2:00 AM
@TimStone Well that changes everything; that means I have to do it

I'm curious about how much I use - never monitored it.

@RebeccaChernoff Well with a incoming DDoS
Alot

> that the company will be implementing a new 150GB monthly usage cap for all DSL customers and a new 250 GB cap on all U-Verse users starting on May 2

@RebeccaChernoff I could easily top that with a DDos

um that wasn't a challenge fyi

2:04 AM
With all my torrenting I mean legal Dls I usually hit 2TB a month
closer to 3

@Jacob then you are a statistical outlier

the one that ruins the fun for all of us

@Zypher VZ doesn't care at all
I asked
They full have capabilities for me to run 150Mb all month

@Jacob not true.

ok FINALLY my stop next catch y'all later

2:06 AM
@Zypher See ya

@drachenstern I know the net tolopogy from here to the equinox DC

The person who answered the phone has not been authorized or required to tell you that they mind. Technically they don't have to answer your questions at all, it's the whole under 18 bit.. but the people on the phone are not the ones who make those decisions or set those guidelines.
@Jacob and I live 400 yards from the central CO for Shreveport. What's your point there?

@drachenstern I was talking to my dads Tier 3 buddy :P
@drachenstern DSL?

@Jacob for Verizon? Who also happens to be over your block of the network?
@Jacob No, the central office. The main one. Where all the branch lines terminate.
I mean, I do have DSL, but ATT doesn't really do Shreveport. This is a backwater to them.

@drachenstern They have a massive amount of Fiber between here and DC

2:10 AM
@Jacob and you're on that backbone directly?

@drachenstern Yep

res-bb is reston
thats their peer point
well about 200 miles away
@drachenstern i'm not sure why we argue about everything; but I find it quite fun

@Jacob I imagine that's one way to look at it

hello tavern

So did you ever figure out what exactly it is you're going to write software for the iPhone/Android/WP7/Palm/WebOS/etc/etc/etc

I enjoy a good discussion; you word that as I am offensive? am I?

2:16 AM
@SergioTapia what was that DNS utility you used to snipe your hostname?
@Jacob I wouldn't term it offensive. I did intend that to come off as ">.>"

@drachenstern >.>? I don't understant said emotocons

Oh I didn't snipe it :P I just randomly tried it out because it was it was a very lazy sunday morning.
Behold and it was available. Nearly spit out my coffee on the new laptop and immediately bought it.

@Jacob it means shifty eyes. I didn't understand emoticons once upon a time. I advise you to seriously study how people use them and learn to account for them. All of them. Even ones that don't seem to be emoticons.
@SergioTapia I know, I'm the one that keeps calling it sniping.
But who was the purchasing agent?

oh ASmallOrange
Cost me 9$

@drachenstern I've never seen it before; its hard to understand that emote with out a reference

2:19 AM
@Jacob I always enjoy a good discussion. Consider that you tend to come off like you're only 15 tho. Which isn't so much of a problem, as we've all (I promise) in here been 15. You also tend to come off as coming from money, which I did too by and large, but at the time that I got to play with toys, it was tandy computers that hooked up to the TV and 80286's. And I'm fairly young.
@SergioTapia thanks.
@Jacob it's been around for quite some time. Also, wikipedia

@drachenstern I'll work on that

This is a list of notable and commonly used emoticons or textual portrayals of a writer's mood or facial expression in the form of icons. The Western use of emoticons is much different than the Eastern use, and Internet forums, such as 2channel, and Internet forums, typically, show expressions in their own ways. In recent times, graphic representations, both static and animated, have taken the place of traditional emoticons in the form of icons. Western The emoticon in Western style is written most often from left to right. Thus, most commonly, one will see the eyes on the left, followed...

speaking of which - do you think my blog is easy to read?
I didn't want to go for anything fancy just easy to read.
www.sergiotapia.com

@SergioTapia sergiotapia.com <--clickable

2:23 AM
@SergioTapia what do you measure as "easy to read"?

newsflash: this is not my gmail window!

@RebeccaChernoff lmao

What do you mean - it's just easy to read! :D

Lies!

That's the measure

2:23 AM
Gmail just incorporated chat.MSO with its interface.

lmao

What's chat.MSO?

@TimStone turn on your laptop
@SergioTapia this

bonus points for anyone who saw what I typed and knows what I was trying to do in gmail. q:

this server, to be more exact

2:24 AM
@drachenstern looks to the left

I saw what you typed and am still not sure what you meant

Quickly, to the keyboard shortcut list!
I didn't see it, I was off pretending to be productive.

@drachenstern You lost me

@SergioTapia this server is chat.meta.stackoverflow.com <-> chat.meta.SO <-> chat.MSO

oooooohhhhh I see. It was a joke.

2:26 AM
@TimStone I want to say she was labeling a message ... I've pretty well forgotten what I saw at the time, as I have other things to do
@SergioTapia yeah, to say that gmail was integrated with chat.

Ok, I'm out. Gotta finish this thing for tomorrow. By the way: If any of you are feeling frisky...

Q: Getting the parent organization unit (if any) of an organizational unit in Active Directory.

Sergio TapiaI've created a small entity class: public class OrganizationalUnit { public string Name { get; set; } public string ParentUO { get; set; } public string Path { get; set; } } Here's how I create objects of this type: /// <summary> /// Provides an object that allow...

see ya :)

G'bye
I'm apparently out of Pepsi Throwback. What a cruel world.

@TimStone There is a solution to that, though it involves leaving your room.

Hah! Well, it seems a bit late for a trip to Walmart, I'll likely go tomorrow ;)

@GeorgeMarian What ever you do; don't mention the out side word...

2:31 AM
Dude how are they not open 24/7?

@drachenstern He isn't out of pespi throwback.. or he'd go tonight

@Jacob or he could leave tonight, and then he'ld be out

@drachenstern Oh, they are. I'm just sensible like that :P

smacks sql query
Those are not the right results
>_<

2:33 AM
Your use of physical force leads me to believe you didn't ask the server nicely, which is almost guaranteed to be the problem.

@TimStone I concur; servers have feelings too

anyone in here up for a quick C question?

@TimStone the magic password is "I said do eeet" followed by the pumping of a doublebarrel 12 guage

@MarkElliot Skill-wise probably not, but sure.

@MarkElliot indubitably. But you get faster results if we don't have to read your mind.

2:35 AM
Hitting a local db, my computer knows I <3 it.
Also, I'm sad nobody figured out my keyboard shortcut. Y'all need to use them more!

for reasons I'll get into later, I'd like to do this (and thought I could):
for(int bar = foo, foo = 0; !foo; foo = bar)
but I'm getting a syntax error
nvm, I see it now facepalm

Glad we could help! ;)

haha, actually, I'd still like to be able to do something like that
it's for a little macro trick
so that I can define an atomic read based on disabling a particular interrupt

@RebeccaChernoff I think only @drachenstern saw it :P

Irrelevant! You still should use more keyboard shortcuts!

2:37 AM
lol
"your argument is invalid because I reject your reality and substitute my own"

keyboards are overrated, joystick mouse thingymabobber in the middle is where it's at

@NickCraver no no no, we need a neural brainsuck interface
@MarkElliot what was the syntax error?
the way you typed it it looks valid to me.

unfortunately Eclipse isn't being very friendly

I'd act surprised, but.

but I believe it's trying to redefine foo

2:39 AM
@drachenstern - I'm not sure that's possible, we only have so much suck and we're about out for the month

haha

@NickCraver lmao

@NickCraver -2. One of these days I'm going to steal everyone's mouse, and also, you said "thingymabobber" instead of "thingadongdong"

I can't remember what the MSO phrasing for that thing is
@RebeccaChernoff I would not be opposed to that

let's just call it the keyboard dingleberry
or if you're a manger "oooooh shiny!"

2:41 AM
@NickCraver oO ewwwwwww

gotta go for the night, goodies will be deployed in the next few hours
night!

Hooray! \o/
G'night

@NickCraver ah, no preview? :p ... night

@NickCraver nice cliffhanger q:

Well, he did mention a few things on Meta, but I'm not sure any of those are what he was referring to. :P
@MarkElliot Yeah, it's that, or depending on your compiler settings, the fact that you're trying to declare something in the loop at all.

2:44 AM
@TimStone Ah, I dunno what he mentioned.

@TimStone I surrendered and added that flag to GCC a while ago

I'm seeing a positive correlation between @drachenstern's presence and chat room activity lately.

@MarkElliot Heheh :D

I'm trying to avoid defining an extra pair of functions to accomplish the task

@mootinator I blame my laziness the last few weeks

2:44 AM
but it's looking more like I'm going to have to
unfortunately

@mootinator seriously? ... interesting.

@RebeccaChernoff Gotta keep up with the times...

I'll be honored for now ;)
3

@drachenstern with a star :)

@TimStone /blame accepted.

2:45 AM
the idea is that I want a macro that wraps some code with some pre-processing and some post-processing

@TimStone I could go look, but where's the fun in that?

haha, thanks Jacob
@MarkElliot to accomplish what task? what did I miss?

so i have a microcontroller
and I'd like to disable a very specific interrupt
execute some code
then enable the interrupt with its original settings

@RebeccaChernoff I think he must be referring to something I don't know about, since what he talked about in the time frame of deployments going out tonight isn't particularly interesting (to most people)

so roughly I want to take:

2:46 AM
@MarkElliot code injection, yay

ATOMIC_OP(__register){ ... } and turn it into:

@MarkElliot You need to throw binary digits at it in a particular sequence.

foo = __register.INTCTRL;
__register.INTCTRL = 0;
... (code)
__register.INTCTRL = foo;

shrugs
no clue @TimStone (:

@drachenstern it's not entirely code injection, think of it as "can't screw up this sequence"

2:47 AM
My dog is not so bright. She watches something go up onto the balcony and waits for it to come back down
@MarkElliot oh, I can screw it up :p

@RebeccaChernoff Spy the commits! ;)

but I know what you mean

@TimStone Who says I haven't?

@TimStone share the commits!

@RebeccaChernoff According to the WOB, Marc.
@drachenstern Yeah, I should have known better.

2:49 AM

@TimStone lmao
@RebeccaChernoff yes, I thought that was neat

that's all you're getting though. (;

@RebeccaChernoff so thats a visual rep of your code repo?

It's actually a game they play instead of writing code.

I wish I zapped my code repo with colored lasers.

2:55 AM
@mootinator If I destroyed resources with coloured lasers, I feel like there'd be a lot of reverts in my future.

I'm considering Gourceing my repo and seeing what it says

@drachenstern nothing; doesn't is split out funny colors?

@drachenstern Yeah, I'm going to give that a shot later tonight, heh

My repo would look pretty darn boring.

It's really easy to use.
Though if anyone figures out the --seconds-per-day parameter, YOU MUST SHARE!

3:01 AM
Hey, its one guy committing something every couple of days.

lol, ok

@mootinator Heheh, I think mine'll look like that too.

well, as long as you touch different files, you can still fly around the video

60 file commit, here I come!

You share your commandline with me and I'll figure that other one out

3:03 AM
pfft I don't have my command window open anymore!
gource -s 0.1 -c 4 --hide dirnames,filenames,users,usernames was the bulk of it
though really if -s worked, -c isn't needed.
Oh, maybe I used --date-format to change the format at the top, don't remember.
oh, definitely save the log and then run it on the log rather than having it create the log every time

taps foot Damn this VM is being slow.

Yes, they are.
I still don't get DI :/

@RebeccaChernoff was your log local? Did you use the -s or -- comand? using the -- command it seems to do what you wanted
@mootinator it is tricky. What DI library are you using?

@drachenstern I'm not. I just read @ircmaxell's blog.

3:16 AM
> He bowls overhand. He's won awards for his gameface alone. He may not always drink beer, but when he does

Good ol' Dos Equis

lol

Well it is mercurial, so I was running it against my local repo. I tried both -s and --seconds-per-day. It did speed up, it just didn't seem to speed up even more with < 1.

@mootinator: what don't you get about it?

and I now owe @RebeccaChernoff 10 bucks :(

3:18 AM
\o/

@RebeccaChernoff ooooh, I imagine it's an int

@ircmaxell I read it, but my brain is kind of "Wheeee!" at the moment, so I don't have anything particularly useful to add.

The ones that don't seem to want ints seem to call out not ints

@drachenstern negative

Fair enough

3:19 AM
wtf? ... ok, kiln needs me to close Chrome ... >.> .... brb, updating

@ircmaxell When I would want to use it. Though I just read more, and do have a general idea ;)

Well, I would say you should use it anytime a class has a dependency on another class
if you ever call new with another class name after it, you might be better suited by DI
that way, it makes the code FAR more testable and flexible

@ircmaxell Yup, testability was the big benefit I was able to glean from 5 minutes of looking.
Who knew.

lol

So if I actually want to learn something, what blogs should I follow?

3:26 AM
As it turns out, I've been using something almost identical to your lazy DI example for my data layer.

@mootinator That's what I've been using for CryptLib, and it's working really nicely

Cause I really want to learn more..

@TylerChacha Eric Lipperts
I think I have that name wrong

@TylerChacha What do you want to learn about?

Lippert?

3:28 AM
@ircmaxell Anything. Every single programming blog I follow just talks about new AJAX libraries or ends up like coding horror ..

What langauge?

@drachenstern Link?

or langauge agnostic?

PHP, Java, Ruby, Javascript, or Language Agnostic

3:29 AM
@mootinator probably
@TylerChacha because that's the evolution of devs

phpdeveloper.org <-- a good agregator for your reader

Have you read code complete?

And all Coding Horror talks about is StackOverflow

I still read Jakob Neilsen's biweekly Alertboxes

@drachenstern ya

Have you re-read code complete?

phparch.com <-- Decent one. Some good stuff in there
planet-php.net <-- another good one
and shameless plug: blog.ircmaxell.com <-- :-P

lol

3:34 AM
@mootinator I did something wrong :o
> Oops! Google Chrome could not find twounicorns1cup.com

I should turn that into a blog.

Evening folks.

I have a few domains I should use

Porting code... The story of my life.

@Moshe you should learn a new song

3:35 AM
@drachenstern I should. Any suggestions?

ok, while everyone's in here discussing swapping domains ...
@Moshe C#
hahahahahaa I make crappy jokes

@drachenstern Perhaps.

Porting code... Baby baby baby oh baby.

So does anybody know how to steal a domain?
drachenstern.com <-- bad host, but they keep renewing the damned thing. I wants it. Badly

bad @drachenstern, no donut

3:37 AM
:OOOOOOOOOO it's not the same host!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, then file a complaint with ICANN

or at least, it shows something now. Normally it gives an error

i dare ya to go to zypher.com

@ircmaxell wait what?

@drachenstern Force the DNS to change the domain records somehow, or set up your own DNS and point to your server. Convince the world to use your server. No?

3:37 AM
explain more please

@Zypher Er... NSFW?

@Moshe not quite

nah it's fine for work woulda warned

@Zypher kk

zypher.com <-- that's evil man

3:38 AM
@drachenstern icann.org - claim theft by the host. They have agreements and policies for handling that sort of behavior

BTW, Nippon 1.1.0 is in review folks. Thanks to all the testers.

they can get their registrar status revoked if they do that

@drachenstern i know damn chinese

@ircmaxell I would so love to see that spelled out a little more. on account of ...
> The data in the WHOIS database of 1&1 Internet AG is provided by

@Zypher I know manderin chinese. Which part of the country speaks that dialect?
jk

3:39 AM
and it too keep getting renewed:

Date Registered: 04/07/98
    Date Modified: 05/21/10
      Expiry Date: 04/06/14

Jin
@Zypher that's sexist

domain: drachenstern.com
created: 21-Oct-2004
last-changed: 22-Oct-2010
registration-expiration: 21-Oct-2011

nserver: ns7.schlund.de
nserver: ns8.schlund.de

status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED
@Moshe so you fixed the bugs? :p

@drachenstern Not sure. But that's somewhere to look into

@drachenstern Enough. The latest TestFlight went to Apple. (It went back down from 1.2 to 1.1.0)

i should try to buy it via a proxy and see what happens

3:41 AM
Anyone know where to raise money for advertising for apps?

@ircmaxell I'm looking through their complaint resolution and I'm not seeing anything that would really apply to me

Is that a question for onstartups?

@Moshe yea i'd go there

I'm sad my proxy spammer stopped targeting my website after I made a mod_rewrite directive to send his proxy the whois information on his domain instead of the content of my site.

@drachenstern ahh, fair enough

3:42 AM
@drachenstern you could try one of those domain sniping services

@drachenstern So, it's off topic, who cares. It aint' SO with the vote police.
@Zypher Thanks.

@Zypher well I can watch the DNS and whois well enough myself. They always renew. But it's year over year.
@Moshe wtf r u on aboot?

@mootinator I had someone doing that for me. instead, I rendered incorrect data to them. Because of my site's basis, it was incredibly effective...

Heh.

hmm trademark your handle and claim tradmark with ICANN?

3:44 AM
@drachenstern The "Nothing applies to me" reminds me of the "close as off topic" box on SE.

@Moshe ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@Zypher I've considered it. I've been using it since 1996

@Zypher Which reminds me I need to fix up cerebraldonkey.com It's sad that name only appears on my Costco card. :P

how does one go about acquiring a squatted domain anyways?

@drachenstern Excellent question. Ask on SU maybe?

I figure Zypher is here, he's the one I would ask :/

3:49 AM
BTW, for the record, my MacBook had crawled to a slow after having 246GB of 250GB occupied on the hard drive. I deleted ~70GB of media files. Working well now, thank G-d.
When in doubt, just zap everything in sight.

gogo gource

@TimStone indeed

Jin
@Moshe my Mac flies whenever when I'm not using Firefox.

@Jin This is a MacBook with 2GB of RAM. I usually run Xcode, Safari, Mail, iTunes, Stickies and Photoshop at the same time.

@Jin everything flies when not using Firefox.
2
hey who took away my star? ):

3:51 AM
@Jin What kind of Mac?

@RebeccaChernoff +1 internets to you ... visible to anyone not using Firefox

Jin
@Moshe a 2yr old iMac

@RebeccaChernoff The person who gave it to you, it was kinda anticlimactic. Here, have it back.
I'm wondering about specs.
@Jin How much memory?

Jin
@Moshe 4gig, 2.66ghz core 2 duo

@Moshe it's not fair when you give them out of pity
