New in box sucks. refresh? How about when I click the inbox... it just refreshes? Like it used to? There was a red(1) still up from the last comment, so I clicked refresh to get rid of it, then noticed a new comment pop in there. - Also, where TF is everybody?

@Mazura hello
Well you can't disappear for whole year then complain people are away, lol. @Maz
As for inbox, not sure what you mean, if you mean you want all items to be marked as read once you open the inbox, that's currently the most popular request, you can see this in the announcement. I'd say there is a very slim chance they will add it as user preference, off by default, but not any time soon.
2-3 years is very optimistic.
@tripleee flagged, -8 but still up.
@JNat cross site spammer to start your morning. ;)

@SPArcheon lol nice

@starball joke missed? I played that game and the fairy is indeed annoying, but missed the context here. ;)
oh looks like @SPA did get it. :D

8:55 AM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars the joke is just that the fairy is annoying and says "hey, listen!!" a lot in a certain game(s?)

@ShadowWizardChasingStars if you prefer....
here.
@starball I kinda don't get why some players seems to get extremely annoyed by the "companion fairy" trope. IMHO the only thing that could use a change in Ocarina is the "listen" sound when you target an enemy since it gets repetitive. And that would already decrease the "hey listen" by a good 90%

@starball ohh, so my messages every hour are going to be as annoying. Got ya! :D
But I do not speak in that annoying voice. :P

That said, some "weird" players get annoyed by Paimon, while personally I would like a switch to have her always on screen like in the game tutorial...

@SPArcheon better!
@SPArcheon there's a logic issue. Player is weird by definition. Someone who isn't weird, won't be a player to begin with. :P
Hi @Mazu
How are you?
This reminds me, long time no bonfire ping for @g3rv4 so here it is now. :D

9:12 AM
"currently the most popular request" ... well who made the first request that made it crappy? ;p
@ShadowWizardChasingStars insomniatic as usual. You?

@Mazura happy after seeing this:
I don't like Musk.
So, glad he's losing money.
I deleted my Twitter profile recently, Twitter is now evil, I want no part in it.
@Mazura insomniatic in what sense? No sleep at all? ;(
@Mazura not sure what you mean? Who decided that inbox items won't be marked as read automatically anymore? Not any ordinary user, that was SE internal decision.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars This is as close to SM as I get. I'm Gen X; we're all too busy having kids and jobs for that crap.

@Mazura SM? Small Medium?

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Just not when I should be asleep
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Social Media

lol never ever saw that used for it.

9:19 AM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars That's what I passive aggressively meant ;)

There is also something 18+ but I assumed you didn't mean that. :P

Well... it is just us
lol

But thinking about it, social media is fitting, it inflicts pain and people love it.
The thrill of a new notification, then depression that it wasn't personal message from your secret lover. :D
@Mazura anyway if you're really bored you can always hop into the Den and play WAG, these days it's on a roll again with @star and @Nord. ;-)

I've done enough drugs to know that, that 'thrill' is to be taken in moderation. SE is plenty endorphins for me and it can be taken or left. Talking using text to actual people you know? FTS Yo, Dookie! Pick up the phone!
Naw, I don't feel like playing Wives and Girlfriends. Wait, wut

9:36 AM
@Mazura LOL

@SPArcheon I don't know how you can get annoyed by her. I do understand the memes, but still weird

@Mazura hope that not "heavy" drugs, those are really nasty. :-O

@ShadowWizardChasingStars admittedly, he took out large loans to be able to even buy twitter. Some people mention how you can get very large loans for little interest from China/Japan, but not sure how that works.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars *confused face. you're telling me you aren't my secret lover?

that goes to show even some rich people aren't truly rich if they need to take loans. or maybe they're just more normal than expected

9:46 AM
@NordTheStarWizard what I read is that he used Twitter money, so put the company into huge debt. He used only very small portion of his own money.
Rich people will never pay with their own money, otherwise they won't become/stay rich.
He didn't fire 80% of the employees to make the company better, he did that because the company actually has no money to pay their salary.

the funny thing is, once you have enough credit/buying power, you can just do like some rich people and take out large loans, put it somewhere to earn interest, and use the interest money + the rest of the loans to get other loans. Some people just get loans to pay loans too from what I noticed

The worst people in this saga are the previous owners of Twitter, who sold their soul to the devil. They made easy money, and let the company they should have run and protected sink into nasty void.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars yeah, I thought the same too.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars good thing I never used twitter :P

@NordTheStarWizard yeah that gets complicated at some point. ;/
@NordTheStarWizard it was fine, until Musk arrived.
They removed bad content, they blocked bad people. None of this happening now, of course.

when I said "never use twitter" I don't count the fact that I scrolled through it without logging in

9:51 AM
@NordTheStarWizard hmm that's interesting question.
Are we users of a site if we're just lurking?

I mean, I used SO/SE a lot before I even had an account
I guess, yeah?

Maybe depends how often and how much you do that. :)

I mean, we all "use" search engine, but you don't always need to sign up to them

@NordTheStarWizard yeah

I guess depending on context, you could still call that being an user

10:14 AM
@NordTheStarWizard Some grumpy ones are allergic to cute characters.
Think about that: we even have a local parrot that despite having a name very similar to an adorable fairy doesn't like that :P
now... wonder who I am t(h)inking about ... ^_^

10:44 AM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars now that I think about it... did WB usually start on the 00:00AM Utc timezone?
Wasn't it always based on Pacific Time?

@SPArcheon want to play the game but only watch youtube videos of it for now
@SPArcheon I see what you did there

Rob
@ShadowWizardChasingStars I'm not a cat I'm a white tiger, seriously.

@Rob not a Tabaxi?

@Rob I see you mention quantum computing at home on your profile. Maybe this will interest you: youtube.com/watch?v=FoCvgGrsfyE
this only has one qubit, but this is still nice to see it being possible
I found this video a couple months back
@SPArcheon the "gather tales and stories" remind me of M'aiq

11:01 AM
D&D Tabaxi:
TES Khajiit:
yep, totally different race :P
... and then, mods.
because obviously Oblivion is an anime now.

11:24 AM
@SPArcheon it always has been. People just didn't notice it yet :P
but on a serious note, there was a huge amount of Oblivion mods that were deleted on many websites, including nexusmods. Either by their author, dmca request, or other unknown reasons
it kind of makes me sad, but I guess it is what it is
it's the same too for Morrowind...I think Skyrim is also touched by this, but it's less prevalent there, since people usually re-share mods, or there archives of it around

@NordTheStarWizard Nexus was and probably still is a mess. I stopped playing on pc, but back when I did going to TESNexus was a constant risk.

Ads where constant malwertising, their security was pathetic (I think they had admin account compromised at least 3 times) , the actual mods often had viruses too.
... and that is even without taking in consideration the risk of things like "Oblivion script extender", a fundamental requirement of many mods that gave Oblivion the power to run external custom dll....
That said, I still think that the mods were the thing that made the game worth playing.
Bethesda is quite lame: they fully know players will play the MODDED game, so they provide decent enough tools. Yet they don't take up the task to provide a sharing platform for those mods.
Still, they clearly look at what is popular, stealing ideas for the next game.
Several Skyrim spells are taken from Midas Magic, and the companion system looks suspiciously similar to Oblivion "Companion Recruit&Share"

@SPArcheon no idea, really don't remember.

Best part is that they don't even have to make good looking characters or really work on the map... because people will mod the npc skeleton/model and the map too...

11:40 AM
@Rob $95/month is no small amount, but looks to be worth. That Rob guy can obviously knock down real tigers with one hit.
@tripleee only one

yeah, only the Quickbooks one on webapps remains, plus the new Twitch one reported on SU more recently

nice

Rob
11:55 AM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars That's the low end, you get what you pay for; sometimes less. That's far from the only expense: taekwondonation.com/how-much-do-taekwondo-lessons-cost

@Rob well the Tiger might cost less, plus not require so many items.
Though I do wonder how much the plush costs.

@SPArcheon I don't want to spam ping you, but everything you said is exactly what I noticed and agree with
I feel like they're aware now of how much mods are beneficial to their business model. That's why they made creation club. Not to make a platform, but to monetize things even more. You thought buying a "DLC" that just added a skin for an existing horse in a game was outrageous? people seen nothing yet
that's also why their game has so many bugs. They want attention, even if it's bad ones. They also know the community has a knack for fixing these, so they must think it is needed to make people attracted to it, one way or another
if they start shipping bug-free games, then they might think it won't gather as much enthusiasm, and might make some existing modders uninterested

@Rob also noticed tight relation to the Addams Family.
Note the Hand

12:12 PM
@SPArcheon decent tools? I mean they're tools alright, but I wouldn't call a constantly crashing tool decent. What's decent is the sheer tenacity of the modders who keep using those broken tools or even end up making their own (eg: TES5Edit, etc)

@NordTheStarWizard Starting with Oblivion TES has IMHO gone in a precise direction: selling a bare minimum game with little variety, knowing that mods will create the real experience.

yep, exactly

Vanilla Oblivion isn't that good, and Vanilla Skyrim is only a little better.

I did like Skyrim as it was.

But if you take Oblivion, install a decent body replacer, Unique Landscape, Midas Magic, companion Vilja, Akatosh Mounts, etc etc etc... you get a great game...
@NordTheStarWizard Minecraft is similar in a way....

12:16 PM
yeah, I was about to mention Minecraft too

Years later the game is still missing many ideas from the mods.
You would think they would adapt the "Girlfriend" mod (that is not about girlfriends despite the name, just npc followers basically) into an official feature.

that wouldn't be a good business model for them if they implemented everyone's ideas. Instead, they just hype things up like those latest additions (new potential dimension, new boss, llama, etc) and gather attention. Give the community a way to gather around and create traffic for the game. If they just go and implement every great mods, while being togglable/optional, then they might think it won't be as beneficial as it being a blank slate

Closest thing is the new Allay... that doesn't really do anything useful since it goes away as soon as you get whatever it is holding.
@NordTheStarWizard Not "every". Just the thing that are severely lacking.

@SPArcheon NPC followers that are used as girlfriend, sounds right for kids. Yeah.

Some form of npc followers, more monsters, and above else MORE ARMORS.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Nope, they called the mod "girlfriends" because originally all the followers had female skins. Then they added males and called those "boyfriend".

12:20 PM
it's like the popular projects on GitHub from big corporation. They know and have the manpower to fix and implement features, but they prefer to leave the work to contributors who aren't getting paid. They know they will willingly come and do it since people use this to fill their resume and whatnot.

Rob
@ShadowWizardChasingStars ... and its carrying container.

@SPArcheon bad decision, which hints about bad intentions. Kids under 10 playing this. They should not care about girlfriends and boyfriends yet.
So it's good it's not made official.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars On that I agree, but the actual npc just follows you and attacks monsters that attack you.

They could call it "companions" and probably get approval, but hey, that's their decision.
@SPArcheon not relevant. The name is important.

@NordTheStarWizard how many years it took Minecraft to add a third actually used armor material (netherite ingots)?
Before it basically had TWO armors.
Iron and Diamond, since gold is uselles

12:24 PM
@Rob yeah, that's part of the deal. Strange contract.

They never even implemented the EMERALD armors that basically any mod pack has, despite that would be basic stuff.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars the point was probably just making followers. I admit the mod has a weird name or weird description, but there are many other similar mods titled "follower X" instead. So it's the same idea but with a weird different theme.
if they just added a blank slate "follower" feature, that would be beneficial, essentially
@SPArcheon I need to check it out since I don't follow the release date for features hmm

Minecraft vanilla gameplay is basically chop wood -> find iron -> find diamonds -> go nether, enchant -> (optionally fight wither) -> ender dragon

@SPArcheon no burning things down?

@NordTheStarWizard no need, that was just rhetoric.

12:27 PM
My kids do play Minecraft "clones" e.g. in Roblox, and always burn something.
Usually their own house, dunno why.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars at least they don't play the average "Roblox [something] Simulator"
"punch rock to get strength to unlock the ability to punch different colored rocks".

@SPArcheon but they do ;)
They play many modules, hard to keep track.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars time to uninstall Roblox :P

12:46 PM
@SPArcheon they'll just switch to Stumble Guys

@ShadowWizardChasingStars still better, at least it has actual gameplay.
Whilst a Roblox Tycoon is just "wait until money counter goes up, press button, wait for next button that costs even more"

@SPArcheon for some reason it makes them hit the phone more often though.

With the added risk of "but you can spend real money to make things go faster"

@SPArcheon they know they can't spend real money. ;)

1:05 PM
@JourneymanGeek can mods move a comment from the question to an answer?

1:16 PM
Well, same post.

1:33 PM
@SPArcheon if its' Q->A, then no, comments can only be moved to chat or deleted. If it's A->Q, then yes.

1:53 PM
Can chat messages be converted to comments?

@ShadowWizardChasingStars No such command 'convert'.

:(

@ShadowWizardChasingStars RE your deleted comment on meta.stackexchange.com/q/384667/377214 (not sure if you saw it since it was deleted pretty quickly as NLN): another way to think of it is that the font size is a number (e.g., how they're represented in Microsoft Word), and numbers can be lower or higher.
That said, as I did use both forms in the post, I did edit them so they're consistent (to use only one form).

Think I deleted it myself, and meh, I'm still pretty sure "low font size" is wrong but not sure enough to edit it out myself.
Learned the hard way that in English, if I never saw something used before, it doesn't mean it's wrong.
