Nevermind, found it :)

@drachenstern Hmm?

bah, you went offline didn't you?

My laptop goes to sleep after 45 minutes of inactivity :P

Is there a difference between the two sentences? I don't think there is, but...

@YiJiang There actually is, if you ask me: the can. Watching can avoid vs watch and you will avoid.

@RegDwight Ah, yes I see.
'to avoid' should be better than 'can avoid'

@YiJiang I would actually throw in a "help" if I were to use the first one. "Watching can help avoid", not just "watching can avoid".
The second one is fine as it is, I would say.
Disclosure: I am not a native speaker. You might wish to ask on English.SE.

@RegDwight I know you from English.SE, I just need a second opinion on this

What's going on?

12:42 AM
No you didn't, you just cut to the front of the line. My turn!
Also, @tagging works on FB comments.

@YiJiang I'd have gone with something more like "Also, watch the length of length of prototype chains. If they get too long, you may be forced to break them up to avoid performance issues." but I suppose that's not particularly helpful as far as your actual question goes. :P

I should leave.
I have less than an hour till we need to be at the theater.

Uh oh, I have as many badges on MSO as I do on SO, that should probably be an indication of something.

only when you have more badges and moar reps

Ah good, I still have a little breathing room then. ;)

12:51 AM
I have more 'nice answer' badges, but that's probably for all those 'fun' answers I have on MSO

ok folks, I'm out

@drachenstern See ya

indeed

@YiJiang Yeah, two of my Nice Answer badges on MSO are from the April Fool's post, heh.
Heh, I was like "Where the hell is this pull request?" and then realized that you had closed it, @YiJiang :P

1:13 AM
@TimStone Uh, I had? I don't remember closing any pull requests recently

@YiJiang Closed as in rejected.
On a related note, that guy has jsFiddle watching his repository because of that neat extension he made :o

@TimStone The title tag one, right? I didn't close it, I'm pretty sure I didn't click on the close button

Oh, maybe he closed it himself.
I didn't consider that option.

We are starting the move of our services from our Oregon Data center to Our Brand-Spanking-Shiny-New NYC Data Center.

We’ll do our best to keep things up and running while we move but there may be some service interruption and oddities as we get everything over and running.

We should have all the migrations done sometime today (but sooner than 6-8 weeks)

Check back here for updates on the move.

Is this a known issue already perchance:

@mootinator The sketchy font color issue was fixed, but after the new update they might have broke it again

@YiJiang Ah.
The sketchy sites seem fine, it's just the metas if that makes a difference.

@mootinator The previous one was about the color being a very light blue color that has very bad contrast with the background

Yeah. But I can't imagine everything there is true.

I use the standard twitter client on my BB. :/

over 90%?
plus, if it really is that high, 3rd party clients aren't really the issue they claim. >_<

They have to be doing something ridiculous like counting every person that visits the site for 10 seconds as an "official twitter client user"

FLASH: #Japan nuclear authorities say high possibility of meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi No. 1 reactor - Jiji
So the entire problem at this reactor is that since they shut down the nuclear plants, there's no power to run the cooling system. They already used their 8 hours of battery and the backup diesel generator didn't work. Why don't they turn on one of the 4 reactors at this plant to cool the one that's about to melt down?! The other 3 aren't damaged, they only shut them down anticipating the tsunami...
It's a power plant that can't operate because it has no power... confusing.

Ok, I can't stand this. Need to find something else to be background noise. >_<

@DanGrossman I don't think it works that way. The power to run the plant came from an offsite source. Plus, the shutdown is about avoiding possible problems that may not have been detected in the other reactors.

5:48 AM
All they really need is a hose.

Someone should run a really long hose from their house to the reactor
The water levels in the core are falling because it's boiling off... throw in a hose.

The US is flying the water in to the plant. How's that for efficient? :)

@DanGrossman, I'm sure all the people who do this for a living haven't thought of that. You should really get in touch with them asap. (:

Are they flying it in from US bases in Japan, I hope?
I don't think California water is better than Japanese water at cooling metal

Q: MouseOver of Username to expand Rep/Info should be a Click event.

Metro SmurfThe new Rep/Info summary that is expanded when mousing over your username is quit nifty. However, every time my mouse inadvertently moves over my username, the rep/info box expands which quickly becomes an annoyance. Hopefully I'm not alone in this campaign for a click event.

Yeah, I was thinking either that or this third idea I've been meaning to try out.

So, they removed the flot graph. Presumably they're going to put it back again... some time

@TimStone I said presumably. I have no idea whether they'll put it back or not

7:03 AM
Ah, I thought you had seen something that suggested it. We were talking to Nick about the changes earlier, I forget if he mentioned anything like that. He did say to post suggestions on Meta though, so it's safe to do so. :P

I am getting a little frustrated at this - why this sort of incremental changes being made on the main site and not in the dev version? How do we know if a feature is 'complete' and that its time to complain about it on Meta, rather than report it and have a dev come around and say 'oh sure, we knew about this already. Will fix in a few days time'?

I get it when I hover over either, so. :P

Hard refresh? I'm seeing this on Meta

@YiJiang Clicking the arrow works, but it also happens if I just hover the arrow or profile link.
If I click the arrow again it goes away though (and then again brings it back), so you're right.

Nothing happens when I hover over the profile link

Heh, did you check to make sure it's not erroring? >_>

@TimStone Ah ha, you're right. Now the behavior is back again.
Enabling Firebug catches the error and returns it to the original behavior

@SMark Like this?

looks nice :D just don't know who is who

11:53 AM
$('.avatar img').each(function() {
    this.src = this.src.replace(/\w{3}?\.gravatar\.com/g, 'unicornify.appspot.com');
});
$('.user').remove();
Though this only works for a limited amount of time, because I couldn't figure out how to keep replacing avarars without eating much CPU.

heheh

@Nyuszika7H Attaching a DOMInsertedElement event should work

@YiJiang Or ajaxComplete? No, that's fired more times…
@YiJiang DOMInsertedElement?

@Nyuszika7H But that would be called continuously, and most of the time does not result in a new message
@Nyuszika7H Or ElementInserted. I can't quite remember its name

@YiJiang I think it's DOMNodeInserted.

11:56 AM
@Nyuszika7H Yes, that's the one

testing it…
going to Sandbox

It'll be fired multiple times, you need to filter for the correct event.target

I'm doing this now:
$('#chat').bind('DOMNodeInserted', function() {
    $('.avatar img').each(function() {
        this.src = this.src.replace(/\w+?\.gravatar\.com/gi, 'unicornify.appspot.com');
    });
    $('.username').remove();
});

@Nyuszika7H Too many events will be fired

then how do I filter it?

12:00 PM
if($(event.target).is(...))

is what?

Well, log the event.targets and choose the correct element yourself

I get something like this:
<div class="message pending" id="pending-message-1">test</div>
<div class="message neworedit" id="message-562625">…</div>
<div style="height: 0px; clear: both; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden; "></div>
<div class="username" style="display: none; ">Nyuszika7H</div>
<div class="username" style="display: none; ">Nyuszika7H</div>
<div class="timestamp" id="id-562625">…</div>
"562625 13:07:02"
<span class="action_clip" title="Add this message to my clipboard"></span>
but I want to replace the avatars on the sidebar, too

@Nyuszika7H You should be able to attach the same event to the sidebar gravatar list too, no?

I can't get it working :/

12:12 PM
@Nyuszika7H What does your current code look like?

$('#chat, #present-users').bind('DOMNodeInserted', function() {
    if ($(event.target).is('.avatar')) {
        $('.avatar img').each(function() {
            this.src = this.src.replace(/\w+?\.gravatar\.com/g, 'unicornify.appspot.com');
        });
    }
});

@Nyuszika7H I don't see .avatar in that list of elements you listed there

probably it's inside .messages
so I need to check for .message
$('#chat, #present-users').bind('DOMNodeInserted', function() {
    if ($(event.target).is('.message')) {
        $(event.target).find('.avatar img').each(function() {
            this.src = this.src.replace('www.gravatar.com', 'unicornify.appspot.com');
        });
    }
});
it's still not working

No, .gravatar isn't inside .message, I'm pretty sure of that

ah, right

12:18 PM
You can try $(event.target).has('.gravatar') I think

hmm
it replaced one avatar on the sidebar, but that's all
I even tried $('.avatar img').live('load'), but that didn't work either.

@Nyuszika7H Well of course you still need to run the code once for all existing elements

@YiJiang right
function unicornify() {
    this.src = this.src.replace(/\w+?\.gravatar\.com/g, 'unicornify.appspot.com');
}
$('.avatar img').each(unicornify).live('load', unicornify);
this seems to work
no, new images aren't unicornified :/ (write something YiJiang to let me see if it works now) no it doesn't :/
maybe DOMAttrModified would work

How annoying, I have only ever received one bounty on SO. I must try and correct that :)

The reputation graph is gone for good! :sheds a tear for rep graph:

@YiJiang Finally! :)

@YiJiang sorry :)

Is it okay to post a "question" on Meta saying how good soemthing is and not to change it?

@NickCraver Hi! :)

Like the new user dropdown is amazingly good
Is it acceptable to praise it and tell them not to touch it as it works great as -is?

12:38 PM
@MylesGray Meh, its not bad, but I can definitely find fault with it

I really REALLY like it I think its great
especially now that it is click to goto profile and hover to preview

I liked it before they made it 48% more awesome

@Barry Well, now the reputation tab is ridiculously sparse without it

@MylesGray - I haven't been here that long, but I thought meta was reserved for complaints

@NickCraver I thought it was a feedback site?

12:43 PM
@YiJiang What would you put there though? I didn't find any purpose for the graph.

@NickCraver Definitely, too much praises and whiners like me would have nowhere to go!

positive and negative, I mean its not like im rep fishing, I was going to make it CW
There are a few suggestions in it however...

@Barry I would want the number of entries listed by default to be reduced, and all of them expanded by default
Additional ability to sort by, say, 'question that earned me the most rep' would be interesting

@NickCraver Is something like this appropriate:
Just want to say how great the optimisations put on the StackExchange™ SuperUserMegaDropDown™ is, especially with the addition of the click to view profile and hover to preview, I really like the last rep received section.

The last earned badges section may be slightly unnecessary as it doesn't update that often (in my case anyway) maybe a new comments section instead?

Anyway, great job and just wanted to post up my appreciation for the good work that has gone into it!

@MylesGray - see that has suggestions, those are always welcome, and the community can vote if they agree or not

12:47 PM
Okay cool thats alright :)

The ability to restrict date range and some sort of aggregate scores (rep cap hit count, total amount earned in this period) would be nice

@YiJiang I wondered a rep-descending grouped by post view, not sure how useful that would be though, since the stats page shows basically the same thing with the top-voted answers

@YiJiang You mean like how you can sort your answers?

I do kind of miss the graph - Seeing hundreds of +100, +50 etc. just doesn't make a lot of sense, visualizing them with a graph is good
@NickCraver True, true. I'm just throwing ideas out here
flag weight 581.9002 - looks like I've finally hit the curve

the rep changes yesterday were certainly to address what was on /recent and its summary, not saying we're finished there that was just me spending a few hours to hopefully improve it

@NickCraver Oh, and the dropdown menu is triggering a JavaScript error in Firefox 4

Q: New StackExchange™ SuperUserMegaDropDown™ great, but one suggestion

Myles GrayJust want to say how great the optimisations put on the StackExchange™ SuperUserMegaDropDown™ is, especially with the addition of the click to view profile and hover to preview, I really like the last rep received section. The last earned badges section may be slightly unnecessary as it doesn't ...

Can't see the make CW button?

@MylesGray Old news, its gone for good

the CV button?

i don't have the RC installed, one min

But why won't you want free meta rep? ;)
@NickCraver Is it working in 3.6?

12:52 PM
Just want peoples to contribute

yeah 3.6 seems fine
firing up a testing VM now
yay vmware workstation

Well, I want <div class="profile-section-lebel">recent rep changes</div> to either be removed or changed to a <h*> element
Or a <caption>

jin would kill you, possibly

I would like the hit area for all of the links in that box to be increased
@NickCraver Why?

we already made him style 80 sites for the popup

12:53 PM
@NickCraver Well, most of them should have the same style

i'm afraid, because where I sleep is in our company directory...
@YiJiang- negative, totally different colors, heights, etc

Hover styles should also be good

look at diy for example

I'm not a DIY user

photo's top bar: photo.stackexchange.com
they all vary a bit

12:55 PM
Eh, not a photo user either

then, no offense, but I think "Well, most of them should have the same style" is a very uninformed comment :)

They inherit link styles from the parent, their layout should all be the same, unless some sort of global div or table styles are in effect, which they should not be

diy has a dark background and light links
inheriting from the parent isn't always a good thing

DIY's a color is #438ABD, that's not exactly light
I think you might be talking about Physics, but didn't they already pull that design?

the color is: #E9F3FF
that's light...
#E9F3FF on #FFFFFF (the popup) doesn't look good, barely visible...I know because I tested before Jin styled it :)
