@AaronBertrand I got info about what happened, thanks. Looks random indeed, and result of some major "oopsie" on SE side. You probably already know though. :)
Guess I should consider myself lucky for not being affected.
07:57
Oh its a spammer
@JourneymanGeek Good, don't be rude and disclose their nationality. :P
@VLAZ There's no need to be rude about it, and rub salt in the wound :P
08:23
@Tinkeringbell eww, not in the wound, over the wound! :D
I'm pretty sure it's 'in'
today on random photos from SE:
@Tinkeringbell Perhaps, but it's still "eww" to put it inside wound. :D
It’s “into”.
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda inject. straight into the veins.
08:32
@starball better! No wound at least. ;)
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Where do you think the needle goes? :P
But didn't find SE user or the post with that image.
@Tinkeringbell ah, I don't consider that to be a wound, too small. :D
It's just a tiny hole.
I had one last week, routine blood tests.
I had lots of those (both injecting and taking out) while in hospital, few months ago. Fun times!
They kept saying I have great veins. :P
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda tiny holes can get some serious infections XD They're just as much a wound.
@ElementsInSpace Is it? Sounds plausible too
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Are sure they weren't vampires?
"You haf great veins. And a very bitable neck"
2
08:48
@JourneymanGeek We had one here that could as well be. Their canines were like... 0,5 cm longer than normal at least.
09:06
@Tinkeringbell yeah but when getting injection it's usually by qualified person who use clean needle, etc, so no risk. :)
@ElementsInSpace what's the difference between "in the wound" and "into the wound"?
@JourneymanGeek yeah they did it mostly during day, window open, lots of sunlight. ;)
See that's what they want you to think
are you sure they were real windows?
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda The word in doesn’t suggest that the salt being introduced to the wound, it’s already there.
@JourneymanGeek well they took only from my hands. And one time, for some special diagnostics (I think bone marrow), from somewhere near the buttocks. But no neck, luckily. :-D
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda So far
@JourneymanGeek perhaps Linux! :D
@ElementsInSpace but it's "rub salt in the wound"
@JourneymanGeek nah, those days are over, now it's only routine tests once every few months. ;)
09:12
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Or Haiku
@JourneymanGeek shall we call the master then, @Yaakov? ;-)
It’s similar to the difference between between: “peeing in the pool”, and “peeing into the pool”, where the latter suggests the person peeing isn’t in the pool themselves.
@ElementsInSpace ah, I see. What about "inside the pool" then? ;)
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda That makes me think the pool is empty, and that pool mean the structure (without the water).
09:17
Verb: rub salt in the wound (third-person singular simple present rubs salt in the wound, present participle rubbing salt in the wound, simple past and past participle rubbed salt in the wound)
  1. (idiomatic) To make an injury, physical or emotional, feel worse.
  2. Synonyms: add insult to injury, kick someone when they are down, twist the knife, rub it in; see also Thesaurus:make matters worse
That said, I suggest you switch to a far more precise "Pour salt over the wound"
@SPArcheon Disagree.
It should really be modernised. All these pre-21st century phrasings are just obsolete. I suggest "rub the wound over YouTube comments"
@ElementsInSpace I know that when explaining things to kids you use words and concepts they understand... and I know we are talking about @Shadow... but did you really had to use that comparison -_-' ?
@VLAZ Rub Lego into the wound? :P
@SPArcheon I’m sorry, but it’s a very good example for the difference between in and into.
09:37
@ElementsInSpace hehe, nice thinking. :D
@SPArcheon just pouring salt won't do much, need to rub it to have the desired effect.
@VLAZ yes! +1
@Tinkeringbell I'm not sure which one of the two is more monstrous.
@SPArcheon meHappy ;)
@VLAZ Depends on the quality of the YouTube comments, I guess :P
@ElementsInSpace nothing as good with ponies?
@SPArcheon LMAO
09:46
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda I can’t think of one.
Depends on the wound, and the salt
@ShadowWizardLoveZelda What IS the desired effect?
> In, into: position and direction
We use in to talk about where something is in relation to a larger area around it:

A:
Where’s Jane?

B:
She’s in the garden.

I’ve left my keys in the car.

We use into to talk about the movement of something, usually with a verb that expresses movement (e.g. go, come). It shows where something is or was going:

A:
Where’s Jane?

B:
She’s gone into the house.

Helen came into the room.
@SPArcheon Yeah.
10:07
I guess 'rub in' is one of those exceptions the English language is known for then ;)
Hey everyone
Hey. Long time no see. How's life?
@Luuklag G’day
Has chat been updated?
Not that I know?
10:15
Might be on mobile chat then..
Ah well yeah not used to go here on my phone.
But yeah life is food @Tinkeringbell, and how about you?
Good*
@Tinkeringbell See here
> With some verbs (e.g. put, fall, jump, dive) we can use either in or into with no difference in meaning
@Luuklag Same old... not much change, which I like :)
How is your apartment, all to your liking by now?
It's getting there. We just started discussions in the apartment block app group about solar panels and airconditioning today :) And even after 2 years, I'm still finding small stuff I want to do. Like putting stuff on walls in the toilet :P
Visited a friend that recently moved and one of the things she had already done was put little prints on the walls, and I realized how 'empty' mine was XD
You moved too, right?
Yeah, twice already. 2,5 weeks ago we moved into a house we bought.
And about a year before we moved to Texel
10:23
Oof, that's a lot of moving XD Are you still on Texel or back on the mainland?
How's the house?
No still on Texel, but now closer to my wife s work
Nice!
So, lots of DIY-ing to do still? Or is the house perfect already?
Its never perfect :D
Eh, you never know :P
How's your place coming along btw?
Already did a lot, redid part of the roof, built a new staircase to the attic, removed the old one, put up a partition wall, and fixed an excisting wall. Redid all the finishing on the walls, put in new floors etc.
10:31
Yep, that's a lot! XD
You still waiting on your apartment @JourneymanGeek?
@Tinkeringbell had to put off the kitchen, nothing gets done around CNY and my parents told me with short notice they need to go to india and I needed to go soooooo
some time after the 8th
And just filled a building permit to put an extension on our attic. And need to redo the sunroom, as that is rotted.
@Luuklag got the keys, got paint... :D
@JourneymanGeek Oh. I hope you have a nice trip?
10:33
ugh
Well thats a start @JourneymanGeek
@Luuklag Sounds like stuff that can wait a bit, but which would be nice to get out of the way soon too :)
3 days at their diabedis clinic, too much driving around..
Hearing all that makes me really glad that that part of moving in is done for me XD
@JourneymanGeek Pffft. They don't have diabetes clinics in Singapore?
10:34
@Tinkeringbell cheaper/better/more comprehensive
Its less the need to go and more "no warning, and no concern for the things I need doing"
Yeah, that doesn't sound right.
I'd actuallly asked my brother if he could swap in the combination lock for the contractor but he... can't be bothered too
story of my life
:(
And neighbors? It wasn't uncommon here to just get a key and let some people in, if one was around. It wasn't like there was any stuff to steal yet...
I have one neighbour and I've not really seen him much
@Tinkeringbell well, big screen TV, networking equipement...
Ah....
Yeah, that doesn't work then.
10:39
and honestly I don't feel confortable leaving a lock that I could break with a good angry glare for 2 weeks
so it'll have to wait
Here on Texel I just left the backdoor unlocked for the fibre optics guys. I came back 4 days later and it was all set up. House was packed with tools.
Heh. Yeah, that's a bit more daring than I'd like... also, most guys I've seen here for various chores don't generally want to work in homes that are already furnished alone, they're not even allowed to due to company policies. Just so they don't get blamed when something goes missing around the same time they were there.
@Tinkeringbell So, once I saw in a documentary about Japan some company that just replaced your average vending machine with a small fridge. You would take out whatever you want and place the money in a basket nearby. Apparently everyone was putting the money in the basket and no one was stealing money.
@SPArcheon Yeah, some people are much more polite than others.
Such a thing might work here (there are still plenty of 'roadside stalls' here, during summer/autumn).
They operate on the same principle.
Take something, and leave the money.
Still, I can understand the whole 'well the company got complaints about an employee possibly thieving once, so now we just won't come unless someone's home to supervise'. Most companies here work throughout the country and not just in homes of 'village people'
10:53
Here... one day the vending machine guy did a mistake and set something wrong on the machine so it would give you **ten times the credit** for the money you put it... It was like those "Black Friday Zombie horde" meme pictures you often see online. People hitting each other and cursing for the chance of looting the machine.
When the vending machine technician came again less than 2 hours later... the vending machine was empty. And some of the keyboard buttons were broken from people mashing them.
Oh yeah. That also doesn't surprise me XD
I doubt many of those 'customers' had ever used that vending machine before. Things like that seem to attract a whole other crowd of 'worst behavior'.
@Tinkeringbell well, nothing beats some Italian hacking magazines a friend showed me.
> "How to hack your neighbour wi-fi connections and navigate on internet for free! Software included on DVD!"
True essence of "White Hat hacker"
Hah. Well if it works, it works!
@Tinkeringbell You know. There are some that have "youtube clickbait titles" but are actually "here it is how they do it so that you can learn and write better software / protect yourself"
I know :)
11:04
But there are also plenty of "Install the software on the dvd and follow this illustrated guide to steal your neighbor wifi"
(one of the reasons I don't really like 24/7 wifi bTW)
Well I'm not so worried about the WiFi here. I just learned that I should be very careful taking any crochet while travelling though!
That one is ... wild XD
@Tinkeringbell they should check if others remember the name BerenstAin or BerenstEin, this looks like they were spirited away.
I dunno. I guess I'm on camp 'get a CO monitor'
Seems a bit more likely than either their TSA theory or your Berenstein one.
@Tinkeringbell Seems like sabotage to me.
Heh. Well I can tell it's probably a very good way to sabotage, that's true.
I'd probably really hate it if someone were to work uninvited on my craft projects, and possibly consider them ruined forever after.
Even when, like with crochet, the damage can just be frogged and redone properly.
11:19
@Tinkeringbell Next you will claim some nonsense like every Mario 64 copy not being different or the internal plexus not being real.
Have you ever seen me claim sense? No? Then that shouldn't surprise you.
@Tinkeringbell Now, this is Earthworm Jim 2 level of bad pun :P
> "If cigarettes cause cancer, what causes Capricorn?"
Well I don't think I've ever claimed to be good at making puns either.
11:40
@Tinkeringbell there's your mistake
there's no such thing as a good pun. All puns are bad puns, except german ones..
They are the wurst
@SPArcheon Since I haven't moved in, I left my wireless AP unsecured and put the SSID as "TEMP_FREE_WIFI"
@JourneymanGeek Ah yeah, the wurst käse scenario is having to resort to German puns.
Seems cheesy
It is :)
12:26
@JourneymanGeek magical wound, Healing Salt?
gaping wound
and/or several tonnes of salt
@SPArcheon awesome!
oh hey @Luuk welcome back (?) to Tavern! You still remember everyone here? ;)
Even @Bart came for a short visit.
Now we only need @Pekka and it will be perfect. :P

BTW, I will haply report that the company still didn't notice what they forgot.
Great. Keep it like that :P

@SPArcheon Valentine's day?
Jan 30 at 16:56, by SPArcheon
@KevinB Almost as high as them forgetting to do something now that it is no longer Yaakov problem...
and more importantly...
Jan 30 at 16:56, by SPArcheon
I want to see how long it takes for them to notice.
17:46
@SPArcheon ah, but didn't say "again", just perfect in the current state.
Bart, Pekka, and you - what else do we need? ;)
Maybe brown? hmm...
@JoshDarnell we need some color here! ;)
@SPArcheon UniKitty?

@Glorfindel Congratulations on earning 250k Meta rep! (A bit belated, but still)
By the way, is there a user script that will swap out the Stacks Editor on Teams with the old editor? On Teams they've disabled the preview feature which is something I use, and the text size in the editor is too small for my eyes.
