Are we allowed to have pure fun on MSO?

user163250
Number 1 seemed like pure fun, but considering how well number 2 was received, maybe we should bring number 1 back?

@Cupcake that one is very serious

The second one is just pretty poorly tagged. I couldn't think of better tags for it, but I don't really think it falls into the category of fun.
I was just removing the facts tag because it was newly created and probably the worst one out of them all.

8:03 PM
perhaps?

user163250
Hmmmm, ok.

user163250
Wow, someone finally managed to answer this:

A: How to use git-replace to replace the tree of a commit

rajeshwerkushwahaUsing $ git replace is not recommended thing but if its necessary then you can do this using following steps. Step1: Go to the branch which you want to replace. $ git checkout <your_branch_name> Step2: Run the following command and get the SHA-1 of the replacement commit and replace commit. R...

user163250
I've been wanting to answer that myself, but I needed to learn more Git plumbing first.

user163250
If the answer is correct, this guy beat me to it :P

8:12 PM
Is git replace not a nightmare for configuration management. You rewrite history, right?

bye @TGMCians

@TGMCians "Programmers code in their own batcave." They get batcaves?!

Hi to any mods -- I think meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/266407/… this post needs some intervention. The JavaScript chat room muted a troll, and he hasn't left the chat, saying we're ganging up on him (via meta comments) and we're conspiring to get the mods on our side. A simple moderator post would help a lot (whether he's right or wrong) (and I'm partly to blame here has well) as the question is just a mess

@SterlingArcher well, a lifetime mute isn't particularly nice, even despite prior offenses

8:20 PM
@JanDvorak agreed there
I didn't mute, and I tried so hard not to get involved, but every 5 minutes it's something else. So I'm just trying to end it
Which is basically me feeding the troll (dumb move) so now I'm hoping a blue person will help end it.

@SterlingArcher holy comment shitstorm Batman

Yeah, you said it.
conspiracies, and reputation authority... I just want this done so that I can stop seeing it in the JS chat D:
Icing on the cake: a mafia reference!
"And most of you are related, the same way people are related in criminal organizations?"
Mods, please handle him, or handle us, or whoever is in the wrong. I just wanna go back to not having somebody ping us from other rooms all day
Thanks for your time. Bye!
<3

8:36 PM
@SterlingArcher No Godwin yet though. This conversation can keep going. No one has won yet.

Sigh, okay @Andy, let me go in and finish it then.

8:54 PM
... okay, who's playing with the notification bar?

A developer is trolling us...

hardi-har.

The wheel of blame points at Jeff ....

I don't know, balpha has been working on chat things today...

Don't blame me for this

8:56 PM
Too late
Blaming you so hard

It's settled. Balpha it is.

Who is Balpha, @barT? I only see balpha.

"PLEASE IGNORE ANY GLOBAL MESSAGES FROM CHAT. We are investigating the possibility that it has become unexpectedly sentient."

Let's just say I regret telling a certain someone how to announce chat downtime

@ShadowWizard the new and improved balpha bot

8:59 PM
@MarcGravell FWIW, he already knew how it worked :)

It would be awesome to be a Stack developer

@balpha "Unexpectedly," huh? Like this wasn't your plan all along.

@MarcGravell like giving a shiny toy to an eager child. In case of my son it usually ends with a broken toy.

Hoping chat notifications automatically go away after X period of time.
That would rock

9:06 PM
Does this room have a chatbot?

Yes...

There's still a bot running @rene? Manishbot?

Err, could you elaborate?

We had several bots to notify us of network-wide spam at some point @SterlingArcher
Now we have @JanDvorak

@Bart oh, sorry my mind was on a different kind of bot (like the JavaScript room runs)

9:09 PM
The bot here is very smart. It constantly tries to point at others for being a bot.

@rene is a bot for example.

Somehow a lot of the bot messages get starred...

I shall change my username to Starbot
But no, we do all our "welcoming" ourselves @SterlingArcher.

And morning trains...

Only the evil survive
Ah true, morning trains

9:11 PM
@Bart but how do you google things?! In a new tab? That's so caveman age.
:P
People need to know what you're googling.

I don't Google. I know.
6

There you go

Well played, sir.

A long time ago before Single Page Applications become popular you could have tabs. Some of the Mammoths in this room still use tabs and multiple windows....
So they Google in another tab...or do other stuff in other windows...very old-fashioned..

If you give that an "epic tone" in your head, you could start a good saga off with that post.

9:19 PM
@SterlingArcher there was my hello bot, I can always put it back :D

Well, I don't want to bother the regulars :P But I'd love so see the source if it's open source?

Geez, stop bothering the regulars.

Success!!! Made my first step toward a wonderful script

I call it a day...

Cya @rene

9:23 PM
@SterlingArcher my hello bot? It's pure JavaScript

I love javascript.
:O

@ShadowWizard Does it do evil?

@Bart evil is its second name

should we test how many @rene chat notifications could show up in his inbox?

First name, Dr.

9:25 PM
maybe @rene could find a bug, and have a new question to ask on meta!!! FTW!

let's see first if it's still working...

Hmm, it's getting dark in here all of a sudden

oops, it was before split. let me fix...
Hello Shadow of the Shadow!
yup working
Just copy and paste the following code to the JS console and it's active
var previousUser = "";
var myself = $("#active-user").find("img").first().attr("title");
var userMapping = {};
var timer = window.setInterval(function() {
    var recentUser = $(".sidebar-widget .present-user").first().find(".avatar").find("img").attr("title");
    if (recentUser != myself) {
        if (previousUser != recentUser) {
            if (userMapping[recentUser]) {
                console.log("first seen in " + userMapping[recentUser]);
            } else {
                console.log(recentUser + " joined in " + (new Date()).toString());

@SterlingArcher ;( What, you mean our bots aren't anywhere near annoying and intrusive enough?

Hello bjb568!

9:31 PM
Hi.

@bjb568 intrusive?

Hello Sterling Archer!

@SterlingArcher Caprica? Yeah.

I might have a different definition of intrusive. Mind explaining?

Well, it's not asking or suggesting anything just greeting
if 10 users will have it active in the same time it can create nice hello trains ;)

9:33 PM
@ShadowWizard I might try and convert your bot into native JS, if that's ok with you?
I do love running trains on things...

@SterlingArcher sure, do whatever you want with it :-)

@SterlingArcher Railroad tracks, groups of small children, kittens, ...
2

@bjb568 eh, that's user prompted.

@SterlingArcher So either remove the user, the prompt, or the bot.
(personally I think the JS room is crappy, so all 3)

9:37 PM
Or... not?
@ShadowWizard thanks!
@Bart mostly kittens, but yes.

:O

9:48 PM
Hello Doorknob!

No need to greet everyone...
What's wrong with this answer? meta.stackoverflow.com/a/261161/2888561

@bjb568 wall of screenshots without explanation, from quick look

Hello Jan Dvorak!

Hello Dr. Dvorak!

9:53 PM
Hello Vote to Close!

hello

Hello Meta!

Hello Master Wizard!

@ShadowWizard Meh, other people said what I said. Deleted it.

Hello Kitty!

9:56 PM
@VotetoClose umm, your bot is misbehaving ;)

@ShadowWizard no, you need to program your bots to handle the kinks in my bot

10:26 PM
Hello jadarnel27!

@ShadowWizard Haha, are we doing this scripted greeting thing again? =)
I mean, hello!

@jadarnel27 someone asked about bots here so I brought it back from the dead ;)
that said, shutting it down now

Nice.

i flagged some asnwer (don't remember what it is now) as "not an answer" but it was declined, however later that answer was actually deleted, why? stackoverflow.com/questions/157463/…

It was converted to a comment by a different mod.

ah i remmeber this one

user163250
this is really a very bad hack and could potentially introduce a lot of problems, I'd never manually delete the .git index and manipulate things behind the scenes with brute force like that if I actually care about my source... — Gregor Jul 9 '13 at 9:48

user163250
How could that introduce other problems? It's just that you completely reinitialize the whole repository. You don't manipulate things behind the scenes. You delete the whole git folder, and create a fresh repository - that's it. — Christoph Jul 9 '13 at 12:13

user163250
yes but that's a bit overdoing it just for reaching the desired effect, isn't it? — Gregor Jul 18 '13 at 11:54

user163250
you think? Look at all the other solutions. This one is a 3-liner :) — Christoph Jul 18 '13 at 13:48

user163250
Using git rebase -i --root is a 1-liner, and it has been available since Git version 1.7.12. — Cupcake Jun 5 at 13:44

user163250
11:32 PM
yep, this answer was added before --root was available. — Christoph Jun 5 at 16:40

user163250
@Christoph Git version 1.7.12 was created on August 19th, 2012, about 2 months before this answer was posted. Additionally, this answer effectively squashes all commits, not just the first two. — Cupcake 4 mins ago
