welcome back @balpha. I have left a weird proposal for you SE staff in Jon room. You may want to have a look.
It is weird, I know, and it is a little late for that... but please have a look anyway.

in the what room?

hey @balpha do all the SO/SE staff know how to get the hats? or is it a lock and key thing for even them?

007 can't be HNQ; this guy has it and none of the things he's touched lately are HNQ.

@MikeMiller he got a tag badge!

@rekire so did Alex A. on PPCG, and he doesn't have it

12:11 PM
@Doorknob okay

Also, quartata is the only one on our site with onion, if that helps

user260233
here are those with 007; can't see anything visibly consistent about their recent actions

@Derpy yes
@rekire no idea

I've edited in grace period too...

@bjb568 So, avoiding it to appear in history??

user260233
@Derpy: His last visible action was 7h ago; as of 6h ago he didn't have the hat.

user260233
so at the very least not an edit on his own post

oh this better not have anything to do with flagging because I want it on PPCG :D

12:15 PM
@Doorknob Then getting "Nice Question" is not part of the requirement, like I thought. Several others there also got that badge within the last 10 hours. codegolf.stackexchange.com/help/badges/46/nice-question
@Doorknob If it required only a helpful flag, lots of folk would have it by now.
Besides, there was some talk about hats for flagging, in the review after last year. The mods did not want to have to handle a lot of flags, cast for the sole purpose of getting a hat.
Hm... @bjb568 only has one account, right? So the 007 hat is probably not related to using a secondary account.

I was guessing something about the grace time editing you might need to do something 7 seconds before the end. In gold finger the timer ended at 0:07 as far I remember

Could be.
I did edit something today, then edited it further within the grace period. No James Bond hat yet.

I'm about to finish an answer, I can try it if you like

So the 7 seconds might be part of it.
@Quill Would like to, if there is something to edit in your answer.

I'll leave two characters off as a test

12:25 PM
Great! Which site?

user260233
is there even a grace period for editing questions that aren't yours?

Yes there is - I happened to do it earlier just when I'd missed something but no hat from it

Code Review, I'm nearly finished an answer on ArnoldC

I don't know what worries me more: that people built a programming language based on movie star quotes, or that people want to know how to use it right...

alright, here I go
I might've been too slow
I hit post
scrolled down to edit
made the changes, hit save
and it said 'posted 15 seconds ago'
0
A: You have no respect for logic

QuillThere's incorrect/inconsistent indentation in: HEY CHRISTMAS TREE result YOU SET US UP 0 and HEY CHRISTMAS TREE isZero YOU SET US UP 0 The ArnoldC wiki says you should declare 0s and 1s as the "macros" @I LIED and @NO PROBLEMO HEY CHRISTMAS TREE isZero YOU SET US UP @I LIED I...

although the answer was fun
how'd you go @S.L.Barth?

12:34 PM
I tried a little edit suggestion. I have no full editing privileges there.

I hit approve

Thanks! Now to get the timing right!

I really doubt 7 second edit after a post was posted is pretty much possible for anyone besides the editor, or someone with the post who's waiting

I thought it was "7 seconds before the grace period ends".

idk

12:36 PM
Unfortunately SE gives the time of the edit in minutes, not seconds...!

yeah...

Wait! Hover text says 12:33:43z .

user260233
Here's a user with 007 and no visible activity in the last 3 hours. I'm not sure it's about grace periods - you'd have to post something visible to see those.

your edit was wrong btw, the first part anyway

Sorry about that. I hurried things too much.

12:38 PM
all good

Thanks.

@MikeMiller 0 edits as well

user260233
That guy baffles me. I have no idea what he could have gotten it for.

Oh! Oh! Is it like Chameleon from last year? Changing your profile picture? tries it

@Quill grace period edit is not recorded anywhere, it doesn't add to the edit count

user260233
12:44 PM
@ShadowWizard: This guy hasn't posted in 11 hours.

@MikeMiller But got the Nice Answer badge for his latest activity.
If I think I know the answer, should I post it as a new answer, or is it enough to comment?
Or edit the existing answer?

It can't be Nice Answer. Otherwise there would be waaaaay more of them.

@MikeMiller he posted this after Winter Bash began, so maybe a ninja edit then hat awarded when it reached score of 10?

@Doorknob there's already one for nice answer (but for mobile)

My theory is: score 7+ for an answer posted during WinterBash.

12:46 PM
that was the same as one last year
a helmet (headegg) or something

@Doorknob that's speedy delivery

I'm talking about S.L's guess

user260233
@ShadowWizard 7 and you've got a deal.

@Doorknob Ok... then my hypothesis was wrong :-(

12:49 PM
@MikeMiller deal! :)

user260233
OK, not every user with 007 has a Nice Answer since Bash - but every one I see has an answer with at least 8 votes.

user260233
So that's almost certainly part of the requirements.

@Undo can you remove the "(linux)" from this softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/q/1713/226?

@MikeMiller Starred that! But, as was pointed out here, Undo doesn't have it for his 14-score answer on Meta.SE .

user260233
@S.L.Barth: But there are more requirements. "Stealth edit a post that later gets 7 votes" seems reasonable.

12:57 PM
Nope, I've done that

Maybe it's not about stealth edits at all.
