Im out too

What the !@#$... this is why I've been stuck for 2 hours on checking for withdrawals...
<script type="text/javascript">$(function () { $('#post-4729856').css({ opacity: 0.2 }); })</script>

Heh

SER-OUS-LY!!? Oh, god... faints

@Nyuszika7H Er. You rewrote his answer entirely, as far as I can tell

3:16 PM
@MichaelMrozek Nope, I've just fixed identing and removed $(document).load(), and corrected spelling.

WTF isn't this done on the server side!!? If you can insert a bit of JavaScript into the page to do it, then wtf is so hard about adding a class or even a style attribute!!?

Hee hee
@MichaelMrozek I see mostly removing cruft like <html><head></head>. Not sure why some of the variable names changed though.

@mootinator And the quoting, and the outer function in the javascript part, and the push() call

@mootinator I've changed variable names because originally it was Array which was overriden the built-in Array object.

3:19 PM
Possibly none of it changes the answer, but that's pretty substantial

@Nyuszika7H Why are you removing content from posts? You should only make minor edits.

@MichaelMrozek Never mind it… but if you reject it, please change $(document).load() to $(document).ready()!

Aren't form elements invalid syntax outside of a <form> tag?

@Nyuszika7H No, that's exactly what I mean -- that changes the content of the answer. If that's wrong leave a comment saying it's wrong

@Nyuszika7H Your job is not to change the meaning of the post. The OP posted document.load, so that's how it needs to stay.

3:21 PM
@mootinator I'll check out it at W3C's validator.

This is just... #$%^ stupid. What the hell are the monkeys at SOIS Inc. thinking? Do I have to run the code through HTMLTidy to get something usable!?

@JustinjjnguyNelson I know, but is that even working??

@Nyuszika7H What you should do is leave a comment saying what you would recommend.

@JustinjjnguyNelson okay

@Nyuszika7H Maybe, maybe not. But editing posts is not about making large functionality changes to answers.

3:23 PM
how can I undo my edit?

@Nyuszika7H I'm not sure if you can, but it's rejected now

@MichaelMrozek OK, I'll leave a comment on it.

Hmm..
@RebeccaChernoff 1) Stay clear of @YiJiang 2) Chrome is messing up big time. :P

status-bydesign

> $(document).load() is invalid syntax. Use $(document).ready() instead. Or even better, just remove that (and be sure to remove the last }); too), because it's best to place event handlers directly in <head>, before any events may trigger.– Nyuszika7H 42 secs ago

3:31 PM
THis new editing thingy is really, really nice by the way. Kudos for getting a diff view integreated into the UI that actually works, and isn't annoying

Hi all..

Oh, I accidentally created a new word
integreated

created+integrated... nice one.

@Pekka :P

Meaning a really well done integration
@Fosco Fosco yeah, plus it contains great

3:33 PM
status-integreated

@Pekka even better!
> Professor charged with peeing on colleague's office door...
> Baseball player quits: 'I don't deserve $12 million'...
ahh.. news..

Heh, nice :P

@Fosco Morning. Interested in beta testing my game on the iPad?

@Moshe Sure... It's at home and I'm at work right now though.

Ok, so do me a favor, please send me an email from any email address that you are comfortable with and we can continue from there. Yetanotheriphoneapp GMAIL

3:48 PM
done.

checking email...
still checking

its gmail to gmail.. should be pretty instant.

Didn't get it. Could have to do with my forwarding. Mind trying once more?

will be back later...
ok will do.

Thank you.

Q: Userscript for comment permalink support

balphaThis script does two things: It turns the datestamp of a comment into a link to this comment for easy copy & paste. When you go to a question page, and your url contains a "#comment-12345" reference, and this comment is not found on this page, this usually means that the comment is somewher...

Emails+1 = false; Not sure why.

@balpha Copier!

@TimStone Did the old one do the whole API/auto-expand-comments thing? That's pretty neat

@TimStone - is that French?

3:58 PM
@MichaelMrozek Yeah

Oh. Apparently I should've installed that a while ago then

Really? I didn't find any. Where is it?

Well, we don't talk to the API, I did it in a slightly different way.
@balpha It's part of SEModifications.user.js

@Fosco yetanotheriphoneapp my mistake

We're not good about advertising :p

4:01 PM
I was holding off on installing that until there was a preferences interface, but you guys are taking your time on that

I know, I need to pick up the pace on userscript stuff actually, there's a lot I've been meaning to do.
Then I need to harass Rebecca to stop doing important SOIS work so we can figure out some of those bigger things :P

okay, edited to give you credit :)

Heheh, that was nice of you, thanks. :)

@TimStone No kidding; this whole "valuing job over chat" thing is unacceptable

@MichaelMrozek I know, I'm rather disappointed at the level of responsibility being shown.

4:10 PM
In just in time to leave again ... :\
/afk

Thursday!

I'm a big fan of this gravatar:

Hm, doesn't look autogenerated... :)

4:26 PM
Should we rollback edit like this :

HTTPS://facebook.com
@statuscompleted I would roll that back, yes

@statuscompleted Yes

hums

@balpha, I run both SEModifications and your threading userscript. I haven't seen any compatibility issues.

anybody else want to die of dysentery on facebook too, or just me?

4:34 PM
I made an amazing breakfast discovery. If you grind and mix instant oatmeal into your waffle batter (any flavor), it is delicious :)

@drachenstern You...might be alone on that one :P

@TimStone :p you do know the reference right?

Or has Oregon Trail come to FB?

@TimStone indeed!!!
well, it's in the coming

:O

4:35 PM
@TimPost so in other words, sweetened oat tastes good? ... yeah, try it on your pudding too

I mainly use Facebook for events organizing, nearly all post on Facebook are about events.

@drachenstern well, sweet is ok, but I usually top waffles with fruit

\o/

apple cinnamon mixed in, plus sliced apples on top .. yummy :)

4:37 PM
@RebeccaChernoff hmm... I can't repro no. I saw some weird behavior after installing your script w/r/t my scripts
and I was naturally blaming it on you

@TimPost that does sound good

@balpha I appreciate your not blaming me. (I use your reply to script with no issue, by the way :D)

@TimStone everything old is new again yeah? I've got mixed emotions. I rather enjoyed the fact that that was cutting edge at the time, curious to see how it looks when it finally gets here

@drachenstern I thought it would make the waffles 'heavy', but it didn't

Ok, stop the presses!
What the heck does @balpha's script do?

4:38 PM
@drachenstern I never turn down additional distractions

@TimStone you'll notice I was right on top of that ;)

Hahah, yeah

clearly we just need to blame @balpha
2

You should totally drop that and blame rchern instead.

@RebeccaChernoff I see Captain Picard giving us all the finger in a moment.

4:40 PM
I love the preoccupation with mock-scapegoating here.

okay, so the only advantages to my script now are 1) no ugly fadein, 2) no ugly underlines, 3) no other stuff from the SEModifications script that I don't want :)

Hah :P

@JasonPlank - The infamous, octagonal shaped wheel of blame
(It goes kathunk, kathunk (+ 6 more kathunks)) and then finally choses its victim, who has probably already been beheaded and rehabilitated appropriately :)

Guys, it's OK. The WOB says that it's @Josh's fault.

Good idea, blame the one who isn't here :p

4:43 PM
@balpha contributions welcome, start here or here! (:
I'd love a preferences impl. I like everything in there, but I can easily see the value of being able to choose.
But preferences are interesting with just a userscript, not an extension.

@RebeccaChernoff Can I contribute bling???

Maybe we can get around to discussing that this weekend :P

how do I argue with my boss that adding a character string to the front of a hardcoded character string that should've been there the whole time is not changing the code in a way that will break the build?

And once we make it a Chrome extension, silly Firefox users are gonna want a plugin. And does Opera/IE/Safari do extensions/plugins?

@RebeccaChernoff Opera has 'something' like plugins

4:45 PM
head asplodes

@drachenstern Tell him I said it was OK.

Added to my answer on the migrated link problem:
Edit: Now it's getting ridiculous. I clicked on a link to an SO question and got a "page not found" page on Webmasters. SE is going to end up being a graveyard of dead links.

@LanceRoberts No, just a massive game of matrioska.

speaking of the one who isn't here, count me in that number, off to finish a sproc

4:46 PM
@LanceRoberts probably because a mod on webmasters deleted it upon arrival

@TimPost I'm sure that's why, but now no one can get to the question on the original site from the link, just the dead page.

@LanceRoberts because other SE website are becomming SO trashbox, not just SuperUser !

sometimes I question the point of deletion
if a question is that bad just remove it from lists and search pages
don't break permalinks though

I'm waiting for a recursive migration to occur.
2

4:48 PM
that said I also question user account deletion and freehand drawn circles that weren't painstakingly made with a mouse.

There is a proposal somewhere on MSO to require even moderators to have sufficient rep on the target site prior to migrating, or no supervote

Why did status-completed's starred comment still include my name, I thought the starred comments didn't include the reply names?

@LanceRoberts when they're typed in they show up, when it's a reply to another they don't, that's two different cases

@drachenstern hmmm, maybe they should fix that, it's just a SMOP

@TimStone here was one line of the change I did on Sunday Night at 9:40 (granted there was a presentation the next day, but still:
and he's worried that that's an untested change that could potentially break the build.

4:52 PM
>_>

I'm sure he's just trying to keep me from doing boneheaded things, but mathematically I can prove that this won't break the build.
I know the difference between unsupported untested undocumented new additions the night before ... and a string addition

It doesn't look like that could possibly do anything that would break the build, but obviously I'm not familiar with your project, heh.

IT can't.

I don't know...those slashes can be dangerous things...
hides

hence my ruffeled feathers

4:53 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I knew it was your fault that the sites were down yesterday!

not my fault

I know why he asks me not to make those changes, but still, it was a ten minute fix for something that should've existed long ago

@drachenstern Aye. My brain is about ready to explode over this permissions discussion we're having right now.

Hello

ok, I'm so not writing a query, I should do that

4:54 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I'm bringing the slash in for questioning.

I have business rules

What does a pack of post-it notes cost in the US these days?

@TimPost Good question, people randomly give me some every time I'm almost out.

I'm working on an "If you want me to stop expensing cases of post-it notes, you'll buy me a third monitor" e-mail
2

4:54 PM
:D

$.99 per pack of 100 little squares

$1 a day for me, 365 days in a year, yeah, I think I might win this one

Haha

they'll counter with there's only generally 240 business days in a year
which proves your point again

@drachenstern I hope they do ... :)

4:56 PM
So get a 24" instead of a 27"

WHY ARE WE YELLING?

Big deal.

Hope they haven't heard of whiteboards :X

@Tyler calm... Down...

@TylerChacha BECAUSE YOU'RE IN THE WRONG ROOM

4:56 PM
Oh....

;)
So nobody told me what @balpha's script does

I decided that answering code questions on iPhone is impossible.

@drachenstern @balpha has many sexy scripts.

@TimStone and the trend continues.

As long as the answer requires code, that is.

4:57 PM
still no answers

@Moshe you need to keep a window open to this page:

"The problem is , you need to run that program through vagina to spot leaks .. " Go on, go on, TRY To answer a C question while using autocorrect .....

...waits...

The grave accent ( ` ) ( and less commonly in U.S. English and usually in British English) is a diacritical mark used in written Breton, Catalan, Dutch, French, Greek (until 1982; see polytonic orthography), Italian, Mohawk, Norwegian, Occitan, Portuguese, Scottish Gaelic, Vietnamese, Welsh, Romansh, and other languages. Q: Please show that I've voted for a tag synonym in my suggested view.

Lance RobertsSince it's so onerous to go vote on a tag-synonym, violating the rule of least-number-of-clicks-wins, could we please have the suggested view show that I've already voted on a tag, so that I don't have to click into it to see if I have or not. Then you have to go back to the page, and click on t...

No it's not that. It's the ridiculous amount of typing on a small keyboard with an Otterbox restricting my
thumbs.
Using an iPhone.
I was halfway through an answer web I realized just how broken the OP's code was.

I'm stoked to get a free galaxy tab.. It's carrier subsidized but everything else they sent me arrived unlocked

Nice.

5:02 PM
I just want something remotely usable that doesn't get hot while using it in bed.
I've had it with netbooks.. useless.

@Tim that sounds slightly kinky.

Plus it saves me a couple hundred on a decent quality SIP phone that follows me :)

A coworker of mine got one of those Dell tables that's a phone, not sure what model or whatever, but it's like a 7" tablet. He uses it like a phone, I shit you not. And he's like 5'6

@JasonPlank I was referring to how hot netbooks get when placed on covers on a bed, not my browsing habits.

it's HILARIOUS

5:04 PM
@drachenstern .. who needs Picasso for surrealism .. we have TABLETS!

is looking forward to switching carriers soon since his still doesn't seem to like getting phones.

@TimPost Hey Tim, you're doing great in the primary!

Next month my order to gumstix goes in, then I really get to have some fun :)

@Moshe Got your email... will look at the UDID thing tonight (wont be home till late)

@Fosco Yes, I was delighted to see that. Even if I don't win, it's just awesome to know that lots of people thought I'd do a good job :)

5:07 PM
@TimPost Of course you would... Bravo!

I really do hope to win. It's frustrating to flag stuff when you could just fix it.
There should be some kind of town hall event soon, It's just a matter of setting a time / day for it, FWIG.
Woah, Team Viewer is about to top even Chrome for most versions in a month
Every single time I use it I have to update, and that is rather frequently. My co-worker has the VMWare farm at his place, so I just use it there
And amazingly, all of this effort just to test stuff we do to Xen :) I love virtualization.

Q: Have new tag synonyms that I can vote for show up in the StackExchange™ MultiCollider SuperDropdown™.

Lance RobertsIf a new tag synonym is proposed that I would be able to vote on (i.e. it would show up on my suggested tag synonym page), then please have it show up in the StackExchange™ MultiCollider SuperDropdown™ to alert me.

me too.

I'm actually highly considering purchasing simics. I almost never pay for software
but oh wow, the debugging ... genius!

@TimPost Doing some embedded development?

5:18 PM
@Fosco pvgrub on ultrasparc
@Fosco I first found simics while working on the VFS layer for HelenOS

Has this traversed the room yet?

@TimPost Interesting... way over my head :)

@drachenstern The Ballmer effect? Yeah

@drachenstern friend of mine sent me that a couple days ago... i responded with "Coding High"... "thinking outside the body"

@drachenstern Codified in a book, no :)
"Write drunk, edit sober" -- Hemmingway

5:21 PM
@TimPost You couldn't tell, but I was googling every buzzword you mentioned.

@Fosco My apologies for using a buzzword, which one was that?

@TimPost did he really say that?

@drachenstern Yes, Google the quote.

@TimPost you're too slow
@balpha figures he beat me to it, not like I'm gonna read the transcript tho
@YiJiang really needs to quite being 12+ hours ahead of me in the day :\

5:23 PM
@drachenstern A HIGHLY AUTHORITATIVE SOURCE (NOT) said: goodreads.com/quotes/show/84190

@TimPost No apologies required... had not been exposed to PV-Grub or Simics or GumStix.. those led me to look up other things like DomU images, etc.

@TimPost that was also google #1 here :p

Oh no, a bug that's probably my fault! :(

> Write drunk; edit sober. (e.g. [1]) I did only a quick search, no credible source found - ye
good quote regardless
I am SERIOUSLY not working ...

Who should I poke to get Code Golf & Programming Puzzle started ?

5:28 PM
I'm 'paused', I'm waiting to get access to something to compile Xen, Linux, all of our other stuff and more. At which point I'll be paused again. That's me, Mr. Paused.

@statuscompleted It already says "We are preparing for its launch and expect to create it soon." It's just time to wait, now.

@statuscompleted I'm guessing it will be within 'the next few days'
I rarely if ever chime in on code golfs, but I really enjoy working on the challenges.
Code golf is brain food to C people. I mean, come on, it's C .. no way you'll get the shortest stroke, but it is always fun to explore the limits of your language.
The cool thing is, by the time you get something, someone else did it better, and you learn.

C is the perfect code bowling programming language

I enjoy code golf.. but I'm never in the running for the shortest.

100 lines to make a socket ftw!

5:33 PM
I play code mini-golf with a coworker a lot. At least I think you could call it that.

So even as just a spectator, code golf questions rock (when asked properly)
Still, many on SO don't like them .. I'm glad to see a site emerge just for it. It will go in my rss reader

drops a commitment so he can sneak into the private beta at the last second.

remember kids: turn a plz-to-send-teh-codez question in a plz-to-send-teh-short-codez to transform an horrible question that gets closed into an awesome question that gets 20 or 30 implementations in all kinds of languages!

@mootinator badge whore
2

@mootinator me too ;)

5:35 PM
Oh, I intend to fulfill my commitment.

That's a bug in the system.

Same here, I just don't promise to be any good at it

@JasonPlank Definition?

Were is the cover of Coding Stoned?
With a drawing of a wide-eyed Emu

I might just accidentally post solutions as efficient as that FizzBuzz implementation I made a few months ago.

5:37 PM
@PopularDemand "No, you really don't need x lines of code to do that. Here..."

was already committed to it.. yay!

Makes the downtime pass easily. We don't bother with it when we're actually busy though.

I love one line chaining methods ... makes the actual presentation line so much more fun.

@JasonPlank I don't see how that's different from regular golf...?

sadly the number of associated functions required makes life slightly less fun

5:39 PM
Incidentally, the commitment I dropped was one I picked up for badge whoring purposes in the first place.

Does using LINQ count as codegolf?

Intoxication is a great indication of mindfulness. But it should be done in the presence of someone sober, who knows you as a sober person, so that they can report on differences.

@PopularDemand I thought regular golf was more in regards to whole methods/programs. We do this just for a few lines at a time.

Beer/weed/coke/whatever are tools to see just how well you retain yourself.

It's also programming puzzle, I might make a good remake of "Hello World" code-golf question.

5:41 PM
@drachenstern Problem.Solutions.Select(s => s.IsCorrect).OrderBy(s => s.Length).FirstOrDefault();?

@balpha yeah something like that

@JasonPlank Oh, gotcha. I thought you were improving on each others' golfs.

@PopularDemand that too

@status replied to your email

@balpha couldn't you shorten that to from solutions where answer is correct select answer or something like that?

5:42 PM
@Moshe I saw it this morning

@TimPost personal recent experience (on RX orders) tells me that Klonopin does all that for you with no noticeable side effects. Good stuff.
@mootinator I mentioned chaining

When Balmer did that "Developers Developers Developers Developers" thing, he was likely on Coke

Ok. I didn't realize that your addres switched your first and last names, sorry bout that.

@statuscompleted in befunge?

@Moshe lol, no worry

5:43 PM
Intoxicants often slow me down to an optimal point of focus.

its simply because my name in the right order was already taken

@drachenstern I'm code golf trolling.

me too

@drachenstern and one little adderall pill makes you super coder.. not for me. Sure, I look forward to Oktoberfest .. even thinking about making my own beer soon. But I would not work while sampling, in any context.

I'm also combining that with Monster

5:44 PM
@drachenstern nah, it's a very special variation of Code-Golf.
I should have very interesting answer.

I also need to turn on some metal ... where's mah headphones?

I may sit down after some scotch and crank out the mother of all bin sorting algorithms. The thing is, I won't publish it drunk... nor would I interact with people while under the influence. Chemicals are subtle and do odd things :)
Nor would I discuss an issue with a co-worker after 12 cups of coffee. Same deal

5 days till freedom, fellas...

If you want to get drunk and engage people, start a blog. That seems to be the way to do it.

5:50 PM
@Fosco the end of the month and the separation of your stuff from hers?

I just saw something about lightning and antimatter

@drachenstern Yep! Only 5 days till I cart all her stuff to her new apartment. This month has been like Groundhog day, only every day repeating the same breakup.

@Fosco damn, I kinda know the same feeling. But that's a convo for offline and a beer, should we ever meet

I can't wait to go house shopping next month. I am so stoked to actually own something.

I had to end it... She didn't pass the Turing test.
@TimPost Good luck :) I bought one 2 years ago, got really lucky...

5:54 PM
@Fosco My wife introduced a level of complexity that I don't think I'll ever be able to understand. Hence, I'll quite likely love her forever.

That's great :) I was just making a joke.. thought of it earlier today.

Most homes here are Spanish colonial .. the architecture is amazing
And, since up to (the last ten years) most areas did not have an adequate fire department, they are mostly built out of concrete / cement
I'll be going back to the US for a while in the next two years, I want to buy something that even college kids can't burn down when we rent it out :)
