@SPArcheon Wait, you don't format your website using friendship? gasp
Oct 16, 2023 19:16
@AndreasismovingtoCodidact I'd be careful going too far down that road, given recent events

Q: Practical effects of the October 2023 layoff

PhilippeI hope that by now you’ve all had a chance to read and digest the announcement and the blog post about today’s layoff. This was not an easy decision to make, nor is this an easy conversation to have. At the end, if you squint, I hope you’ll see the faint glimmer of a silver lining. But we have wo...

@Catija You could always tell us what the internal thinking in firing Monica was. They can't fire you for that anymore.
Oct 16, 2023 15:44
@Catija You're not alone there
Oct 16, 2023 15:20
@ShadowTheGPTWizard I don't think this will lead to a strike. I think lots of folks are going to resign
Oct 16, 2023 15:12
@ShadowTheGPTWizard There will be one, come hell or high water. I'm just trying to give other employees an opportunity first
Oct 16, 2023 15:08
@Catija SOCVR is one place you can get to. And we added you to the former SO mod room
Dec 13, 2022 15:08
@ShadowTheKidWizard FWIW they have one non-spam deleted Q on SO. 5 years old too.
Dec 13, 2022 14:54
@ShadowTheKidWizard Bleh. Someone edited the spam out. Might want to revert next time
Feb 18, 2021 20:42
@JasonC And she's still the head CM (waves at Sara)
Oct 28, 2020 16:44
@Spevacus I suggested Professional Geek. Geek10 was too cliche :P
Oct 19, 2020 20:55
I think people are conflating this with chat having issues earlier
Oct 19, 2020 14:05
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Really need to turn off spacebar overheating
Oct 19, 2020 13:43
@Luuklag So they're really not beating up blue guys?
Sep 11, 2020 16:26
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yes. If you breathe it in you won't live long enough to die from Covid
Sep 11, 2020 15:45
@Rob Dang Covid mandates...
Sep 11, 2020 14:47
Clear socks don't need escalation
Sep 11, 2020 14:47
@mag Per the CMs, they don't think they can handle 60 a week yet. I would suggest 1-2 per day to start, prioritizing socks
Sep 11, 2020 14:18
Get Fiber internet
Sep 11, 2020 13:59
Serial voting reversal happens as an event in your voting. Vote invalidations do not show like that. The votes just go away and your reputation graph goes up/down
Sep 11, 2020 13:55
@mag Most are not that sophisticated. I found one where the sock asked a question and the other socks (and master) answered and upvoted
Sep 11, 2020 13:54
@Ollie Yeah
Sep 11, 2020 13:34
Consider waiting on any major actions until the CM burn is done. I've had 5k serial voting rep reversed this morning alone. You might find some of them have just been waiting on invalidation
Sep 11, 2020 13:26
Not surprising
Sep 11, 2020 13:25
60 per week isn't bad IMO. If the tools verify they're socks, they go fast and Martjin does a lot of them every week, probably via the internal list
Sep 11, 2020 13:20
@mag Let me see what the other mods would be comfortable with as a rate. 100 per day would fill the custom queue up really fast
Sep 11, 2020 13:18
@gnat I've seen it floating around but I haven't had time to look into it. As I said, it's a time intensive process
Sep 11, 2020 13:09
Largest voting ring was around 10k sockpuppets (was a long time ago). That's not an exaggeration either. I suspect a lot of mod and CM tooling got written to help catch that much earlier
Sep 11, 2020 13:03
When I nuked the old sock, all that rep went away, despite the age of the votes
Sep 11, 2020 13:03
I found a guy earlier this week who had a 2-year old sock and had done about a dozen upvotes and not got caught. So last month he rolled up 3 more and that caught our attention
Sep 11, 2020 13:01
There's a recalculation process that kicks off when any kind of reversal happens
Sep 11, 2020 13:00
I had voting ring escalations from yesterday handled today. That's never happened since I got modded

Sep 11, 2020 12:59
Heh. I wouldn't drop 100 a day in. Voting stuff is a feast or famine thing. Sometimes the tools make it clear they are socks or voting rings. But voting rings are also one of the most time intensive mod things out there
Sep 11, 2020 12:54
He's been playing with a bot he wrote
Sep 11, 2020 12:54
He's a SOCVR regular
Sep 11, 2020 12:53
These are just notices to people that their voting schemes have been foiled by some meddlesome kids and their dog
Sep 11, 2020 12:44
I've been slinging targeted voting notices myself this morning
Sep 11, 2020 12:43
And if you're not already aware, CMs are focusing the backlog this week
Sep 11, 2020 12:40
Well, to clarify, if you dump 400 in at once that might not the greatest. Maybe pace yourself too
Sep 11, 2020 12:28
@mag I don't see any problem with it. If you're not familiar with Dharman, he's been trying to do the same thing. Could be worth coordinating efforts
Jun 18, 2020 22:51
@SonictheStay-HomeHedgehog Good stuff. Thanks for the change
Jun 18, 2020 22:22
@SonictheStay-HomeHedgehog I consolidated the two and made the wording more concise in one bullet

Unfortunately, the .Net mobile push library we use hasn't been actively maintained since mid-2016, a little before Apple announced the feature. So far, it's been more effective to have someone spend a couple hours a year renewing the certificate than spend the time to invest in a new library. — Brian Nickel ♦ 12 mins ago

Hmm
Mar 10, 2020 19:38
A bit. Maybe 15 mins.
Mar 10, 2020 19:36
In that same vein, I just got a captcha in trying to answer on a site where I have well beyond Trusted User rep. Is that a one-off thing?
Mar 9, 2020 19:10
@πάνταῥεῖ Yep
Mar 9, 2020 18:49
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou It was only 25 days ago. Come on! Pay attention! :P
