@VotetoClose awkward.

user163250
Is it too early to post about Stack Overflow Academy on MSO?

dang, why does Shog use a different pic on every site? this isn't facebook

I don't

I see. You don't. Just the sites you have > 1500 rep

user163250
5:11 AM
I find Shog's disembodied head on MSE to be slightly disturbing.

user163250

yer pretty too, cupcake

user163250
Then again, he looks pretty shady on MSO:

there's a beautiful view of the Mississippi in the background there, but it got kinda washed out

5:15 AM
I use different pics on some different sites.

mmm I'm a bit tired so I'm not positive...
But did the question list subnav links go from normal to bold just now?
DID SOMEONE FATTEN MY CHEESE?

I actually wanted to start a personal project to buy different props, hats, and outfits to take pictures that would be specific to every site on the network.

@TimStone the tabs? No.

@animuson SE doesn't even do that until the site graduates

Some of them could be tough, but it would be fun!

5:18 AM
@Shog9 They were always bold on MSE?

I wonder how much a chef's hat costs...

The ones on the user page are not bold so I'm skeptical.

they're not bold on MSE either. what are you looking at? pics or it didn't happen...

I wouldn't know. I've been using so much custom CSS on Stack Overflow that I probably wouldn't even be affected by some changes.

font-weight: 600 ... somewhat stronger than normal

5:20 AM
Indeed

Can I get one that says Stack Exchange?

Signed by the Stack Chefs, even.

Ooooo picture of the SE diamond hat for the Moderators site.

@TimStone interesting, those look waaay bolder in Firefox than in Chrome

5:23 AM
Screenshot is from Chrome dev

UNSUPPORTED BROWSER

I LIKE LIVING DANGEROUSLY

no idea what's up with that then. going to bed before stuff randomly turns bold.

In the morning you'll wake up to the sweet smell of bacon, only to have your hopes dashed as you find out Jin has eaten it all staying up all night randomly bolding things.

Does the NY Stack Exchange office really have its own chef?

@Cupcake two of 'em

Morning!

Whoa. Hi, @TimStone!
I don't really have anything important to say, it's just been a while since I've seen you.

For some reason I've been doing work, or something.
It's weird.
I think I might be unwell.
Also: Hello to you as well!

7:12 AM
@VotetoClose only 3 (from this room...)

Way to go TeX, destroying that one before I got there.

Hallo c-c-c-c-c-combo-breaker

nah, train expired so no worry

in Shadow's Den, 2 mins ago, by DroidDev
can somebody give me a link to download a desktop widget for weather in linux

Can't you simply look out the window?

rene, sharp as always :D

aww, I missed the train :(

8:26 AM
@rene lol, I am a programmer, don't expect things from me, which include to look at something that is not a computer screen

aww, I missed the train :(

@rene What if he is in a submarine? What if he is an astronaut and currently he is writing from some orbital space station?

@SPArchaeologist or I am playing beta version of Crew (or any other game)

@SPArchaeologist Why bother about the weather in that case?

8:28 AM
@rene's logic is infallible

@rene maybe he wonders what his unicorn may be doing? like sledding or surf boarding?

@Stijn I might wanna see, how my garden is doing

@rene You don't want to conduct your nuclear bombing test when it is raining, right? It would ruin your pretty atomic mushroom.

@SPArchaeologist won't the heat from explosion evaporate all the water anyway?

8:32 AM
@DroidDev Your garden is just doing fine, whatever the weather. Nature has proven this for the last couple of million years...
@JanDvorak too late :(

@rene Indian summers are too hot for anything. We have to water plants daily. In my case, I might have to ask someone to water them

@JanDvorak old spam, how did your script find it just now?

@Stijn Tell that to the XSLT transformation I'm currently working on....

@DroidDev so primitive. Build an automated system that will do it.

8:34 AM
@ShadowWizard Cold fusion atomic bomb! all the fun of an atomic bomb but without the heat. Order your today!

@JanDvorak yay, nuked by a dev!

First 10 callers get a free Geiger counter included in the price

@SPArchaeologist hmm.... but all the energy must go somewhere, isn't there a rule that unused energy becomes heat?

@SPArchaeologist Kind of useless device.... all is fine, just background noise ... oh wait, what?....HALP ...........................

@ShadowWizard You are right. Unused energy becomes heat... But here at the Acme labs we use the power of science to use that energy to bake rainbow cupcakes.

8:38 AM
I almost feel sorry this was deleted so fast. It could easily break the downvote record.

@ShadowWizard I'd rather by a new laptop and let my plants die :P

@SPArchaeologist ohhh, now it's all clear!
@DroidDev but you can sell the system and become rich! :D

@ShadowWizard or I can rather find the link to widget for weather on linux myself(which everyone forgot about) and go back to work :P

@DroidDev Go Google!

1. Your teacher is clueless — Bart 11 mins ago

10:09 AM
... I want to know who to blame for the mocking message you get in SharePoint when you perform a long operation: "This shouldn't take long."

You posted this exact same question on Stack Overflow. Why did you cross-post and why on Meta, where it is off-topic? — Oded ♦ 6 mins ago
Chances for Oded to get a response: 0.00000000000000000001%

That OP probably goes: Ooops, interaction....

10:42 AM
I simply must try and play Dwarf Fortress
"Thanks to the detailed simulation and Wide Open Sandbox nature of Dwarf Fortress, it's completely possible, even with a vanilla version, to use quickly reproducing non-pasture animals such as turkeys or peafowl as an infinite source of ammunition to blast off lava cannons onto enemy hordes. The trick is to set the ammo on fire prior to launch."

@SPArchaeologist That is still better than the 'Loading..' with an animated gif that I get when the javascript is borked. User: No, don't touch it, it is still loading, look at the picture, it is moving so it is getting data... /me facepalm

@Oded those users are usually clueless to begin with, IMO we just better delete those things on spot. But kudos for trying! :)

On the off chance of them answering, we may get a clue of where they got to the site from... and try to eliminate that path ;)

@Oded noble goal, you really deserve a badge for that. Should I start a feature request asking to add new badge? :D

:-p

10:53 AM
@rene wanna trade with my users? "hmm, that gif has been spinning for 2 seconds, better click that button another 10 times"

You are up in the north, right? All the trouble effect you at all, @Sha?

nope, what led you to this wrong assumption? Need to eliminate this path. :-P
(I'm from Ramat Ha Sharon so compared to others, in a good shape :))

@Stijn Hmmm, maybe designate a place near the south-pole for those kind of users and organize a one-way flight for them? Must be possible to arrange a charter flight for that...

@ShadowWizard probably thinking of someone else... Good to know you are out of it.

@Oded thanks, nobody is really out of it (well, except those (cough) living abroad ;)) but so far so good. Could be much worse.

11:00 AM
Yeah, I know... one of our devs is in Yad Binyamin. Working out of the mamad

And back to sanity, @Oded, can you check if code prettify is enabled on MSE? There is possible vulnerability on Stack Overflow that can't be reproduced on the sandbox meta.stackexchange.com/a/236983/152859
@Oded yeah, think I know who you mean. Not a nice situation.

@ShadowWizard Yeah, saw that C++ thing. And yes, it is turned on on MSE. Though it may depend on specific question tags and settings.

@Oded Weird, but since it's preventing users and even mods from editing, think it better be addressed. Who is on bug watch? :)

I am. And am working on it. That is, if people stop bothering me ;)

@Oded lol ;) (Shadow, out :))

11:22 AM
Isn't a new passport a lovely way to spend 250 euros? Yay! .... grrr

@Bart what happened to your old passport? Eaten by a unicorn? ;)

:D Nah, expired

11:37 AM
@Bart wow, in Israel it cost 55 euro only

Today's Listening chipocrite.bandcamp.com
gotta run sorry

wonder what they're doing with all this money you give them??
Wait... passport... Bart... do you plan running away from us? :D

@ShadowWizard Well, it was 165 francs for the passport (because it's at the embassy in a foreign country) + 100 francs for the train + 25 francs for photos + 25 francs for a document stating I really live in Geneva ... gets expensive fast.

@Bart oh, that makes more sense. So you're living in foreign country and stuck with expired passport?

11:40 AM
Yep @ShadowWizard. And I have clients in Italy, so I need a valid passport

@Bart so charge the company for those expanses, if you didn't already :)
unless you're self employed in which case... bummer

At least this one will be valid for the next 10 years and not just 5 like the previous one.

12:01 PM
@Bart good for you! Next is the driver license then, I guess? ;)

@JanDvorak long dead, or so it looks like :(

@ShadowWizard :D That doesn't expire luckily

@Bart eh? really?!
here it's 10 years, me thinks

At least nothing is stated on the license @ShadowWizard :)
And I don't have a car

12:05 PM
hmm...
The European driving licence is a driving licence replacing the many driving licence styles already in use in the member states of the European Economic Area (European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). It has the credit card-style with a photograph and possibly a microchip. They were introduced to replace the 110 different plastic and paper driving licences of the 300 million drivers in the EEA. The main objective of the licence is to decrease the risk of fraud. == History == === Pre-1996 European driving licence === The first step to a European driving licence was taken on 4 D...
Looks like those do expire at some point
> a) date of issue, b) date of expiry, c) issuing authority, d) personal numberb
So, @Bart, did you hack your way to get a non expiring license? ;)

@JanDvorak ManishBot is dead for some time, because Undo has created a new version of SmokeDetector, and this is currently only active in Charcoal HQ and TL.

@ShadowWizard Check the section for Switzerland. I have a full unlimited license. Section 4b contains nothing but stars for me. No expiry. :)

@Undo Could you also make you SmokeDetector available here?

wow, you're a lucky man, @Bart!

I just stay out of trouble in traffic @ShadowWizard ... which is trivial if you don't have a car
Such a great driver ...

12:09 PM
my paper drivers license doesn't expire but we're slowly replacing them with chip cards and I think that one will expire after x years

user163250
@sanmai then your question is very unclear. So you want to squash commits that are just in the middle, but you don't want to squash your first X commits, and you don't want to squash the last Y commits either? What do first and last mean to you? You can clear up a lot of confusion if you include a picture. Your "most recent" commits are not your "first commits", they're your last commits, if you start from the root/initial commit in your history.Cupcake 6 mins ago

@Bart they refuse to be diapered
Anyway, for whoever see this and can/wants to handle this is the troll

@Oded cool, thanks!

No longer. Nuclear winter more like it, for that user.

@Oded hmm... how come this question isn't auto protected yet?

12:41 PM
@sanmai this is a duplicate. The question Combine the first two commits of a Git repository? does exactly what you're asking for. This solution doesn't involve using an interactive rebase, just like what you asked for in your question. — Cupcake 14 mins ago

user163250
@Cupcake the other question is about --root option for git-rebase, so this question is not the same question, hence it is not a duplicate. — sanmai 5 mins ago

user163250
@sanmai I pointed out a solution to you in my last comment that does not use an interactive rebase, thus making it automatic, which is exactly what you asked for. Nor does it use the --root flag, but that's kind of irrelevant. This is a duplicate. Do you really want to argue with someone who has a gold badge in Git? — Cupcake 1 min ago

user163250
The frustration continues :P

user163250
I think he just downvoted my answer out of spite too :P

@Cupcake might be, the sting will pass over time. Best leave this alone, unless you'll go Laszlo on us :D

12:52 PM
@Braiam Let me go have a look
@Braiam Done.

yay!

user163250
Even with all the editing, it's still just a duplicate.

user163250
Shoot, I can't delete that.

user163250
I take it back.

@Cupcake you have a gold badge, you should be able to close it yourself, no?

user163250
I close voted it as unclear a long time ago, but then the OP fixed his question...sort of.

user163250
1:19 PM
So I can't one-shot it anymore.

aha
do you still want it closed or can it stay open (I'm confused by your last couple messages)

user163250
Ok, definitely close as duplicate.

user163250
@Stijn thanks.

@Cupcake yw
Do you bake cupcakes too, or just eat them?

1:33 PM
... i'am exhausted.
Just fixed a bug
by manually launching a set of update statement
on sharepoint config db

Ah, the db that should not be touched...ever...

@rene yep, that one. The same db that will contain orphaned items if you dare to follow Ms documentation about web config modification management.
Seems that in season 5 of MLP (renamed My Little Devs) Twilight will become a SharePoint developer. It will be then explained that the whole panic around the Evergreen forest started because the local farm db server rack is hosted there....

Dare I ask, why do people develop for SP? I see multiple users here "complaining" about SP regularly, and I know of a 2 year SP project that was rewritten from scratch to ASP.NET MVC because it became unmaintainable.

Because developers don't decide on using SP. Managers do.

1:49 PM
@Stijn SharePoint OOPA. When I will finally contact the Angry Video Game Nerd and become the Angry SharePoint Dev I will make a movie out of it
he made an ET parody, I will go for an Indiana Jones one.
OOPA - normally stands for Out Of Place Artifact
in my case it is the acronym of something I myself inventend
Out Of Place Application

@Stijn your project was an OOPA. Basically an app that takes no advantage from begin developed on the SharePoint platform.
and is developed that way only because some manager/reseller wanted to make money on a SharePoint license.

@SPArchaeologist I see. I wasn't personally involved in the project, just another team at the company I was working for.

see my profile on SharePoint

it's not unusual...

I was trying to reply on @Cupcake message.

user163250
So I did not know this because I've been staring at the old, outdated kernel.org version of the Git documentation for years, but the newest versions of the documentation actually explicitly endorse The BFG Repo-Cleaner.

Cupcake : do you use bitbucket (git) ?

user163250
@TGMCians thanks. That question is just messed up in so many different ways, but whatever. I reopened it, and now everyone should just walk away and hopefully never look at that thing ever again.

user163250
2:48 PM
@TGMCians I do use Bitbucket, but only for their free private repo hosting.

user163250
Otherwise, I prefer GitHub like everyone else.

yes I also bcz of free private repository
I used to use svn earlier but recently started to use bitbucket

I hate how messed up the rendering and formatting of the Git SCM docs can be sometimes:

user163250
Considering that it's now the most up-to-date online version of the Git documentation (not to mention one of the most popular), you would think they would have improved it to be more readable and less broken by now.

user163250
I can't wait for this bounty to be over: stackoverflow.com/questions/462974/…

user163250
I hate the bounty message that I put on it.

user163250
I think directly promoting your own answer is OK as long as you do it tastefully. Personally, I'd rather just use comments, but the disadvantage of comments is that only those who will be notified of the comments will see them immediately, and anyone else who might happen to come across the question. — BoltClock ♦ 2 days ago

user163250
I'm not surprised.

I don't trust WoT anymore

> Not a scam; but not really worth paying for. I tried the free trial. Not what I would consider "bad" but during my free trial (which I used almost daily) it gave me nothing an extra moment or two on Google wouldn't give me. Also I haven't had any spamming due to this site.

user163250
Is it because of the W3Schools rating?

6:17 PM
that's one cause

user163250
I'm convinced that those are doctored.

@JanDvorak it's a great tool, but it can be misused (w3schools)

@ColeJohnson it's not

It's problem is people mainly only vote bad on scam sites (where it prompts you that this is a bad site)
What would work for me is if, when I visit a new domain, it prompts for my rating. Then I'd rate more

references leave out crucial information, tutorials leave out crucial warnings, terrible methods in examples, terrible indentation in examples, generally terrible code in examples...

6:22 PM
W3schools was great for learning HTML4 years ago (somewhere around 5 to 7 for me) when HTML5 was almost nonexistent. That's actually what got me started on web design. Their HTML and CSS tutorials. I tried learning JavaScript using their tutorials and got the basics (functions and stuff), but I ultimately just threw it out and learned the way I learned programming (have a problem? Google it)

That's the problem. You have to throw out everything you got from w3schools before you can become a decent programmer

Code -> get stuck -> google -> open first SO result -> apply -> repeat
works for me ;)

and I'm not at all convinced they didn't suck horribly back then

@Undo except there was no SO 7 years ago ;)

oh true
you could have built it

6:24 PM
At 10? Please

My best program was a Fibonacci calculator using Java. And I didn't even know about arrays then. So I had literally 100 variables like: long one = 1; long two = 1; long three = one + two; ... long onehundred = ninetyeight + ninetynine; followed by an input for how many they want followed by switch (input) { case 100: SOP(onehundred); case 99: SOP(ninetynine); ... }
That's right. It printed every Fibonacci number from F_input to F_1

ew
was that what W3S taught you?

No. It was my first program
My brother was taking a Java course in college and I thought it was cool that not just big businesses to make programs. So he taught me the basics (everything except arrays) of Java 5 and I went forth
I never learned Java from W3S
Every bit of programming was from "I have a problem, and I bet Google can answer it"

I mostly learned from just typing things in and seeing what happened.
"What does this value do?"

6:31 PM
That happened a lot also, but Google is there for things I don't get.
Is there a scientific name for falling in love with a website's community? :p

@Szabolcs I'll update it tomorrow, thanks! /cc @TimStone
