5:56 AM
@telkitty.exe How much did you lose?
I've been very careful to try and make sure nobody took an appreciable hit, but if I managed to pummel anyone, I've got plenty of extra rep in reserve and can bounty up some stuff.

user202362
somewhere between 100 - 200, don't know the exact number, all overnight with no significant voting changes

user202362
I asked around, how come nobody else seems to be affected? Am I the unluckiest person who finds out all your bugs here?

user202362

I remember those almost accidental bans ...

@LaszloPapp close voted that....

@rene: thanks.
is there an algo recommendation subsite, too?

Not yet I guess
Isn't that something for Theoretical Computer Science

Do you think it is acceptable to copy an answer, change it slightly and present it as your own?

@AmalMurali: yes

Case in point: this answer from here.
@LaszloPapp: I forgot to add "without attribution"

7:38 AM
@AmalMurali with attribution I would say

you are linking the same answer twice.

@AmalMurali those links are the same

Fixed.

So that is a blind copy...

Yes, except for one line.
Oh, no. I want to remove my upvote :/
@rene: Even the arrays are same in both the answers (it was not provided in the question)

7:41 AM
left a comment

I would do that ^^^^

it is rare that people using the same style, e.g. no spaces between delimiters, etc.
can we close the question as duplicate? Hmm, they seem to be slightly different, although it is still beyond my duplicate threshold.

Nope

that is an awesome link in the same thread....
someone might want to edit that.

8:12 AM
@LaszloPapp: Done.

thanks

@LaszloPapp: I think you forgot to add the link in that comment? :P

that is possible.

8:26 AM
oh, someone is writing an irc interface for the stackoverflow chat...

@LaszloPapp why?

@JanDvorak what else can you do during the easter weekend?

you could play codegolf

I did that once @JanDvorak. Until they explained to me that it's not hitting your notebook with buggy code with a club out of frustration.
4

@Bart :-D

8:45 AM
@JanDvorak: because many people prefer IRC for chatting.

I like IRC better. It's cooler.

9:08 AM
perhaps someone will create an ncurses interface for SO. :D

Someone should make a Gopher interface :-)

9:26 AM
is it possible to query the greatest number of helpful flags raised by a user?

I think that's private except for mod elections nominees

yeah, I suspect the same; I was wondering why it is private though.
10
Q: Helpful flags invisibility

Ondrej JanacekWhy can't I see how many helpful flags a user has, in his/her profile? Is it considered as private information? It's something similar like review which I can see at least when hovering over an image in recent reviews.

2 hours later…
11:30 AM
@Bart that OP has a tumbleweed badge on SO but no answers or questions so I expect him to be banned.

Ah, the profile updated. When I looked there were no other accounts visible for him
So perhaps it's "Let's ask on MSO ... ah, I don't have the rep ... MSE it is then"

We will wait for that confession...
gone...

Have any of you seen programming questions on MSO since the split?

just wait until they find out...

It requires 5 rep to post there, so most of them simply can't @Qantas94Heavy
We will get some eventually

11:47 AM
Instead they ask on mse like that earlier one?

They might. But it's a bit more hidden/further away than MSO was

just wait until they find out...

It doesn't carry the "Stack Overflow" name anymore so it's about as likely to get programming questions as it is on Arqade..
Which is about once in a month or two

which would be an improvement, but let's see...

Less to complain about. Less to downvote, close vote and delete vote .... I'm not sure I like this.

11:56 AM
@Bart indeed; less Fun

wishes all a happy unicorn day

Okay... why does typing //cash and hitting enter freeze the tab for a moment and not post it

Because the system needs to verify your banking details before an unspecified amount is transferred to me @3ventic

Okay

I can't help but notice that my meta.stackoverflow reputation is the same as my stackoverflow reputation. Does this mean that if I suggest something not well-received on that meta, my stackoverflow reputation gets a big hit downwards?

11:59 AM
@Sumurai8 No
Child metas do not have reputation and they only inherit it from the main site
You can't gain or lose reputation for posts on MSO.

So you try-out every insane feature-request there first before you post on mSE.

That's about the only "they will figure it out" I'm afraid of for MSO

That's a pretty viable way to do it.
@Bart I think it's good that bad ideas also get discussed without people being afraid of getting punished for bringing them up

@3ventic Okay, thanks :) Good to hear.

@3ventic sure, there are upsides and downsides to everything.

12:05 PM
Pretty much

I'm just a pessimist. :D

Where did that question go about the tag wiki of jackson?

Oh, did I scare the OP away with my comment?

Your mere presence was enough

12:07 PM
haha, submitted my 666th answer.

@Bart If that is all what it takes...

That explains the sudden thunderclouds, lightning and maniacal laughter I heard @LaszloPapp

Q: Python "interrupt"

Stack PlayerI have a python 2-7 program running an infinite while loop and I want to incorporate a timer interrupt. What I aim to do is to set off a timer at some point in the loop, and when 5 seconds have elapsed I want the code to branch to a specific part of the while loop. What I have so far been doing ...

And only three views when it had those votes

All his questions have favorites, but then again you can favorite your own questions ...

His most recent questions and answers also each got a vote within ~30 seconds

And got favourited twice as well...

Yeah, I wasn't sure but I'll do the same now... tnx

@LaszloPapp cv and rejected the edit that was pendng on it

thanks.
does anyone know how to format my answer properly? stackoverflow.com/questions/23170222/…
the second and third main points looks fishy here.

@LaszloPapp What do you want it to look like?

1:37 PM
I would like to have a line break before them to be symmetric and easy to read. Perhaps I just need an explicit <br>?

@LaszloPapp That's what I would do.

OK, I will update it once I get comments.
thanks.

fixed for you

ah, ok, can you also put a break after the points?

Uhh, dunno...

1:39 PM
or remove the one after GStreamer.
to be consistent :)

fixed again...

Ok, so I answer a question which is not the greatest thing on earth but is answerable. (By the way, that question could do with some substantial editing but I wanted to see the light at the end of the tunnel before starting edits to avoid having a whole slew of edits.) Then I discover in the comments on my answer that the OP has several shortcomings. (I'd say the OP does not know how to work with RequireJS, with Backbone, with Underscore or with jQuery.)
In my experience these turn into time-sinks so I've often just deleted my answer and moved on. I could downvote and vote to close but without my answer being there I'm not convinced that other eye falling on the question would see the problem. Any strategies here?

@Louis I would give it one more try to get the info needed from the Op and then move on, If you get comments from other users that something is wrong either fix or remove based on the feedback of others. This could become a help-vampire.

@rene All the comments on my answer are from the OP.
Well, except my own comments.

I saw that and what is missing if I interpret everything correctly is the markup so that can be determined if your assumption is correct. The OP either provides that (that is what I mean with one more time) or someone else comes by and points out what is wrong with your answer and then you have valueable feedback to improve the answer. Until that happens what you curently have is the best you can do.
And by the looks of it, you answered the question.

Hi
When going through the review queue, how can I "disagree" with the "flag or disagree" button?

Flagging with invalid flags is disagreeing.

2:18 PM
@rene Thanks. I've considered my options and decided to revert to my old strategy of deleting my answer and moving on. :) If someone comes around and has the patience to talk the OP through everything they are doing wrong and make the question appropriate for SO, then great!

@Louis Plot twist: Louis is also the OP and merely discussing with himself.

@LaszloPapp Why on earth would you use jdbc from c++?

@rene: I would not :)

@rene I'm assuming he means "I know JDBC but now I need to use C++ so what can I do?"

@rene: time to downvote the answer given ...

2:35 PM
Meh, no need to nuke that user into oblivion @LaszloPapp. First time user, so a comment will do.

do not spoil the nuclear war fun, Bart!
btw, I edited my comment already.

My therapist said I was getting too soft @LaszloPapp. He won't any more ....

so that question is now really closed then?

2:49 PM
I guess.

Now stay closed. >:(

It was from the review interface, I know that much.

perhaps worth bringing up on meta?
or maybe, some user has a comma in the displayed name?
nah, that is not the case here.

Meh, maybe.
BUT WHERE DO I PUT IT?
This split is confusing my mind.

2:53 PM
perhaps it is become the closure was dismissed first and the closing vote from that time is back? I do not know.

MikDiet and you probably pressed close at exactly the same time

Hi guys. My parents are cutting off my internet for the foreseeable future so I may not be around much for a while.

@GnomeSlice What? Why? :(

Undo put on hold as off-topic by toro2k, Wayne Conrad, Uri Agassi, eugen, MikDiet, Undo 10 mins ago Can anyone see the problem here? Yes, I just cast the sixth close vote on this question. tnx!

is there any 20K+ user without a nice answer badge?

@LaszloPapp Hmm...

I once saw a >10k user with only questions and at most one or two bad answers, but I don't recall anything more extreme than that. Perhaps SEDE can help?

... that's what I'm doing. :P

Great. I go back to procrastinating then

But the answer is basically "there's something I did not tell you that I screwed up in my code."

I wonder why I contribute to the qt tag... I get 75 rep for a whole day effort, and I get 100-120 quickly in the C++ tag within an hour, LOL.

@rene I will try to post them when I can.

@LaszloPapp contributing to Unity3D doesn't help me a lot either. But meh, what are you doing to do with lots of rep anyway

Q: Accessing the index in Python for loops

Joan VengeDoes anyone know how to access the index itself for a list like this: ints = [8, 23, 45, 12, 78] When I loop through it using a for loop, how do I access the loop index, from 1 to 5 in this case?

@LaszloPapp By asking simple questions that yield a lot of votes

Seems fine to me @LaszloPapp. That user just asked some common questions at the beginning of the site that still give him plenty of trickle rep.

4:13 PM
oh, sorry, I implied that above column as answer in the hurry.
OK, so I what would be nice to see is 20K+ user without nice answer and question badge.

You can manually check the 3 results I guess. ;)

of course :-)

although his accepted ratio is pretty good.
@rene: thanks

For users that have thousands of questions and hardly any answers I always wonder if that is how they hold on to their jobs

4:18 PM
@LaszloPapp If we upvote that top answer he has a nice answer badge...

that would be a pity :P
he has 2K batch-files... shouldn't that be batch? I thought it gets back to the "parent".

Why do we have a bitcoin stackexchange?! O_o

Because it was successful enough on Area51 to become a beta

@LaszloPapp do you think the synonym is the wrong way? I think batch by it self would be confusing due to batch processing among other usages...
so for me it looks fine...

Yay, fresh flags

@rene: ok, fair enough.
batch-script / batch-file is ok.

@Bart: yeah, I just thought that inside, have not told him.
@Bart: on the other hand, there is another 100K+ rep user, who fixed the bug with his code and I happily changed my downvote to upvote even though I had an "competitive" alternative post in there.
