I'll just leave this here: (clicker beware) pidjin.net/2011/10/03/i-just-wanna-feeeel

heh
Trying to sort based on some custom property of a Core Data object...

1:30 AM
Caved and posted a question: (stackoverflow.com/questions/7642421/…)

1:49 AM
I have no speechifying ideas for BarCamp this year.
Which is probably okay, since I'm not trendy enough to garner an audience generally speaking.

@mootinator Pun intended?
Also, what's BarCamp?

2:04 AM
@Moshe It's a community run programmer/business/design conference.
I actually got involved in SO in the first place because someone was glowing about it last fall.
I did a presentation about CaCert last year. Four whole people in that session.

the way I know the word BarCamp, it can be about any topic

@balpha Probably.
For instance cupcakecamp.org
Ours is generally geared toward the hacker/entrepreneur/designer persuasion, I should have specified =).

cupcakecamp, hmm? lol

2:31 AM
o: tis a @balpha...are you back from vacation and utterly confused what time it is?

sort of, yeah

hehe
good trip?

yeah, it was great

I saw THE DEW! In real life!

2:36 AM
ha

the funniest thing, though, was this (in every school bus):

heh
it always boggles my mind when I hear a news story about a kid being left on a bus overnight.

3:08 AM
@balpha Hahah

3:55 AM
@jcolebrand hi! Wanted to thank you for the recommendation the other day, you were spot on with JSON recommendation!

Aye, you're welcome

@balpha Is that a thing?
@balpha Is that a thing?

@jcolebrand Thing?

I have no clue

Foggy brained today.

4:02 AM
@jcolebrand :)

On a scale from my wife to super-programmer I rated about an Al Gore today.
3

I'm tired and dealing with quasi scope-creep.

I did great as a programmer today

The whole app works, except for "tag suggest" and "download from internet feeds".

for the 2 hours I got to play programmer. The other 7 at the office were ... not as effective.

4:04 AM
@jcolebrand I need some inspiration. Tell me about it please.

@Moshe you have to read all my comments to get my jokes

@jcolebrand Ok.

So I'm not sure what to do about this... I'm working on this app for a client and it's almost done. In fact, in the 80-20 rule, we're up to the last 20.

So you still have about 80% of the work remaining?

4:06 AM
@jcolebrand Heh, depends how you look at it.
The app is just about done except for this teensy little feature that was an afterthought but made it into the spec.
And then there's this other bit about sorting which isn't defined either way.

That sounds like the last 1% in the 80-20 rule.

@mootinator Make that 3% then. There's a custom sorting bit, a feed integration bit, and a tag suggest feature.

Sounds like you're only about 2% done my friend

@jcolebrand Why?

scope

4:08 AM
Heh.

creep
I have written enough code to recognize a new guy estimating

Yeah. Undefined bits are the worst.

I did spec this out fairly well though.

<offtopic> I'm listening to music that i used to like 10 years ago, it's an awesome feeling! I recommend it!

night ya'll

4:12 AM
But I do recognize this as undefined. I have to have a phone call anyway, so I'll probably say something like "the app works according to the contract. These modifications are not quick and easy and they are not defined anywhere.". Does that work?

@jcolebrand night!

@jcolebrand Tschüß.

I like to listen to satellite radio by decade =)

lol
Man I can't believe this is from a decade ago
I'm old.

I'm out too. Gonna spend time complaining, or messing up existing code. Time for bed.

4:15 AM
night!

4 hours later…
7:48 AM
@GeorgeMarian Simply awesome

I thought you'd appreciate it.

Also, I'm not sure that going to bed early and then waking up at four in the morning is necessarily an improvement on my sleep schedule, but I guess we'll see how this goes.

8:04 AM
@TimStone that is so cool
You're up before everyone else
Everything's quiet, you can get loads of stuff done, or simply do nothing, without being bothered
I manage to do that way too rarely. I can't bring myself to a regular schedule like that

Well, normally I don't go to sleep until something like five in the morning, so same benefit on the opposite end of my sleep schedule I suppose. :P

@TimStone heh, yeah! :) But there's a difference if you're freshly woken up methinks. At least it is to me (I know both ends, too :)

True, true

I may give it a new try once the current chapter of my life (which is full of work that needs to get done and isn't particularly interesting) finally comes to an end. Soon I hope

Boo for boring work! Aye, hopefully it'll be over soon.

8:13 AM
Thanks! Yeah, I really hope that, too.

1 hour later…
9:24 AM
Dang it, Firefox!

Hmm, I just blue screened because of ATI drivers.
That is...disappointing.

Well, yeah. ATI/AMD bears some of the blame here as well.
I made the mistake of launching Firefox by mistake. I guess I will change that keybind now.

Heh :P

in JavaScript on Stack Overflow Chat, 14 hours ago, by david
no automatic prettying of github links?! shocking

Yeah, I think that's come up before. I don't really remember the details of the conversation, though.

9:38 AM
If stackoverflow was open source id do it myself

Do you have an idea of what it should look like?

No

1 hour later…

10:56 AM
The PHP room on SO is just now drowning us in a flag war. Is any of the mods here to have a look at that?

Hm, unfortunately I haven't seen anyone with moderator powers stop in yet this morning.

sbi
@Marc, do you copy?
@TimStone Well, @Marc does have mod powers, and he is active right now. Let's just hop he sees this.

Aye. It's a shame that this continues to be an issue. :/

11:49 AM
slow day is slow

will look
sorry, went for food ;p

sbi
12:11 PM
@MarcGravell Well, I was out for lunch when you posted your answer, so I can't complain. :) Anyway, thanks for looking into this.

I pretty much didn't need to; no flags showing currently

yeah, I took care of it

12:27 PM
balpha flying in to the rescue! ;p

sbi
@balpha Ah, thanks to you then!
Incidentally, what does the number I click on to see the flagged messages signify? Obviously, it's not the number of flagged messages. (There were about half a dozen messages while the number said 33).

the number of flags

a half-dozen messages with multiple flags each could get to 33, easily

sbi
Waitaminute. So those messages amassed like 5 flags each. Wouldn't they be deleted by then automatically?

12:53 PM
not if enough people said "not flag-worthy"
9
A: How many chat flags are required to remove a message/ban a user?

balphaThese are the current numbers ("current" because they can obviously be changed, but there aren't any plans to do so; they have been like this for a while): The threshold is six, meaning the net flag count of the message has to reach six. Net flag count means the number of flags minus the number ...

sbi
1:05 PM
@balpha Ok, so why exactly is it helpful that I know that 33 have considered this flag-worthy, when I don't know how many have voted against that and how many have clicked on "dunno"?
Wouldn't the number of flagged messages and the valid/invalid/dunno ration per message be much more helpful?
And what about a reason for why this message was flagged? "User has been told numerous times to take his plea elsewhere, now I want him banned just to shut him up" would be so much mire helpful.

2:04 PM
Good morning.
@MarcGravell Yea because food is more important than flag wars. </mock-sarcasm :-D

3:00 PM
To quote my Mom: "How do you deal with scope creepers?"

@Moshe you tell them "no"
More specifically: "That's not what we agreed to do right now so either it waits, or we revise the estimate. If we revise the estimate, we're both agreeing it's going to take us longer to get to the end point."

I wonder if I can use the contract's due date to my advantage, for a change?

3:23 PM
You had better be, that's what it's for.
It's to protect BOTH of you

heh, true.

2 hours later…
5:01 PM
ok, where are you guys watching the launch at?

nowhere!

I suppose twit.tv it is then

Or nowhere!

Up to page five on my paper on patents, tech and patent trolls

apparently twit is overloaded

5:06 PM
yea, noticed

watching the live-blog on engadget.

samehere

engadget- good call - lemme see

2 hours later…
6:57 PM
Live blog is over, you may resume chatting.

The best part about the 4S is the lack of API changes. No new things to learn. (kinda like the snow leopard anouncement)

No changes? That changes EVERYTHING.

7:48 PM
forces his WP7 to update to mango.
We're updating on MY schedule glare.

I want WP7. MS never got back to me.

8:43 PM
@mootinator lmao
I think I made a noise when I lulzed at that

Hmm. Mango. I am disappoint.
The feature (other than IE9) I was looking forward to is disabled (Wi-fi hotspot).

I heard it sucks ... kinda bad
as opposed to the expectation of an update

Indeed.
Let's integrate Twitter with this app which has status updates from everything else in it so you can't find anything useful in it.

That .. sounds incredibly useful there Kev

9:00 PM
I'll be less underwhelmed sooner or later, I'd imagine.
