3:29 PM
repeated characters in body?
it's just "Incorrect integer value: '' for column 'elevation' at row" repeated a million times instead of "hello" a mililon times

Repeated characters in body catches stuff like "aaaaaaaaa", which is abuse and should be flagged as such. While LQ isn't in its scope, abuse is.

"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" is abuse?

@durron597 "hello" is one word, "Incorrect integer value ..." is not.
@durron597 I thought so. It's also what everyone appears to flag it as, but correct me if I'm wrong.

@ProgramFOX I've been flagging it as VLQ

I flag those as abuse, yes.

3:34 PM
@Bart If those aren't VLQ, then the VLQ flag really truly is pointless.
moderators have told me in the past that gibberish is what VLQ is for.

user259867
Also, it seems that @Undo's metasmoke has some escaping issues, metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/reason/20?page=2

user259867
@durron597 I think it may depend on just how busy a mod of a particular site is at the moment. A relevant question is: should the user's account be nuked?

user259867
I think that an account that only posts aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa should be nuked.

Really, Smokey... I make song lyrics to praise you, and you give us a false positive....

That would also be a good lyric. As the "silence" in the original song is something negative.

user259867

@S.L.Barth The second line has "talk with you" in the original. A less common form; I imagine there is an intentional emphasis there.

user259867
Maybe @tchrist can explain if there's a difference...

@NormalHuman I should have looked it up. In the context of the original song "with" is important.
As the song is about people not connecting, not communicating... it even has the line "People talking without speaking / People hearing without listening".

A: "Speak to" vs. "Speak with"

Alex B.Yes, we can see from the OED entries that both "speak to" and "speak with" have been in use in British English for quite a while. However, this is another famous example of a divide between BrE and AmE. In BrE the more common preposition in the twentieth century was "speak TO somebody". Martin Pa...

In North America, talk to you might mean tell you something and may be negative, while talk with you could mean to have an actual conversation and may be more inclusive than disciplinary or some other bad news matter.
So the with seems more bidirectional.
This is just a general feeling. Not everyone sees it this way.

@tchrist We also have "chat to" vs. "chat with" on ELL, and I gave an answer to it.

chats up a chav

user259867
With "speak" it's a more pronounced difference, I think. "You will be spoken to"

It should be: "I'll give them a good talking to".
