@ZoestandswithUkraine I don't think so. It just makes more noise and get more coverage. I see it as part of human nature. People being raised and educated their whole life to dismiss and ignore the sexual desire might find it impossible to do. Some can, but many just can't. As for why kids, think it's endless circle, as they went through it themselves as kids. I don't justify it a bit, but can see the possible reasoning behind it. And it's not limited to priests.

Here it's a very known problem either with Rabbis. I believe we're far behind, and vast majority of cases are never even reported.

Actually, the chief programmer in my company is also using this trick, of having negative ID.

But for different reason, to save the need for extra field.

Positive means True in that field, if choosing the extra field way, and negative means False.

@ShadowWizardStrikesBack Assume there's a constant 0.01% or something of priests that pull that kind of shit: if you have 10 million, there are significantly in absolute numbers that do it (and consequently, significantly more victims and a higher probability it gets disclosed), but if you only have 100000, or less for that matter, it's just harder to pick up on because there are fewer cases, even if the relative rate remains identical

Note that this disregards cultural context that may affect report rates, which is a complicated clusterfuck that I can't even begin to estimate
