Q: How little information does an answer have to have to be NAA as comment

bjb568 arrayName.length will get you the number of entries. Set Devise::Async.queue = :default (sometimes even with a link to docs!) These kinds of answers are IMO better as a comment. And are regularly deleted for that reason. …but I was review banned after just one failed audit (which is a very s...

Done

@bjb568 You're never review banned for "just one audit."

Manual bans?
I'm sure I didn't get the STOP! LOOK AND LISTEN! thing recently. I remember those times because they don't happen every day.

2:57 AM
A wild good question appears:
1
Q: How to define an exported symbol's address

LuisABOLLet's say I'm writing a C++ library which must export a variable, a data structure, called, for example, ExpData. So, programs linked against my libray can access this variable (there is a public header defining it as extern void **ExpData). However, this data structure is internally the vtable ...

3:29 AM
@Doorknob Confirmed, it was just one audit. Maybe manual? Whatever, it's lifted now.

4:27 AM
@bjb568 I'd expect such stuff to be covered by the documentation

Gone
morning @bjb568!

4:58 AM
Mornin
@JanDvorak It's a good first question.
And we don't care how hard the question is.

(as long as it's on-topic)

@bjb568 I'm not worried about difficulty, but if it's answered in the official documentation, what's the point of duplicating it here?

@JanDvorak What's the point of duping anything? To make it easier to find.

but will it?

SO ranks high in Google, so yes.

Train wreck due to spam! meta.stackexchange.com/a/233773/152859

Morning!

(need a bot that detect spam answers too)

@ShadowWizard that spam is almost an hour old; you could've waited a few seconds more >:-(

Boooooooo

@ShadowWizard the problem with that is that the API quota is rather low and there's no websocket for all answers.

Mat
6:47 AM
One down

Well... maybe I could hook up to all per-site sockets. That doesn't deplete the quota.
both gone

OK, my car needs to be towed, gtg!

Car towing? That doesn't sound good.

BOO. There doesn't seem to be a websocket with all answers. Not even per-site. Not even per-tag.
Hmm... maybe I could flood the system with per-question websocket connections.

@JanDvorak feature-request

@JanDvorak Where?

hmm... I thought there was. Can you post it?

Can't you?

You think I am? :)

Finally chat works again...

Yay.

I was really lost...I guess the cheap switch went up in smoke?

7:43 AM
If you mean the caching switch, yes.

8:29 AM
@bjb568 No, I mean this

No, you mean caching.
You're only wrong because your response was cached.
Or maybe I'm wrong because I am cache.
Anyway, goodnight.

@bjb568 goodnight

8:53 AM
@ShadowWizard What a cheap way to reduce on fuel consumption....

Hi, everypony.

@rene you got me! ;-D
@JanDvorak API is so 2013, I have a pure client side bot in mind. :-)

@ShadowWizard do you intend to scrape the pages? I could...

@JanDvorak yep, scrape the homepage every minute or so, look for new answers posted, crawl the new answer as well etc. Can add a condition to crawl only if answer author has 1 rep.

9:03 AM
@ShadowWizard You can listen to the websocket for new questions

@Mat wow he dodged all the bots! How did you find it?

I need to restart mine... hold on

Mat
@ShadowWizard: I just have a tab open on English.SE. Then I use the high-tech eye+glasses+coffee combo :-)

@Mat oh, that's a winner. Nothing can dodge that!
@JanDvorak but there are no bad words in title.. ?

It is ba ba now, not baba, and the phonenumber is not separated by a space...

@rene yep, looks like he's becoming desperate!

Any idea why this was deleted? stackoverflow.com/a/24097943/488657
I don't see what's spam/offensive about it ...

@Mat oooh, Markov chains. Oooh, actual chains.

@Bart one word that probably ruined the whole post in the eyes of some users: "crappy".

... did Lance hack Flexo's account @ShadowWizard?

9:15 AM
> in order to eliminate the need to declare the crappy components everywhere
@Bart might be, but I fear many others share this ultra strict view.

Pff, sounds like a case of "just edit" to me

Who the f*ck flags swearwords nowadays?

@Bart I agree! :)
@JanDvorak those who think the swearword will jump out of the screen and do nasty things to them, probably. :(

Flagged @ShadowWizard. Let's see what happens to it.

any idea why would Chrome suddenly decide to stop displaying notifications?

9:17 AM
@JanDvorak it knows you deserve a day off

@JanDvorak check web sockets, maybe it's on SE side too, they're still moving cheese around.
@Bart you mean you flagged asking to undelete?

Yep

@ShadowWizard I keep poking the sockets every five minutes if I don't get a heartbeat, and if that fails I also AJAX-reload the current page and scrape that.
also, I have noticed 153 unread notifications and when I tried to open the notification window, Chrome crashed completely.

@JanDvorak oh, 153 is a lot maybe the client side code parsing them all caused the crash.

@Bart I edited the offensive stuff....didn't know I could do that...

9:22 AM
Ooh, I though I couldn't so I didn't even try @rene. Thanks

@rene srure, 10k users can edit deleted posts just fine.

"rermoved fould words"

lol
oh, didn't notice the variable name on first glance, good catch @rene!

does "chick" count as a fowl word?

I would not use it but I'm a nice guy...

9:26 AM
what is the correct singular for "chicken", then?

@JanDvorak depends on the context

@ShadowWizard fowl

@JanDvorak nugget

@Bart I mean the live ones

future-nugget

9:28 AM
@JanDvorak Chicken is the singular form ;)

10:16 AM
can you just proof read it and see if theres anything wrong and fix it @Bart — user3696676 2 mins ago

U FIX CDE NOW, PLLLZZZ, YES?! NO?!

What about no?

What? why not? I asked politely...

You have been given plenty of advice already. It is now all up to you. Good luck! — rene 15 secs ago

It starts as something that could be a reasonable question until you hit What are the applications for calendar quarters anyways

it looks like a POB question with a side question tacked on, where the side question is what he really wants to know.
Can't closevote on programmers, unfortunately.

@Mat bang!
@Bart you are asked for "butt answer" here, think you can manage such a thing?

/me drops pants

@JanDvorak no idea, chose "it is offensive, abusive, or hate speech" reason
@Bart butt where's the answer?

undertoke

Patience @ShadowWizard, such selfies require a flexibility I do no possess

11:06 AM
@Bart I'm still waiting! :D

Your eagerness is disconcerting @ShadowWizard

@Bart really? Good to know! ;)

11:17 AM
Think this will help him understand what is code indentation?

hopefully

@ProgramFOX thanks, I was bit hungry

11:57 AM
too bad I do not have more close votes for today :)
imho, 50 is not much with so much crap stuff.

Strange that one of the users that answered now left a comment

because I flagged his answer as link-only
and he seems to agree that it should be a comment if any.

anyway...close voted...

fair enuff...

@ShadowWizard I wonder if Unity3d is using the borland compiler?

12:05 PM
Nah, the tag is just a crapmagnet
Give people a tool that makes it easy to create something, and all of a sudden people think they don't need to know how to program.

@ShadowWizard close enough, but you should also move the opening curly bracket to the end of the previous line.
(in both before and after, if you wish)

Nooooooooooooooooooooo

@JanDvorak not really, it's a personal taste. I actually do it for JavaScript, but not C# - and that code looked more like C# than JS.

@ShadowWizard why not in C#?

I will smite you with my smiting stick if you do that. Especially in this particular case where the OP obviously has problems with matching braces and the like.

12:10 PM
@JanDvorak guess because Visual Studio is putting it on a new line with Smart Indent turned on
And I'm too lazy to turn it off ;)

@ShadowWizard it's a microsoft product, VS doesn't count ;-)

@JanDvorak well, it's doing a decent job - I put a single } in the end of a class and everything get indented. :D

@ShadowWizard an IDE "correcting" my indentation everytime I close a block would be annoy me beyond measure.

@JanDvorak "If you can't beat them, join them". :D

@ShadowWizard some IDEs seem to think that everything inside a function call should be on a single line. And breaking up expressions into temporary variables doesn't always help, especially when you need to use both com.example.ourcompany.mainproduct.mainmodule.client.UserCardDTO and com.example.ourcompany.mainproduct.mainmodule.server.UserCardDTO. ;-)

12:29 PM
@JanDvorak oh no, that's way too much IMO as well, but indentation is working fine in VS - each line on its own. :)

from com.example.ourcompany.mainproduct.mainmodule.client import UserCardDTO as UserCardDTOClient
from com.example.ourcompany.mainproduct.mainmodule.server import UserCardDTO as UserCardDTOServer
oh wait, you are using java? then you might be out of luck :P

12:54 PM
This is improved a lot but is it good enough to be reopened (and maybe get some of the downvotes reversed)?

... I noticed only now. Seems that my post about the "Escape from XP" game was starred.
Hope ye liked it then.

I starred it
and like it

I hate it when people bash XP....great game...loved it...

I liked the Godzilla-like Clippy in the background :P

I finally got 3000 reputation on Stack Overflow!
My first Reopen Vote Review was an audit. I failed.

seems the "audit newbies" feature was finally implemented :-)

@JanDvorak I guess so. The thing is, it's perfectly clear what the question is asking.

if you disagree with the audit, you can go to the question itself and recast your vote.

@TheGuywithTheHat Congrats!

@ProgramFOX Thanks

1:13 PM
"Unclear what you're asking" yet clear enough for them to provide two answers ...

@JanDvorak I disagree with the audit, but I don't know if I should disagree with the audit.
This is my first time with close and reopen votes on Stack Overflow, so I'm kind of a noob at it.

It looks like a homework to me. I can understand why it was closed.

This user has been suggesting minor edits for the last several hours. The edits consist of adding broad tags to questions because "it related with the question."
They ignored my comment about an hour ago requesting more substantial changes

/me goes on a reject spree
@ProgramFOX this edit was actually correct, even it should have been a downvote.

@JanDvorak no. The user should comment and ask the author to change the code, it's rude to change someone else code like that.

1:19 PM
reject as too minor?

@JanDvorak no, it did fix code formatting - Improve is the right action, did that.

@ShadowWizard thanks. Should I check "not helpful"?

@TheGuywithTheHat Are you going to handle tasks from the CVQ as well? We still have events here

@JanDvorak nope (hey, Icecream!) - it was helpful, with one glitch. That specific review is done by now, was approved before my edit actually.

@Shog9 ty.

I didn't start the fire.

@JanDvorak of course, it was @rene. It's always rene.

2:23 PM
Actually, it was always burning since the world was turning

Is that caused by friction?

Someone should have introduced early humanity to water. Then the fire wouldn't be burning still

@JanDvorak very poe-tic

what the heck with that event "FYI"?

what event?

2:28 PM

@Braiam where is the screeenshot from?

@JanDvorak SO home page
weird!

@JanDvorak SO community bulletin

thanks. Nice!

mwhahahahaha. One little step for a dev, one big step for SharePoint (towards the lava-filled pit). Encapsulating entity framework inside the main solution assembly with costura.fody.

2:32 PM
@Braiam Ah, there was something about that in the latest podcast. It being a workaround.

I am wondering though... why did in not explode yet (must be waiting for the best moment - as per Murphy laws).

What exactly is a problem statement?

@Braiam well, it's not really an event. It's a very important meta post that shog wanted to pin in the bulletin
and the only way to ensure it sticks without rotation is making it an event.

Oh. The CV reason text does include a statement to cover walls of code. <3

Q: Community Bulletin - ends in xx hours

Maroun MarounI think I'm misunderstanding the "Community Bulletin", will delete my question when I'll find it's very stupid. What exactly "ends in 13 hours"? Is it a special post? I didn't see we are voting for something there, it was a regular question.

2:36 PM
My best guess is "FYI" = "without a fixed deadline of when it will be taken off the bulletin" = "indefinitely, even forever"

is it fair that shog can post community bulletins linked to his own posts? seems like a sly way of earning uvs

Because Meta upvotes is what it's all about.
Think of all the rep and privileges he'll get out of ... hmm, wait ...

but where is the line drawn from upvotes and just plain old attention whoring?

voting on meta is... nvm.

Can we know for sure if a build 2014.05.16 went indeed live on May 16th?

@rene do you have a reason to think otherwise?

This was posted on may, 19th...

@rene so it means the feature was alive for threee days before he posted :)

2:45 PM
Or the build was held in QA for three days?

@rene QA?

should I monitor new releases?

@ShadowWizard Ah, yeah. :-)
@Bart workaround was not the correct word...

Amazing. Plain amazing.

2:48 PM
? what is

Wow, just nuke that account already

oh, all he does is suggest edits, and they are always rejected?

@ShadowWizard if you don't succeed as an actual user, just try it anonymously.

@ShadowWizard How many rejects does a user need?

@rene think it's 5 in a week or something like that

2:52 PM
That user is active now, I rejected another edit already

I sure hope past bans mean subsequent once will be heavier

something seems off about that account... maybe a mod should look into it
or maybe it is a dummy mod account and they are just using it to find robo reviewers

Unlikely

I have no problem to get Shog9 banned....
8
...oops what did I say?

something just is weird though, member for 2 years, only activity that I can see is 15 suggested edits..... all 15 rejected

2:56 PM
That is indeed weird...

anyone with closing privileges on PCG?
for the record, I consider this question unclear for now. You need to clarify what exactly counts as hard-coding the solution. — Jan Dvorak 37 secs ago

@JanDvorak I agree, CV'd.

@rene good, most likely this 5th rejected edit caused a one week ban.
@Bart nope, I'm pretty sure the algorithm is not that smart.
@user0000000 yeah, but no posts to flag
@Shog9 if you got a second to spare, please take a look on this account, maybe send him mod message alerting that none of his edits go through, just in case it's a legit person unaware how things work.

@ProgramFOX I've also downvoted because the ban of formulas / patterns is ridiculous.

I just noticed that unicorns invaded my country

3:13 PM
rik mayall died this morning

Yeah, I heard. :(

@Bart Really? Where? Thought it was a secret invasion.

@ShadowWizard he's blocked from suggesting edits for a week; if he cares, he'll figure it out

@ProgramFOX seems OP has misunderstood my comment (any idea why?). I have asked for a confirmation, then I will reverse my votes.

@Shog9 sure, but he still didn't figure for two years, see his past activity. He'll just come back again and try to suggest 5 more useless edits.

3:20 PM
@JanDvorak Nope, no idea. Your comments seem clear to me.

@user0000000 Mods... don't do that. We have plenty of bad suggestions without making our own :P

@Undo but you do have test account, right? ;)

"This code was generated by a tool" should be at the top of all the classes written by the guy that built this awful Silverlight app (as opposed to just the Silverlight-generated ones).

@ShadowoftheShadow Oh of course ;)

Is there any reason for the ketchup marker class with 2px dotted #a6a6a6 border-top?

2 hours later…

Because ketchup is delicious.

Agreed.
But why border-top?

What does it have to do with programming?
It's about plugins hierarchy.
And the info is on the website.
