Yes, Community-a-thon started. It's still ongoing. (There was no indication that it was being canceled/postponed/etc. at the time that I lost access to Slack. And I argued against doing so, given that the event was already underway.)

to me community-a-thons always made one thing in particular very clear: very few employees seemed to ever be part of the community before they were hired or after, and for a company that seems so built, and even reliant on the community for marketing it's products... that's concerning.

@V2Blast to be fair, i don't use any of the products my company makes, :shrug: it's not that i expect people who work at a company to use the products, more, i'm surprised how it seems so few of the people who have jobs that overlap with stacks that literally exist were members prior. at how few of the CM's seem to be part of the community. At how few of the blog posts are on topics actually relevant to "coding for living" despite being tagged as such. it's backwards all the way around.

At how the public platform is held together with ductape and still using code from 2010 that's been deprecated for at least a decade.

yeah, iunno. at a point in time i wanted to, but never felt they had openings that spoke to me. That and there's a certain... freedom you have in being on the outside that i don't think would exist as an employee.

i'd never want to be in a position to have to work on any of the current paid products. I don't see any reason for any of them to exist, that'd be a depressing thing to work on.
