00:00 - 17:0017:00 - 00:00

5:00 PM
[].forEach.call(document.getElementsByClassName("box"), function(box){
  [].forEach.call(document.getElementsByClassName("activebox"), function(ab){
    ab.classList.remove("activebox");
  });
  this.classList.add("activebox");
});
.anybox {transition: 0.5s; height: 0}
.activebox {height: auto}
err...

Is [] just a placeholder or does it actually mean something I am not aware about?

[].forEach.call(document.getElementsByClassName("box"), function(box){
  box.addEventListener("click", function(){
    [].forEach.call(document.getElementsByClassName("activebox"), function(ab){
      ab.classList.remove("activebox");
    });
    this.classList.add("activebox");
  });
});
@Sumurai8 [] is an empty array. Useful if you need to call a function that arrays have.
call calls a function with a set context
[].forEach.call(coll, func) is similar to coll.forEach = [].forEach; coll.forEach(func); delete coll.forEach

I see
And you do it this way because getElementsByClassName is not a real array? Or just to write code that seems confusing at first? :P

getElementsByClassName returns an HTMLCollection

Which is iterable, but not an array. I see.

5:16 PM
var els = document.getElementsByClassName('box'), i = els.length, f = function() {
this.classList.remove('active');
};
while(i--) els[i].addEventListener('click', function() {
this.classList.add('active');
this.addEventListener('animationend', f);
this.addEventListener('webkitAnimationEnd', f);
});
.box.active {
animation: up-down 1s;
-webkit-animation: up-down 1s;
}
@keyframes up-down {
50% {
transform: translate(50px, 0);
}
}
@-webkit-keyframes up-down {
50% {
-webkit-transform: translate(50px, 0);
}
}

@bjb568 why use animation for that???

Agh, shouldn't be editing it here.
@JanDvorak It goes up, then down, right?

@bjb568 no. The active one goes up, the clicked one (yes, it's nonsense) goes down

Oh. Oooooh.
Why doesn't the jQuery code is an if statement? Are people too cool for that now?

?

5:22 PM
Do you mean click once and it goes up and adds class, click again and it goes down and removes class?

It more or less is an accordian menu, with at most one active menu slice, closing all other active ones to be closed.

Gah, just make it do that on hover with css :hover.

Although 'slideUp' will make it unclickable probably

Why is the class name "box" then?

@Sumurai8 yeah. that is a problem.

5:25 PM
@bjb568 Does that result in menus you can only navigate from the bottom to the top, and will be horrible when you try to get the right submenu from the top to bottom?
@JanDvorak waves hand There is no problem.

@Sumurai8 yes, but it's js-free

@Sumurai8 Wut?
Aren't we talking about a drop down menu?
Googling finds this: noupe.com/css/…

Acordian menus aren't dropdown menus, right?

Oh, that's why I was confused.

Today's Listening | Classical / Orchestral

5:29 PM
@bjb568 You shall not be confused any longer. You shall be bjb from now on.

@GnomeSlice What do you mean "classical"? How is it any more than an insult to classical music?

What else would you call it?

i guess you can have an accordion drop down menu.

.box{transition: 0.5s)
.collapsed{height: 25px}

var active=null;
[].forEach.call(document.getElementsByClassName("box"), function(box){
  if(active) active.classList.add("collapsed");
  this.classList.remove("collapsed");
  active=this
});

@GnomeSlice Weird modern stuff that happens to use strings.

5:30 PM
Upside: it doesn't bounce if you try to expand an already expanded item.
@GnomeSlice instrumental? modern string?

Can't edit it now. I guess 'orchestral' makes more sense.

orchestral / string

orccchestral / string

if it's just string, then it's instrumental, but not orchestral

Contemporary Orchestral I guess
it's not just strings

5:32 PM
orchestral = has an orchestra
instrumental = doesn't have vocals

I am aware.

I can clearly hear a piano, though.

Is anybody actually going to listen to it or are we just going to keep arguing about it

I am listening to it

We can keep arguing.

5:33 PM
and I'm not even arguing

So is it a string orchestra or a string chamber group?

shrug
It's Alex Roe
it's probably all sampled
Just one guy

I am going to listen to it. Maybe. When I get home.

Yup, sounds fake.

> A mostly orchestral album of emotive music.

5:34 PM
So I say it's weird electronic music.
Anyway, I GTG.

Beethoven is also "just one guy"
Evoke doesn't seem electronic to me
Just a piano + strings
Pretty good, too

Using samples doesn't make it electronic.
@JanDvorak Right? I really like it.
I bought his debut album too: alexroe.bandcamp.com/album/strings-of-time

My keyboard is too loud :-(

huh, looks like it's free now
nice

seems each track is using different instruments. Nice
Yeah... I can definitely hear some electronic samples in Rising Storm.

5:49 PM
@Oded OK, thanks for explaining! :)

Now I see why the SO mods don't want us to focus too much on older questions. There really is plenty of this trash being asked every day.

closed...

@Jamal most of questions that reach my filter from SO should be closed

I still kinda like browsing through Blaze, which does have mostly legitimate posts. It helps improve my treasure-hunting skills.

@Bart yah dude, just b.c u don't care for it, doesn't mean you shouldn't upvote it since many other people do want this in helping them achieve all teh badgez!

Bart wants all the badges...

@VotetoClose Actually, on MSE, not caring for it is a perfect reason to not upvote it.

@VotetoClose I think Bill makes a good point. And if other people do want that, let them upvote.

A: Should the Precognitive badge be listed in the list of S[OFU] badges?

Jeff AtwoodIn addition to Popular Demand's "funny because it is true" comment .. [Precognitive badge] teaches an important lesson to people who try to earn every last badge. The Precognitive badge appears in the badge list on every site to announce the presence of Area 51, and its primary function. S...

Dangit, my clipboard should know the link I meant to copy instead of the one I actually copied.
I wonder what it would take to get the dev team to work on that as a feature request....

Don't hold your breath. My compiler knows what is wrong, but still refuses to fix it. So I don't have high hopes for your links.

Q: Please fix incorrectly closed duplicates of "Reverse each individual word of Hello World string with Java"

CupcakeThe question Reverse each individual word of "Hello World" string with Java has been incorrectly used as a canonical for questions that ask about how to reverse an entire string. For example, reversing the entire string "Hello World" looks like "dlroW olleH" On the other hand, reversing each ...

wow, this guy is calling for removing the whole downvote system meta.stackexchange.com/questions/236885/…

Yeah, so are upvotes...

anyone can explain this comment? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/236871/…

a link to the question, presumably

@AnnaLear but the post was purged from the database... what link I'm supposed to give?

@Braiam you still have it open in your browser...

@AnnaLear you're watching what's in his browser?

9:26 PM
"purged from the database" is probably a bit strong of a phrase to use there
@VotetoClose good god, read his meta post. he said he still has it open.

Unfortunately I cannot comment on the above post, so I am to take it that I shouldn't extend my help because I cannot use the comment feature? — Photekk 47 secs ago

Only Shog has the ability to see what's on other people's screens.

@Cupcake Exactly right! If you can't comment, you can't comment.

@AnnaLear well there you go
@AnnaLear how it's called when you remove the history of a question because "reasons", and soft deleting won't cut it?

user163250
9:29 PM
Shoot, the non-answer was deleted before I could add this comment:

> It takes 2 upvoted accepted answers, or 5 upvoted answers, or 10 upvoted questions, or 25 approved suggested edits to gain the necessary reputation to comment. This system is put into place because many new users abuse the commenting system. With your current rep level, you don't even have to work as hard to earn the commenting privilege.

user163250
Oh well.

@Braiam we typically use the term "destroyed revisions", but most DMCA-type claims are just soft-deleted. In this case, hey, looks like Tim did burn the revision.

Gah, how many questions of a single user can I edit in a row before I get some unwelcome attention from someone?

9:31 PM
@Bart 2. That's the least I've seen. He called me a "stalker", when I just found 2 of hist posts by coincidence within a 30 minutes time span.

Hmm, so the "Let's see if 100 edits gets the point across" wouldn't be a great idea @bjb568 ...

@Cupcake And infinite positive rep if you make a bunch of comments as answers that get down voted. (in reality you get banned tho)

@AnnaLear that's why I used that term, since there was just no way to see what was there

@Bart 100 edits? Rate limiting problems maybe?

@Braiam well, we have backups. =)

9:34 PM
I didn't start yet @bjb568. I just keep bumping into this guy every now and then, and he just doesn't learn.

Anyway, responded on meta.

@AnnaLear Argh.

@AnnaLear drats!

I should've asked if you were typing before I started typing.

user163250
@Bart sounds like reason for a possible suspension.

9:34 PM
@Pops You should always assume I'm typing. Something. Somewhere.
4

But you have that loud keyboard, and I barely ever hear you typing.

user163250
@AnnaLear do you type in your sleep?

@Cupcake Pffft. Who doesn't?

@Cupcake she dreams that she's typing ;)

user163250
I used to play with Gaussian curves while I slept.

user163250
9:36 PM
It was awful.

Don't know @Cupcake. I've pointed him out before and that was dismissed as helpful. Nothing visible happened, but I don't really want to make a big thing out of it. He's just annoying me. Heck, maybe it's just me. :)

Anna is probably one of those people who types one character into the chat windows so it always says "Anna Lear is typing..." in the bar at the bottom...

@Cupcake Hey now, this is a family chatroom.

@Pops That's because I finally put dampening rings in.
And also maybe because you live several states away from the office. But mostly that first one.

Nah, I heard you all the time when I was five-ish states away.
It's only now that I'm seven-ish away that I have quiet.

9:38 PM
^ I like mac keyboards.
They are quiet.

@bjb568 You're fired.

They aren't keyboards.

@bjb568 they're iBoards

Yay. That means I was once hired!

Oooh, oooh, what am I, @Pops?

@Bart Now I'm going on a remove-the-invalid-keyboard-uses spree.

Sounds like a good way to spend your time @animuson

@Pops Woah, who invited Donald Trump?
