Take your time. :)

A: We need [less] no more

Shog9I see no evidence of real confusion or ambiguity here. Yes, less is also the name of a Unix command; that's mostly irrelevant here. IDE means something else in other contexts too, but the ide tag is still clear. In the context of Stack Overflow, less refers to a language for generating CSS. We d...

Enough of this nonsense.
Also off the table: retagging all C and C# questions because they might confuse musicians.

And Java questions because folks might ask about the island or coffee.
Utter madness, @Braiam. For shame.

8:28 PM
@hichris123 incoming ...

It feels like the sole purpose of is for witty puns in the titles.

@Shog9 no, it confuses those that don't know that from the other side of the world exist a css preprocessor called "less"
there are 3 things in the programing world called "less" and the three of them are using the same tag, that is madness

No.
You didn't even research this.
If you had, you'd know something about the rails plugin
Same less language.
This isn't Unix.SE. On SO, less is CSS.
5 seconds looking at how its used and you'd know that

@Shog9 I did

This request, this discussion, is a waste of everyone's time

8:34 PM
heck was me that showed it to you stackoverflow.com/posts/30083811/revisions

Irresponsible. Completely irresponsible.
For shame.

@SantaClaus Occasionally, there actually are horrible tags.

Blind retagging is not due diligence
Not waiting for discussion before doing your own thing is careless.

@Shog9 well, lets close all the less questions then, shall we?

s/ss/sser/

8:35 PM
If you do this again, you will be suspended from Stack Overflow. AM I CLEAR?

I'm not sure what's your scope right now @Shog9

YES OR NO

what I did wrong?

hands @Shog some ice cream

What have you tried?

Come back when you figure it out.

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: EASY QUESTION ON CAPACITORS AND RESISTORS! by Vaishnavi on physics.stackexchange.com

@JonEricson lets see if I'm following you: my plan is that lesscss, less tool/command, and rails-less have their own tags, and that those tags are not confused. You say that a tag for the less command isn't needed on SO. I say "super". Lets close them, since you are suggesting they are off topic (I agree with you, if that's the case) and solve the problem for the other two concept. I'm right? — Braiam 5 mins ago
@Braiam ^^^^ This isn't helping.

Be more specific. What's not helping?

It's painful sometimes to see the irony in some statements.

My actual suggestion is to stop treating tags like card catalog subjects and start treating them like folksonomy.

What exactly is the difference?

9:14 PM
@bjb568 A subject heading might be something like Private flying--Accidents--United States--Periodicals. But a folksonomy would just use accidents and either live with the ambiguity or use more tags to narrow down the subject. (And to be fair to librarians, the card catalog system worked pretty well when we used physical cards.)

Huh.

@LynnCrumbling Thanks, it was a personal concern to me

@bummi I think you might still want to run that title past a mod.
@JonEricson or @Shog9 still around?
@bummi Brought up this question earlier. I have concerns about the title.

@LynnCrumbling Sure. What's up?
@LynnCrumbling Do you have a suggestion for an edit?

@JonEricson He does explain why what the issue was, in the question, but perhaps the title could reflect more specifically what his problem is...
so.. maybe ...
SSMS is overly zealous with changes to schema (or something similar) when designing ?
> So far my experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2 has sucked due to one flaw. When you save your DB Diagram, it creates the tables in the database. I have attempted design in SSMS which sucked due to the flaw
So in the OP's mind, it is overreaching. Title can reflect that instead of "sucks" :)
I'll be there's even a way to disable that.
Yeah, I take that back. The diagram editor is using the data structures as a key.
That's why it needs to create them.
Either way... I digress.
So, that would be a good title "SSMS Diagram tool auto-creates any new tables added to the diagram"
Ah, either way, that question is ot - software-rec
ha..
@JonEricson nice. I'm out.. have a good night :)

9:36 PM
@LynnCrumbling You too.

abusive questions a new thing for me android.stackexchange.com/q/108755/39544

@LynnCrumbling yes

I see a user with 3/5 answers being a link to a product.

that was my main concern :)

9:49 PM
Flag all three answers spam, or send one mod alert for the user?
Or.. just ping jon again?
:)

I had bad experience in handling those with spam or other

@JonEricson I'm sorry. One more time?

@LynnCrumbling Let me look...

Take a look at that user that I just linked to, and see the 3 answers where an alternative to smss was suggested. I don't know if it's spam or not.

9:51 PM
@AstroCB cv'd.

1 more...

@JonEricson There's no way that is a valid answer for stackoverflow.com/q/10585912/656243
Others are answering with select queries...

@LynnCrumbling Probably just overeager. Someone warned them in a comment on the most recent answer. If they do it again, just raise a flag using the "moderator intervention" reason and describe the problem.

@JonEricson Thank you :) Now.. for real... I'm out.

@LynnCrumbling Agreed.

9:55 PM
(as Jon wipes his forehead.. phew..)

Heh.

@JonEricson sorry for bothering, is there a kind of filter for users having used other to often on SO?

@bummi Not really. There's a long flag queue right now, though.

@JonEricson I was just wondering to hear that other flags got handled within hours, I try to avoid them, but sometimes just have no idea what to use instead

@bummi In my experience, "other" flags are just harder to handle than more specific flag reasons. Sometimes they can take a really long time to investigate and make a decision on. They aren't like spam or offensive flags that can be handled instantly in many cases.
It's better to use the right flag reason and not worry about how long it will take to handle.

10:14 PM
@JonEricson Mhhmm ... the last case made/makes me headache, I flagged other since I did not see it obvious and another post as spam (hoping both flags would seen together) the spam was handled useful but the other posts stood unhandled. Thinking no one would have seen the other I flagged another one as spam, this one got declined. Obviously I did take the wrong decision, since this moment I'm a kind of insecure in my decisions ...

@bummi Yeah. The spam flag should be used for really obvious spam. If you use it for marginal stuff there's a greater chance it will be declined since spam flags are more destructive than others. Some moderators go through flags by category, so you can't count on flags being handled in chronological order.

@JonEricson Ok, thank you, I really hope that we get the comments for spam flags, this would solve many of those issues.

10:31 PM
if (post.contains("viagra")) flag("spam"); else flag("unclear");

@SterlingArcher seems to little for me

uhh, phrasing?

sorry

Bill wins!

Yay for Bill :)

welp! Meta is dead

Yep, was about to ask if it just went down for everyone else.

But no diamond. :(

> Meta Stack Overflow is currently offline for maintenance

WHO BROKE IT?!
Just 12 hours without a cluster failure or a DDoS attack, that's all I'm asking for. Dear attackers, can we pick this up tomorrow? Thanks.
nope
heh, it's badp's fault.

10:48 PM
!!/blame

@AlexisKing It's Braiam's fault.

:O
No wonder he was so quick to comment about it!
...aaand Meta's back.

the reason why meta went into maintenance? they were testing if the logo was right

@Braiam answer: it wasn't

Any willing testers to see if this bug was fixed? cough @nicael cough

11:01 PM
@hichris123 I'm on high-DPI, so I'm probably not a good person to check.

You could low-DPIify it. ;)

@Braiam Yeah, I assume the SVG doesn't carry that over... but who knows.
I don't feel like testing it. :P

No, it's about SOTV.

user259867
But yes, 4 out of top 5 answers on meta are about SO being ruined by someone, possibly including SE management.

Oh really?
Oh, the negativity one is #8...

I'm having a headache (probably fault of the weather here) so, yeah...

Go fix my access violation then, @Braiam. ;)

11:22 PM
@Braiam I entered my zip code and saw 24°. Made me do a double take before I realized it was Celsius :p
