@V2Blast brews a cup of passionfruit tea for @V2Blast

yum

@πάνταῥεῖ not sure what you mean? Why three months? We do have government, Bibi even replace ministers according to his own whims, but the government is limited in its actions, e.g. budget is only per-month, not per-year as it should be, but all in all, the system works almost as usual.
And now with 58-54 (need 61 for majority) we'll surely go to another round of elections, likely in November.

"the system works almost as usual." :-D

9:05 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ nah not spam, just the usual off topic stuff
@πάνταῥεῖ well, yeah... with the tons of bureaucracy we have in normal days, there's almost no visible impact. lol

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou I've been avoiding this for so long and what do I see

@user1306322 avoided what? YouTube or Justin?
(or food?? ;))

:p
nah I'm jacked up on youtube lately

I read that Bieber fought a really nasty illness.
Kudos for him.

@Sha Do you know E. Kishon's "The riddle of the 3rd screw"?

9:09 AM
This reminds me, how's everybody today? @Magi @ava @JAD's Boa snake? :)

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Sick. Still :p got tested for covid this morning. I don't have it ;)

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou didn't sleep much, kinda grouchy
work feels blander then usual

@πάνταῥεῖ nope, those books aren't my cup of tea

everyone catching cold, everyone is lowkey afraid it's gonna be corona

@avazula I read that the current tests are really unreliable, e.g one person needed to be tested 7 times before the positive showed

9:10 AM
@avazula good! Wait, results are so fast? Here it takes days to get results for the virus.
(Only one single lab in whole of Israel that can make the test, so we find the sick people in delay of few days.)

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Good satire. But more popular in germany than israel it seems.

I've read there are different tests with different confidence levels
at certain stages some are less effective than others

@Magisch :(
But why no sleep?
@πάνταῥεῖ yeah, it's common with some authors

@Magisch I mean, that's basically a flu. And I don't have the flu symptoms. It's more likely to be a rhino-something

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou not sure?

9:13 AM
Now that I got tested I can go see a doctor
But they're all super busy because everyone is freaking out and making appointments :(
I really chose the bad time to get sick xD

@avazula you got a license showing you're Corona Free? :)

I just couldn't sleep today, which is super unusual for me

Rob
The loogie hang test is the most rapid result.

@Magisch I know, and you appear to know your body so well that you should know why it won't go to sleep mode. :/

Maybe I'm low-key wired and disappointed about the election results and don't want to admit it to myself

9:14 AM
@Rob you hang the patient, and if they don't die they're not sick?

@Sha in France they ask you questions before anything. I haven't been in any of the contaminated areas so they ruled me out.

but I'm not a shrink so don't ask me

@Magisch you mean you might be.... more human that you expected? ;) (but yeah.... that's a possible reason.)

Rob
Hang over the patient, if you're patient.

Some of our +20kers in mood to tidy?

9:16 AM
@avazula oh, so it's not really a test for the virus.

@avazula Ironically here it's now much harder to take sick days here because you need a doctor's note and all the local docs have a week+ wait times at the moment

@Magisch yup, that's basically my issue rn.

@πάνταῥεῖ 1/3

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou It's not a biological one, but it is

Well let's hope it's correct. :)

9:19 AM
There's no reason for it not to be ;)

Rob
As soon as the Govt said they won't pay for sick leave and that they expected the employers to be understanding, provide fully paid leave (which the Gov doesn't do for any reason), it was a non-starter.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou although I'm trying to give myself closure with it there's still technically the chance that they'll need another mod so until in like 4 months it's not entirely over. I think that's the worse part because I have to fight myself to not get disappointed again
you know

@Magisch I lost 2 elections before I became a mod

I think I'm 0 out of 4
2 on twp and 2 on SO

JAD
are there any elections planned for SO?

in SO Close Vote Reviewers on Stack Overflow Chat, 2 days ago, by Samuel Liew
there is no election planned for SO at the moment

JAD
thanks

@V2Blast yum + my = yummy :D

11:41 AM
@Magisch Get out and take a long walk (or bicycle ride) in nature. Clear your head.
A sister-in-law invited the entire family to a party for her 70th birthday. So what happened to me? A kind of claustrophobia. I could not sit (or stand) in that room with everyone talking... I excused myself quietly and walked home (a few miles, but through the woods and fields) - the long way around. And it took me all that time to "come down" to a point where I felt comfortable in my own skin. Thankfully, the family is understanding...

eh
I'm also behind on work so it may be that as well, and scope creep is making the current task rather unenjoyable
on top of that I need to buy a bunch of new things which always comes out of my free time, so I'm looking at not much me-time for the next 2 weeks at least.

12:35 PM
@Magisch buying things take two weeks? What do I miss?

nah different things
I have to buy a bunch of new things and combined it just means a lot of my time is gonna go down for it

1:08 PM
It's been the third time I enter the chat and find nothing worth saying
Which is extraordinary

and apparently, worth saying :P

> Voting to close a question on any SE site should force the voters to actually sit down and state the case why this question should be closed. No more just pushing buttons and leaving but you actually have to type out and state the case.

Then a report is set to the questioner and that will give the questoner a chance to see what is going on or to rebut.

Then the report can be attached with the rebuttals and the questioner can have a chance to send it to a jury of randomly selected users or mods excluding the intial close voters and the questioner.
I actually thought they were trolling

status-no-just-no

So the user wants 5 people to type out detailed rationales for closing, then wants OP to write an essay rebutting the rationales, and then wants X people to play jury and Y people to play appearls jury

Whose idea was that? So that I can shoot th^d^d downvote that idea.

in a world where we just reduced the # of required close votes in a bid to make closing less painful

@JohnDvorak No it's just from an oldish thread
It has finally happened, and I never noticed it: Meta.SE has been the most interesting meta since a few months now
I'm seeing WTF suggestions in such succession that'd make meta.SO blush

2:08 PM
That's similar like asking for detailed explanations for every downvote, and silly for the same reasons having rejected that before.

I was once asked for a downvote explanation on a software giveaway site. I entered "ghosts aren't real". I kinda wonder if the downvote got reversed.

Definitely.
How dare you say ghosts aren't real.

I'd definitely kill to see a jury of Sha, rene and Bart
It'd be a Monty Python movie

another proposal: the Shadow council

Or the flower council
The grumpy part is essential

It's a shadow flower. It's grumpy by nature.

Farseeing Aromatic Conclave
FAC, in short.

@rene !!!!

2:50 PM
I finally know why Rene is so blurry. It's missing Bart.

Who's Rene? @john

@JohnDvorak You mean the glasses?

yes

@Bart can focus anyone
@M.A.R can confuse anyone

3:49 PM
@rene can do both within a single sentence.

He's too powerful, imo.

I am a fan of flower power ;-)

Q: Our Commitment to Responding to Meta and Moderators

JNatAs Teresa mentioned in our Q1 roadmap blog post, we are working on establishing our commitment to responding on our Meta sites and to our moderators, by setting up a new Meta engagement policy. The goal is to increase staff participation on the various Meta sites, particularly Meta Stack Overflow...

2

Rob
So the tag gets blurred and moderators will be doing the once-over that previously was done by staff.

Status-review is less about bugs/support and more about... Something that needs an official reply, be it from a developer on a bug or support question, or a general community question.
It's... Fine, I guess? I suppose it'll be nice to know whether something is going to be addressed or not, such as the infamous "Firing Mods and Forced Relicensing" post.
Or the moderators' open letter.
@SmokeDetector >:(

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou March 4, towards a 4th election. "After the 2019 election, he had 60 seats and didn't persuade a single parliamentarian to switch sides. This time it looks as if he will need three. ". ?

@Mithical I'm not sure what you mean by [status-planned], [status-deferred]. I know that those tags exist, but they're still focused on bugs and feature requests, right?

@Rob Not at all. On the contrary, this is a 180 degree turn on the part of SE. They are saying they will start paying attention to Meta again and that Meta will once again be one of the ways the community can communicate with the company. The tag will be applied by staff, not only by mods.

Better turnover than sailing into the (shit)storm.

Rob
5:04 PM
Previously the tag meant that staff would review, now it is to mean that the moderators believe that the staff should review. In the past Adam and Yaakov applied those tags (for the most part, other staff too), now moderators do this for them. @terdon, instead of "not at all" you meant to say that my observation was entirely accurate; that you disagree with none of what I wrote. From the second sentence onwards is beyond what my single sentence addressed.

@Rob No, I mean it isn't a case of the company putting work on mods. It's that mods will also be able to apply the tag as a way of letting staff know about questions that should be seen by SE. The way you said it felt like you thought it was SE taking a further step back from meta.

I really couldn't be happier with the excellent service my bug reports receive. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, my bug reports get started at worst within three hours; usually they start working on them in less than an hour. The last one I waited approximately 25 minutes and it was fixed in less than 10. --- I even posted here how great the service is. For me a 180° turn would mean the opposite of the wonderful and timely handling of my reports.

@Spevacus meh, it is fine.

@Rob Bugs were pretty much the only thing still handled on meta, yes.

6:08 PM
What on earth is "rude or abusive" about this post (10k only, obviously)? meta.stackexchange.com/revisions/…
Was there a revision deleted (redacted)?

Yeah, that did seem strange. I'm guessing some people flagged as abusive and a mod deleted and the deletion validated the flag?
I never remember which mod actions result in validating flags.

If so, the flags are abusive.

I'm not at all sure that a mod deleting would validate a red flag, actually. In fact, I think it doesn't. I think I remember learning that recently, after having spent several years as a mod thinking that deleting does validate.

I'm for sure have flagged posts before that turned out to be red-flagged when the final delete vote came in, mod or not, didn't matter.
@jscs just flag for a mod to at a minimum undo the red-flag penalty.

6:23 PM
@rene Ah, maybe regular user deletion will validate the flag. I know I used to think I had to first dismiss the flag, then delete if I didn't want the penalty to be applied (e.g. something flagged as spam that was just a misunderstanding, so should be deleted but the user shouldn't get the rep penalty). I was recently informed that if I, as a mod, delete the spam-flagged post, no penalty is applied and I need to flag it myself as spam or offensive for that to happen.

I did. I don't care about the red flag/not distinction, though. Unless there's redacted material, there was no reason for that post to be deleted.

But maybe it is different for non-mods.

(Unless by the author because they wanted to withdraw it, which is fine.)

@terdon yes, a mod would dismiss the flag first, then delete. IIRC you can only dismiss a flag when it is not deleted which is why you sometimes have these weird delete, undelete, delete histories caused by mods on some posts.

@rene yeah, that's what I always did and it turns out I didn't need to. The flag is only validated if I i) validate it like any other flag or ii) flag the post myself. If I just delete the flagged post, the flag may or may not be validated, but the penalty isn't applied.
But I quite literally only learned that around a month ago and I've been a mod since 2014 :/

6:33 PM
Never too late to learn a few tricks, just in the 6 to 8 timeframe ...

snort yeah, but years :)

I'm trying to bring this positively ... ;)

7:25 PM
What's up with ColeValleyGirl's answer being deleted by a mod?
How come? What happened? I've only noticed just now.
@jscs Oh, so someone else noticed too

Lol

7:41 PM
What's up with this ans . . . Oh nevermind

7:58 PM
It was probably deemed to be provoking unnecessary drama.

i mean
that describes the entire post

8:49 PM
@Mari-LouA Upon reading it... dunno. Seemed fairly reasonable to me, although a couple lines seemed... bleh to me. Don't see why it warranted a deletion + red flag masking @JourneymanGeek

🤐

@Mithical It wasn't deleted as spam, it just had at least one user red flag it, then likely automatically marked helpful once the post was deleted. Not sure whether to flag it to request that it be cleared, since I've seen mods decline those as inconsequential and not worth their time.

I'm aware. That's why I said red flag masking, not red flag deleted.

So your question was, why a moderator deleted it + why they didn't clear the flag out before deleting it?

...sure.

Temani AfifToday I noticed the following: This SO question copied to the RuSO This SO question copied to the RuSO This SO question copied to the RuSO (More answers were added but all of them are variant of my answer there too) Well, I will not list all the questions/answers but I found a lot of my answe...

Is it just me, I don't see a diamond on any account by that user, but there are comments claiming they are a dimaond somewhere?

The Ru.SO user isn't a diamond moderator. The Es.SO user also linked in that question is.

@Mithical Ah yes, so they are.

Doesn't it seem a bit...early to be writing media pieces about a place that doesn't even have a functioning site yet?

nope
There are functioning sites... in a way.
Running QPixel as a stopgap, while Codidact is under construction.

(preempted) lol
Don't get me wrong. It was a good read an I'm happy to have word spread about it.
And I really hope they succeed.

So, like, writing.codidact.com is up ans running, and will be switched over to the Codidact software once it's in a usable state

Right. I guess it just struck me as odd timing is all. But in retrospect, maybe not as weird as I thought.

(Also, psst, I kinda wrote it 'cause I need to build up more of a portfolio of things I've written and I needed a topic. Don't tell anyone, though.)

10:15 PM
@Mithical Oh. Well, here's me being really dumb: I hadn't even realised it was you who wrote it XD
That explains though why it was extremely well-written. (as I was just about to comment actually)
