It's just an Stack Overflow thing though, because MSO tag scores still update daily just fine.

Why does the dogs face remind me of...

@GnomeSlice Lawl, Pretty Lights.

5:21 PM
@JasonC Why lawl?

user163250

@GnomeSlice Because he forgets to add #pretentious and #attention_whore to his SoundCloud tracks.

Pretty Lights is the shit
what you talking about

Do you like Bassnectar?

I've only heard like one track of his I really liked.
Haven't heard much of his stuff though.

5:23 PM
I was going to make fun of you if you did. In a friendly way.

That track is dope.
Everything else I've heard by him is kinda meh

@GnomeSlice The guy just jumped onto that stupid "high vibe" trend bandwagon with everybody else a few years ago.
Around the time that weird west coast overpriced-hippy-elf-festival fashion trend set in, which has a name that isn't worth remembering.

@GnomeSlice my favorite Bassnectar song youtube.com/watch?v=tvguv-lvq3k

@JasonC I don't really know what you're talking about I guess. For a long time, Pretty Lights was my favourite artist.
@SterlingArcher meh. It's okay, but eh.

Well, I'm not really a dubstep fan anymore and I wasn't big on this artist, but I like this song

I would almost call that trap, not dubstep

lol the cover pic title...

5:31 PM
@GnomeSlice He didn't even get on the scene until like 2007 and just bit off a bunch of trendy styles at the time. Pretty Lights is to festival elf as dude with tight jeans and a trucker hat is to hipster.
Lawl, trap.

This is a pretty good example of what I've been listening to a lot of lately: music.gravitasrecordings.com/album/transcension
although pretty much nobody else has that style

"Pretty much nobody else has that style" -- this ought'a be good. Let's see.
Ulrich Schnauss, Tycho, the list goes on
I have three entire Pandora channels dedicated to that style and I assure you it is not unique

Tycho is awesome
nervous_tespilot isn't really much like Tycho

Brb
Plaid then sometimes, and Eskmo sometimes, and Bonobo sometimes
Nobody is unique; you'll always find a preexisting similar style.
NOW brb.

@JasonC Heh, Plaid. He just won a plaid remix contest

Anyway, I guess you're right.
@JasonC Who's your favourite artist at the moment?
I'd probably go Rameses B

5:53 PM
@GnomeSlice I have a lot of favorites; my recent playlists have been mostly Prefuse 73, Aesop Rock, Dabrye, Eliot Lipp, etc.

@GnomeSlice When I have time to put together mixes again I'm totally going to give your today's listening lists some competition.

:)
It's not a contest.
You make mixes?

It is if you're an over-competitive douchebag such as myself.

6:00 PM
I tried to get into music production for a while and then decided I'd rather just listen
For the month of august I was actually planning on just using mixes for daily listening

Sometimes I do. I used to do production a long time ago but it was more a bunch of kids in high school having fun in our parents' basements in the boonies and never anything worth listening to again. But I haven't had much time for anything but listening in a long time :(

I took a couple audio courses
didn't learn much
surprisingly didn't find it very interesting

Actually in the late 90's making electronic music was kinda really fun, because not a lot of software existed yet and computers were just starting to become an instrument. So there was a lot of really unique programming and DIY hardware at the time.
I'm sure it's fun now too for other reasons, but that's what I remember.
And analog synthesizers were still in production, and digital, and the dawn of software, so there was a huge variety of things happening. Same with general sequencing and arrangement.

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: GEOMETRY HEEELLPPP!!! on math.stackexchange.com

@GnomeSlice There's a great organization in NYC called Dubspot that offers lots of training courses that cover a whole range of stuff. I really want to start teaching a software synthesis and effect design and programming course there.
They are missing that. They have a great hardware synth design course though. And Ableton classes, studio production, audio engineering, all kinds of stuff.

6:09 PM
Complicated shit.
My mother still wants me to get into music

I think Dubspot is going to or just recently has opened west coast classrooms too, maybe LA or SD or SF, can't remember.

Neat.
My dad bought all kinds of equipment from his friend who is into music stuff because he wanted me to get into it
and I pretty much never touched any of it
I feel bad, but I mean, just not interested.

@GnomeSlice Anything good?

Yeah
he has like a Korg Radias
uh
An MV 8800

Oh sweet

6:15 PM
He's gonna sell it all
I guess he's really disappointed
oh well
I don't even live there any more

Is he a musician himself?

No.
He has a friend who buys a lot of expensive shit and he had a ton of music equipment
he got it for me
because my parents wanted me to get into music
I mostly just play video games

Gaming is an equally valid hobby

you don't improve any skills with gaming

What
Dude

6:18 PM
it's like my other friend has gotten into art
like drawing
he's been at it for months now
he's getting fucking good
he gave me like a sketchbook and wanted me to do it with him

Coordination, reflexes, problem solving, logical thinking, object visualization, imagination, the list goes on
A lot of mental skills
If I go too long (like months or years) without setting aside time to play video games, my brain stops working, even my programming, which I do professionally, suffers noticeably, and my imagination and humor suffers too. It's very noticeable.
Not that my humor ever doesn't suffer.

I just got a minimum wage job lol
I graduated from college like a year and a half ago and haven't done anything with it.
I should have worked first.
Gonna have to go back
Didn't learn a whole lot

Whatever you're too young to be making any conclusions about what path your life will take (so am I) so just roll with it.

I'm 22

But I do think gaming is worthwhile, balanced with other things if not just for health reasons, I believe it exercises a lot of mental pathways that otherwise wouldn't get much chance to develop.
I'm 30... uh
does math
33
I think
Yes, I'll be 34 in a couple of weeks
I'm 3 months older than Pretty Lights, lol.

6:29 PM
This is the kind of shit I thought I wanted to do after I graduated:
Still kind of want to do it, but not right away I guess
Doesn't help that there's no work in motion graphics where I live
Well there's one, but I did my internship there and I must have done something wrong because they won't even let me use them as a reference for my resumé
So that's out

@jadarnel27 I've seen more

Did that include FILEs?

just hundreds of text inputs

there was a javascript-based navigation and collapsing/expanding, but it was still way too slow

Actually I made that last part up, but it was inspired by dozens of bug reports I've filed for Borland / CodeGear / Embarcardero products over the years, and I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

Actually, I take it back.

for the record... unexpected $end, expecting kEND means it expected an END keyword, but it found the end of file instead. unexpected kEND, expecting $end on the other hand means you have one END keyword too many.

Good thing they didn't fall into the common trap of calling it EOF, because you wouldn't want anybody to immediately understand it without Googling it first, would you.

@Braiam I actually did get that linker error with the Borland linker once; but it would be difficult to dig up the bug report. I simplified it for chat; there were some codes and additional description. I don't remember now but I believe it was a linker crash related to the number of functions defined in an object file.

Just check/double check that CV-pls from me isn't SPAM, is it?
