2:00 PM
suspecting Wikipedia conspiracy

how rude Google
you see destruction and your only word is "monochrome"?!

Here's what it looks like if regular fireworks go off during a house fire (my village again). And that's likely why you're only allowed to store 25 kg of fireworks at a time :P
@ShadowWizard :D Why are you googling that image though ? :P

lol
@Tinkeringbell to see where is it from, see the story behind it. :)

I think I once saw a video of a firework factory being destroyed...

2:02 PM
ouch

and by "once" I mean "a few times"

@EKons Did I link the one in Enschede yet?

@EKons yeah, google for Enschede ...
that went out with a bang and lots of casualties

ooooooouch that's a lot worse than the one I've seen

2:07 PM
Well, the most common and fatal mistake, probably, is that people don't treat fireworks as explosives, while they should.

the fact that they shoot up and explode in a particular way doesn't make them less of an explosive

Though some people also forget they're fire... So you get things like the Nieuwjaarsbrand in Volendam. That was a really sad thing too.

or simply don't consider the fact that, even though they're not fire after exploding, they literally work by lighting them on fire!
like, the very definition of an explosive

@Tinkeringbell The interviews aren't in English though, and don't have fireworks...

2:13 PM
@Mithrandir Most of it is in English. Don't be so picky :P

@Tinkeringbell yeah and it wasn't really fireworks there.

@ShadowWizard I'll find the part that goes boom.
youtu.be/Ll8afE5YgmA?t=94 That should come close

@Tinkeringbell wrong room ;)
grabbing message from Tavern

@ShadowWizard Ugh.
3 messages moved from Tavern on the Meta

hm... didn't we have those one-way toilets where you pee and it goes to Tavern brewery?

2:18 PM
@EKons nah, @Bart smashed them with his Smiting Stick

ouch... they were good toilets

@Tinkeringbell thanks! /cc @Mith who actually was the one asking for it. ;)
@Tink I meant no fireworks in the cafe fire accident.
It was some ordinary cracker, the likes you put on a birthday cake. No?

> after a sparkler hit Christmas decorations that hung from the ceiling
sparklers are considered fireworks over here too ;)

sparkler, yeah.. forgot the word.

Lower category than the ones we're planning on firing tonight, but still called fireworks

2:21 PM
Still, it's considered something pretty ordinary, on its own.
The tragedy happened due to the place being totally not fire proof, and over crowded.

superflammable decorations...

yup
And no exists

wait what

Well, there were exists, but blocked with stuff.

NO EXITS?

2:24 PM
@EKons only one.

EMERGENCY EXITS BLOCKED WITH STUFF?!

No emergency fire exists.
@EKons yup, the owners were sent to jail.

IMO, they deserve death...

meh... no death sentence in Europe.

ik
death sentence isn't always unreasonable

2:26 PM
Though third degree murder of 14 people would make sense.
(leading to life sentence in prison, probably?)

(and life sentence is what, 25 years?)

But it's old... they're all probably free by now.
@EKons depends on country, I think.

yep

@EKons Taking a life only makes sense if you can give a life too ;)

actually... you are responsible for death, you must try death yourself, simple (unless you are in bad state of mind)

2:27 PM
@Tinkeringbell or as a way to deter others from doing those things.
@EKons it's not that simple, but yeah.... generally speaking, I also think it can be good thing to have in extreme cases. In Israel only a military court can sentence one to death, as far as I remember.
(usually for treason during war)

well... yeah, adolescents can't technically be responsible for death AFAIK

@EKons sure they can... children can't. But main reason against death sentence for a single murder is the fact sometimes court is mistaken, judge can be wrong, police can fake facts, etc.
Oh, you mean technically. Yeah.

actually, "fake facts" can be ruled out if evidence is shown to the whole jury and there's an unanimous agreement that it's proof

When guilt is obvious and proved beyond any doubt, and the damage is really big, e.g. terror attack, death sentence should be used, no doubt.
@EKons evidence can be planted.
Or the other way around.

jury can be planted?
I... don't think jury works like that though

2:34 PM
lol no
But police can bring evidence they planted, and nobody can tell it's not real.

actually, nothing can be 100% foolproof

Plants are better not trusted ...

@EKons related, interesting reading for you, probably:
The Murder of Tair Rada, a 13-year-old Israeli schoolgirl, was committed in 2006, in the girls' bathroom of her school in Katzrin. Roman Zadorov (Ukrainian: Роман Задоров; Hebrew: רומן זדורוב‎), a Ukrainian and a resident of Israel, is serving a life sentence for the murder. His prosecution and conviction have been a source of controversy, receiving a lot of media coverage, as well as being the focus of an Israeli documentary TV-series called "Shadow of Truth" that has gained worldwide attention on Netflix. == Murder and initial investigation == on December 2006, 13-year-old Tair Rada of Katzrin...
You can jump to "Shadow of Truth"
Police didn't plant evidence, but they did other bad things.

ew
rushed conviction never good

TL;DR: convicted murderer might be actually not guilty of any crime.
(hence, death sentence in that case would have been a terrible idea.)

2:41 PM
another detail: what if the person you murdered was already a proven traitor, or you are able to present proof it was a traitor?
of course, that would usually count as plain murder, and police don't give a s--- about your proof

@EKons yup. Only self defense counts.

that, imho, is very unjust

Or extreme cases of abuse.
(e.g. wife beaten by husband, ending up killing him.)

(that's self-defense too, no?)

There was something not long ago here, she got life sentence but it was reduced to 10 years or so.

2:44 PM
anyway, if you murder a traitor and prove they were a traitor (traitor once, traitor forever), you should be commended, not condemned

@EKons not always, e.g. if she kills him when he sleep. (otherwise she has no chance)
@EKons only in movies... lol

yeah, should happen irl too

(or if you work for Mossad, there was a book with such ending ;))

Does this work? Fireworks 2019 imgur.com/a/H6SYuEZ
Keep an eye on that link, I'm likely to add more tonight ;)

6:03 PM
But it ... is not yet 2019 where you are? Is that firework show so extensive it takes over 4 hours to complete?

Nah, this was the kids show ;)
Though yeah, over here there's easily people that kinda just keep going the entire evening now...

Last time I handled fireworks I drove the illegal firework a friend of mine bought to the place where we would have the party. When we put it in the shed (a 10,000 klapper or something) we said to the owner of the shed: don't touch it, it is a bit unstable, it might go off without notice. The poor guy didn't dare to put his bike in the shed for a week. ...

6:18 PM
:D. Poor guy! I'm not really fond of the illegal stuff. Though I guess the stuff brothers brought from Germany might not be entirely legal too ;)

It is always tricky, legal or not.

6:31 PM
I've noticed the not so legal stuff is more prone to tipping over.

It is a bit late to conclude it is illegal stuff ...

Hahaha yeah. But I'm usually a bit more careful when the neighbor lights one ;)

hat
It's very, very damp here. Like steady rain damp. There is no dampening spirits, though! The fireworks are still going strong, and the air is all smoke. The monthly data bundle ran out, so I had to wait till after the New Year to get online. I can still be in time to wish users in other time-zones however. Happy New Year to all UTC+1 users!
BTW, did you know that Charlie Chaplin's One AM is only funny at 1:00 AM?

Happy new year!

11:14 PM
Thanks, same to you!

Oooh, there was a hat for starred messages after midnight :3
