We have the headcount for 1 more (and having that would be a massive boost for both morale and efficency) but... we don't seem to have hired them yet...
We can skip things like what the network is for, how mods work, etc.... but there's a mindset shift that has to take place, and a WHOLE bunch of CM specific processes and tools.
My team is so sick of hearing me gripe about this.
I mentioned it in front of Yaakov, right after our 1 on 1 in which I railed about it for 10 minutes..... and he did the virtual equivalent of rolling his eyes and looking for the exit.
Well - I suspect part of it (and ironically this was seen as a good thing) was basically a mix of "this sounds like a good idea, build it!" and "ugh, we can't wait, lets just throw together an MVP"
So you'd have stuff like shog building a absolutely brilliant tool for finding voting rings...
then it never seeing the light of day after being used for one particularly sticky incident on AU
I also think that there are probably some tasks that staff is handling right now that we don't need to be. There's room for the creation of new user roles, if we can identify what they should be.
We do see some cases where a mod team has been isolated and wasn't aware that we could help with a particular problem, because they weren't communicating cross teams.
(to some extent - a little more than we should. I think some of the old-timers like myself need to get used to the idea we can CM-escalate again, since we got into the mindset of avoiding it for everything but the most extreme situations)
(and while I'm not going to push for anything specific cough - having a platform to 'flag'/annotate a user across sites would be nice, and solve a few problems :D )
At reddit, we had a great team called "Anti-Evil Engineering", headed by a dude named Chris Slowe (who was the founding engineer and later became CTO there). He was BRILLIANT
They did things with data that I swear involved two witches and the eye of a newt.
You think. What if your sock just disliked mustard? I'd cave in to a sockhunter who had, for instance, truffle oil. I dont sock, but i'd give in to get away from the smell.
@EkadhSingh-ReinstateMonica apparently (and I suspect the muppet count alludes to this), if you throw seeds in front of a vampire, they need to stop and count them
JG, I do too, oddly. I think it might have been on the earliest version that i saw of mine (when i was hired, into the T&S role) but wasn't on the official final one.
My cookies are always small. I like mini desserts so I make small cookies and mini cupcakes. I like people feeling like they can try just one... and then they eat a dozen without realizing it.
@Catija Well in theory, if I sleep when I should be awake at night, the entire system will fail and we'll be overrun with uh... wait, the borders are closed :D
@Rob with 2300 posts, I get maybe 10 rep a day from random upvote on old post, rarely more. (on MSE)
@bobble nope, they never fixed it. It's rather a perfect candidate for this close reason:
> No longer reproducible
> The problem described here can no longer be reproduced. Changes to the system or to the circumstances affecting the asker have rendered it obsolete. If you encounter a similar problem, please post a new question.
They changed the /about page, and the bug is "gone".
Sadly I can't vote to close it myself, for some reason I've cast close vote in the past on my question.
@Philippe maybe he's acting under cover to catch cookie thieves? :D
Hmm weird, anyone knows why this movie suddenly got attention? Just read article about it in my local newspaper, and the Wiki page says "as of October 2021 the film remains unreleased". What bumped this out of the grave? lol
@Tinkeringbell yeah, its all really strange still. He passed away friday, just like that. Super healthy guy, biked the "elfstedentocht" last summer, and then just had a heart attack
@Luuklag this happened with my boss (CEO), one of his sons died all of a sudden in the age of 30 or so, few years ago. Turned out he had some very rare heart failure which can be genetic. Luckily the others don't have it.
@Luuklag not really a turd, it's on topic just.... way too broad and messy. With proper guidance, OP might be able to re-post something that will make sense and even be helpful. :)
then I get an email asking me to pull some data, one minute later I get a whatsapp for another request that's almost the same, and a third person letting me know I have both requests...
while I'm typing out the query(s) that they sent ._.
@bad_coder re your flag: we can't correct typos either. If I've done it right though, you should now be able to put up a new bounty instead (and be refunded the rep for the first one)
PSA: I'm not going to always fix anyone's bounties, and not every mod may agree this was something that needed fixing. don't see this as an invitation to just flag for any minor typo, you may end up with declined flags. XD
@Tinkeringbell Thanks I didn't know mods couldn't change bounty messages, but I did find an answer saying so right afterwards when I was looking into a possible bug.
I saw a hilarious bad edit involving Roman numerals a month or two ago. I can't remember which site it was, or the exact details, but it was something like: "The claim in part I is incorrect". The editor changed it to "The claim in part I am incorrect".
