg, but does kind of say "Here's why your current system is an issue"...Guess I'll see how that goes.
@PopularDemand Hmm...Is that directory in your ignored resources list? Also, let me summon @TheRenamedException :P

I see humor is lost on you people. Do I know you?

My brain hadn't gotten around to processing the second part of your sentence yet, so I only saw the "Oh, that sucks :/" part, not the "lawlz cocaine" part. ;)

Wil
@TimStone Thanks!

@TimStone ha!
Yeah, but for real, I don't get it

@drachenstern Is it weather-related, or something?

8:59 PM
@TimStone I honestly have no idea
went to go blow it earlier and voila

(I had thought about writing that comment shortly after you wrote yours, and somehow I just...didn't O_o)

I normally keep a box of tissues on my desk for blowing my nose, but go through them at the rate of 1 box / year

Hm, weird :/

nothing like sitting around with a big ole honking bit of tissue in your nose.
Also, today would be the day I wore a white shirt :\

Ouch, did you stain it?
Or you're just left with the impending doom of doing so? :P

9:00 PM
no, just the impending doom

@TimStone Not sure how to check that.

@PopularDemand In Eclipse, it's Window -> Preferences -> Team -> Ignored Resources

@TimStone you rang?

@TheRenamedException @PopularDemand has a SVN question, and you have more experience than I do.

@PopularDemand does the baz directory already exist?

9:05 PM
@TheRenamedException It did at the time; I've since deleted it and recreated another directory in the same place with the same name.

@PopularDemand delete it, do not recreate, and then update

@TheRenamedException Ah. I actually somehow convinced TortoiseSVN to start pulling stuff out of the repo a second ago, but that is next on the list to try if this fails.

Deceptively simple question: What is a regular expression?

I often find svn will refuse to update an existing directory it did not put there
@PopularDemand God's Language
Alternative answer: An HTML Parsing technology

9:08 PM
@TheRenamedException What did I ever do to you? Was that SVN question so offensive?

A representation of a pattern that can be extracted from a regular language!

Okay everyone, feel free to jump in for yourselves and tell me how terribly wrong I am about everything:
1
A: What is the full extent of s/old/new and /find in Skype commands

Lord TorgamusThe s/ command is a carryover from the old UNIX command sed. Contrary to what a lot of people on the Internet seem to think — based on my recent Googling — it isn't related to regular expressions. There's a great reference for sed here. However, Skype seems to only support the basic ...

@TimStone woah, you're all serious and stuff today! ;-)

@TheRenamedException Guh?

9:10 PM
@TheRenamedException Hahah

@PopularDemand sorry, my mousing skills lack today. I meant to reply to Tim

Erm...I didn't know those commands existed in Skype. Go figure.

@TimStone Yeah, it's kind of a hidden feature. Speaking of which, heads up @drachenstern.

@PopularDemand yo?

@drachenstern See my onebox above.

9:12 PM
@PopularDemand I didn't know these commands existed on Skype either, nice!

@PopularDemand so you went from 100 points to 130, woohoo ;)
@PopularDemand danke

@drachenstern A 30% increase brought to me by your inability to communicate!

@PopularDemand ??? On which site?

@drachenstern Not for real; I was using the numbers you made up.

9:21 PM
@PopularDemand was that your rep or someone elses?

@drachenstern Mine.

@PopularDemand which site?

@drachenstern SU

@PopularDemand interesting

@TheRenamedException Sigh. Tortoise successfully grabbed everything, but Subclipse doesn't recognize that those are SVN files.

9:23 PM
@PopularDemand how strange!
Can it refresh?

Tissue now out of nose. Nose feels weird. Want to rub it a lot now. #NotGood

@drachenstern yuk. nosebleed I take it?
I hate those. used to get them all the time as a kid :-(

Ja
41 mins ago, by drachenstern
gah I hate nosebleeds. I should do more coke to try and stop those.

@TheRenamedException No effect.

@drachenstern ah, history FTW!

9:27 PM
Now I only need to go wash my hands

@PopularDemand hmmmm...
Maybe subclipse uses an older version of subversion?
I am unfamiliar with subclipse, are you using the latest version @PopularDemand?

@TheRenamedException Apparently Tortoise's Import command just pulls files down without associating them with the repo; they're not getting decorated in Windows Explorer, and no .svn folder was created.

@PopularDemand oh you did an import
You wanted a checkout or an update
or, wait

@TheRenamedException But those options weren't available because it wasn't associated with the repo in the first place.

OK. so now they should be, so now checkout
or update

9:30 PM
@TheRenamedException I see only "Import," "Export" and "Create repository here."

OK. I am a little lost because I came in at the end of the conversation...
You had a directory baz you wanted added to a repo, right?

@TheRenamedException I had a directory baz that was happily getting updates from SVN via Subclipse. Today I tried to switch to a different branch of baz, and it got unhappy in the form of a tree conflict.

OK
so you deleted your local copy?

I tried to delete the folders that seemed to be causing the unhappiness, but that had no effect, so I ended up deleting baz altogether.

OK
Now you want it back on your local machine
correct?

9:34 PM
Right. And I have it, thanks to that import, but the files I got aren't recognized as being associated with the repo.

OK. What you want is a checkout, not an import...
When you right click in explorer there's no Checkout option under TortoiseSVN?

A: I have wordpress mu and it has around 32000 tables

user381595if increasing the size does not work then try increasing the total cached tables to 20000

This is an interesting way to game the system

@TheRenamedException Yeah; going to try doing it through Eclipse (not Subclipse) next.
@statuscompleted Wow.

I'm surprise this has gone undetected.

@statuscompleted and now it's been flagged and reported directly to the mods for SO ;)

9:39 PM
@PopularDemand Do you have a working copy already?

@statuscompleted Hmm, I think it was brought up somewhere already.

...So kind of more surprising that nothing's been done.

@drachenstern Aw, I didn't have to waste my flag on that?

@PopularDemand I wouldn't call it wasted for that particular question :p

9:41 PM
@TheRenamedException I don't have that option in my context menu.

@PopularDemand Are you using it inside an existing working copy?

@PopularDemand The more there is, the higher it is in priority.

Something's not right @PopularDemand. @TimStone do you use TortoiseSVN?

Nope, only Subclipse.

@TheRenamedException I use old school command line svn. :p

9:43 PM
@statuscompleted same, LOL

@TheRenamedException I'm not using it at all, but I think I'm misunderstanding you right now.

@statuscompleted Heh, that user is all sorts of fun...

A: grab favicon from websites on failure use a local one.

user381595wrote the code myself wrote the code myself

@PopularDemand when you right click in explorer, what directory are you right clicking under? Is it part of an existing SVN repo already?
If you right click in a brand new directory somewhere entirely different @PopularDemand do you then have the option to checkout?

@TimStone I'm pretty sure he has receive or will receive a warning from a moderator soon.

@TheRenamedException Yes.

9:47 PM
Hey weird ... stackoverflow.com/users/381595/user381595 only has THREE answers listed, but he obviously should have two zero count answers... does the userpage only show one entry for posts of more than one answer on a Q?

@TheRenamedException No.
@drachenstern See the "(3)" after that question title?

@TimStone I fixededed:

A: grab favicon from websites on failure use a local one.

user381595I ended up writing the code to do this myself. It's closed source, so I cannot share it here, but look into using curl or file_get_contents() if you need a similar solution. You will need to try and get the favicon using one of these methods, I suggest curl. Then determine if the response was a 4...

@PopularDemand Ok. Something's wrong, and I am not sure what it is. Argh!

@PopularDemand oooooh

I don't have a copy of TortoiseSVN handy right now, sorry @PopularDemand :-(

@TheRenamedException at least it's helpfull now.
nice fix

9:49 PM
@TheRenamedException No worries.
@drachenstern If I recall correctly, the counter at left shows your net vote count for all answers to the question.

@statuscompleted No. I just realized he just plagiarized the other answer, LOL!
ROLLBACK!

@TheRenamedException Yeaaaaaaaah, heh.

That guy must be asking hisself serious question

@TimStone I didn't look up, I just saw his comment and edited it in, afterwards I was like, "Wait, no, that's not right, that's not right at all! "

he reputation has gone up and down in the last minutes
and his old post are getting edit

9:53 PM
I'm sure he's all ZOMG WTF BBQ!

OMG WTF !

A: MySQL Complex Query

user381595SELECT count({$row['k_id']}) as k_page FROM keywords_relations WHERE k_id = '{$row['k_id']}' AND percent > '{$row['percent']}' ORDER BY DESC Will this do. please tell me.

@statuscompleted I'm afraid this is heading down the "why i am being persecuted on stackoverflow by high-rep usres" path.

He starts asking question as answer everywhere ...
@PopularDemand sadly yes :/

Q: What tag do I use to start my HTML?

Paul RobertsWhat tag do I use to start my HTML?

@statuscompleted I am confused, that's his answer to someone else's question?

9:57 PM
@PopularDemand Flagged

So, deleted answers don't onebox.

@TheRenamedException no that's question he has about answer on his question.

@PopularDemand When I first posted this, it was OP-vandalized.

Look at the edit by
BAD SUB-2k USER EDIT!!!
> How do I start my HTMLing? My kids are always trying to get me to HTML with them?

@TheRenamedException They just had an answer spam-deleted a few minutes ago too. Wow

10:04 PM
Crazyness

Winning streak gone. :(

@TimStone you know home+power does that better right?

Man, @drachenstern sucks. Look at that, just 2 points.

@badp better'n rchern ;)

@drachenstern ....No. That...explains a lot.

10:07 PM
@TimStone you didn't know about that particular shortcut or you're giving me shit?

@drachenstern The former.

@TimStone interesting

Is there a similar thing for Android phones? I've only ever taken screenshots over USB

@MichaelMrozek idk

@drachenstern Actually putting my iPhone to good use is admittedly something I've really slacked off on. >_>

10:08 PM
@TimStone did you wonder how people got such good shots of their screens on a regular basis?

@drachenstern I figured there was something I was missing, but :P

Q: edit internet speed using C#

atsieehow do i edit the internet connection speed using c#

@TimStone Well now you know ;)

@drachenstern It seems like the uploading step would be a bit annoying.

@PopularDemand isn't that using System; using System.Net; using System.Net.Sekretz; public myClass { public override void SpeedItUp(NetworkConnection myConnection) { myConnection.SpeedUp( Speed.Fastest ); } } and we've all just been withholding it from him ;)
@TimStone then you should download the imgur app
I either do imgur or photobucket

10:11 PM
@drachenstern Ah :P

Altho I'm thinking of writing my own app like those two, but different
Haven't quite decided if it's worth the loss

10:26 PM
@PopularDemand You can't, you need to use jQuery

hey people, how can i delete my stackoverflow account??

Q: Can I delete my account?

SauronHow can I delete my Stack Exchange account(s)? Return to FAQ index

@psyhclo Why do you want to do that?

Why would you do that?
Also, did you ever get to look at that userscript I sent you?

@drachenstern dunno. just thinking about. change username dunno. LOL

10:33 PM
@psyhclo You can change your username once every 30 days

@TheRenamedException good
thanks man

@psyhclo and if you really want the username changed, then come hang out here for a bit so we can prove that it's not an inconsequential change and we know the people to ask to do it for you
Also the official home for my stickbar userscript will be here for the time being ;)
2
Q: A way to keep the "user bar" on the top of the site stuck there ~ StickyBar

drachenstern Screenshot / Code Snippet About Since people keep asking for a way to stick the userbar at the top of the screen, I'm working on a userscript to do so. Because of the way each site is fashioned and themed, various elements are in different places. So there are some parts that don't work ...

@drachenstern Yey!

Anyone want to pretend to be me and explain my code to someone? I'm tired and don't feel like doing it. >_>

10:38 PM
@TimStone "I did it to piss you off" ;)
It's shake-n-bake and I helped

@TimStone Sure! But, do you really want me to do that?

lmao
@TheRenamedException It's easy enough to go through, I even wrote comments!

"This is the asstrutor. Because you're all giant asses, I had to write this portion of the code..."
"You all give me too much work, so, I decided to just embed the entire source of minecraft in here, and over here, and over here..."
3

It's not particularly complicated code (I'd show you, but then you'd know), so I dunno what there is to explain, but.. shrugs
@TheRenamedException Ahahahah
WTF o_o
Oh, Facebook..
Damn notification sounds

@TimStone if you'll explain it to us, then give the transcript to the other people, then you'll be done. Yatta!

10:43 PM
@drachenstern It'll probably be over the phone, heh. :P
...Err, anyone randomly know anything about "connecting analog devices to computers ... or at least a website that has wiring diagrams for different connectors, ie. J2-J9?"

@drachenstern No idea, I'll pass that along, thanks.

>.> glad to .. be of assistance .. ??

Someone pinged me on Facebook asking about that, hahah. I honestly have no idea what they're up to, definitely not my area of expertise.

Hello!

10:53 PM
'Ello

11:06 PM
I haven't shared this with you yet and there's no reason not to:

11:20 PM
@badp awesome

@badp How'd you come up with it?

@TheRenamedException that twas part of the mod-chat-cast discussion

@MichaelMrozek Ironic or a real question?

Really; I'm curious if there's an easy way

@MichaelMrozek I figured he did it manually

11:22 PM
I did it by hand, not sure how you did it with a script honestly

Well now I'm depressed that the script took me longer than you doing it manually

open a question → flag → doesn't belong here → off topic
@MichaelMrozek The script will be much faster next time.
Well maybe not next time, next time you should be busy writing it in a way GraphViz can understand.
And the time after that you'll be busy hooking the various pieces together.
And the one after that you'll be busy removing the noise of meta sites
but then it'll be faster!

Apparently Comcast Voice is having a nationwide outage.

When I call family that use it I don't hear a ring or a service message, just dead air.
Also, the website of the restaurant I wanted to order dinner from is offline.
It is like the apocalypse, but not as bad.

11:26 PM
Comcast's internet has been sucking for days
Well, more than usual

Yay, the restaurant website is back up. I don't have to eat the salad I already have in the fridge.

Listening to 8 remixes of the same song is fun, so long as the damned iPod is on shuffle.
Listening to the same song 8 different times and in 8 different slightly different ways is nearly painful
@DanGrossman this was in any way surprising?

Oh, no.
