@JourneymanGeek I can’t see it.

good :S

1:49 PM
Just wondering.
Probably any diamond mod - even no-longer ones - can answer.
Does the site have any gimmick in place to automatically escalate flags raised against volunteer-level mods?
generic question, nothing happened.
I was just wondering if a potential new users that wanted to flag a moderator reply and doesn't know about "contact us" (or an older user that knows that that address feeds directly in the shredder.exe process ^_^') would just end up flagging the post for the culprit to see and dismiss

Yes, any mod can see all flags, so also ones on their own posts and such. Those flags are supposed to be handled by anyone other than the mod they're about though, and as far as I know, that's also what happens.

@Tinkeringbell I was hoping they would be escalated to an employee, but I guess that was to be expected.

I think a regular flag would be the wrong way to go for that type of scenario. The best way would be to use Contact Support, and write a detailed (but not long or ranty) message with links etc. .

Depends on "what went wrong".

@ElementsInSpace I know, I was just wondering about the experience for a "new" user that doesn't even know the contact us link exists.

2:00 PM
Having it automatic will just flood the staff, many times it can be solved with the other mods. Depends on each case, of course.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda exactly!

Hopefully flags against mods aren't frequent enough to cause a flood. On the opposite hands, one could argue that on smaller sites with 2-3 mods those are mostly friends (see: the "regulars" as some ex employee would call them) with their shared idea about "room culture". Therefore getting any of the remaining two to handle a flag against the first would be no use either.
The correct way would indeed to use the "contact us" button and hope something is actually done (you will never know since any action taken won't be shared), but again, most don't know about the contact button either

@SPArcheon agree about small sites, yeah. But when there are more than three, think better flag and escalate only if there's no response, or the response doesn't make enough sense.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda yea, but those are far past the "my circle of friend site, visitors not welcome" phase, so less likely to get bad moderation in the first place

2:17 PM
@SPArcheon no
Bit there's an unwritten convention to various levels to not handle our own flags
@SPArcheon ideally EVERYONE is friends :D

@SPArcheon That would put the moderators in an unfair situation. They also deserve to be moderated by the community, as everybody else.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact hopefully not by themselves.

@SPArcheon Can moderators not just escalate a flag with the reason "I am incapable of handling this request due to personal connections", etc?

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact if we can't act in a fair, unbiased way, it would make sense to
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact via the contact link :D
ya

@JourneymanGeek Is it that complicated for you to escalate flags?

2:25 PM
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact yup

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact that assume good will. I was strictly thinking about a "worst case" scenario.
What will Average Joe new/not-in-the-loop user do if someone on a new site attacks them and they don't know about the "contact us" option

@SPArcheon Not sure if the site could provide visibility enough to users of an option that would let them appeal declined flags against moderators with a simple button click. Of course, there are situations where the system cannot catch that the flag is about a moderator.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda run, queen, run!

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact If someone made a serious accusation against me or a similar mod.. I think kicking it up to a CM's the prudent choice

2:28 PM
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact Suppose you have "Evil Mod" that harass someone. If that someone raises a flag, Evil Mod sees the flag. It could be useful if the UI had something like "You are raising a flag on a mod message. If you think a moderator is abusing the site, please contact us directly"

if its a flag on my post, then its just a matter of ensuring there's no conflict of interests
@SPArcheon that might discourage small flags
also to an extent would reflect a lack of confidence in the mods to act fairly

@JourneymanGeek You think that. But as @SPA specified, not every moderator may have good intentions. And a moderator can still have misunderstood or misjudged something, and not realize they're in the wrong, and making the wrong choices.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact that would need the entire mod team in cahoots
or alternatively not communicating

@Marco good movie!

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact also healthy meta has people questioning some of our actions

2:33 PM
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda yes, excellent, I love it!

@JourneymanGeek Well, I don't have any examples to use as basis, and it's SPA that brought it up, so I think they know best.

@JourneymanGeek that would just need the 2-3 mods on a small site to protect each other.

@SPA Any particular situation that prompted the question?

@SPArcheon that's all the mods you have :D

a very easy scenario to happen if you believed the old shog rants about smaller site chats thinking they are above the network rules.

2:36 PM
And a sudden inability for anyone to use the contact link

The site isn’t really designed for new users to be able cancel a mod easily. But, the link to Contact is on every page.

and people do/will complain on meta
I think there's a few examples on the SU meta where decisions were reviewed and clarified ;)

Also bear in mind that even in small sites, mods can and do disagree with each other. Ideally, this happens privately and then a consensus is reached and that consensus is what the mod team shows to the userbase, but don't assume that just because a site has few mods, they are all always on the same page.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact none, just wondering.

2:39 PM
I think we're discussing the exception to that.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact so essentially every check and balance breaking down? :D

For instance, on Unix & Linux, where I have been a moderator for almost 10 years now, we have had cases where one of us on the mod team thinks someone else handled something badly. We have very good relations on the team though, so when that happens, we just have a civil discussion. "Hey, I think you did bad here. || Oh, damn, you're right, sorry!" and then we solve it together.

I have a habit of letting the other mods know before I yolo something :D

@JourneymanGeek Think so?

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact which absolutely also exists. I just wanted to clarify that you can also have frank discussions when needed. Obviously, some mod teams are more functional than others.

2:41 PM
You'd have deeper more systemic issues
including no experienced user caring any more

4:33 PM
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda and @PetəíŕdTheSpringWizard: your turn
Don't run

5:32 PM
@Marco ah you play against him too? no envy ;)
@Marco watched another movie with that actor, where he played a man who died on 9/11 and his son go to a self discover journey... really good movie as well, though he's not the main actor there.

points @Shadow at mail

mail @Pet at point

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda hahaha, yes!
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Very cool, but I don't think I watched it, so if you could give me the name of the movie so I can watch it later!

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda missing "some" ;)

5:41 PM
@Marco yeah will look it soon, it's usually different in Hebrew but should find it with some keywords.
@Petəíŕd The Spring Wizard somepoint?

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda nice, thanks, I will search for it too!

@Marco found it.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a 2011 American drama film directed by Stephen Daldry and written by Eric Roth. Based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Jonathan Safran Foer, it stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Horn in his film debut, Max von Sydow, Viola Davis, John Goodman, Jeffrey Wright, and Zoe Caldwell in her final film role. Production took place in New York City. The film had a limited release in the United States on December 25, 2011 by Warner Bros. Pictures, and a wide release on January 20, 2012, grossing over $55 million. Despite mixed reviews, the film was nominated...

Nice!!!
Thanksss

Usually the movies I watch late night on TV are crappy, but that one was really nice.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda haha

Do you have video game?

@Marco these days I play only one, Final Fantasy 14.
Used to play a lot...

Nice, so do you have a PS5?

@Marco 4
If/when I'll want to play newer games, I'll probably upgrade to 5, or buy a new gaming PC.
Downside of PS, for me, is lack of keyboard, so hard to communicate with the other players in dungeons.

Ahhh, very good, I only have a Wii haha, I like retrogames more.

5:53 PM
Retro is awesome, but gets boring for me at some point. :/

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Too bad, there are so many accessories but it doesn't have a simple keyboard :(
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda hahaha, really? For me it will take a long time to boring me, I still have thousands of games to complete.

@Marco actually, something I wanted to try is attaching ordinary USB keyboard, it does have USB ports. Dunno why I never tried. lol
@Marco nice! Well when stuck or finishing FF14 might go that way as well.
> You can use a keyboard and mouse on your PS4, but not every game supports it. To use a keyboard and mouse on your PS4, connect them to the USB ports or use Bluetooth. Some companies make keyboards and mouses specifically for the PlayStation
heh, so should be working.

Did you see? I was almost sure it had a keyboard, because there is so much accessories.

@Marco so you played Golden Axe as well?
@Marco the keyboard is generic, yeah. I won't buy one that cost x10 more just because it's specific to PS4, I need it only to write. :)

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda A long time ago, I didn't play much and I didn't complete it.

6:02 PM
So far it was never essential as I don't really like dungeons, but now in high level, might prove more useful.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda oh yes, certainly, I meant in accessories in general, even if it's not official.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I see

@Marco I completed Golden Axe 2, though only the quest, duel was bugged because I got hacked game. :/

haha :(

So might play again on PS, if there's a version.
oh wait no, it was 1.

6:09 PM
Huh! The final boss:
Beat him many times. :P

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Seems strong
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda hmm

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda With Chicken Leg?

@ElementsInSpace haha

@ElementsInSpace LOL! Nope, not in the final battle. Only you, possibly with another player. :)
@Marco he is! Very hard to kill, and when he hits you, he also cast a random spell, causing double damage.

:o

6:17 PM
Think I was never able to kill him with the Warrior. It was most easy with the Dwarf, and hard but possible with the Amazon. (female warrior)

chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/9837562#9837562: store.playstation.com/en-hk/product/… (now with english page, I ended up sending the page in portuguese, sorry :P). @ShadowWizardLoveZelda
@PetəíŕdTheSpringWizard gave up the match?

Bishop-mate... sorry.. @Marco ;)
@Marco ah all good, I just changed the URL to have the English site. ;)
@Marco he's not available after 8-9 pm his time, which was around hour ago.
Dunno if he's going to sleep, but never saw him online after those hours.
My hours are very erratic.
Since we're in same timezone it's easy for me to know his time as well. ;)

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Yeah, but not now haha

@Marco anyway bookmarked the page, might buy it one day. Thanks!
@Marco nice move!

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda ah, nice... I think there's a Golden Axe in the collection, almost for sure!

6:30 PM
gtg dinner

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda ah ok!

@Marco yup, 1, 2, and even 3.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda right
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda haha
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda right
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda nice
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda haha thanks!
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda ok, good dinner!!
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda nice!!!
7 consecutive pings :p

@Marco I'm a busy man :P

@Petəíŕd The Spring Wizard I am too
I think you're afraid to play
Because you will lose

6:39 PM
@Marco bad sportmanship.
Don't think so.

@Petəíŕd The Spring Wizard no!

@Marco I recognize your tricks, you're trying to manipulate me.
So no, stop it.
Not funny.

@Petəíŕd The Spring Wizard what? haha

@Petəíŕd The Spring Wizard @ShadowWizardLoveZelda fix your bot
:p
hahaha

6:42 PM
@Marco I strongly advice you to reconsider your words. End of conversation.

It's all a joke, if you didn't like it, sorry, I won't play with you anymore...

7:00 PM
So, now that SE has announced a new version of "Jobs" it seems like it would be a good idea to keep any questions about it separate from the old "Jobs" product. The easiest way to do that seems like it would be for a moderator to rename the existing to something like "jobs-version-1", or some such. Then, we can move forward with using the for the new feature from SE.
Note: all the old questions should probably also be closed, as "Changes to the system ... have rendered it obsolete."

@Makyen Eh, just label the new ones with ;)

@Tinkeringbell That, indeed, seems like it will be confusing. :(

@Marco Well then stop fooling around for a bit and show some solid uneventful participation for a loooong while. Seems any time you're in here users that are otherwise never a problem end up antagonized.

7:28 PM
@Tinkeringbell Can't I play? Show solid participation? Can you be clearer please?
Please show me what I did wrong to get this lecture. This seems a bit authoritarian to me.
I didn't do anything wrong, so I ask you to please don't treat me badly.
I have no obligation to have any solid participation.
"Seems any time you're in here users that are otherwise never a problem end up antagonized": you are speaking as if I were a frequent offender, please don't speak to me like that anymore.

@Marco thanks! It was good!
@Marco meh, got worse. ;)

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Nice!

@Petəíŕd The Spring Wizard huh! You're here late!

@Tinkeringbell Please do not abuse your authority as moderator/room owner.

@Makyen agree, and maybe worthy of full scale discussion on MSE?

7:36 PM
@Tinkeringbell I hope we have finished it now, otherwise I will be forced to contact SE staff about what you've said to me.

@Marco no abuse here. My advise is just not chatting with Peter for now here, the chess site also has per-game chat - and I do hope you two will get along fine again.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I felt offended, there's no reason for me to be lectured by @Tinkeringbell, I was just joking with @PetəíŕdTheSpringWizard.
I was not rude at any time.
I didn't really understand why @PetəíŕdTheSpringWizard was upset, I was just joking.

@Marco I know, and for what it's worth I think it's just misunderstanding with @Pet - I also don't think you were trying to insult him. But there's also language barrier, and sometimes even IRL friends fight over silly things, so I hope after you both take a while away from each other, things will get back to normal. :)

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda now I'm just upset with @Tinkeringbell, about @PetəíŕdTheSpringWizard I won't talk to him here anymore, at least for a while.
I imagine you know I was just joking with him, I don't know why @PetəíŕdTheSpringWizard was bothered, I even imagine he flagged me, which is why @Tinkeringbell talked to me.
This is weird.

@Marco well, better not ping her - and it's OK to be upset with moderators, but sadly (? ;)) Stack Exchange is a moderated area, where moderators have the last word, even if some won't agree with it. So my advise is... let it go, and try to dodge such bullets in the future.

7:49 PM
I've already finished, but I hope I don't get punished, suspended from the chat again, because then I'll certainly get in touch with SE staff.
Thanks.

!!/coffee finished
Good.

@Makyen I've gone ahead and, effectively, made this tag change on MSO, as well as deleting the old synonyms that pointed to the tag. The difference being that the original tag was [stackoverflow-jobs] and the new name is [stackoverflow-jobs-version-1], while [jobs] and [careers] were synonyms.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I don't object to a full discussion. I'd suggest the tag rename be done in the near future (even if another rename is done later to use a different ultimate name), as delay makes it more work. Currently, it's just renaming the tag, editing a single question (the announcement question needs the new tag), and cleaning up any synonyms. That's, currently, a couple/few minutes work for a mod.

@Makyen agree, so let's hope a mod will do that indeed.
(you can custom flag the announcement asking for that, I guess?)

Either a post or a flag would probably help me remember it one day. Flags on a dedicated post too :P

8:35 PM
Welcome back, @Timur :)
Guess it's about your recent Q&A on Meta?

Grab the popcorn and watch

Nah doubt we'll need that.

But popcorn is good

turning @Marco's popcorn into pop-tarts instead

hmm
nicer
thanks

8:39 PM
Bon Appetite!

delicious

How is Israel? Calmer?

@Marco calm is very relative these days.... but yeah, the Iran conflict is back on low fire.
The biggest threat to our stability, probably existence, is coming from the inside.
As in olden days.... nothing changed. :/

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I see. Good, anyway.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Why?
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda What do you mean?

8:58 PM
to be continued...

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Hi everyone! I just followed one of the links from @Marco that he listed in the comments to this question: What is the evidence that this specific answer is AI-generated? - Meta Stack Overflow.
I did not have any questions. I was pleasantly surprised to find more than a few of the famous SO/SE folks here - good to see you all!
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda You helped me on SO/SE sites on many occasions - thank you again! I noticed from the chat above that you are in Israel (I guess I could have found this also in your profile). I hope you and your family are as safe as can be in these difficult times!

9:14 PM
@TimurShtatland Hi, nice, I hope you enjoyed to find this chat room.

@TimurShtatland Does that mean if we’re here, we’re famous? :D Oh, that’s flawed logic, there…
