@Mithical that would involve Tink being foolish enough to want more work :D

@Glorfindel Can you please do the same thing that you did to another question, where you temporarily undeleted a question to crawl it to the Wayback Machine, then re-deleted it, to this question? I'd like to replace the removed link in revision 51 here with an archive link.

6:53 AM
@bad_coder I'm not sure what game you're playing at, but it ends here. I've gotten a second pair of eyes on this (and more context), and you're seriously starting to overstep the boundaries of what is proper conduct. I'm not your friend/buddy/mentor, and I'd appreciate it if you could just keep proper distance and respect.
I know there might probably have been plenty of mistakes on my part that gave you a false impression, so let me be clear: We're not friends, the only interactions I have with you is because you're a internet rando that does stuff that needs moderation. That's all, there's nothing more.

7:15 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Don't you mean revision 57? I rolled that back for now.

@Luuklag Yeah, I mistyped
@bad_coder You are told that you cannot edit the bounty remark once you set it, so if I were a mod, I'd decline such flags out of hand.
One statistic: about 60%+ of questions that get asked on this site get closed (looking at the past 30 and 90 days)
This means that according to 2020 closure statistics, we have the second highest closure rate on the network, second only to Network Engineering

8:09 AM
@Tinkeringbell well this is a weird (over) reaction. Usually folks make a party in chat at 10k-20k (or getting the gold badge). That's usually accompanied by some personal comment, in this case I thought I'd thank a mod (did you never see award winning speeches, they always thank someone?!)
@Tinkeringbell your reaction to 2 neutral adjectives is very strange indeed.

@bad_coder I don't care and didn't ask what you think is appropriate. I'm telling you I find your behavior here, and across several instances, inappropriate. And like I said, I asked a second pair of eyes to take a look first, so I'm pretty damn sure I'm not 'overreacting'.
Do with it what you like, at your own risk.

@Tinkeringbell what do you mean inappropriate? That's vague.

8:25 AM
See the messages above, it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out.
I've been pretty clear.

@Tinkeringbell well, maybe I have the wrong impression of what "normal" or "appropriate" is. Because I've spent the last 500 days (with few exceptions) on SOCVR and conversations there are frequently full of good humor, frequently based on absurdness and oddity. The assume good intentions goes a long way there and I don't think anyone has had reasons to speak ill of me.
saying "thank you for your kindness and patience" is probably the most normal thing a person can say.

if anything, continuing the interaction now is not welcome. That much should be obvious. Move on.

@rene done.

@rene moving on, and archiving ;)

9:22 AM
@tripleee only needs one more it appears
both already have mine

yeah, hoping somebody else in here is available to cast the missing flags

flagged, but still up

@Mithical oh great someone downvoted without flagging.

or did both...

@Mithical pleads guilty
@Sonic web.archive.org/web/20211008092720/https://… - snapshot made, but it takes a few minute to be available

9:31 AM
The court finds @Glorfindel guilty of willful confusing downvoting, with intent to increase vote count. The defendant is sentenced to raising an additional 1,000 flags and 50 hours of community service in the form of edits.

@Mithical Measuring hours of community service in edits is the weirdest way ... He can just open an 'edit' page on a second screen and leave it there for 50 hours before submitting :P

please don't poke holes in my starbait

Hey, if you want to catch something, you'll have to poke a hole with a hook in some bait!

So, i'm not totally certain (call it 90% or so right now) but I suspect my laptop and/or browser has been inhabited by demons. Demons that don't want to see me doing any work. (And i'm trying to decide whether said habitation bothers me or not). Also, g'morning..\

Isn't a matter of whether it bothers you, but whether it bothers your boss. If it does, they're the one responsible for setting you up with a proper exorcist.

I like the way you think. You sound like an expert. Wanna be a consultant?

11:21 AM
Already am, and hating it :P

(incidentally, that's pretty much what working in tech in the first dot com bubble was like.. "hey baby, wanna be a consultant? Wanna develop an app?")

@Philippe If those demons cause you to be here, then they're simply changing what work you're doing, not entirely preventing it. I'd call this a win, actually...

Yeah, that's why I'm not certain that I want to condemn them quite yet
Anyway, how are things in the Tavern?

It's serving double-duty as a court, apparently.

I saw the starred list.... :-/
Poor Glorfindel.
I can only imagine that the punishments meted out here are epicly creative.

11:23 AM
I mean, it's really nothing he wouldn't be doing anyway, to be fair :D

(BTW, are you familiar with Karma Court over on reddit?)

I am not... I tend to avoid Reddit for the most part.

Karma Court is a fun sub. r/karmacourt. It's like.... 4th grade mock trial meets acid trip.
(and therefore it's also got a passing likeness to Wikipedia's arbitration committee.)
/So yeah, I hope Glor got due process and all that. At least a passing attempt at it so I can say there's nothing to be concerned with. Otherwise, I might have to send in JNat to write a report. And that will make him grumbly.

@Philippe that reminds me that I still have a Wikipedia page draft sitting in a text file somewhere that I keep forgetting to finish...

You know, in my 13 years of active contribution there, i'm not 100% sure that I ever wrote an article from scratch?
I did a lot of cleanup of other peoples' articles, but it turns out, I kinda suck at writing them from scratch.

11:35 AM
I have written exactly one that actually met the guidelines :p

They created a sheltered space for new users a few years back - the Teahouse - between that and their version of review queues, it got a lot easier to get help on that.
But the standards and guidelines are complex. And some of those folks can quote chapter and verse of the general notability guideline, or of copyright law, or any other obscure thing

I figured most professional athletes would meet the notability requirements when it came to creating new pages.

Most shouid.
should too.
It really kinda depends though. They have to have significantly contributed to a major match/event.
and have reliable secondary sources to back it up.

yep

A decent chunk of my time used to be spent telling people who wanted wikipedia articles written about them that they REALLY didn't want that.

11:45 AM
wikipedia doesn't have great coverage of the sports I'm interested in in general, and especially the women's races
including lacking articles for e.g. world champions

Yeah, there was a wonderful article about that during the olympics - can't remember who wrote it - but there's no question that Wikipedia's editor gender gap impacts things like articles about women's sports.
That's why we were so concerned about the gender gap when I was there -you can't truly claim to be the Sum of All Human Knowledge when you have gaps the size of small countries in coverage of anyone who doesn't have a Y chromosome.

To be fair... you need people interested in women's sport and stuff... just adding a bunch of female editors would probably not help there, if none of them are interested in writing about such things :P

@Mithical oh no... Not the fluffy bed...
@Philippe I was a desktop support engineer for over a decade. Its definitely demons and threatening it works

Agree. But if we look at the totality of topics that had a coverage gap, basically, adding anhy woman with interest in ANYTHING would be an improvement.
JG, threatening it? Good to know. I was using the kick method.

@Philippe It can't be that bad, is it?

11:56 AM
what, Wikipedia or the laptop? :)
(if you mean Wikipedia, yes. It can. 91 point gender gap. If you mean the laptop, well, it might not have been, but once i"m done with the kick method, it will be.)

Oh, I believe you on the gender gap... but not on the 'adding any woman with an interest in anything would be an improvement'. :)
Can't be that bad, I'm sure the articles on e.g. lego are fine.
I've never seen an exorcist work through kicking, I think JG was right and that threats are the way to go.

Tinkeringbell, I have not come across a single area of wikipedia that deals with a woman where the article is in equal or better condition than a similar one of a man. To be fair, I haven't looked in a while, and they have been running some initiatives around it.
Female nobel prize recipients, huge gaps. Poets, scientists, musicians... .all had major gaps that didn't exist for men in the same fields.

@Philippe Oh, but that requires an interest in those actual people then.. not in 'anything' ;)

quite right, your phrasing is better than mine :)

12:41 PM
@Tinkeringbell TECHNICALLY, I'm also a priest (by heritage).... prayer usually works less well than threats.

You keep coming up with surprising ways to describe yourself :P

@Tinkeringbell And a culture where they feel ok

All I really know about wikipedia is that there is this Dutch guy, from the looks of it one really autistic one, who reads a lot of pages out loud for those visually impaired

@Philippe one "advantage" (and disadvantage) SE has is - least in theory, someone can learn the platform on any site they feel comfortable, then use that and their SMEness elsewhere. The disadvantage is.... we don't really do that, and most people don't go past SO
As for wiki - ehhh. I don't know the community(s) enough to comment on gender/knowldge disparities, and I feel like there's a paper to be written there :D
@Tinkeringbell the whole matchmaking thing is due to that

1:00 PM
@JourneymanGeek Hmm. I've never written a wiki article, but from looking at a few about people specifically, I'd say you need a.) someone interested in writing biogaphies and b.) a person that's interesting enough to have enough news paper articles/sources/scandals about them that make for a substantial wiki article :P
@JourneymanGeek Ah yeah you did mention it had something to do with religion and birth... I just never picked up on the priest thing before

@Tinkeringbell well "Bramins" are "Priests" - though there's temple priests, scholars, and such

+ it was useful for the purpose of the joke :D

@JourneymanGeek That's very true :)

1:55 PM
Tink, journey, for you to nuke: meta.stackexchange.com/a/370679/361484
not really spam, but nothing sensible either

@Luuklag already done 😁

2:23 PM
He's just too fast. Can't keep up.

@Luuklag R/A flag would work for rubbish posts

Genshin (gacha game) had a contest where 10% of the partecipants would win a 5$ worth prize (a sort of monthly subscription called "Welkin"), 90% would just get a consolation prize.
Comment on reddit from salty user that did not win:
> I am so salty I just bought a Welkin from the store with my money instead.
...

...

Some users are kinda weird.
Take notice SE, next time you do a contest for some swag, put the swag on sale after the contest end too.
Some may be so angry at you... to give you money to buy that instead

@Feeds cooking tips: oneboxes vs one-oxes

@Feeds Best practices for one-boxing?
@Philippe I enjoy hearing you gripe about it. I still didn't know all the mod tools and where they all were after 2 years as an RPG.SE mod :P
@Philippe The me of it?
@Philippe Ooh, so KeyserSosa does exist... :P
@Philippe All technology runs on demons. Little-known fact.
@Philippe The most entertaining part is when some new user is upset with your moderation and thinks /r/KarmaCourt is serious and the proper way to express their displeasure.
@Philippe I've never written an article from scratch on Wikipedia, but I did basically write the substantive part of the current D&D Beyond article. :)
(And now I'm caught up on the Tavern)

5:00 PM
@V2Blast brews a cup of darjeeling tea for @V2Blast
