@rene Speaking of vote unlocking, I just remembered: an unintended consequence of the pre-February 2013 closure as duplicate system was that if a post you upvoted was later closed as a duplicate, you could remove your upvote and change it to a downvote (for lack of research). But the newer system doesn't allow for that.
@Tinkeringbell As far as I'm aware, CMs can't reverse single votes; they can only remove all votes that a user cast on another user's posts. (This would include not only up/down votes, but also accept votes and bounty awards.)
@Luuklag Not really. But part of it is repetitive :) It's... my workload right now is split across teams, and some of it overlaps... we're now doing a refinement but since half the team wasn't involved with the other half of the other team, we're now repeating stuff a bit XD
There are still plenty of meetings in my calendar that could've been emails though ;)
Days like this, where I get a push notification telling me to not take a train because of a massive malfunction in the telephone systems basically crippling the whole country... make me glad I now have a car and work from home XD
Yeah, I guess I would do so too, if the client had kept the office space near Utrecht CS. It's an hour and 10 minutes from here to there, by train. But I would spend the same amount of time in traffic, most likely.
@Luuklag no, next is integrating coffee making into code writing. Coffee machine will be connected to the developer's computer, and when it will identify the developer starts to slow down, it will make a coffee automatically.
@JourneymanGeek most of the times there's a legit & valid reason behind it. I worked (with other devs) on doing (some part of the) theming via CSS variables. Lots of effort went into keeping everything looking the same on public sites (and we got it, only one report about us missing a thing on the mobile theme). We spent a lot of time on it, and it simplified the Enterprise theming story significantly. But from the outside, it could be seen as a questionable thing to spend time on.
wrt politics and SE's direction... I don't... I can't... I... well, it's... complicated. But the quality of the devs doing the work and the care they put on it is something I'll cherish
which is what makes it so freaking rad IMO (how trivial it seems)
@JourneymanGeek I agree that things like fixing revisions page to have consistent display of reputation is more important, but meh.... I'm not the one who decide.
@RandomPerson I'm afraid you don't have many options that you would like.... if it's important you can send contact form to Stack Exchange, and they'll handle it, but it will take time.
Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties. The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May. The holiday was observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970.Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the U.S. military. Many volunteers place an American flag on graves of military personnel in national cemeteries. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the...
I believe there was a meta question about that, but I forgot/couldn't find it. The point is more about getting the new mods ready, because it's not that simple when you suddenly get access to many potentially dangerous tools.
Aside from the technical limitation (if it's still applied until now), here's what the ex-CM answered:
dmckee and Tim Stone pretty much nailed it:
It takes time and effort - from the SE staff, the existing moderators, and the community at large - to bring a new moderator up to speed. There are certainly some candidates who could probably hit the ground running, but there's no guarantee they'll b...
@MetaAndrewT. the technical issue is no longer a concern. The bigger issue now is that there's not a huge outpouring of interest. The number of candidates has been very depressed.
Yeah ... we've talked in Charcoal about these reports
There is something that sure needs reporting but I doubt red-flagging 10 upvoted posts to put the account back at 1 is the correct action in this case.
@rene We do. Mods kind of get around that due to automatically being privileged. Plus, the way that that particular mod started out was due to uh... A specific user that's now network-wide suspended for an incredible amount of time.
Yeah, it is a bit daunting as well. I mean, I assume those diamonds know what they are doing so if you have to question their actions your first intuition is what am I missing?
@Spevacus Switch to the SoBotics room, where everything is functional. You'll miss @rene as I've not seen them there, or any of the others; the only daunting is picking your Bot(s) and filtering out the rest.
Naw, I don't mind seeing all the mods there. In fact, I do feel a sense of pride for them, as many of them were not moderators when I had joined Charcoal.
I'm merely remarking upon how many there are, and how the user:diamond ratio was once much different.
