@Feeds hmm. Podcast about the community a thon. Has transcripts. Y U No One box

6:31 AM
my podcast debut

> PF Who has favorites? I am increasingly in love with the workplace, which might be the most fascinating. I’m in love with Workplace.

BP It’s like an episode of The Office. It just never fails to generate ridiculously inappropriate questions, but nothing but hilarious answers here.
XD Me likes that :D

@SmokeDetector Hey I just woke up
@mag finished The Stone Sky yesterday morning, BTW

6:49 AM
@Tinkeringbell I hope Ben's response was sarcastic

I don't :P
@YaakovEllis Minor nitpick: It's 'Interpersonal Skills', not just interpersonal like so many off-topic questions seem to think....

@Tinkeringbell yeah, sorry. I was speaking off the cuff there

podcasts are hard...
(blog posts seem hard too, given how often I see some mod or another comment on some thing that ended up in a podcast or blog post that probably shouldn't have been there...)

yeah. they are each hard in different ways. The podcast is so stressful though - I know what I am talking about, but you still need to have it come out of your mouth in an understandable way, in real time

Hah. There's a reason I often refuse to talk English out loud ;)

6:56 AM
and with blog posts, no matter how many people review them, always seems to be things that need to be fixed after - same with the big meta posts (and there we have the post history public, so anyone can see your mess-ups afterwards)

@Tinkeringbell I would give minor issues on a podcast a pass

well, hopefully I got the next few sentences about IPS right

@JourneymanGeek If it's not one of 'my' sites, sure :P
@YaakovEllis Mwah. Sorta :P

@Tinkeringbell kill 'em with fire
Whispers "SU is for Windows only" and runs away
"You can ask debugging questions on Programmers.SE"

7:00 AM
I would've never said "they say you are allowed to post subjective opinions but"... because opinions are still clearly on the wrong side of the graph... 'subjective' sites are supposed to go for the expertise in the middle not the stuff under subjective ;) ... but that's probably more of the 'I would've said it different if I had the balls to speak English out loud on a podcast'.

Or I like this one too
Whispers "we don't need subjective sites on SE, they suck"

@YaakovEllis well dev can redact revision, erasing any trace that mess up ever occurred... ;)

@Tinkeringbell Do you have an awesome Dutch accent, or
I should listen to that podcast to laugh at people's accents

My accent is Australian, somehow.

@M.A.R. There's definitely a Dutch accent. I would call it cringy though, not awesome.

7:02 AM
My accent is . . . I have no idea
But I guess somehow German, because Germans and Persians talk English with the same accents

Let me see if I can find some footage that illustrates the horror of Dutch accents.

@Tinkeringbell Aw pssht. So humble

@M.A.R. I mean my Hebrew accent. Lol

@Yaakov tried his best but his accent is noticeable :P
He's doing great tho

7:07 AM
what did I run into?

Yaakov for prasident
@rene A wall, sir are you feeling okay?

THERE'S A TRANSCRIPT *happy dance*

Please look into my hand while I flash something annoying into your eyes

@M.A.R. I can support that ...

*Prime Minister

7:08 AM
@Mithical God save the queen

@M.A.R. how would you identify my accent?

@M.A.R. hasn't she been around long enough

@YaakovEllis with listening
@Mithical she looks like she can go for 200 more years give or take

@rene Louis van Gaal? Come on, you know him, right?

@Mithical yes, but the alternative isn't much better ...

7:10 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask we generally dont do that unless something needs to be redacted. I cant remember ever redacting or seeing someone else redacting a routine edit, even if it is embarassing

I'm mostly joking though, you're doing great Yaakov. I don't think I can speak English like that

@M.A.R. no, I mean, where do you think my accent is from?

With a podcast, I'd probably be bored into my second sentence

@Tinkeringbell who? ;)

@rene Hah. You just flattered me. I know more soccer people than a guy! XD

7:11 AM
@YaakovEllis Uh, I'm not sure. But it's there
@Tinkeringbell isn't that the guy who

@YaakovEllis New York

well, doesnt everyone have an accent then?

Nope. What about the guy who
Nope

@Mithical never lived there

@YaakovEllis Yeah, but I mean, look at the other participants of the show. The Americanness of their accent is showing

7:12 AM
@M.A.R. He's definitely the guy who.

to clarify: a NY Jewish accent, which is distinct from a NY accent

@Tinkeringbell Lol Dutch accent is awesome
American accents on the whole, except the extreme southern accents and some other non-rhotic accents, remind you of effortlessly shredding carrots
I don't personally like it too much, that I can say

@M.A.R. You have weird definitions of awesome.

@Tinkeringbell what the heck is uh, Claudiolus flower?

Gladiolus (from Latin, the diminutive of gladius, a sword) is a genus of perennial cormous flowering plants in the iris family (Iridaceae).It is sometimes called the 'sword lily', but is usually called by its generic name (plural gladioli).The genus occurs in Asia, Mediterranean Europe, South Africa, and tropical Africa. The center of diversity is in the Cape Floristic Region. The genera Acidanthera, Anomalesia, Homoglossum, and Oenostachys, formerly considered distinct, are now included in Gladiolus. == Description == Gladioli grow from rounded, symmetrical corms, (similar to crocuses) that are...

7:16 AM
"You're either dead or you pick the Gladiolus flower"

@YaakovEllis not counting the fact the damn thing evolves, I've never heard two people describe my (english) accent the same way :D

I've got no clue what my accent sounds like in English

Every English reporter be like

@M.A.R. "De dood of de gladiolen" > Death or gladiolus flowers. Meaning: I'll take a gamble for everything or nothing. Probably related to competitive cycling, where the winner would get a large bouquet of such flowers upon winning.

Nice

7:20 AM
@JourneymanGeek I also have this weird thing where I subconsciously mimic the accent of the person I'm talking to. It makes talking another language even worse XD

#multilingual_perks

@Tinkeringbell I've had it described as "British", "American" "That Indian Professor I had in uni"....

"British American"

I'm sure if you asked each of the mod council folks (who have heard me) I suspect you would get a different answer :D

ZOMG there are secret meetings?
Now I want a user council

7:22 AM
That's called discord.

@M.A.R. We had a zoom call :D

Me, rene, Sha, Mith
An accent blender

@M.A.R. It's... really not a perk. I managed to pick up a French accent on top of a Dutch one recently :/

Maybe add in some Americans to even things out
@Tinkeringbell Now you can sound funny not to one, but to two peoples!

@M.A.R. You need to get your own hoods and torches, and make sure to book the secret ritual basement at least 2 weeks in advance.

7:24 AM
Fun fact: The Persian Persians laugh at my accent when I talk in Persian
Actually, this is a more recent phenomenon. As a kid I talked Persian more often

@M.A.R. My tamil accent is basically more defined by "time" than "location"

And I have an English accent when I'm speaking in my mother tongue

I speak basically the tamil equivilent of a scottish person speaking RP, only its very 70s tamil :D

A fun person to hang around for this very reason. You can pick a sentence of mine and laugh at how I pronounce /r/ or similar

(There's certain quirks to the reigional variation I am more comfortable with, like referring to everyone with the respectful singular they...)

7:26 AM
But sadly I haven't had the opportunity to be laughed at by Englishmen and that's one of the life goals to fix
@JourneymanGeek You have singular they's in scottish Tamil?

@M.A.R. Actually its more of a literally southern accent.

@JourneymanGeek The English or the Scottish Tamil?

@M.A.R. yes

3 years and I still couldn't make Journey type replies or respond to "or"s with anything other than 'yes'

Next time, try 'and' instead of 'or' ;)

7:31 AM
@Tinkeringbell iirc the answer would be "no" unless its both yes? :D

I think, yes :)

therefore you are... maybe....

Oh, I am, I just don't know what :P

@Tinkeringbell that has kept many philosophers awake at night.

7:33 AM
Also 53s "That's a stupid question I think"
@rene on meta

> SC Stephanie! Yeah, your a big parenting.
I feel like that transcripted wrong

@M.A.R. Well, since they were talking about soccer, that goes for all questions and answers in that conversation :P

@JourneymanGeek What if they're a big parenting?

what does that even mean? :D

As opposed to small parenting, of course

7:43 AM
@YaakovEllis you're too צדיק. :D
@M.A.R. hey I'm not small. Parent.
:P

> Tzadik is a title in Judaism given to people considered righteous, such as biblical figures and later spiritual masters.
Yaakov is an airbender?

@M.A.R. yup
People who do only what's good and just and fair.
Like @Yaakov, you know. :)

@M.A.R. maybe a code bender

@JourneymanGeek No such thing
I have an urge to pronounce things like that Dutch guy

Go for it :)

7:53 AM
@M.A.R. so move to USA? ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask least on the mod side, redactions are still a bit too fiddly for hiding crimes :D

@JourneymanGeek mod need approval, no?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask and needs to be from a specific revision and...
it usually takes a bit of thinking and co-ordination :D
Easier to threaten people with warm gifts in their shoes

8:26 AM
Long time without a photo, so have some tomato shoots

@M.A.R. Are you saying I ask stupid questions?

@Mithical I think you need some weed killers.

@rene What, no, I'm saying, joking that that's you when you look at meta's frontpage
Nervous about Poe's law

@Tinkeringbell *eyeroll* You should like tomatoes, they're red

@Mithical They're not red enough for me to like them ;)

8:29 AM
Blasphemy

No amount of redness can make up for the taste of tomato

It tastes grrrreat
Does SEDE log review bans?

@M.A.R. no

Shucks. Would have been good to make a point and tell the review banned to go learn about reviewing first, because my impression is it's heavily skewed towards new reviewers (A spike at 500+ rep and another at 2000+ rep)

9:11 AM
Ugh
Made a stupid mistake at work (suppressed alerts for tommorow, not this morning) cause i am too damned exhausted from all the night shifts

I've been complaining about it. We've been short handed and the schedule I have is basically wearing me out
Been applying elsewhere but no real luck
Part of me wants to just quit and take a break so I can just get some rest but I can't really afford to do that
And my parents are nagging me about changing my job. They should be focusing on matchmaking

@DavidPostill heh 😁

The Social Development Network (SDN), formerly of Social Development Unit (SDU) and Social Development Service (SDS), is a governmental body under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports of Singapore (now the Ministry of Social and Family Development), which works closely with the community and commercial sectors to foster opportunities for singles to interact in social settings in Singapore. Besides coordinating and facilitating dating activities offered by the private sector, it also serves to educate the public on singlehood issues. Other responsibilities of the SDN inclu...
Nothing equivalent in North America, at least not government run.

10:12 AM
@Rob I'm aware of it. I'm part of a very small, rather orthodox hindu community
so that's not an option

Rob
Got to meet someone at church I guess.

there's sites for that sorta thing

Rob
Technology and orthodox is unorthodox ?
14
Q: Is there an Orthodox Hinduism?

James JenkinsOrthodoxy in Christianity is the holding to the oldest beliefs. It is of course impossible for the religion not to evolve at all as new questions and there answer have to addressed. The "Orthodox" version is often considered to be the least evolved sect of a religion. Does the concept of Orthod...

@Rob Well practically there's a whole spectrum of different cultures, and a whole spectrum of observances
but If I knew I'd need to matchmake myself, I'd just go date someone, instead of being all goody two shoes and trusting the last generation to do things like the generation before D:

Rob
What could the advantage of having someone else choose for you; maybe the parents like each other (and hopefully have no falling out), but how does that work for their children liking each other - and only to disappoint the parents if there's a problem.

10:25 AM
In the old days - there used to be a sort of registry for folks to find people of a specific group.

Rob
Better to match yourself.

@Rob Its a very small pool of people and frankly
Its their duty and I kinda expect them to make the effort.
I mean, if I can work, and take care of the dog, and buy the groceries, I can get them to spend 10 minutes on the internet and make 2-3 phone calls a week.
Or just be honest enough to admit they don't really want to make the effort

Rob
So they should fly back to their parent's town/village, find someone, and bring them back to Singapore - ...

\o/
Works for me

Rob
There ya go.

10:32 AM
But that isn't happening 😁

Rob
I hope no one does that for me.
Sometimes it's not all it's cracked up to be. If I had married someone that I knew from my highschool 99.9% chance I'd be sad, like the divorced guys who hooked up with those girls. It wasn't until 20 years out of highschool that an improved group of people came along, moving helped too.

Well moving is on the cards for 2022/2023

10:51 AM
@JourneymanGeek for some it's not a threat... :D
@Mithical thanks!

Rob
I was going to suggest, don't want to overstep boundaries, but if you all moved back you wouldn't be "part of a very small" group.

@Rob uh
Actually we're a very small group, even in the old country
Indian culture has rediclous amounts of "divisions" within itself

Rob
Hmmm

So - I'm a tamil (linguistic) Bramin (caste), there's subdivisions between "saivite" and "Vaishnavite" bramins
there's also different levels of observances

head spins
singing "We're All Humans"
:D
@Rob my brother is in the other 0.1% then.
He married a girl he knew from highschool, and he's not sad.

10:58 AM
There's a lot of different cultures, and social contracts, and what people are ok with :D

Rob
There's Thailand (and other nearby areas):
Brahmin (; Sanskrit: ब्राह्मण) are a varna (class) in Hinduism. They specialised as priests (purohit, pandit, or pujari), teachers (acharya or guru) and protectors of sacred learning across generations.The traditional occupation of Brahmins was that of priesthood at the Hindu temples or at socio-religious ceremonies and rite of passage rituals such as solemnising a wedding with hymns and prayers. Theoretically, the Brahmins were the highest ranking of the four social classes. In practice, Indian texts suggest that Brahmins were agriculturalists, warriors, traders and have held a variety of other...
Or here:

@Rob wrong end

@JourneymanGeek Shaolin masters know no weariness

Basically, linguistically that state at the bottom right, or maybe the state next to it on the left right at the border is the 'correct' one

Rob
> Percentage of Brahmins in each state. Data is from recent caste censuses.
16-20%

11:00 AM
@M.A.R. Can we hire 2? then I can work saner hours?

Can a Shaolin master also be a web master?

only fif he masters the spider style

Rob
Lighter color = fewer of that caste

@ShadowWizardWearingMask they're not spiders so it's a bit difficult but who knows what they're capable of

11:01 AM
@Rob the place where my folks are from are pretty light.

@M.A.R. floating?

Ugh, jinxed

@JourneymanGeek skinned?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask playing football

@ShadowWizardWearingMask on the map that @Rob linked :D

11:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek oh :P

Rob
What about grandparents, or great grandparent's origin?

@M.A.R. hard to kick when you float

@Rob somewhere in Europe for me.

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Hard to float when you kick

11:03 AM
@Rob all in and around the kaveri river in TN, maybe in a 20-30km radius :D

@Rob you can push the right muscles

Rob
Walking range.

Must be weird knowing about your greatgrandparents
As far as I'm aware, mine were simply farmers in the middle of nowhere

@M.A.R. hey I can see what device you're using. :D

@Rob you haven't been watching Japanese anime obviously

11:05 AM
Tablet Android Samsung

@M.A.R. remember that scene in 13th warrior? Where Ibn Faladan rattles off like 4-5 generations?
I THINK we can pretty much track back about 20-30 with no interruption

@ShadowWizardWearingMask tablet android Samsung, because there's only one of those in the universe

@M.A.R. well it narrows down the search. ;)

phew good glad we all got our morning stretches done.

morning stretches? I'm expecting dinner in 37 minutes...

Is that how long the meat needs to slow-cook?

2:31 PM
IIRC, we're getting rice with ketchup sauce.
No slow-cooked meat in that ;)

I was planning on rice as well. I do have ajam-sate, green pepper and Thai vegetables

@Tinkeringbell ... ketchup sauce?
I'm intrigued.

@Rubiksmoose I'm not sure what else to call it. ;) I'll get the recipe some day. For now, I know it includes diced and cooked chicken, a lot of onion and pineapple, and almost a bottle of ketchup.

sounds yummy!

Well, sphagetti with ketchup, OK. But rice?

2:37 PM
@Rubiksmoose It offers calories ;)
@πάνταῥεῖ It can be done, apparently ;)

Well, I meant only rice with ketchup. But with the rest it sounds yummy actually.

People here are weird. They eat tomatoes and they think rice with ketchup sauce is yummy...

@Tinkeringbell ketchup has tomatos

@JourneymanGeek It also has a lot of sugar, which makes you taste the tomatoes less.

Also sounds like army food 🤣

2:42 PM
Besides, mom would kill me if I dramatically died everytime I had to eat something involving tomatoes, so I eat ketchup sauce.

Tinned pineapple in everything. Which was annoying

I think this is going to have canned pineapple too, fresh is too much work :P

> It means that one tablespoon of this ketchup (Heinz) has about 4g of free sugars, according to the World Health Organisation, which recommends getting no more than 25g per day.
That's a lot of sugar for just one spoon full ...

A tablespoon of sugar is 10-12g... so yeah.

W-wait
So you think tomatoes suck but you add pineapple to ketchup?

2:49 PM
@Tinkeringbell fresh pineapple causes me pain

In other news:
> The University of Alabama in the US has reported 566 cases of Covid-19 since classes resumed a week ago

@M.A.R. pineapple and a lot of sugar... and:

Canned is a bit of a tingle and tastes like only potential danger

7 mins ago, by Tinkeringbell
Besides, mom would kill me if I dramatically died everytime I had to eat something involving tomatoes, so I eat ketchup sauce.
@DavidPostill yay.

@Tinkeringbell Oh, you could have said that since the beginning

2:50 PM
canned face.

@M.A.R. I think I've always mentioned the only tomato thing I find bearable is ketchup because of the amount of sugar?

I dunno if allergies are supposed to work that way but no you haven't mentioned it

@Rubiksmoose Then what pricisely was unclear?
I don't understand what you're getting at, are you saying my question was unclear? or that it was unclear whether or not it's relevant to the question.

@user400654 The whole premise. Why are you asking about surveys to SO users on a post about employee engagement? You imply there is a connection there, but I'm not seeing it which leads me to believe I'm missing something.
Was it just intended as an off-topic poke about asking how survey users are selected?

The post is a feedback post for the The Loop blog post.
you do know what The Loop is, right?

2:56 PM
@user400654 Yes, the post about the employee participation event.
@user400654 :-|
Yes, I do. But none of what you just said answers my questions.
Anyways, it doesn't matter I just thought I was missing something, but clearly you aren't inclined to specify. Thought it would just be a quick thing.

It's a blog post series/company effort to be transparent with the community wrt their actions, and it's primarily source of information on how effective it is (which this post is about) is it's surveys... which after what, 2 years now? we haven't received any real information about how these surveys are conducted

@user400654 That's...not what that blog post was about though?
that's kind of my point.

...
the blog post isn't about the loop?
the SE post isn't about the blog post?

The review link isn't about the SE post?
The meta post isn't about the review link?

@user400654 Neither the blog post or the MSE post have anything to do with talking about how the effective the Loop is or really anything to do with the Loop initiative as it applies to non-employee members of the community (although the results certainly are relevant to the community at large!).

3:01 PM
agree to disagree

shrug ok

@Tinkeringbell I don't like cooked tomatoes, but I love raw tomatoes (essential salad ingredient) and pasta sauce ... I prefer mayonnaise to ketchup ... especially on frietjes ...

@user400654 to be clear we are talking about this post right?

@DavidPostill frietjes go with mayonnaise, curry, and some onions ;)
though ketchup or apple sauce will work if that's not available :P

I'll choose... baumkuchen instead!

3:06 PM
Hmm. I've never had that.

> Baumkuchen is a German variety of spit cake
They make cake out of spit!?

Noun: spit (plural spits)
  1. A thin metal or wooden rod on which meat is skewered for cooking...
I guess so...

Saliva (commonly referred to as spit) is an extracellular fluid produced and secreted by salivary glands in the mouth. In humans, saliva is 99.5% water plus electrolytes, mucus, white blood cells, epithelial cells (from which DNA can be extracted), enzymes (such as amylase and lipase), antimicrobial agents such as secretory IgA, and lysozymes.The enzymes found in saliva are essential in beginning the process of digestion of dietary starches and fats. These enzymes also play a role in breaking down food particles entrapped within dental crevices, thus protecting teeth from bacterial decay. Saliva...

(added)

@DavidPostill on a spit....

3:16 PM
@DavidPostill I've heard of sweat and blood being put into a cake but never spit!

a very long spit

@Aibobot You are missing my sense of humour ...

@DavidPostill am I? :D

@DavidPostill Hey, I thought we were clear that no humor is allowed here.

I like poking fun when words have alternative meanings :)

3:18 PM
not only is this humor, but it is humor about bodily humors!

I only know no 'h' on 'humor' is spoken...

@Rubiksmoose humerous is also bodily :)
> Usain Bolt has tested positive for coronavirus

:'(

@DavidPostill huh, was sure "spit" is just the verb. Thanks for teaching me something new! :D
@Rubiksmoose any body fluid can be used for cooking. O_o

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Now there's something I don't want to think too hard about lol

2uncouth4us

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's also a verb in the alternate meaning.

@Mast that's what @JNat is doing in his free time... @JNat - as @Mast reported, network spammer for your ever caring treatment. :)

3:55 PM
> eject saliva forcibly from one's mouth, sometimes as a gesture of contempt or anger.

@DavidPostill or just as part of talking.

In some cases, yes:)

@Rubiksmoose of course, but when you happen to see it, hard to forget. (not IRL, don't remember where I saw it mentioned)
@Mithical hey are you the new @Derpy?! :D

3:58 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask just filling in

I once got told off (aged about 7 or so) for spitting at another pupil in class. Of course the teacher had missed them spitting at me first ... :/ I never did it again as I was very ashamed ...

@DavidPostill You were throwing spit? We threw chairs...

@Mast Hooligan :)

4:49 PM
@Rubiksmoose I've got: 1kg of chicken breast, 500 gr. mushrooms, 1,5 bottle of tomato ketchup, 5 table spoons of sweet soy sauce, 3 tea spoons of brown sugar, 3 tea spoons vinegar, 0,5 liter of canned pineapple (without the fluid, I have no idea why that is measured in liquid units. We usually use a big can), 6 braised onions and 3 tea spoons of sambal.
Basically, cut the chicken, onions and mushrooms in pieces, cook chicken first, add braised mushroom/onion, mix all the rest in (except the pineapple), leave it to cook for a while, and then add the pineapple before serving with rice or noodles.

You eating tomato ketchup? Impossible.
