4:02 PM
(;

@PopularDemand I've been having huge problems with Gmail in IE 8, and have started to have to use other browsers more.
I also found out recently about the 500 email limit/day.
Now I'm having to find a different email provider for my large lists.

@LanceRoberts Doesn't seem to be my issue, but thanks.

man, the elastic tabstops Gedit implementation is eye stabbing slow :(

I got my shiny stuff!

4:09 PM
yay!
so, is @YiJiang doing a commit next?

Incompetent post office :P

@rchern Erm... no, I'll pull @TimStone's or your's, then attempt to merge with the FF option turned off
@TimStone get's ready to pull out flashing banner

@TimStone I always tell people when I'm in line at the Post Office, "Now imagine the government running Health Care".

Well, what I mean is that I've handled @TimStone's pull request. So what's the next step? (:

NOTIFICATION SPAM
shakes fist at chat Hahah

4:12 PM
@TimStone at least it is a pretty aqua instead of blood red (:
isn't that right @TimStone?

Heheh, this is a good point ;)

@TimStone What? What did you say? I can't hear you!

I +100ed @YiJiang yesterday for demanding that colour be changed ;)

@TimStone Which is why we're still on the MSO Tavern, not the SE one

Argh. WTF. Programmers SE blocked me for "here are an unusual number of requests coming from this IP address." because I was clicking Associate for all my accounts.

4:14 PM
Heh

naughty @spoulson!

I've had that happen before, it decided to like me again after a few seconds. :P

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well this fine first day of November!

@TheUnhandledException It's the second already where I'm living

Yeah, took a couple minutes and works again

4:18 PM
11/01/10

Off to bed, will look into pulling @rchern's repo tomorrow.

I associated a few more accounts and I'm blocked again. :(

Byeeeee...

the base 2 number system from 1 to 3

@YiJiang Doesn't mean I don't wish you a good day ;-)
@YiJiang Or, a restful sleep :-)

4:19 PM
Apparently this blocking feature also blocks all other SE/SO sites

@Fosco new gravatar looks good, but I can only see the small thumbnail versions!
Larger ones have not yet refreshed

@TheUnhandledException No, it has been changed back
(Current one doesn't have the SO TShirt.)

i switched back to a cleanshaven one

Oh, that explains it

Heheh

4:26 PM
that one looked weird
i was pretty high when I made it, and wearing a strange hat
4

Honestly I hardly believe those two can be the same person :P

@Fosco HAHAHA

it was a kangol

We all know you paid some guy on the street $5 to put on the shirt and smile. (;

HAHAHA
So great
Ah HA
Now, back on my desktop at work, I see why (I think) my XMPP client was crashing constantly yesterday
Ah HA
I tried to add balpha as a contact, but instead managed to add him as a gateway
LOL

4:32 PM
o:

@TheUnhandledException A gateway to the land of unicorns

or, equivalently, the SO VPN!!

Exactly correct both @radp and @Tim

where the pre-release unicorns live.

@radp And the unobfuscated chat javascript!

4:34 PM
WANT! (not really.)

@TimStone That's what I'm talkin about man!

Yeah!

@radp DO WANT (YES REALLY)

Have you tried, erm, asking, @The? :)

@radp What, that works?
:-)

4:35 PM
For me, un-minimizing makes the big difference.
It isn't that bad to follow through obfuscated.

@YiJiang I'm sorry, even with the logo change you're still unsupported

@rchern I haven't needed it yet

@rchern It does, it does. It's actually not that hard to follow, but annoying when they update and I have to resync my mental mapping of functions to obscure names.

Firebug has shown me all I've needed, save for some advice @balpha gave me yesterday

At least it's not "Malaysia, Truly Asia"

4:37 PM
that's why we stick to calling .click() (:

I just meant in the sense of following the code path, but also a good point ;)
Hmm...
For some reason the P key refuses to work
...in the sense that it won't do the preview.

What am I missing here?

Q: have a java web service return a Null Web Result

Kenoyer130I have a Java web service that I want to return an item if found for the passed in ID or Null. Right now the client gets an item but its properties are Null. I can check for the item having a null property, but would prefer the item returned itself to be Null. @WebMethod @WebResult(name="item") ...

scratches head
That's a good question.

Can someone @TheUnhandledException me please? I'm trying to test something...

@TheUnhandledException Maybe
Or did you want this, @TheUnhandledException?

4:48 PM
@TimStone Thanks. Very sweet

Rovio!
booo...

I now have Adium on my Mac set up to display a Growl notification whenever someone @s me in here

@TheUnhandledException

Nice :P

So even if I'm in chat on Chrome on my linux laptop (which I am), and I'm coding in NetBeans, I know when I'm being spoken to :-)
That's a reason I wanted XMPP integration, for those who were asking what the point was :-)

4:50 PM
I'm just going to randomly @TheUnhandledException you..
@TimStone Nice Weather @TheUnhandledException We're having...

HAHA
I wonder if I can ignore you in my IM client @Chacha102...

:P

Hm, I probably need to make users work first :-)

I really wish Github wasn't blocked at my school
I could actually work on something

@Chacha102 VPN?

4:52 PM
all ports are blocked but 80 and 443
I know that Git is supposed to be able to be worked on offline..
but that is only if you have a recent pull from the server repo..
and apparently the content filter at my school runs on ASP
because the ASP error page is coming up...
saying that there is something wrong with the code..
haha

5:19 PM
@Chacha102 is your name Bobby, by any chance?

Sigh

@PopularDemand Bobby tables?

I've spent a dozen hours trying to make my limited TrueSkill implementation match the official TrueSkill implementation's results in accuracy

@TheUnhandledException Yes, that's the idea.

Finally I noticed I and the webapp were using a different value for a parameter.

5:20 PM
@PopularDemand Thought so

When I changed that in the webapp, the results matched.
I'm an idiot.
6
In my defense the dozen hours were not consecutive.

@radp Ah, ingenious! You said something bad about yourself, which is likely to be starred. But you don't want to look foolish in the starred list forever.

@PopularDemand yep, I star begged to avoid starring :P

@radp, it is more fun to star when the line doesn't say star me!

im glad my self incriminating phrase from earlier wasn't starred..

5:21 PM
There you go.

@Fosco I almost did

/me pulls up the transcript and looks at @Fosco's messages

I'm headed to lunch. I'll leave you all with this parting thought:

hrm

5:22 PM
where did my script go?

@TheUnhandledException lol

@rchern Fosco stole it so you'd forget about the starring!

hrm
is stackflair.com down for y'all?

Nope, working fine for me.

5:23 PM
@rchern Server Error in '/' Application

yada yada i already tried that >_<

Though the images aren't loading..

hmm, tis back now it seems

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request

5:24 PM
@radp You remind me of this question:
103
A: What question would you have asked as an April Fool?

¡dn ʇǝƃ ʇ,uɐɔ ı puɐ uǝllɐɟ ǝʌɐɥ ı `dlǝɥ

@rchern Yes. Back now

(Well, the comment, anyways.)

OK. Headed out. Later everyone

right then. back to looking for @Fosco's message.

@rchern Probably a red herring.

5:26 PM
damn, she found it.

whistles nonchalantly

Oh, that one? Psh.

@PopularDemand gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/10000/

hmm.
I should put a CV up on careers sometime

@radp Oh, great. Did I miss out on a Gaming SE t-shirt, now?

5:30 PM
@PopularDemand ha

(I actually wouldn't be too broken up about that; not a big fan of the heart logo.)

5:47 PM
@PopularDemand Pun intended?

sites like html5test.com bother me. how am I supposed to know how the score my browser gets holds up to the competition?

@radp No, actually. Didn't notice it 'til now.

Ah ha, hrm...

@rchern "Is it 300? THEN IT SUCKS!!!!!!"
Anyway, I'm upgrading to today's nightly of Chromium just for your reference.
Why is Chromium 9 a 16 megs download anyway when Firefox 4 is, er, 23...
okay, okay.

...

5:56 PM
The .deb packaging may not be as good at compression.
Okay.
Chromium 9.0.570.0 scores 241+13.

o: 8.0.552.23 gets a 231+13

Opera 11.00.1029 gets a 179+7
Tonight's Firefox 4.0b8pre gets a crash.

hahaha

Bug report submitted, eyes rolled.
Chromium 9 loses points in subtitles, MPEG-4 support, <device>, <figure>, <figcaption>, <ruby>, <rt>, <rp>, <time>, Undo history, Microdata, custom scheme handlers, custom content handlers, IndexedDB.

@PopularDemand No .. my name is not bobby
nor does it have a B n it

6:05 PM
@Chacha102 Too bad.

6:29 PM

@radp I don't see a big red circle with a strikethrough. Is that a sign for one of those 31st century suicide booths?

6:50 PM
Quiet day.

Holiday in Italy.
Obviously that's related.

@radp Which gets you out of school, and thus provides you with even more time to waste here.

See, having the Vatican in your territory also gets you some benefits!

@radp This implies that there are drawbacks. Explain.

@PopularDemand Church silence when your PM fucks shit up can be bought with your taxpayers' money.

6:54 PM
@radp No comment, since I know next to nothing about Italian politics.

Gah, too late to edit links in
@PopularDemand * fucks shit up

UH oh
Something is wrong
My user account seems to have been reset

@Moshe Huh?

I logged in today on my iMac and my user account has 101 rep and 0 of everything else
There's some error detection code missing in the sign in and OpenID setup
It seems to have overwritten my account
This is infuriating.

I see 135 MSO rep dating back to late September.
1837 SO rep.
Also >1k on Programmers and SU.

7:01 PM
Well maybe you could email me a link, because on SO, I've not been able to get my account info.

Right, but logging in to SO asks me if I want to associate my OpendID.
If I click no, I get logged out.
I made the mistake of logging in.
My email is no longer associated with that account on SO.
Uh oh.

@Moshe just flag something of yours and request an account merge

@radp - how so?
In the flag, choose "other" and explain there?

Yeah.

7:04 PM
ok let me try that

or email team@stackoverflow.com

I wonder if this has to do with the bug I reported here
5
Q: Site proposal allowing multiple commits from a single user

Popular DemandIt looks to me like one user has committed to the Application Security proposal twice. At the time of this writing, the commits are viewable on this page. At first glance, this looks like a dupe of this bug, but the behavior is actually slightly different in that the rep totals and badges do not ...

It so happens that you were the user I noticed the bug for.

@PopularDemand - Me?
now my chats are not showing up
well, they were not

@Moshe Yes.

@PopularDemand - me?
Ok that worked

7:06 PM
@Moshe Yes.

Also, I logged on in on a friends machine a short while ago and when he logged on with HIS OpenID, I showed as the logged in party, even after clearing the cache and restarting the browser.
After a few tries it, he was able to log in.

You appear to still have two SO accounts.

It can't be just my SO account.
Even stranger, my icon is identical
So there is some weirdness going on in the user account code somewhere.

@Moshe I'll update my bug report.

The problem in running this kind of site is that everybody has feedback as to what the problems are and how to fix it.
@PopularDemand - Thanks. I really appreciate it.
Let me see if my MacBook or iDevices have the same issue.

7:08 PM
@Moshe The icon is based on your email address.

@radp - Really? That's kinda cool.
My iPod touch still sees my old account.
@radp - You on the SO dev team?
iPhone sees the fresh account.
and MacBook autologged me in under the new one.
So:
iPod touch - old account
iPhone, iMac, MacBook - fresh account
This is royally annoying.

@Moshe I would think that you can go about your usual business (except for using the 1k rep tools); everything you do should be saved when the merge happens.

@PopularDemand - Thanks.
For the record, I've read your post. This is definitely not malicious, I want to be able to go about everything normally. I blame this one on some log in code or something. It asked me to create a second account. As far as following the proposal, I have no clue how that happened. I thought A51 was supposed to catch things like that.

@Moshe Nobody said it was; even the diamond explicitly said it wasn't.

@PopularDemand - The diamond was assuming it wasn't, I'm just confirming because he mentioned.

7:17 PM
I wouldn't worry too much about people inventing ghosts there.

Once again, thank you.

No problem.

OpenId has problems. I gave up trying to login to the generic stackexchange.com because it wouldn't take any of my working OpenIds, and wanted me to create a new account.

@LanceRoberts - That very well could be it.

@LanceRoberts Firefox?

7:19 PM
@PopularDemand - I've tried FF and Safari.

@PopularDemand Yes, FF 3.6.12.

@LanceRoberts I wonder if it's related to this:
in Login problems on Chat.SE, Oct 28 at 15:13, by balpha
see if dom.storage.enabled is set to true

@Moshe nope. If I could've, I would've fixed you myself.

7:44 PM
@PopularDemand I just checked, it was set to false, so I set it to true, but StackExchange (and only that site) still doesn't like my OpenId (and I tried both of my pre-existing ones).

@LanceRoberts Yeah, it didn't work for me either.
Other people seemed to have better luck with it.

I love that we star messages of people saying their idiots...
4

(I starred that one for "people saying their idiots")

@MichaelMrozek You're playing right into Bobby's hands!

7:59 PM
@radp Thanks :P

my name is not bobby..

I thought Chacha was spanish for Bobby.

probably not...

Looked it up, short for muchacha, maid or nursemaid.

...

8:12 PM
Congratulations on reaching one skadillion answers , Stack Overflow!

what is a skadillion?

Q: PDO::ATTR_AUTOCOMMIT ignores non-transactional INSERT/UPDATE

Aiden BellHello all, Been scratching my head on this for a while.... I have a PDO object with pdo->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_AUTOCOMMIT,0); as I want to use FOR UPDATE with some InnoDB tables. Reading the MySQL documentation, FOR UPDATE will only lock read rows if: a) You are in a transaction b) You are...

Anyone want in on that

@AidenBell Voted to close.
... that was what you wanted, right?

Yea, totally
@PopularDemand - Yea I was joking about the close

@AidenBell No worries, I don't even have 3k on SO.

8:16 PM
wtf lol

@AidenBell I could see it was your question, I wouldn't actually vote to close just for the joke.
I don't have that kind of commitment.

Somebody voted "not a real question"

@AidenBell Oh, wow.

Also, misread your above comment, hence the delete

(Not having 3k also means I can't see existing close votes, of course.)

8:18 PM
would!=wouldn't
@PopularDemand - Damn scallywags

On a more serious note, I know nothing about PDO.

Does anyone in here have access to who "voted to close" on SO questions :P
@radp - A mother of pearl smartphone case would rock

@AidenBell Look again :P

Ah, Unichorn

8:32 PM
Well, I'm baffled.

Q: have a java web service return a Null Web Result

Kenoyer130I have a Java web service that when no item is found I want a null object to be returned. Instead, I'm getting back an instance with all properties set to null. I can check for the item having a null property, but would prefer the item returned itself to be Null. @WebMethod @WebResult(name="ite...

@PopularDemand I'm not
The result is decorated
either of WebResult or WebMethod change the Null object into a proper answer.

@radp I don't know what that means, but I'm guessing it's like PropertyModel in Wicket?

@WebMethod // ←
@WebResult(name="item") // ←
public item findItem(
eh, decorated/annotated/whatever the Java-ism for that is.

Well, enjoy your upvotes.
(I assume there will be upvotes.)

I'm not replying
I don't know Java annotations enough
I'm probably wrong in assuming Java annotations are like Python decorators

8:45 PM
Wow, not only does DeveloperQuestion follow attribution, it uses SO's flair.
(Doesn't keep up with edits to the question, though.)

@PopularDemand god it looks terrible though

No argument there.
Although... pot, kettle....
(SO needs more Jin)

@PopularDemand true, but at least things line up. :)
between PopularDemand and eFreedom Google is going to get crowded

@ahsteele You mean between DeveloperQuestion and eFreedom?

@PopularDemand just in general I'm already getting duplicate results from Stack Overflow and efreedom
@PopularDemand when searching, so it's just one more site

8:56 PM
@ahsteele You said "between PopularDemand and eFreedom" (emphasis mine).
It threw me for a loop.

It's hard to tell you and DeveloperQuestion apart

@MichaelMrozek You take that back!

@MichaelMrozek Now, DeveloperQuestion and AskUbuntu, maybe....
(Phew, crisis deflected.)

Wow, that site really is horrible. It's not all that difficult to at least choose colors that don't look awful together. There are tools to do it for you automatically
