4:03 PM
200 more reps until I get cv privs on SO!

one day :P

Is there an actual Meta room for Stack Overflow now?

Meta room? As in chat?

@MartijnPieters there can be

Yes, like the Programmers Whiteboard, Meta SE Tavern, etc. etc.
The Overflown Stack, or something.

meta SO is part of SE chat now, so dunno

4:24 PM
Ah, yes, the chat link leads here.
So effectively, for now, the split hasn't yet applied to chat.

4:37 PM
@SPArchaeologist I'm happy to discuss this whenever, but as you note it's gonna be really hard to change my opinion on this. If you or anyone else is serious about addressing these concerns, I'd appreciate it if you read through some of the (extensive) discussions that've been had on MSE first - otherwise, we're just repeating the same things that've already been covered ad nauseum.
@MartijnPieters there are tons of SO-related rooms of course, some of them more meta than others. This one gets un-frozen periodically when it's needed:

@Bart Let me make an edit to improve the question and see if he wants to reverse his votes and remove his comments....
Cool, I'm on 2222 rep now. STOP MIGRATING MY POSTS!

@ProgramFOX I updated the @include by the way. :P

@TimStone Nice, thanks! I removed my comment because I thought it was not working because there was a feature missing that actually came from another userscript, not from yours.

Ahh

1 hour later…
6:02 PM
If anyone want to judge this and if OK give it a reopen vote
I have updated the question to better reflect what your actual question was about based on the fact that you accepted my answer. — rene 51 secs ago

No, I don't think so, it is an edge case

It's close, though

Myeah, not convinced it's spam

User posted another low queality question
Leave comment maybe?

6:16 PM
any mods around? Having an issue in

 PHP

Support group for those afflicted with PHP. Don't ask to ask, ...

PHP, yeah, that language is always a prob....ah the chatroom ... nevermind. As you were.
What should I do about the last revision here? Rollback? Cleanup? I think the comments indicate the explanation itself is appropriate ... stackoverflow.com/posts/21843175/revisions

hmm, interesting a tag is marked as created by community if I create it while editing someone's question?

Looks like someone tried to refactor HandleSuccess :P
2

@Bart what the...

Indeed @Braiam

6:21 PM
@Bart rollback and edit: add a ###Question:
just before the actual question
rollback to revision 2

Problem is that he's rephrasing the last two sentences of that revision. So I'm not sure if I should replace them or not.
Meh, rollback and comment for the OP it is

The OP is last seen 3 days ago

Yeah, I told him to make the edit himself if he thought it was accurate

what does the rejection reason mean in this context?

What do you mean? It's not rejected?

6:35 PM
it is rejected by one person giving this reasoning: "This edit changes too much in the original post; the original meaning or intent of the post would be lost."

Bad review.

@LaszloPapp lol, maybe he wants "too minor" :P

Yes, I would understand that. I forgot to mention in the comment that I did it for consistency with the rest.
@rene: thanks.

welcome

rene will just approve anything. someone should flag that guy
I might already have

6:39 PM
Tnx @bart

welcome

Someone is cleaning up the stackoverflow.com/users/3476320/andrey

was that brought up on meta?

dunno
this kind of edits in the queue stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/4608623

I would hope for a meta link in the comment.

6:41 PM
> Your search returned no matches.

Ah, it has a clearly defined tag wiki

@rene I see that his edits were valid

perhaps the tagwiki can improved if so many people misuse it.
not that 95% of the people read tagwikies. : - (

I think it needs rename

Don't know if a graphviz-dot would be appropriate. Or a dot-language? (Probably not the latter)
@LaszloPapp Still on my list: figure out a way to improve tag wikis and their visibility
I was going to propose blinking tags, but I might hold off on that one

6:44 PM
editor tag....

@Braiam I left a comment asking him to post on meta

IMHO, meta should be improved for such discussions, too, somehow.

that was a former dot tagged question

there are not many representatives for deciding about certain tags.

6:49 PM
@rene, done, but I have the gut feeling they are quicker.

done

Tnx

@rene: that guy seems to be going through these minutes and adding "editor" to vim, etc editor questions.

Should this be off-topic? (Homework from discrete maths)

Q: what to do with fraction as index number

6:55 PM
maybe migrate?

@SJMP did this question really needed that tag? The vi and vim tags already indicate the question is about editors. There is no need to add another high-level tag. Please stop doing that. — rene 12 secs ago

My dog just tried to picked a fight with what I assume was a doberman that ate a great dane.
3

@rene, oh, wow, they won from 2:0.
@jadarnel27: oh, btw, there is an interesting new musical instrument, called seaboard.

^^ @jadarnel27's dog

@LaszloPapp I'm on his profile now and every time he suggests an edit I reject it...

6:58 PM
@jadarnel27 Fighting with a dog is ok. Not quite with a pig, though.

@Bart for a while I understood "@jadarnel27 is a dog"

@LaszloPapp I have not heard of it. By the way, I saw that guy in Boston drumming on trash and pots and pans.
@Bart LOL

Never wrestle with a pig. Both of you get dirty, but the pig enjoys it.

Actually, my dog is not small. She's 50-60 pounds. But this other dog appeared to be at least twice her size.

performs math

6:59 PM
@jadarnel27: hmm, ok. :) And one of the heads at that company is the keyboard player of Dream Theater.

@jadarnel27 What is the density of the two dogs?

@rene, ok, feel free to post the links.

And does size mean weight or does it mean physical dimensions?

@Undo Hahaha, I think you're overthinking it.

I'm an engineer. My job is to overthink things.

7:00 PM
@jadarnel27 What is the ambient temperature? Humidity?

Current status: Overthinking @jadarnel27's dog.

@Undo The dog might not like it.

one win with 3:2.

In the end Undo will come up with some weird dog/robot hybrid powered by an Arduino

7:01 PM
She would probably be irate about having those attributes measured.

@LaszloPapp Yes!

And @Undo would then think about undoing all the actions.

ohh, yeah. Let's add to all questions. Because, they are the same right?
If they are the same, why 2 different tags?
so they are not the same? Does not matter, I get robo-reviewed anyway.

Just suggest a tag synonym @JohannesKuhn /ducks

meh. I don't use vi or vim. I don't know if there is a difference.

7:07 PM
Adding a synonym would be boring @Bart

@JohannesKuhn there is
vi == vi.
vim == vi improved

evil =~ vi

but if you want to do something constructive, look if any and tagged questions are about javascript and java. if not.. go ahead
well, new chat broke

I already have my daily dose of and @JohannesKuhn

status-doesthisstillwork
YAY!

7:10 PM
status-I-probably-can-not-do-this
meh?
merging what?

merging vi, vim, emacs, nano, pico, notepad++, whatever

@LaszloPapp What's the company?

rm -rf emacs nano pic notepad++, done :P

Q: Unity C# Object reference not set to an instance of an object

user2961276I keep getting the error Object reference not set to an instance of an object on line 64 and I can't figure out what I need to do Everything is working like the lives are showing up and the timer and the score is but the score isn't increasing if you can tell me what is wrong I would be so thank...

@LaszloPapp Now you don't have an OS.

7:12 PM
something like this?

@jadarnel27: youtube.com/…
(Roli)

That's appropriately tagged @JohannesKuhn. The Unity tag is for some Microsoft thing. Unity3d is for the game engine, but often those users use the Unity tag.

@GnomeSlice nice :)

ok. I have no idea

canonical also has some unity thingie.

7:14 PM
but I heard about some unity flash addon. for web games. is that something other?

Unity used to be able to build to Flash before, but that has been scrapped.

@LaszloPapp Oh, wow. That's really, really cool.

@jadarnel27: one minute performance demo, youtube.com/watch?v=dbo3Ll8-NOQ It is very impressive, and they have several open vacancies here in London. :)

Unity DE, Unity MS, Unity3d engine? like this @LaszloPapp @Bart?

yeah, something like that, although the first is not DE, but UI.
(The DE is gnome)

7:23 PM
I'm only active with the 3D one @Braiam, so I have no clue what the others are about, but yeah, essentially

@LaszloPapp Wow, that's fantastic.

@LaszloPapp I don't know the first thing about playing an instrument but I want one

@Bart Unity is the dependency injector from the P&P team, part of entlib

2000 dollars now for early buyers, but it will go up to 3000 dollars later. It is a bit expensive, which is not a surprise from a new instrument.

7:25 PM
That explains all @rene (Still no fricking clue :P )

I imagine the first buyers will be studios mostly... the interesting thing about it is that you can make effect in live that you could only do before by post-processing after the studio work.

Yeah. The ability to do vibrato and slides selectively, without having to reach over and move a tone wheel, is awesome.

yup. =)

@LaszloPapp err... unity is a desktop environment last time I checked

@Braiam: no, you can use gnome with other shells, but yes, canonical makes it really hard to replace it.
for instance, there is also the gnome 3 shell.
although a Qt/KDE user using ratpoison here, so anything going beyond that is going beyond my league.
perhaps unity-shell?

7:35 PM
Man...the SO Community Bulletin constantly changing is going to take some getting used to.

I have a polling question here that can use some close votes

So there is a chance he'll come back @LaszloPapp

We will celebrate that day?!?!

@Bart: yes, he may get 30 years for the next round.

7:42 PM
haha. "I'm back you *)/*%&/&ER(WE/R&" ... suspended for 30 years

:D
why did the VLQ get so many posts these days to review? I do not recall it like that before.

@LaszloPapp NAA's are being pushed to the review too...

is that a recent change?
there is currently 49, and a couple of months back, it used to stay around zero, and you had to be quick to get them reviewed.

Yes, it is a recent change, part of getting rid of the 10k flag queue if I recall correctly.

ok, thanks.

8:00 PM
I think someone's trying to flood the VLQ queue.
There's currently 34 posts in it.

Our earlier dot retagger opened a meta post as I suggested him meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/251254/clean-up-the-dot-tag

This question: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/32625/… is going to get lost by remaining in StackExchange meta
I flagged it for moving but mod said "too many links"...

@IAbstract I highly doubt that'll be lost.

Okay, visibility will be reduced for the intended target audience

8:16 PM
@IAbstract the target audience being the folks who wish the feature existed, or the folks who might implement it?

@Shog9 the target audience being the folks who wish the feature existed :)

@IAbstract meh. They'll find it. Or they'll re-propose it and we'll cross-link them.

So I could go ahead and propose the question again on MSO???
I didn't want to get balked at for doing so

@IAbstract You can. Although unless you happen to know of a safe, cross-browser, Flash-free way of implementing this, I don't see it happening, so you might want to not waste your time.

I see
:(
bummer ...

8:30 PM
@Undo ... where was that?

@Shog9 I know a way in JS:
function setclipboard(text) {
var txt = document.createElement('textarea');
txt.value = text;
document.body.appendChild(txt);
txt.select();
document.execCommand('Copy');
document.body.removeChild(txt);
}

@Braiam cross-browser...

@Shog9 ie sucks :P

@Braiam IE actually supports execCommand('Copy') outside of tightly-controlled scenarios though.

that's so lame.

@hichris123 making a Sound Design account.
because spam

@Braiam even if you find a way to copy the code, you'll ultimately still have to manually punch the holes in your punch cards, so it's all rather pointless.

By the way, if anyone wonders why this is hard they've never had the misfortune of landing on a page that forcibly resets your clipboard as a hair-brained copy-protection scheme.

err... that's abusive actually

8:51 PM
@Shog9 I once got the privilege of working on a website that disabled right click. Right click is how you get into Chrome dev tools >.<

@Undo F12
or ctrl+shift+j

@Undo Ctrl + Shift + J
(was fx)

ctrl+shift+c works too

Well you can do that, but right click selects that element and you don't have to click the little arrows ad aeternum.

heh
Yeah well.. websites that disable right click shouldn't do that in the first place unless they're replacing the menu with their own like google docs

8:53 PM
I have an extension that disables all that "protection" :D

Sites that do alert("don't steal our stuff") on right click are the worst because it doesn't really help at all

@Undo Once you have the dev tools window open, you can use the magnifying glass button in the upper left to select elements with your mouse =)

@3ventic yeah, that's what this one did.

It just taunts you to steal it

@jadarnel27 WUT?
beats keyboard with head
Or, as my Latin teacher would say, beats keyboard by means of head
meh, whatever.

8:55 PM
@Undo Latin's so weird

@Undo /me sings "A whole new world" to Undo

@Braiam Yoda in Latin class talk like can.

Java says: "Hey there's an update you should install"
Windows says: "Are you sure you want to let Java install an update?"
I say: "Install it"
Java says: "You're already on latest version."
facedesk

39 secs ago, by Braiam
@Undo Latin's so weird

8:56 PM
grrrrrrrrrr

@3ventic Don't get me started on the sites that bring up a dialog box over their contents to say "You'll be able to see that stuff behind me once you register." Oh, yeah? How about I do "inspect element" and then delete. HOW ABOUT THAT DAMN WEBSITE? WHAT DO YOU SAY NOW?

@3ventic "But I can install the new Ask Toolbar for you"

You taunt me, @3ventic!

:p
@Louis Maybe they'll hire you for knowing so much about web browsers :o

@Louis cough quora cough

8:57 PM
@3ventic and @jadarnel27, since you seem to be great givers of useful knowledge, know anything about Git and Ruby that would make my life easier?

@Undo stop using them?

I don't know anything about git and ruby other than one is version control and the other one looks like python

But a guy sends me moneys if I use them, @Bart.

Use them @Undo. Use them good

He might stop sending me moneys if I start pushing Python code to the repo.

8:58 PM
@Undo Y U NO KOW GIT?!@#$%@#$%^

I know Git, fairly well.

I use svn because I can't be bothered to set up a git server..

But I really dislike having to actually think when git adding stuff.
Could you fix that?

git commit -a -m "commit message" <--- ?!?!?!?

@Undo you could always look at the excellent docum....nevermind

8:59 PM
installs 14.04 on closet server

@Braiam Still requires remembering how to spell "commit". Twice. That's really entirely too much mental effort.

@Shog9 if he uses TAB, he can cut down that to com and commit

@hichris123 how'd you find that?
checks to make sure hichris hasn't acquired 8000 rep from some mysterious source

@hichris123 if she had way too much fun... I better keep it quiet

9:02 PM
@Undo Look in Charcoal HQ.

... could have at least used the bug tag

ah

it wasn't discussion?

@Braiam It was a feature-request.
:P

Q: do you think im pregnant? nothing rude please

user259150I had an abortion (please dont judge me). Me and my new bf had unprotected sex more than once after the abortion. cuz we were really high and didnt know what we were doing. But anyway. The day before my check up i got the depo shot. But now im having pregnancy symptoms such as: lower back pain o...

^ Small onebox of it.

gets a headache

@Undo I don't know anything about that =)

:(
How about that dog which I assume beat the crap out of that great-dane-eating doberman?

There are GUI front ends for Git, if it's the syntax and whatnot that are bugging you.

It's all the thinking that bothers me

9:10 PM
@Undo Haha, she knows slightly more Ruby than me, but not much.

If a project I'm working on continues, I have the lovely task of making Git artist friendly ahead of me .... sigh ...

good luck :P

Yeah, thanks. I'll need it.

Just found out that I'm a part of the Stack Exchange FAQ chat.stackexchange.com/faq#mute

9:25 PM
As an example of someone you might want to mute ...

Yeah .. that's describes me pretty well.

haha

9:41 PM
I was so confused by this random name being a room owner, until you mentioned you were Chacha, @TylerCarter.

10:53 PM
"My program doesn't work, here are some files"
@Louis Did you flag that second comment?
I think it's pretty unnecessary.

@jadarnel27 I did not flag it (skipped my mind) but you're right.

Cool, thanks =)

11:24 PM
Oooo I scored a 17 on the aptitude test this time around.

@animuson What aptitude test?

A basic 911 Dispatching aptitude test.

The aptitude test.

I only scored a 15 last time.

What score indicates that everyone has remained safe and sound?

11:30 PM
15 is always their cut-off for interviews. Unless way too many people score a 15.
So if I go register to vote in another state and thus vote for President twice, it's ok, because it's another state, right? How is that illegal? — animuson 8 secs ago
I couldn't help myself.
